UNISIG launches assemble-to-order
program for UNE Gundrilling Machines
UNISIG, a global leader in deep hole drilling
machines and technology, has launched a
new assemble-to-order program for its versatile
UNE series gundrilling machines. Designed
to combine the speed of fast delivery with the
flexibility of custom configuration, the program
redefines how job shops and manufacturers
acquire critical gundrilling capabilities.
“Gundrilling machines are not as common
as CNC mills or lathes, but that doesn’t
mean customers should settle for longer lead
times, compromises in performance, or poor
service,” said Anthony Fettig, CEO of UNISIG.
“With this new program, we’re making it
easier than ever to say yes to gundrilling.”
UNISIG’s assemble-to-order initiative maintains
inventory of all major components of the UNE
series, allowing machines to be assembled to
each customer’s exact specifications – without the
waste or delays associated with pre-built stock
or full custom builds. With shorter lead times,
often half that of traditional build-to-order systems,
customers can get precisely what they need faster.
“At UNISIG, we’re always focused on what’s
next, and our assemble-to-order program is a
prime example,” added Fettig. “Implementing
this approach has modernized key areas of
our operations by improving machine quality,
shortening lead times, and giving us better
visibility into service part needs and inventory
management.”
This effort required deep coordination across
engineering, supply chain, manufacturing,
and customer service. Modular machine
designs, synchronized ERP systems, and
automated planning tools allow UNISIG to
deliver tailored machines while maintaining
tight control over quality, cost, and inventory.
Improving bore quality with
skiving and roller burnishing
kiving and roller burnishing is one of the most
Ssurprisingly productive ways to achieve highquality
bore finishing in OEM production. Even
experienced machinists are impressed when they
see raw tubing converted into a mirror-like finish in
a single pass at extremely high feed rates. This is
achieved by combining two operations into a single
tool and having the right machine for the job.
About UNISIG
UNISIG is a leading manufacturer of
deep hole drilling machines and automation
systems, serving industries ranging from
aerospace to medical to moldmaking.
Known for engineering innovation and
in-house manufacturing capabilities,
UNISIG combines precision, performance,
and reliability in everything it delivers.
For more information, please visit:
www.unisig.com
The process works by using a set of floating
knives on the front of the tool, followed by rollers.
The diameter and finish are adjustable on the
head to ‘dial’ in the exact sizes, and the finish
can be tuned by adjusting the roller pressure
relative to the cutting diameter. Cutting fluid
floods the tool to clear chips, and hydraulic
actuation protects the finished surface as the
tool retracts. The process delivers outstanding
accuracy, surface durability, and repeatability
across a wide range of bore sizes and
production environments.
Achievable results
The result is a highly efficient method that
routinely achieves:
■ Cutting speeds up to 300m/min (1,000SFM)
■ Feed per revolution 3mm/rev (0.118IPR)
■ Feed rates over 4,000 mm/min (157IPM)
■ Surface roughness Ra in the 0.2-micro-meter
(8-micro-inch) range
■ Circular form as close as 0.01mm
(.0004 inch)
■ Diameter tolerance IT8–IT9
These capabilities significantly enhance surface
durability, a crucial factor in hydraulic cylinder
manufacturing and other critical applications.
Application and production flexibility
The process applies across a wide range of bore
sizes and depths, from 30 to 500mm (1.18 to 20
inches) and beyond 6 meters (20 feet). UNISIG
has applied this method to depths over 13 meters
(43 feet) in demanding oil and gas environments.
Most applications remove a small amount of
material efficiently, typically around 1.5mm (0.06
inches). When rough tubes require more cutting,
a combined counterbore-skive-burnish tool may
be used. Shorter parts can be processed vertically
with separate skiving and burnishing tools,
which simplifies setup and increases automation
opportunities.
UNISIG machines built for the process
Skiving and roller burnishing places significant
demands on the machine platform, often
requiring more than 100kW (134hp) at the tool.
UNISIG machines are engineered to meet these
requirements with power, rigidity, and long-term
reliability.
■ S-Series machines are purpose-built for
tube production, designed specifically around
the skiving and roller burnishing process.
Robot-ready configurations are available as a
standard option.
■ B-Series BTA deep hole drilling
machines support both the creation of the
starting bore and the final high-quality finish,
offering manufacturers a single platform for
multiple operations.
Although skiving and roller burnishing is not
as common as conventional drilling, milling,
or turning, it is a proven method to drastically
increase productivity and quality. These machine
platforms allow manufacturers to fully leverage
the productivity and quality advantages in highvolume
production environments.

Warehouse & Materials Handling Automation
Europe’s largest independent tabletop retailer chooses
Autrix for major warehouse automation deployment
Phase 1 success at Wayland
Games drives expansion to
a fully automated packing
solution.
utrix, the intelligent
Awarehouse technology
specialist, today announced
the successful completion of
Phase 1 of a major automation
deployment with Wayland Games Limited, Europe’s
largest independent retailer for tabletop hobbies,
at their new 50,000 square foot facility in Essex.
Phase 1 has deployed Autrix’s flagship Automation
Control System (ACS) alongside an advanced
Autonomous Mobile Robot (AMR) based goods-to-person
solution, transforming operations across Wayland
Games’ new warehouse near Brentwood. The integrated
system is now operational, handling the company’s
extensive range of tabletop gaming products, including
Games Workshop, Warcradle, and Lego merchandise.
Proven results drive Phase 2 expansion
“Phase 1 has delivered exactly the business impact we
needed for our expansion,” said Richard Lawford, MD
& Founder of Wayland Games. “We’re processing
significantly more orders with the same team size, and
our customers are seeing faster dispatch times during
peak periods. What sets Autrix apart is their genuine
partnership approach – they didn’t just install equipment
and leave. They’ve worked alongside us to optimise
operations and ensure we’re getting maximum value
from the investment. The success we’ve achieved gives us
complete confidence to move forward
with Phase 2 and continue building
our automation capabilities together.”
Building on the success of Phase 1,
Phase 2 introduced fully automated
packing technology, further
streamlining the order fulfilment
process and supporting Wayland
Games’ continued growth trajectory.
The AMR goods-to-person solution addresses the
unique challenges of specialist retail fulfilment,
bringing products directly to ergonomically designed
picking stations rather than requiring operators to
walk extensive distances. This approach enables
faster and more accurate order processing while
reducing physical demands on warehouse staff.
Strategic partnership approach
“Seeing the immediate impact of Phase 1 validates
everything we believe about making intelligent
automation accessible to growing businesses,” said

