Amvic ICF: The fastest growing
modern construction method
A scalable system that helps developers lower costs,
reduce risk and shorten programmes
CF is no longer a niche alternative. Insulated
IConcrete Formwork has become one of
the fastest growing Modern Methods of
Construction in the residential sector, with
adoption accelerating steadily across private,
social and affordable housing schemes – backed
by an increasing level of government policy. In
2025, MMC accounted for 24% of new-build
residential projects in the UK, up from 18% the
previous year. MMC shows no signs of slowing
down, and Amvic ICF is positioned at its centre.
ICF as a system itself is straightforward. Two
panels of extra high-density expanded polystyrene
are held together by structural ties, dry-stacked
to form a wall and filled with reinforced concrete
in a storey at a time pour. The formwork stays
permanently in place, acting as continuous
insulation on both faces. No drying time, no wet
trades waiting on cures, no weather-related
downtime – and ready to meet current energy
standards without additional remedial work.
Three recent Amvic ICF projects break down
how this modern construction method has
been transforming programmes across the
UK and Ireland.
A 98-unit mixed-tenure housing scheme
comprising semi-detached homes, terraced
units and community facilities demonstrates
the benefits of ICF at scale. Walls were rising
at 800mm within two weeks of breaking ground
and eight units reached joist level within a single
week. Over 40,000m² of ICF was installed across
the scheme, finishing on programme.
A phased private housing estate project delivered
by Amvic ICF over 24 months displays the cost
savings that accompany ICF. The modular installation
process removed lead-time dependency, continuous
insulation eliminated cold bridging entirely and
airtightness levels exceeded standard benchmarks
– satisfying Building Regulations and NZEB
requirements without any additional cost.
Construction
A four-storey, 20-unit apartment block on a
constrained corner plot with limited access
completes the picture. Lightweight ICF
simplified on-site handling, reduced scaffolding
requirements significantly and removed the
need for heavy plant. Foundation to handover
was completed in just 24 weeks.
When eight units can reach joist level in a week,
a 98-unit scheme can be delivered at pace and
a four-storey apartment block is handed over
in 24 weeks, the commercial case becomes
difficult to argue against. Faster programmes
mean lower prelim costs, earlier sales revenue
and reduced exposure to market risk. Amvic ICF
brings over two decades of experience to every
project, working closely with design teams and
contractors from early-stage appraisal through
to delivery to provide safe,
cost-effective and on-time
results.

High-ROI multiport tube diverters for
feed pellet processors
ultiport tube diverters represent a significant
Mengineering advancement in pneumatic
conveying systems, delivering measurable gains in
total cost of ownership and process performance.
Conventional diverter valves introduce sharp
transitions and multiple impact points, accelerating
particle attrition in friable materials. This
mechanical degradation generates fines, reducing
yield, altering bulk density, increasing explosion
risk, and elevating system backpressure.
Multiport designs address these limitations
through continuous, full-bore flow geometry.
A rotating internal tube with a curved ‘swan
neck’ profile aligns directly with each outlet,
eliminating abrupt directional changes. This

