the cologne Business School was founded in 1993 and is one

of the first universities which offered Bachelor of arts degree

courses in Germany. We educate multinational students in a

practice-related, cross-cultural and multilingual manner.

components which first became compulsory for the entire

european university landscape in 1997 as a result of the

Bologna Process and had to be implemented by 2010 had

already been introduced years in advance by the cBS.

from 2005 to 2009, the cBS was an academic institution

belonging to the european university of applied Sciences

rhein/erft (eufh) and received unconditional institutional

accreditation from the German council of Science and

humanities (Wissenschaftsrat) for ten years in November

2008. this highest seal of approval with the maximum

period of ten years has only been awarded in North rhine-

Westphalia three times before.

In the centre for higher education Development‘s (che‘s)

ranking, the cBS also achieved top marks, including the best

results amongst the cologne universities. In 2009, the Ministry

of Science of the German State of North rhine-Westphalia

approved the legal independency of the cBS as per January 01,

2010 and confirmed the state recognition. close cooperation

with the eufh will remain.

the cologne Business School‘s mission statement is to design

the study organisation and contents of the degree courses

in accordance with the students‘ employability. International

lecturers and rigid organisation enable efficient, forwardlooking

studying. Small study groups and intense student

support by the professors are the hallmark of the learning

atmosphere at the cBS. a network of partner universities in

several countries and intense contacts to the economy

already provide the opportunity of gaining international

study and work experience during studies.

europe is known as an originator of art, culture and academic

education. the first university originated as early as the 12th

century in Bologna, Italy, the first German university was

founded in the 15th century. Several famous scholars from

all areas of academia originate from europe, prominent

philosophers came from ancient Greece, which is also known as

the cradle of orderly State administration.

following several struggles and wars, the european countries

were prudent enough to concentrate on their common ground

and create a conflict-free area where namely cultural variety is

maintained, but the borders between the countries are becoming

more and more open. freedom of travel has long since been

implemented. Many european states have had a common currency

since 2002.

Germany, the country with the most inhabitants in europe, lies

in this continent which has been so marked by culture, in the

heart of europe. and here we find one of Germany‘s oldest cities

with more than one million inhabitants: cologne. More than

2000 years‘ history marks this popular university city which is

known for its great joy of life, famous museums, many theatres

including alternative theatres, a distinctive youth scene and -

naturally - the famous cologne carnival. More and more international

students are attracted here, where it is possible to get

to know the German way of life and culture as in no other city.

But there‘s more to it: london, Paris, amsterdam, Brussels, Munich

and Berlin can all be reached by train in less than 5 hours.

Moreover, cologne is Germany‘s largest low-cost airlines hub,

making it possible to fly reasonably-priced to numerous attractive

european cities and discover them.

the cologne Business School, part of a more than a century

old private university organisation, is hardly a stone‘s throw

away from several of cologne‘s abundant tourist attractions. It

provides a very personal atmosphere: the professors know their

students, the study groups are small and participate in several

events together, also outside the university. this creates an

atmosphere of trust. German fellow students at the cBS are

happy to support international students and to help them to feel

at ease quickly. Several nationalities can meet here during the

course of their studies because cBS offers both German-language

degree courses and a wide range of Bachelor of arts and

Masters‘ Degree courses in english. the cBS service points are

happy to support the students in all questions relating to studying

in Germany, organise German language courses, prepare

outings to significant tourist attractions and can boast international

experience.

this has already provided the cBS with rankings and accreditation

which always assess it as one of the best universities in the

country. here, the combination of good study achievements,

excellent professors and fulfilled student life is realised.

studying at the cbs means that you are located in cologne for

your studies, a lively metropolis in the heart of europe. as one

of the largest university cities in Germany, cologne has many

appealing features which make it truly attractive to young

people. Science, economics and culture pulsate day and night

in the lively student scene in the centre of the rhineland.