Furnace & Foundry Equipment
Energy efficiency in industrial furnaces:
Where real savings are found
n today’s volatile energy market, industrial furnaces
Iremain among the most energy-intensive assets
in metal processing, recycling and heat treatment
operations. With fuel and electricity costs continuing
to place pressure on margins, improving furnace
efficiency is no longer a technical aspiration. It is a
commercial imperative.
Operating at temperatures often exceeding 1,000°C,
even small inefficiencies can result in significant
energy losses. In many cases, a substantial proportion
of input energy is not used to heat the product but
is lost through exhaust gases, surface radiation,
open doors and idle periods. Understanding and
quantifying these losses is the first step towards
meaningful and measurable improvement.
Combustion optimisation is typically the most immediate
route to efficiency gains. Many older systems operate with
excess air, which absorbs heat and carries it out through
the flue. Modern combustion control systems enable
precise air-to-fuel ratio adjustment and continuous oxygen
monitoring, reducing fuel consumption while improving
temperature stability and emissions performance.
Heat loss through insulation is another frequently
underestimated factor. Degraded refractory linings,
damaged insulation and poorly sealed doors can
significantly increase energy demand over time. In
many cases, targeted refurbishment can deliver strong
returns without the need for full furnace replacement.
Waste heat recovery presents further opportunity.
Exhaust gases are one of the largest sources of lost
energy, and technologies such as recuperators and
regenerators can capture and reuse this heat within
the process. When correctly engineered, these
systems reduce fuel consumption without adding
unnecessary operational complexity.
However, efficiency is not determined by equipment
alone. Operational practices play a critical role.
Frequent door openings, extended idle periods and
inefficient scheduling all increase heat losses. In
practice, reducing overall cycle time often delivers
the greatest savings. A furnace that heats faster and
operates for shorter periods will consume less energy
while increasing throughput.
Monometer’s experience across furnace design, upgrade
and consultancy projects consistently shows that the best
results come from addressing these areas together. By
combining sound engineering with disciplined operation,
businesses can achieve lasting reductions in energy
use while improving productivity and reliability.

Deep Hole Drilling
BTA Drilling: Brazed
Versus Indexable Tooling
Photos: UNISIG
Deep hole drilling applications can be
approached in several ways, but one
of the most effective methods is often BTA
drilling. BTA stands for Boring and Trepanning
Association, although it is sometimes referred
to as STS or Single Tube System drilling. Unlike
gun drills or twist drills a BTA drill features
internal chip removal, which has advantages
in both productivity and hole quality.
The BTA drill head has multiple carbide cutting
edges and guide pads mounted to it. Open
spaces are designed into the head for chip
removal, and chips are evacuated through
the drill tube the head is threaded onto.
Pressurized coolant surrounds the drill head in
operation, and is key to forcing chips through
the head and out the drill tube. This method of
chip evacuation allows for a very clean and
reliable process with excellent surface finish
and high drill feed rates – typically 5-7 times
faster than gundrilling at the same diameter.
No peck cycles or feed interruptions are
needed, resulting in reduced machine time
while drilling extended depth-to-diameter
ratios even greater than 40:1.
BTA drills are generally available in two
forms: brazed or indexable; and tool selection
is dependent upon several factors. As the
name implies, brazed tools involve brazing
a carbide insert and guide pads onto a steel
body, while indexable BTA drilling tools have
carbide inserts either directly mounted to the
head with a retention screw or seated in a
cartridge that is mounted to the tool.
Hole diameter is the initial consideration
when determining whether to use brazed or
indexable BTA drills. For small hole diameters
– generally 12 to 20mm in diameter – brazed
tools are often the first choice as it’s difficult to
make small inserts and screws strong enough to
withstand the torque and forces of BTA drilling.
(Manufacturers of BTA drilling tools continue to
make improvements in indexable BTA heads as
small as 8mm in diameter, however).
Brazed tools offer extremely close tolerances
and excellent surface finish as the insert and
guide pads are mounted and then ground
to the specified diameter, providing almost
perfect concentricity and cylindricity. Ease
of use is also a benefit – simply attach the
head to the drill tube and discard it when it
has dulled or failed. If you experience a tool
failure, the investment in drill head isn’t as
costly as repairing or replacing an indexable
drill head. Finally, an indexable BTA head
can only be as accurate as the tolerance of
the inserts themselves; but a brazed head has
been ground to a very precise tolerance from
the manufacturer.
By contrast, hole diameters starting at
approximately 20mm favor indexable tools,
primarily for economic reasons. Replacing
larger diameter brazed tools is expensive,
whereas indexing an insert and guide pads
gives an easy extension on the tool’s life.
Indexable insert manufacturers also offer an
exhaustive range of carbide grades, coatings
and chip breakers for application-specific
advantages.
The placement of the indexable inserts on
BTA drill head varies by diameter and by
manufacturer, and can include one or multiple
inserts mounted directly to the head or set in a
heat-treated cartridge, which is then mounted
to the head. Guide pads are typically mounted
the head to counter the drilling forces and
burnish the hole during drilling. Indexing, or
rotating, a direct-mounted insert is as simple
as loosening the retaining screw and turning
the insert to expose a fresh cutting edge. If
the insert and pocket were made with tight
tolerances, your cutting diameter should
remain reasonably consistent.
Cartridge-mounted inserts, however, typically
incorporate a shim or other adjustment system
to allow for a much more precise diameter
setting after indexing inserts and guide
pads. This process does require additional
equipment, however, such as a micrometer
and stand or tool presetter – as well as
the skills needed to accurately make the
necessary adjustments.
Whether you select brazed or indexable BTA
drills for your deep hole drilling application,
you will be rewarded with high feed rates
and process reliability, along with minimal
centerline deviation and excellent hole quality.