CMServices Global Ltd:
At the heart of Industry 5.0
or many industries, whilst Industry 4.0 is still
Fdominating with advancements in automation,
smart systems, robotics, big data analytics, AI,
machine learning and of course, the Internet
of Things (IoT), the focus for others is already
on Industry 5.0. Defined by the European Union
as ‘placing the wellbeing of the worker at the
centre of the production process and using new
technologies to provide prosperity beyond jobs
and growth while respecting the production
limits of the planet.’ In short, we are shifting
from economic values to societal ones and
embracing sustainability.
Condition monitoring is an important aspect of
both Industry 4.0 and 5.0 through the real-time
tracking of machine functionality but with the
added bonus of predictive maintenance and
remote diagnostics across a whole system.
AI now brings automated processing with faultless
accuracy, through seamless analysis of huge
chunks of data in real-time and identifying patterns
proactively, before a problem arises, such as
pump cavitation. This importantly allows on-site
reduces particle-wall impact velocity and
preserves particle size distribution, enabling
yield improvements from approximately 87% to
up to 99% in sensitive applications.
From a systems perspective, consolidating
multiple valves into a single multiport unit
reduces layout complexity and footprint,
improving plant scalability and airflow efficiency.
Lower pressure drop across the diverter
decreases blower load and energy consumption.
Hygienic performance is enhanced through
enclosed, tube-to-tube construction that
eliminates dead zones and material retention.
Designs compliant with EC 1935/2004, FDA, and
engineers to schedule checks and repairs before a
more costly machine failure or malfunction occurs,
later down the line, contributing to the five Rs
of the circular economy: reduce, reuse, repair,
refurbish and recycle.
CMServices Global Ltd is a market-leading
consultancy, offering AI condition monitoring
to diverse sectors from marine and offshore,
automotive, manufacturing, food and beverage,
postal sorting through to chemical, oil and gas.
For decades, the annual scheduling of manual
maintenance has been standard practice but
with the advent of AI monitoring, irregularities
can be identified through early warning
prevention: smart analysis of sensor data and
the comparison to standard historical data.
The Maintenance in Balance (MiB) software
service from CMServices Global Ltd brings
Machine Learning and AI together to provide
diagnostic support for assets, through condition
monitoring techniques that identify irregularities
and provide further diagnostic guidance.
The MiB asset condition assessment software
provides a cutting-edge, integrated platform
for foresighted ship machinery maintenance
and furthermore, drastically reduces inspection
and maintenance costs, up to £500 thousand
per ship annually. Predictive fault monitoring
can decrease ship downtime from 7 to 1.5 days.
With existing shipping delays due to geopolitical
conditions in the Red Sea and Panama Canal,
this is welcome news for the shipping industry.

Maintenance in Balance
That’s not all: MiB helps shipping vessels meet
compliant seaworthy regulations, giving quality
assurance across the board. The real genius of MiB
is it supplies an extra layer of real-time prescriptive
maintenance outputs, based on accurate condition
and systems performance data and provides
next-level operational performance across safety,
regulatory, environmental and business areas.
With rising costs, the annual lifecycle costs of
operating one ship amounts to a staggering
£60 million and a third of the annual budget is
spent on repair and maintenance, to keep ships
buoyant and operational. Research has found
that as much as 60% of all maintenance is in fact
wholly unnecessary and can even cause more
issues going forward.
It’s no wonder then that MiB is in demand and
when we spoke to Simon, he said CMServices
Global Ltd was committed to ‘eight separate
current pilot projects’ across cruise liners,
container ships and oil and gas industries,
alongside a tender process in power generation
for three in Europe and two in the UK.

or almost 40 years, QAR Supplies has
Fbeen helping the UK’s hospitality and
catering industries source quality non-food
products at competitive prices. Established
in 1986, the company’s origins can be traced
to a simple but effective idea. Its founder
recognised the potential of importing highquality
all-purpose cloths and non-woven

Germany, introducing products that were
not widely available in the UK market at the
time. From those beginnings, the business
has grown into a respected supplier serving
the catering, cleaning and hospitality sectors
nationwide.
Based in Lingfield, Surrey, QAR Supplies
specialises in supplying a comprehensive
range of non-food consumables to hotels,
restaurants, catering businesses and
cleaning contractors. Its customers include
chefs, purchasing managers and facilities
managers who rely on dependable products
and consistent service to keep their
operations running smoothly.
Cleaning Materials Company of Choice
Nearly four decades of quality,
service and innovation
In this issue of Industrial Solutions, we are
pleased to feature QAR Supplies as our
Cleaning Materials Company of Choice
While the company supplies a broad range of
everyday catering and cleaning essentials,
it has also developed a reputation as a niche
supplier to the fine dining sector, providing
products that combine practicality with
professional presentation. This specialist
focus, together with carefully sourced
quality products and highly competitive
pricing, has enabled QAR Supplies to build
long-standing relationships with customers
across the industry.
What’s more, customer service remains at
the heart of the business, with the team
committed to providing reliable support
alongside a carefully selected product
range that meets the evolving needs
of the hospitality sector. Guided by its
longstanding philosophy of ‘Quality Products
& Competitive Prices,’ QAR Supplies continues
to demonstrate that experience, product
knowledge and personal service remain just
as important today as they were when the
company first opened its doors in 1986.
One of QAR Supplies’ longest-standing and
best-selling products is its All-Purpose
Black Cloth, a simple yet highly effective
item that has become a staple in many of
the UK’s leading hotels and restaurants.
Manufactured from a strong, non-woven
material, the cloth is durable, highly
absorbent and suitable for a wide variety
of cleaning and service tasks, making it
an essential product for busy hospitality
environments.
Its popularity, however, extends
beyond everyday cleaning. In fine dining
establishments, the distinctive black cloth
has become the preferred choice for
waiting staff when discreetly ‘crumbing’
tables between courses. The elegant black
finish blends seamlessly into formal table
service, allowing staff to maintain impeccable
presentation without drawing attention,
unlike traditional lighter-coloured cloths.
Favoured by chefs, restaurant managers
and front-of-house teams alike, the All-
Purpose Black Cloth combines practicality
with style, delivering reliable performance
while enhancing the overall dining experience.
Its versatility, quality and professional
appearance have helped make it one of QAR
Supplies’ signature products and a trusted
choice for hospitality professionals seeking
products that meet the highest standards of
service. It perfectly reflects the company’s
commitment to supplying quality products at
competitive prices while supporting excellence
throughout the hospitality industry.
Looking ahead, QAR Supplies remains
committed to supporting its loyal customer
base for as long as the industry needs its
expertise and service. While plans for semiretirement
are on the horizon over the
coming years for Fionna Bowie-Macdonald,
Sales & Marketing Manager, the company’s
dedication remains unchanged: to provide
quality products, competitive prices and
a helpful, personal service whenever
customers need it.