the fact that cologne has also become a trendy metropolis is

proven by its increasing number of radio and tV programmes

such as WDr, rtl and VoX. as a media and music city, cologne

outperforms other German cities. the lively club scene and

numerous trendy hangouts and bars provide to each their own

where everyone can enjoy the night life to the full. International

music and sports stars perform at the lanxess arena and on

other stages. the classical cultural programme for highbrow

indulgence impresses because cologne provides a multitude of

familiar international highlights: museums, churches, galleries,

theatre, the Philharmonic and the opera.

the openness of the natives of cologne within a multicultural

flair makes it easy to meet new friends. cologne is far more

Page 6/7

than a mere city: the heartiness, conviviality and pure celebratory

enjoyment of the cologne natives can indeed be found in

the rhine carnival metropolis.

the more serious part of student life is also provided for:

the proximity of the cBS to the economy pays off. for casual

jobs, practical industrial placements and getting started in

professional life later. cologne is a location with centuries of

commercial and trade fair tradition. Numerous commercial

enterprises and industrial firms, for example from the metal,

automobile, chemicals, pharmaceuticals, printing or textiles

industries just as the music and media sector are constantly

searching for enthusiastic and highly motivated junior employees

who wish to shape their future successfully. a large number

of computer, internet and telecommunications companies also

make cologne a dynamic It location.

the town, the people, the culture and the economy – studying in

cologne is synonymous with experiencing variety and having fun

whilst preparing yourself for an exciting career. Just take a look!

Degree courses which deal with languages and cultures

beyond one‘s own but are established without business components,

often make it difficult for graduates to competently

apply the linguistic and cultural knowledge they have gained

in the economy. this means that you are qualified for companies

which work within an international context and need specialists

for international communication and the interplay of

linguistically and culturally heterogeneous employees to this

end. Moreover, you are interesting for companies and institutions

which have to do with culture in the broadest sense and

need employees who both have cultural training and are able

to think and act in a business sense. In addition to economic,

social and cultural academic subjects and preparation for the

“cambridge Business english certificate” (Bec -higher), we

offer you at least one additional foreign language such as German,

camPus liFe

the cBS campus is lively outside the lecture rooms. there are

several work and leisure time offers available to you.

In the summer months, the campus garden is a popular

place here for relaxing between lectures and planning next

weekend‘s party with the fellow students.

the cBS student residence offers fully furnished single and

double rooms to international students from all over the

world. Students can cook their meals together in a large modern

kitchen or meet and study in the common room. the cBS

student residence is only a short ride away from the campus.

the cafeteria offers a wide range of food and beverages

between 8 a.m. and 6 p.m. Whether you just want to have an

apple and a cup of coffee for a little snack or a warm lunch,

you can find everything your heart desires. the modern atmosphere

in the business lounge is always inviting to spend

your free time.

the cBS library is open all day. the non-lending collection

includes the standard economics literature works as well as

textbooks and course books for the language courses. you

also have online access to numerous databases, making

current economic articles and further literature accessible

at all times. a mouse click will transfer the material for your

work to the screen.

you wish to support solidarity between the students and enjoy

organising events? Become involved in the cBS corporate

identity team, in short: the cI-team. Students from all subject

areas and semesters have joined forces here and positively

influence the feeling of a common bond at the cBS and its

external depiction with multifaceted campaigns. the cI-team

organises charity campaigns, prepares opinion surveys and

is involved in the assessment day, in order to establish early

contacts between applicants and students.

Students who are particularly interested in media present the

cbs campus radio or cbs television programme. the cBS

is one of the few universities in Germany with its own radio

and televison equipment, whose programme is designed, produced

and presented by the students themselves.

our campus provides your communication and work platform.

our campus-wide wireless laN always enables access to the

Internet during breaks or during your leisure time. you can

also make use of the occasion provided here to approach your

professors and ask them questions. In particular, the many

summer festivities and parties at our university provide this

opportunity.

Profit from the great community spirit of the interaction between

cBS students during the entire course of your studies

and the varied and attractive surroundings of the cBS!