Business Crisis Management
Why modern organisations must
rethink crisis management
n today’s operating environment, every business is
Iexposed to disruption – making resilience a strategic
necessity, not a luxury. Organisations that invest in
preparation are better equipped to protect their people,
safeguard their reputation and maintain continuity
under pressure. SDH Crisis Management sets the
standard in this space, providing the insight, expertise
and support organisations need not only to withstand
disruption, but to emerge stronger because of it.
The most underestimated risks today are the ones
that sit between what were previously thought of
as traditional single impact incidents. Now it’s the
complex, cascading events that don’t fit neatly into a
single plan, that are hitting organisations the hardest.
Organisations are still preparing for single issue
crises, while the real threats are multi vector: cyber
incidents that trigger safety shutdowns, supply chain
failures that become reputational crises or slow down
operational output, or workforce disruptions that
undermine operational delivery.
“There’s also a persistent underestimation of
information risk. Many companies still assume they
will have time to ‘get organised’ before the public
conversation starts. They won’t,” says Su Sproston,
Director. “A relatively contained issue can grow
exponentially once it enters the public conversation
at an astounding rate. What begins as a small
operational or communication issue can quickly
escalate into a reputational event simply because
the narrative has taken on a life of its own.”
A lot of organisations also misinterpret the word ‘crisis’
itself. They hear the term and immediately think of
something catastrophic or headline worthy, so they
assume it only applies to large scale disasters. In
reality, a crisis is anything that disrupts the business,
threatens its ability to function, or forces decisions under
pressure. It can be a cyber incident, a supply chain
failure, a leadership issue, or even a communications
misstep. Because many organisations equate ‘crisis’
with something enormous, they overlook the everyday
disruptions that can escalate quickly if they’re not
managed well and put them out of business.
In many occasions, most crisis plans rarely fail
because they are incorrect;
they fail because they are
unusable in the moment. The
most common issue is that
plans are written for auditors
rather than responders, so
when pressure hits, people
struggle to translate a dense
word heavy document into
real time action. Furthermore,
where plans do exist, they
are rarely tested in realistic
conditions. Without exercising
them, organisations have no
idea whether the plan actually
works, whether the right people
are named in the right roles, or
whether the information flow is
practical under pressure. A plan that has never been
rehearsed is essentially unproven, and the first time it
is used should never be the day of the crisis.
SDH Crisis Management promotes ‘Crisis
Management as a Service’ (CMaaS) model, which
fundamentally shifts organisations away from the
traditional, project-based approach to preparedness.
“Instead of treating crisis planning as a one off exercise,
CMaaS provides continuous risk scanning, regular plan
updates, and real time advisory support,” Su explains.
“It ensures that organisations are not relying on static
documents but on a living framework that evolves as
their operations, risks, and external environment change.
This model also embeds coaching and scenario-based
training into the rhythm of the business, helping teams
build confidence and familiarity long before a crisis
occurs. Organisations do not just have a crisis plan,
policies or procedures they will actively use them,
test them, refine them and integrate them into decision
making. CMaaS gives them a level of readiness
that a traditional consultancy simply cannot achieve.”
Crisis management and business continuity is vital
across all sectors to ensure that essential processes,
systems and resources run as they should. In sectors
like manufacturing, energy, or infrastructure, good
examples of this could be safeguarding production
lines, maintaining power generation, protecting
control systems, or ensuring that essential services
remain available to the public. Think of it like this,
business continuity focuses on how the organisation
keeps functioning, while crisis management focuses
on how the organisation continues to lead amidst
uncertainty and any external pressures.
In these cases, the organisations
that respond decisively are the
ones that have absolute clarity
on who leads, how decisions
are made, and what the first
hour should look like. They don’t
waste time debating roles or
waiting for perfect information.
We asked Su what roles do
training and simulation play
in building true organisational
resilience beyond compliance
requirements:
“Training and exercises are
where crisis plans stop being
theoretical and start becoming something people
can actually use. Capability is built through practice,
not paperwork, and exercises expose the gaps that
no document can reveal. It’s in these moments that
organisations learn how they actually behave under
stress, rather than how they imagine they will.”
“Well-designed exercises also build confidence.
They give people the chance to rehearse their roles,
understand escalation pathways, and make decisions
with incomplete information. The exact conditions
they will face in a real crisis, and over time, this
creates muscle memory.”
As the UK risk landscape is becoming more volatile
and unpredictable, shaped not only by domestic
pressures but by global instability, conflicts such as
the Russia/Ukraine war and the escalating situation
involving Iran have demonstrated how quickly
geopolitical events can ripple through supply chains,
energy markets, cyber threat levels and public
sentiment. From fuel and commodity price shocks to
increased cyber-attacks and disruptions in critical
imports, these all have direct consequences for
UK organisations. What once felt like geopolitical
‘background noise’ now has immediate and ongoing
operational impact. One that organisations are
failing to recognise and proactively prepare for.
At the same time, organisations are dealing with a
convergence of other pressures: tightening regulatory
expectations, workforce volatility, climate driven
disruptions, and the ongoing fragility of global supply
networks. Risks no longer appear in neat categories,
they overlap, compound, and escalate at speed.
Traditional, siloed approaches to preparedness simply
cannot keep pace with this level of complexity.
In closing, Su adds, “To stay ahead, organisations
need to shift from static planning to continuous
resilience. This means treating risk assessment as a
living process, updated regularly to reflect real time
geopolitical, economic, and operational changes.
It requires strengthening cross functional crisis
governance so decisions can be made quickly,
even when information is incomplete. It also
demands investment in training and simulation,
because capability is built through practice,
not through documents alone.”