Heating & Cooling Systems
How ESS is
transforming
commercial heating
and cooling
n this issue of Industrial Solutions, we
Iare pleased to feature ESS Air Con as our
Heating & Cooling Systems Company of Choice.
Established in 2000, ESS has evolved from
a specialist HVAC distributor into the UK’s
leading supplier of commercial heat pump
systems. Partnering with global brands
such as Samsung and Panasonic, alongside
innovative manufacturers including Maxa
and Volta, ESS delivers tailored, highperformance
solutions to meet the complex
needs of modern commercial environments.
The demand for heat pumps across
commercial and industrial sectors continues
to accelerate, driven by the global push
toward decarbonisation and net zero targets.
In both the UK and Europe, government policy
and corporate sustainability commitments
are reshaping the heating landscape. As
organisations transition away from gas and
other fossil-fuel systems, ESS stands at the
forefront – providing efficient, low-carbon
alternatives that enable businesses to
reduce emissions, cut operating costs,
and future-proof their operations.
Over recent months, ESS has intensified its
focus on deploying large-scale heat pump
systems for commercial and industrial
properties – including offices, warehouses,
and manufacturing facilities. With a deep
understanding of the operational demands
and environmental challenges unique to these
sectors, ESS helps organisations enhance
building energy performance and transition
seamlessly to low-carbon heat pump
technology. In doing so, the company
enables clients to cut energy costs,
improve efficiency, and meet their
ESG and sustainability commitments.
In the industrial and logistics sectors,
the shift is already underway. Businesses
operating low-temperature industrial
processes, distribution centres, and
temperature-controlled warehouses are
increasingly investing in large heat pump
systems – achieving measurable gains in
energy efficiency, long-term cost reduction,
and carbon footprint reduction.
Maxa Heat Pumps represent one of ESS’s
most recent strategic partnerships, bringing
cutting-edge heating and cooling technology
from Italy to the UK. Manufactured by the
Ferroli Group, Maxa products are imported
and distributed across the UK, offering
industrial, commercial, and residential clients
high-performance climate control solutions.
Founded in 1992 by Luciano Tredicesimo
Ferroli, the company has grown into one of
Italy’s top five heat pump manufacturers
and a leading player in the domestic
air conditioning sector. Today, Maxa is
recognised globally for its expertise in
residential, commercial, and industrial air
conditioning solutions.
At the core of Maxa’s mission are
environmental comfort, sustainable growth,
and ecological responsibility. These values
underpin every stage of their design and
production processes, ensuring that each
system delivers efficiency, reliability,
and long-term value.
Maxa’s versatile portfolio of heating and cooling
solutions can be applied across a wide range
of environments – from domestic homes
and commercial offices to public facilities –
whether for new-build projects or retrofits.
With a comprehensive selection of heat pumps,
Maxa provides reliable, adaptable solutions
tailored to every installation requirement.
Through ESS, these advanced systems can
be supplied and installed wherever highquality
climate control is needed – from
cold, temperate environments to tropical
conditions – ensuring environmental comfort
and human wellbeing wherever they are
deployed.
ESS is also recognised for its deep expertise
and extensive product knowledge across a
wide range of air source heat pumps and air
conditioning systems.
Companies looking to transition to advanced
heating and cooling solutions often face the
challenge of sourcing skilled installers and
maintenance engineers. ESS recognises that
integrating new systems into commercial
buildings – particularly older properties
– can be complex. That’s why the company
invests heavily in customer support and
comprehensive training programs.
A key challenge across the industry is the
shortage of qualified installers and technical
expertise. ESS addresses this through its
ongoing installer training programs for heat
pumps, equipping professionals with the skills
needed to optimise system performance. By
partnering with businesses, ESS ensures that
organisations get the maximum efficiency
and reliability from their heating and air
conditioning systems.
Its highly skilled technical team supports both
complex industrial installations and standard
commercial applications, ensuring businesses
benefit from seamless access to the
latest high-performance, energy-efficient
technologies. Through strong partnerships
with leading brands such as Maxa, ESS
consistently delivers cutting-edge solutions
to the UK market.
Beyond supply, ESS provides end-to-end
support, including pre-sales consultations,
expert system design guidance,
comprehensive after-sales technical
assistance, and some of the industry’s most
respected ongoing training programs. With a
strong commitment to low-carbon and ecofriendly
solutions, ESS is helping businesses
– one heat pump at a time – to achieve and
exceed their net zero and ESG objectives.

