HUNTING EXPERIENCE

AT THE SOURCE

“To experience and feel mountain hunting means to walk the

path that leads into trackless wilderness, to unravel secrets,

to witness overwhelming splendor. To feel fear and transience...

to practice renunciation. Mountain hunting conveys a touch

of freedom, is a deep love for a piece of home, and puts the

significance of humankind into proper perspective.”

Please note: Snow can fall in our

mountains even in July or August.

In Austria, hunting is based on an

ancient tradition of Germanic origin.

One does not hunt for the sake of

shooting or for the meat. The philosophy

of hunting is centered on

seeking out the game, stalking,

correctly identifying it — and only

then on harvesting it.

A word of advice to hunters:

Respect local customs. A hunter,

even when carrying a rifle or their

game, is always welcome in Tyrol.

HIGH-ALPINE HUNTING

IN NIEDERTHAI

An exciting high-alpine hunting

experience along the main

ridge of the Alps. Gneiss and slate

shape the geology of this region,

with spruce being the dominant

tree species. In many areas, however,

the landscape is enriched by

larch trees, thriving stone pines,

and higher up, dense dwarf pine

zones.

Mountain fitness, physical endurance,

good health, and proper

equipment are essential. Forest

roads are scarce, and multi-hour

ascents and stalks beyond 2,000

meters altitude are standard.

Hunting takes place from the valley

floor at 1,100 m up to the glacier

region at over 3,000 m. You might

encounter a wide variety of wildlife

– from ducks to alpine ibex.

A unique and ecologically valuable

feature of this region is the

possibility to observe game across

ridge lines.

The stalk through forest and

alpine terrain is the primary hunting

method. However, sufficient

raised hides are available for

traditional hunting of red and roe

deer.

Game species available for hunting:

▶ Chamois

▶ Roe deer

▶ Red deer

▶ Black grouse

▶ Marmot

▶ Mountain hare and ptarmigan