Fire & Security
Meeting modern education
safety needs
or over 30 years, Fircroft Technologies has
Fprovided audible and visual alarm systems
tailored to education settings, from schools
to universities. Its solutions meet strict fire
safety standards while remaining simple to
use for staff.
The ASYRA Wireless platform enables these
alerts on a single wireless system, monitored
via a mobile app, reducing cabling and
disruption. Ideal for busy campuses, it offers
fast installation, scalability, and integrated
safety management. Operating independently
off Wi-Fi or internet, it ensures reliable
performance when it matters most.
We spoke with Kieron Chapman, Managing
Director at Fircroft Technologies, to explore
why the ASYRA Wireless platform is
particularly well suited to the education sector.
Discussing how the company is tailoring
its solutions to meet the distinct safety
challenges faced by schools and campuses,
Kieron explained, “We have taken our extensive
experience of designing premium specification fire
alarm audible and visual signalling products and
applied it to developing a lockdown alarm suitable for
schools. We originally focussed on one of our export
markets where lockdown legislation was introduced
before in the UK. Then, with Martyn’s Law progressing,
we enhanced the product range to deliver a solution
for the UK public sector. As cost is critical for Public
Sector budgets, we focussed on using our high output
devices to reduce the number of devices required on
a system compared to other solutions. This has a
big impact on costs. By taking our proven technology
and modifying tones and flash colours to ensure they
are different from normal fire alarm tones and flash
colours to avoid confusion, we have a simple, secure
and affordable Lockdown alarm solution.”
With increasing focus on both fire safety and
lockdown procedures in education, Kieron then
explained how the ASYRA wireless system supports
multi-scenario emergency response, “We strongly
believe that while our ASYRA wireless system
can be added to an existing fire alarm system to
provide a comprehensive Lockdown alarm solution,
the preferred solution is to keep them as separate
systems. If one system developed a fault or was
vandalised during a risk scenario, we would not want
both systems to be affected. Aswell as that, a fire
system by law should take priory to any other function
it provides, so, a scenario where an intruder entered
the building and activated a call point could cause
a conflicting event and increase risk. If, after a risk
assessment, the client requires a combined system
solution, the ASYRA system can do this with simple,
‘Fail Safe’ I/O modules to interface inputs and outputs.”
When asked how their systems help ensure faster
alarm activation and safer evacuation or lockdown
procedures, Kieron said, “With the ASYRA system being
wireless, and us having weather proof versions of the
lockdown activation devices, we can position them at
the most suitable locations for early alarm activation.
This may be near a car park or entrance to a school or
even in the playing field areas. The earlier the alarm
is initiated; the sooner staff and pupils get to safety.
On top of that, we have a wireless communications
protocol that reacts quickly meaning that on the typical
system it is 3-5 seconds between triggering a device
and signalling being seen and heard. Some other
systems take considerably longer to react.”
One resounding complication in the education
sector is that most buildings are very old, and
different educational environments require different
needs from an alarm system. In response to this,
Kieron explained how the system can adapt to all
environments and buildings, “Being wireless, there
is no cabling required. We recently had an ASYRA
system installed in a school of 1,500 pupils in four
man-days from start to finish, and by working before
and after school hours for testing, the disruption
was minimal. Every wireless solution has to cater for
reduced coverage when dense construction materials
or site layout demands. The ASYRA system has a
wonderfully simplistic way to scale system sizes.”
“Each call point can be set as a ‘Master’ device
enabling up to 254 other devices of any type to be
connected to it. If, due to the site characteristics,
additional wireless coverage is required, simply
create additional zones with more master call points.
Each Master call point communications hub becomes
a zone on the system. Each of these zones are then
linked together to make one system by using a
special function in the I/O modules. It is best practice
to determine coverage and zoning requirements
before starting the installation and this can be done
with a site survey using the link verification mode
built into the products.”
Finally, we asked Kieron what innovations he sees
shaping the future of fire and safety systems in the
education sector, “Innovations in the technology tend
to take time due to extensive approvals processes
on fire systems. There are updates on government
guidance being introduced regularly in this sector.
We expect that, in time, there will be new standards
created that apply to lockdown alarms and other
systems also. We are members on trade associations
and hope to be involved in that process. We believe
that while providing standards and recommendations
for a safety critical solution, we should keep the
wide variety of customer application needs in mind
to ensure that the solution for each client and site
is safe, secure, fit for purpose, installed to a high
standard and remains affordable.”

Your trusted commercial
vehicle repair specialists
n the construction industry, your vehicles are more
Ithan just transport – they’re essential tools of the trade.
From delivering materials to accessing job sites, your
fleet works as hard as your team. Yet in demanding
environments, tight spaces, and constant on-site
movement, vehicle damage is often unavoidable.
Dented doors, scraped panels, and minor collisions
may seem minor, but they can quickly escalate if left
unaddressed. Beyond appearance, damaged panels
can cause corrosion, shorten vehicle lifespan, and
compromise safety. Just as importantly, your fleet
represents your business. Clean, well-maintained
vehicles reflect professionalism,
reliability, and attention to
detail – qualities that matter
in a competitive industry.
This is where working with an
experienced, accredited repairer
makes a real difference. Spectrum