Hybrid Technology
Sustainable off-grid power
is no longer a trade-off
cross construction, infrastructure and
Atemporary works, the expectations placed
on-site power have shifted. Cost remains
critical, but so do noise constraints, emissions
targets, ESG reporting requirements and the
practical reality that many locations simply
do not suit constant generator running. In
that context, the conversation is moving from
‘how do we power this site?’ to ‘how do we
power it efficiently, quietly and with provable
outcomes?’
Hybridisation is the clearest step-change. By
combining solar generation, lithium battery
storage and an intelligent backup generator in
one integrated system, modern hybrid power
reduces fuel burn without compromising
uptime. The key point is operational control:
when the system is genuinely ‘solar-first’ and
demand-matched, the generator becomes an
occasional support asset rather than a 24/7
necessity. The result is fewer refuelling visits,
reduced maintenance exposure, lower noise
and immediate cost impact.
At SolGen, the focus has been on building
a mobile, off-grid solution that maximises
renewable contribution in real conditions,
not only in idealised demonstrations. Our
‘Sunflower’ tracking approach is designed
to harvest more energy than fixed arrays
by automatically optimising panel pitch and
direction as the sun angle changes, with
bifacial technology to further increase
capture. In practical terms, this can materially
increase solar yield compared with static
systems, and that yield directly translates
into reduced generator runtime and fuel
consumption.
For many sites, the economics are now
difficult to ignore. When this power system
can cut fuel costs by up to £1,000 per week
versus a traditional diesel generator setup,
Commercial Transport
Reducing fleet downtime and
protecting vehicle value in 2026
while also enabling substantial carbon
reduction, hybrid power becomes a commercial
decision as much as a sustainability one. SolGen
systems are built to generate the reporting
that procurement teams and ESG leads
increasingly need: remote monitoring, real-time
and historical performance data, fuel and CO 2
saving outputs, and exportable reporting for
audits and sustainability submissions.
The direction of travel is clear. Sites that
adopt intelligent hybrid power early are not
only reducing emissions; they are stabilising
operating costs, improving working conditions,
and de-risking compliance. The future of
temporary off-grid power will be defined by
systems that deliver measurable outcomes,
automatically, day after day.

