Hi everyone.
Welcome to a very special edition of clubCREATE!
This magazine is all about celebrating culture, connection, and coming together. It’s
inspired by CREATE’s Reconciliation Action Plan - a promise to listen, learn, and take
action so everyone feels respected, included, and proud of who they are.
You might notice the amazing artwork on the cover. It’s called “To Create Change
is to Create Impact” by Wiradjuri artist Leticia Forbes, who is also a former CREATE
Young Consultant. Her artwork reminds us that every young person has the power
to make a difference and create change.
Inside, you’ll find all your usual fun with an art challenge where you can create
something inspired by your own culture, stories and advice from other young
people with care experience, and a look at some of the awesome events happening
all around Australia!

This artwork is about kids and young people using their voices
to help make positive change for themselves and their
communities. It celebrates the strength, knowledge, and
culture of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
It also shows that CREATE is committed to listening, learning,
and working together to build respect and understanding.

Your Story, Your Culture,
Your Voice
This is your chance to make a piece
of art that shows who you are, your
community, or something you care
about. You can also get inspired by
Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander
art, symbols, and storytelling.

There’s no “perfect” way to do it, what matters most is
what your art means to you.
Your challenge:
Make a piece of art that tells a story. It can be
painting, drawing, digital, collage, or mixed
media. Write a short note about what your art

What you've told
us about cultural
connection
You’ve told us that when you stay connected to your culture,
family, community, and Country, it helps you feel strong, proud,
and supported.
We sat down with CREATE Young Consultant Tim from
the Northern Territory to talk about what connection to
culture means to him, and the advice he has for other
young people.
What does “connection
to culture” mean to
you?
Embracing who I am and where I
come from and being proud of my
culture history.
“Foster that connection to culture,
country and mob. It’s extremely
important for young Indigenous people
to know where they come from,
language, culture, family… and
embrace it.”

Can you share a time
where you felt really
connected to your
culture?
Attending NAIDOC every year.
“Culture is important, because
without it I wouldn’t be me, my
culture is important but I wish I had
the chance to understand it more
growing up in care.”

#SnapThatStigma
Patrice’s Story
Patrice has a lot to be proud
of. She is a much-loved aunty
(known as “T” to her niece)
and she also works as a pet
sitter because she loves
animals.
But life wasn’t always easy
for her.
When Patrice was growing up
in care, some people told her
she couldn’t have nice things
because she was a foster child.
She was also bullied because
of her care experience.
Even though these things were
hard, Patrice kept going.
She turned her love of animals
into a job and now wants to
show other young people in
care that things can get better
and that they can achieve their
dreams too.
Patrice says:
“Just because you come
from a tough
background doesn’t
mean you can’t do great
things. Kids in care can
grow up to do amazing
things.”
She says what helped her most
was having family who listened
and supported her when things
were hard. She also loves
country music because it tells
stories she can relate to.
“Me and my family all
love country music!”
And a big shout out goes to her
dog Ziggy, who has been a great
companion through the good
times and the tough times.
“Just because
you’ve had a
tough start
doesn’t mean you
can’t do amazing
things and reach
your goals.”

CREATE in Action:
Snapshots from
Around Oz!
South
Australia
Over 65 children and young
people came together with their
carers for CREATE's annual
Sibling Connection event.
New South Wales
Our team visited Wagga Wagga and
Albury, taking part in an Aboriginal
cultural tour and learning alongside Mirri
Mirri. A meaningful trip spent listening,
learning, and building connections with
regional communities.
Victoria

Indigenous art workshop,
exploring storytelling through
colour, pattern and connection
to culture.
From giraffes to lions (and
plenty of “aww” moments),
our Werribee Open Range Zoo
Connection Event gave young
people a fun chance to explore
and connect.
The team in New South Wales joined
First Nations services and other
organisations for a day of Indigenous
ceremonies, dances, and Elders at the
Bankstown City Gardens. They had a blast
with sand art activities, which were a huge
hit with children and parents!
Northern
Territory
Youth Homelessness
Awareness Day – Couch Surfing
was a fantastic event filled with
young people showing their
support for an important cause.
We held a Roundtable event, which
saw many young people attend and
confidently advocate for their needs.
This event provided a safe space for
CREATE Victoria took a group to the NAIDOC celebrations at
Federation Square. NAIDOC Week is a time to come together
and honour the incredible achievements of our Indigenous
communities.

Western
Australia
We kicked off Youth Week 2026
in WA with a Connection Event
at BOUNCE…so much fun! We
also brought young people
together for a YAG session to
share, connect, and speak up
about the importance of youth
voice in the child protection
system, celebrating this year’s
theme, “Strength in our
Stories".
Tasmania
We welcomed both new and existing CREATE members to dive
into our SUP training workshop at the Tassie office. This 2-day
workshop included a trip out for lunch, and a mindful pottery
painting session with Stonedust Pottery!
Queensland
A fun day at David Fleay’s
wildlife park and saw
crocs, kangaroos, and
lots of other animals!
During Youth Week we went
to Hijinx Hotel & Holey Moley.
We worked up a sweat
completing ten challenge
rooms, followed by lunch and
9 rounds of mini golf.
Australian Capital Territory
We had a delicious, action packed Easter Connection event at
Woden Skatepark. Everyone learnt some fun skateboarding
skills, enjoyed a picnic lunch and finished off with an Easter Egg
Hunt! Can’t wait to see you all at our next Connection event!!