For construction businesses,
time off the road is more than an
inconvenience – it directly impacts
productivity and profitability. Fast
turnaround times, combined with
precision repairs, ensure vehicles are
returned to service quickly without compromising quality.
Modern repair techniques also allow damaged panels to
be restored efficiently, often avoiding costly replacements.
Whether managing a large fleet or a single vehicle,
choosing a trusted repair partner is essential. It’s not
just about fixing damage – it’s about protecting your
investment, maintaining your professional image,
and ensuring your vehicles remain safe, compliant,
and ready for the demands of the job.
In an industry where reliability is everything,
having the right support behind your fleet keeps
your business moving forward.
With 40 years of expertise, we are your top choice
for handling your business and vehicle after an
accident. We provide pickup and drop-off services,
improved communication through our customer
service team, and quick turnaround times, ensuring

Solar Hybrid & Sustainability
Sustainable off-grid power
is no longer a trade-off
cross construction, infrastructure and temporary
Aworks, the expectations placed on-site power
have shifted. Cost remains critical, but so do noise
constraints, emissions targets, ESG reporting
requirements and the practical reality that many
locations simply do not suit constant generator running.
In that context, the conversation is moving from ‘how
do we power this site?’ to ‘how do we power it
efficiently, quietly and with provable outcomes?’
Hybridisation is the clearest step-change. By combining
solar generation, lithium battery storage and an
intelligent backup generator in one integrated system,
modern hybrid power reduces fuel burn without
compromising uptime. The key point is operational
control: when the system is genuinely ‘solar-first’ and
demand-matched, the generator becomes an occasional
support asset rather than a 24/7 necessity. The
result is fewer refuelling visits, reduced maintenance
exposure, lower noise and immediate cost impact.
At SolGen, the focus has been on building a
mobile, off-grid solution that maximises renewable
contribution in real conditions, not only in idealised
demonstrations. Our ‘Sunflower’ tracking approach
is designed to harvest more energy than fixed arrays
by automatically optimising panel pitch and direction
as the sun angle changes, with bifacial technology to
further increase capture. In practical terms, this can
materially increase solar yield compared with static
systems, and that yield directly translates into reduced
generator runtime and fuel consumption.
For many sites, the economics are now difficult to
ignore. When this power system can cut fuel costs
by up to £1,000 per week versus a traditional diesel
generator setup, while also enabling substantial
carbon reduction, hybrid power becomes a
commercial decision as much as a sustainability
one. SolGen systems are built to generate the
reporting that procurement teams and ESG leads
increasingly need: remote monitoring, real-time and
historical performance data, fuel and CO 2
saving
outputs, and exportable reporting for audits and
sustainability submissions.
The direction of travel is clear. Sites that adopt
intelligent hybrid power early are not only reducing
emissions; they are stabilising operating costs,
improving working conditions, and de-risking
compliance. The future of temporary off-grid power
will be defined by systems that deliver measurable
outcomes, automatically, day after day.

Noise & Vibration Measurements
Revolutionising noise monitoring in factories and
warehouses: The power of cloud-connected solutions
n fast-paced industrial environments, noise is
Ian unavoidable by-product of operations. From
heavy machinery and conveyor belts to forklift
trucks and automated systems, these workplaces
generate significant levels of noise that, if left
unchecked, can post serious health risks to
workers. Effective noise monitoring is not just a
compliance requirement, it is a critical component
of occupational health and safety, ensuring a
safer and more productive workplace.
The Risks of Industrial Noise Exposure
Prolonged exposure to high noise levels can lead to
irreversible hearing damage, increased stress, and
reduced concentration, which in turn can heighten
the risk of workplace accidents.
The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) outlines
strict regulations under the Control of Noise at
Work Regulations 2005, mandating employers
to assess and manage noise exposure to protect
employees. Failure to adhere to these regulations
can result in legal repercussions, reduced
productivity and output, heightened absenteeism
due to noise-induced health conditions, and even
fines for your organisation.
Quantum Indoor; The Ideal Solution
For businesses looking to enhance their noise
monitoring practices, the Quantum Indoor from
Cirrus Research offers an innovative and highly
effective solution. Designed specifically for indoor
environments such as factories, warehouses, and
manufacturing plants, Quantum Indoor provides

The Benefits of Cloud-Connected Monitoring
One of the standout features of Quantum Indoor
is its cloud-connected monitoring, which brings a
range of benefits to businesses operating in noiseintensive
environments.
S Remote Access to Data: With real-time
noise level tracking accessible from any device,
managers no longer need to be physically
present to monitor conditions.
S Improved Decision-Making: Historical
noise data and trend analysis help businesses
make informed decisions on noise control
strategies and equipment use.
S Automated Alerts & Reporting: Instant
notifications enable swift corrective actions,
while automatically generated reports simplify
regulatory compliance and auditing.
S Scalability: Cloud-connected systems can
be deployed across multiple sites, providing a
centralised view of noise levels across different
facilities.
S Reduced Downtime: By proactively identifying
and addressing noise issues, businesses can minimise
disruptions and maintain efficient workflows.

Haymarket Square Buildings
2 and 3: Gustafs Linear Rib
Acoustic Wall & Ceiling Products
Architect: Foster and Partners
Installer: MMM Joinery
Quantity: 2,000m 2
Specification: 38mm x 28mm and 22mm deep
ribs in Natural Oak veneer with 38mm gaps.
s part of the major Haymarket project in
AEdinburgh, LSA supplied over 2,000m 2
of Gustafs Linear Ribs to the atrium space
between Buildings 2 and 3 of Haymarket
Square. Haymarket Square is a key part of
the commercial arm of the scheme by the
estate developers LSA worked with for the
Quartermile Edinburgh futures project in 2022.
This development spans 4 acres of commercial,
leisure, and retail space including 400k m 2 of
office space and 2 landmark hotels.
The rib system from LSA was specified by
masterplan architects Foster and Partners for
its acoustic performance and industry leading
resistance to fire classification. Gustafs Linear rib
in this format fixed with 38mm gaps achieves
an impressive Class A acoustic performance
with minimal additional acoustic mounting depth
required. Ribs were mounted in huge bays of up
to 4m, arranged vertically along life cores and
horizontally to balustrades around the atrium for
an elongating effect. Rib joints were staggered
to give the appearance of full length pieces and
the installation team from MMM did a great job
fulfilling this visual illusion.
In public areas like atriums and lift lobbies and
especially in high-rise modern developments,
fire safety is key and using products that will
impede the spread of flames is paramount.
Alongside all other products manufactured by
Gustafs top performance in the event of a fire is
a key selling feature especially when working
with timber products. Gustafs ribs achieve
Euroclass B, s1-d0 for spread of flames, smoke
production, and flaming droplets which makes
them one of the best performing timber cladding
materials on the market. This is lead by their
unique gypsum particleboard core which is
almost completely non-combustible and stable
in the event of fire; coupled with their patented
Capax mounting profiles the system has been
tented to be self sufficient in the event of a fire
and even to protect supporting structure behind
the installation.
LSA also worked on leased areas inside
Haymarket B4, supplying both linear ribs and
Gustafs panel system to staff areas, lecture
theatres, and lift lobbies.

