About the Piece:
Pillars of Gold came to life thanks to the Seneca Valley Ryan Gloyer Middle School 8th Grade Band and their
directors, Brian Croach and Sara Snyder. As a parent and a part of this community, it means a great deal to
me to have the opportunity to write this piece.
This piece is inspired by the core values woven into daily life at Ryan Gloyer Middle School through the
positive behavior reinforcement program in 2026. Respectfulness, Responsibility, and Resilience are terms
familiar to all of the students at RGMS, and I had a great dialogue with them about what each of these
means to them before putting the piece together.
Each section of the music requires one (or more) of these pillars to bring the music to life, as real, lived
experiences. You’ll hear tenderness and care, feel strength and determination, and sense the resilience that
rises after challenge. My hope is that, together, these musical ideas show how these values take root, grow, and
shape the way we treat each other.
In the end, the “pillars of gold” aren’t isolated or instantly rewardable behaviors but qualities we build, day by
day, within ourselves and alongside our peers and community. This piece celebrates the students, their
teachers, their families, and the shared commitment to putting these pillars into practice as we grow into
ourselves, together.