LinkedIn Experience Centre, Farringdon
Architect: Ab Rogers Design
Installer: Denne Joinery
Quantity: 160m 2 Ribs and 200m 2 Panels
Spec: Maple Veneered Acoustic and Non-Acoustic
Panels and Red Painted Ash Veneered Ribs
SA projects are proud to have contributed two
Lour of acoustic products to the new LinkedIn
Experience Centre in Farringdon, the centre is a multiuse
events space designed to bring the professional
networking platform to life. The Experience centre
houses a events and conference theatre as well as
meeting spaces and hybrid working facilities for staff
and members. The design needed to be sleek and
intuitive using the best products available to share
the brand’s vision and ethos.
The acoustic panel system supplied by Gustafs was
used in both the theatre space and main entrance.
Multiple acoustic perforation patterns were applied
to the Maple veneered panels for an interesting and
dynamic texture on the walls. In the lecture theatre
a combination of PH5 and PD8 perforations were
used for both linear and offset round apertures, both
providing Class B acoustic performance. Behind the
reception desk panels were completed with nano
perforations – a unique pattern which combines
high-density performance rear holes with an almost
invisible microperforated face veneer.
Gustafs Linear ribs were used to clad the exterior
drum of the lecture theatre including the stand-out
moving-wall style doors on each side of the space.
This product is a versatile system which lends itself to
variable installations like this. With a simple support
structure (designed to house it’s own acoustic fleece)
it can be applied to flat and curved surfaces on walls
and ceilings, as well as to doors and hatches without
sacrificing any tested metrics including fire and
acoustic performance. Designers chose to use natural
Ash veneer as a base for the signature red paint; this
combination gives a stand-back bold appearance
whilst retaining the natural texture of the timber when
viewed closely. The linear rib elements are also used
as an acoustic tool, combined with Gustafs’ high
density mineral wool the module build up achieves
Class C performance with minimal additional
mounting depth which is ideal to add enough
sound dampening to breakout spaces like this one.

Recycled plastic educational furniture
maintenance-free outdoor classroom products
sing Recycled Plastic Wood and Recycled Mixed
UPlastic Lumber collected from UK Homes and
Businesses – Eco friendly and Sustainable
Recycled plastic lumber or recycled plastic
wood, is made from taking your waste plastic and
processing it for reuse. 66% less energy is needed
than is required in production of virgin plastic, and it
releases a whopping 250% less carbon dioxide.
We turn this recycled plastic into aesthetically
pleasing, useful products, for the general public,
construction companies, local authorities, educational
institutions and hospitals all over the world.
All our products are recycled as well as being
recyclable.
This is the ideal of recycling. It’s a closed loop.
All the plastic products we use as consumers should
be capable of recycling indefinitely making for a
sustainable future for our children and a cleaner less
toxic environment.
In some cases we also reuse rather than recycle.
For example, we have a Recycled Plastic
Compost Tumbler/Compost Bin – appropriately
named, ‘The Compost Creator.’ For this we reuse
a food grade plastic drum previously used to transport
food products.
Reuse is vastly superior to simply recycling
There is no significant consumption of energy, as there
is no manufacturing process involving heavy use of
energy. We just drill a few holes in the
drum and clean it up as best we can.
Both recycling plastic as well as
reusing it keeps large amounts of plastic waste out of
expensive and now difficult to find landfill.
This results in a lower carbon footprint and reduced
human contribution to global warming and climate
change.
Recycled Mixed Plastic Lumber, recycled HDPE and
recycled polystyrene (which is the primary waste
plastic in our recycled plastic wood or recycled plastic
timber) are what we make all our products out of.
These, often brightly coloured, Recycled plastic
products are extremely durable and attractive.
They will maintain their appearance for many years
to come.

Service Sealing Solutions Ltd –
suppliers of DOYMA products
Service Sealing Solutions Ltd are the sole UK distributor of DOYMA
products. Wherever services are installed through walls, ceilings or
floors, penetrating water may cause damage to buildings. Lack of
attention to the points of entry of pipes and cables into the building
can have serious results: damp cellars, equipment damaged by
water ingress and high repair costs. Service sealing systems ensure
professional and perfect pipe sealing, thus presenting excellent
preventative measures against structural damage. The very best in
German engineering is used to seal penetration points to the wall
to permanently prevent any infiltration of gases and water into the
building, and the duct sealing systems are guaranteed for 25 years.
Service Sealing Solutions supply the full range of products to suit all
situations for power cables, communication cables, pipes and ducts,
and specialising in sealing district heating pipes.

contractors achieve the
best outcomes in safety,
performance, and
compliance.
Founded by Company
Director, Tina McAra, the business was created
in response to a growing demand for advanced
sealing technologies that safeguard buildings
and infrastructure. Recognising the
opportunity to expand nationally,
Tina welcomed her husband
Jim into the company to
strengthen its operational
capabilities and grow
its distribution network
across the country.
We caught up with Tina,
to see how the last 12
months have been for the
company:
“The last 12 months have been
extremely positive. Inquiries are
on a parr with last year, though
our conversion rate to order has improved.
We have slightly exceeded forecast with
inquiries and expected orders, likely to stay
strong into the early part of next year.”
Correct sealing plays a crucial role in ensuring
that utilities such as power, water, and
communications remain accessible throughout a
building’s lifespan. Not only does this simplify
maintenance with minimal disruption, but it
also protects structures from the costly and
harmful effects of water ingress. Wherever
ducts pass through walls, floors, or ceilings,
advanced sealing systems help prevent moisture
penetration, mitigating risks of structural decay
and maintaining the integrity of assets
for the long term.

Steel Buildings
Steel solutions, engineered for the future
astle Steel Buildings is proud to be one of the
CUK’s leading suppliers of steel and portal frame
buildings. Based in Yorkshire, the company designs
and delivers bespoke solutions for a wide range of
applications – from private garages and workshops
to agricultural, commercial, and industrial buildings.
Serving the commercial, leisure, equestrian, and
farming sectors, Castle Steel Buildings is committed to
providing durable, low-impact structures built to stand
the test of time.
The company continually tests its systems to ensure it
remains at the forefront of the steel building industry.
All buildings meet – and exceed – British Standards
BS6399 and ISO 9001:2000, giving customers
confidence that their structures are designed to withstand
even the most challenging environments and climates.
Why steel?
Steel buildings are highly regarded for their strength,
flexibility, and sustainability. Their ability to be shaped
into a wide range of forms makes steel the material of
choice for bespoke, versatile designs. Unlike wood,
steel does not rot, warp, or degrade when exposed
to moisture or pests, ensuring long-term structural
integrity. Additional protection, such as galvanisation
and specialist coatings, further enhances resistance to
corrosion and rust.
With fire safety a top priority across the construction
industry, Castle Steel Buildings designs structures that
fully comply with fire protection and thermal insulation
regulations, offering clients reassurance and peace of
mind. Every building carries
an accredited CE mark,
ensuring robust performance
in even the most challenging
environmental and climate
conditions. In terms of
sustainability, precision
engineering minimises waste
and creates structures with
built-in longevity – requiring
minimal maintenance for
years to come.
When it comes to constructing safe and durable
steel buildings, Kingspan Quadcore insulated
panels excel. Whether it’s an agricultural facility,
industrial unit, or commercial space, they ensure that
your building can withstand fire hazards by offering
a level of fire protection that sets them apart from
traditional materials. Noted as the smartest choice
for those seeking safety,
durability, and compliance
in their steel buildings,
Kingspan Quadcore is a
next-generation insulated panel
core material that is made using a hybrid closed-cell
structure that ensures outstanding thermal performance
and, crucially, superior fire resistance.
Established in 2017, Castle Steel Buildings offers
a comprehensive turnkey service covering design,
manufacture, and installation through its trusted
distributor network. All steel frame buildings are
designed in-house and engineered to meet stringent
British building codes and regulations. In addition to
supplying bespoke structures, the company provides
a leading in-house installation service, delivered by
a skilled team of fitters and installers. Castle Steel
Buildings also offers expert guidance on groundwork
requirements and supplies full structural calculation
packs tailored for specific building control applications.

Heating & Cooling Systems Company of Choice
How ESS is
transforming
commercial heating
and cooling
n this issue of Industrial Solutions, we are pleased
Ito feature ESS Air Con as our Heating & Cooling
Systems Company of Choice.
Established in 2000, ESS has evolved from a specialist
HVAC distributor into the UK’s leading supplier of
commercial heat pump systems. Partnering with global
brands such as Samsung and Panasonic, alongside
innovative manufacturers including Maxa and Volta,
ESS delivers tailored, high-performance solutions
to meet the complex needs of modern commercial
environments.
The demand for heat pumps across commercial and
industrial sectors continues to accelerate, driven by
the global push toward decarbonisation and net zero
targets. In both the UK and Europe, government policy
and corporate sustainability commitments are reshaping
the heating landscape. As organisations transition
away from gas and other fossil-fuel systems, ESS
stands at the forefront – providing efficient, low-carbon
alternatives that enable businesses to reduce emissions,
cut operating costs, and future-proof their operations.
Over recent months, ESS has intensified its focus
on deploying large-scale heat pump systems for
commercial and industrial properties – including
offices, warehouses, and manufacturing facilities.
With a deep understanding of the operational
demands and environmental challenges unique
to these sectors, ESS helps organisations enhance
building energy performance and transition seamlessly
to low-carbon heat pump technology. In doing so,
the company enables clients to cut energy costs,
improve efficiency, and meet their ESG and
sustainability commitments.
In the industrial and logistics sectors, the shift is already
underway. Businesses operating low-temperature
industrial processes, distribution centres, and temperaturecontrolled
warehouses are increasingly investing in large
heat pump systems – achieving measurable gains in
energy efficiency, long-term cost reduction, and carbon
footprint reduction.
Maxa Heat Pumps represent one of ESS’s most
recent strategic partnerships, bringing cutting-edge
heating and cooling technology from Italy to the UK.
Manufactured by the Ferroli Group, Maxa products
are imported and distributed across the UK, offering
industrial, commercial, and residential clients highperformance
climate control solutions.
Founded in 1992 by Luciano Tredicesimo Ferroli,
the company has grown into one of Italy’s top five
heat pump manufacturers and a leading player in
the domestic air conditioning sector. Today, Maxa
is recognised globally for its expertise in residential,
commercial, and industrial air conditioning solutions.
At the core of Maxa’s mission are environmental
comfort, sustainable growth, and ecological
responsibility. These values underpin every stage of
their design and production processes, ensuring that
each system delivers efficiency, reliability, and longterm
value.
Maxa’s versatile portfolio of heating and cooling
solutions can be applied across a wide range of
environments – from domestic homes and commercial
offices to public facilities – whether for new-build
projects or retrofits. With a comprehensive selection
of heat pumps, Maxa provides reliable, adaptable
solutions tailored to every installation requirement.
Through ESS, these advanced systems can be supplied
and installed wherever high-quality climate control
is needed – from cold, temperate environments to
tropical conditions – ensuring environmental comfort
and human wellbeing wherever they are deployed.
ESS is also recognised for its deep expertise and
extensive product knowledge across a wide range of
air source heat pumps and air conditioning systems.
Companies looking to transition to advanced heating
and cooling solutions often face the challenge of
sourcing skilled installers and maintenance engineers.
ESS recognises that integrating new systems into
commercial buildings – particularly older properties
– can be complex. That’s why the company invests
heavily in customer support and comprehensive
training programs.
A key challenge across the industry is the shortage
of qualified installers and technical expertise. ESS
addresses this through its ongoing installer training
programs for heat pumps, equipping professionals
with the skills needed to optimise system performance.
By partnering with businesses, ESS ensures that
organisations get the maximum efficiency and reliability
from their heating and air conditioning systems.
Its highly skilled technical team supports both complex
industrial installations and standard commercial
applications, ensuring businesses benefit from seamless

ECO PHYSICS AG develops new three-channel
chemiluminescence analyser (NO/NO 2
/NH 3
)
CO PHYSICS AG offers innovative analytical
Esolutions for measurement tasks in the fields of
environment, health and process control. Using
its vital expertise and technology to contribute
towards environmental preservation, human
health, and industrial innovation, ECO PHYSICS’
interdisciplinary research and development
team work tirelessly to deliver the best customer
orientated and tailor-made products and services
for the industry.
Founded in 1990 through a management buyout,
ECO PHYSICS stands strong today as an
independent Swiss shareholder’s company with
an active board of members who are committed
to the future growth and success of the company.
We spoke to Dr. Grischa Peter Feuersänger,
Head of Sales & Marketing who explained
how the past 12 months have fared.
“We have received a positive recovery post
pandemic. Many public projects were reopened
which generated a lot of opportunities for new
references. The war in East Europe is a new tough
challenge to overcome, especially for companies
that rely almost completely on importing parts
and exporting their finished products. But the
main challenge for all of us has particularly
been the manufacturing costs, shipping routes
and exchange rates. Since 2022, we have used
this time to expand our product portfolio and
modernise our production line. New staff has
been hired for production and R&D, and we have
rearranged the supply chain due to the rise in
production costs. We have adapted our yearly
forecast to cater to this, we know it will be hard,
but optimisation is our current goal.”
Knowing there is no quick fix to economic changes,
ECO PHYSICS is determined to continue innovating
and has developed a new three-channel analyser
based on chemiluminescence. As an upgrade
from the The nCLD AL2, The nCLDAL3/8555 CY
analyser is the next generation in high precision
nitrogen oxide measurement. Unique in speed
and reliability, the nCLDAL3/8555 CY is modular
designed and capable of simultaneously NO, NO 2
,
NO X
, NH 3
and NOX-Amines. The new and intuitive
graphical user interface also individually displays
and connects to other instruments’ data.
Overall stability and reliability are lifted to a
new level. The optional electro-mechanical
bypass system balances out even the fastest
of pressure variations occurring in the sample
flow. Furthermore, the analyser is adaptable
to numerous non-standardised applications
and the calibration of the unit runs quickly and
automatically with all necessary data available
anywhere at any time. Its user friendly, compact,
modular, and intelligent hosting its own CPU
whilst enabling interaction with other CPUs by
BUS-communication.
Additionally, ECO PHYSICS has also been
developing upgrade kits for all its existing products
to help counteract some of the problematic
complications the supply chain has caused.
“We have used this chance for some substantial
upgrades in hardware, software and gas flow
controls,” added Dr. Grischa Peter Feuersänger.
Going forward, ECO PHYSICS is excited to
continue working on optimising production
workflow whilst simultaneously expanding its
current portfolio and developing new technologies.
In closing, we asked Dr. Grischa Peter
Feuersänger how the company felt receiving
our award. He responded, “We are extremely
honoured to be nominated, thank you.”

Valves for gas modular
skid applications in
upstream gas operations
liver Valves
Ocontinues to
support upstream gas
developments through
the supply of highperformance
valves
for gas modular skid
applications installed at
gas wellheads. These
modular skid packages
form a critical part
of modern upstream
infrastructure, providing
compact, efficient
control of high-pressure gas streams in
challenging operating environments.
Gas modular skids are designed to integrate
multiple process and safety functions within
a single, transportable unit. Valves used
within these systems must deliver absolute
reliability, precise control and long-term
durability. Oliver Valves supplies engineered
valve solutions specifically developed to
perform consistently within these demanding
gas modular skid applications.
Our scope of supply includes API
6A-compliant choke valves, engineered
to operate as part of fully integrated gas
modular skid systems. These valves are
typically installed alongside High Integrity
Pressure Protection Systems (HIPPS),
Wellhead Shutdown
(WSD) panels,
Emergency Shutdown
(ESD) systems and
Remote Terminal Unit
(RTU) panels. Integration
with fire and gas
detection systems and
chemical injection units
further reinforces the
need for dependable
valve performance
under all operating
conditions.
All valves supplied for gas modular skid
projects are designed, manufactured
and tested in accordance with API
6A requirements. This ensures robust
construction, resistance to high pressures
and temperatures, and consistent
performance throughout the operational
life of the asset. Where required, safetyrelated
instrumentation associated with
valve actuation and shutdown functions
can be supplied with SIL 3 certification,
supporting the highest levels of functional
safety and risk mitigation.