Commercial vehicle repair strategies
for UK fleets
n today’s commercial transport environment,
Idowntime is more than just an inconvenience
– it’s a tangible cost. For fleet managers,
engineers, business owners, and insurers
across the UK, every hour a vehicle is off the
road impacts productivity, delivery efficiency,
and profitability.
As a leading specialist in commercial vehicle
repairs in the UK, Spectrum VR Group
recognises that reducing fleet downtime while
safeguarding long-term vehicle value is vital in
2026 and beyond.
The true cost of fleet downtime
When a commercial vehicle requires
accident repair or structural bodywork, the
consequences go far beyond the workshop:
■ Missed operational targets
■ Costs of replacement hire vehicles
■ Increased insurance premiums
■ Disruption to fleet planning
For HGV operators and commercial fleet
managers, efficient accident repair is essential.
A quick turnaround must be balanced with highquality
workmanship to ensure vehicles return
to service safely and in compliance.
Why choosing the right commercial
bodyshop matters
Not all repairers are prepared to manage
modern HGV and commercial vehicle
repairs. Advanced materials, manufacturer
specifications, and safety standards require
specialist expertise. As experienced HGV repair
specialists, Spectrum VR Group offers:
■ Precise and thorough damage assessment
■ Manufacturer-approved truck and van
repair techniques
■ Structural repairs conducted in accordance
with BS 10125 standards
■ Investment in modern equipment and repair
technology.
Maintaining recognised accreditations and
manufacturer approvals ensures repairs are
done correctly the first time – decreasing
the risk of repeat damage and prolonged
downtime.
Reviewing your fleet repair
strategy?
If you are reviewing your fleet
vehicle repair strategy in
2026, consider how accredited
workmanship, manufacturer
approvals, and efficient
repair planning can reduce
downtime and enhance longterm
performance. Choosing
a trusted commercial vehicle
repair partner isn’t just
about fixing damage – it’s
about safeguarding your
fleet investment, ensuring
compliance, and keeping your
vehicles safely on the road.
For four decades, Spectrum
VR Group has helped UK fleets minimise
disruption and maximise performance through
professional, responsible commercial vehicle
repair.

SIMONBOX: Revolutionising electrical
installations with elegance and efficiency
he SIMONBOX IP66 exemplifies
Toutstanding quality and innovation,
setting a new standard in the
industry by addressing the
design challenge of making
a waterproof floor outlet
which is easy to access
and easy to use.
Designed for use in hard floor
areas which require occasional
power, data connection, and
an IP protection rating, the
SIMONBOX IP66 plays a significant
role in the advancement of
electrical solutions.
For example, its ease of use is
remarkable. There are no lids to
unscrew or extra parts to assemble. Users
simply pop open the lid using the standard slide
or the Allen key security mechanism. Inside,
the outlet can be fitted with either a UK 13amp
or 5amp socket. When in use, the outlet meets
the IP20 standard, and when closed, it achieves
IP66 protection.
The SIMONBOX is available in two finishes:
brushed stainless steel and brass. Users have
the option of selecting waterproof sockets,
with choices for a flush floor or a trimmed
box finish. Depending on the floor type, there
Outdoor Buildings
are two back box options: one for
screed floors and another for
raised or suspended floors.
When installed in a concrete
floor, the SIMONBOX is
designed to sit flush with the
surrounding surface. For
raised floor installations,
commonly used in decking
projects, the SIMONBOX
sits slightly elevated to
prevent water pooling
around it. Internally,
the back box features a
self-drain opening for added
protection.
Correctly positioned floor
boxes ensure that power sockets are
located exactly where needed, eliminating
unsightly and hazardous trailing cables. The
SIMONBOX is frequently used in projects
requiring occasional floor outlets, such as
pop-up display areas, and over the years, the
SIMONBOX has gained popularity in a diverse
range of commercial applications, including
airports, car showrooms, shop fit-outs,
and concourse areas.
What’s more, one of the first UK retail chains
to specify the SIMONBOX was NEXT HOME
over a decade ago and today, it remains an
integral part of NEXT’s commercial fit-out
specifications. Additionally, the SIMONBOX
has seen growing popularity in both private
domestic projects and larger commercial
applications.

Steel Buildings
Steel solutions, engineered for the future
astle Steel Buildings is proud to be one
Cof the UK’s leading suppliers of steel and
portal frame buildings. Based in Yorkshire, the
company designs and delivers bespoke solutions
for a wide range of applications – from private
garages and workshops to agricultural,
commercial, and industrial buildings. Serving the
commercial, leisure, equestrian, and farming
sectors, Castle Steel Buildings is committed to
providing durable, low-impact structures built
to stand the test of time.
The company continually tests its systems to
ensure it remains at the forefront of the steel
building industry. All buildings meet – and exceed
– British Standards BS6399 and ISO: 9001:2000,
giving customers confidence that their
structures are designed to withstand even the
most challenging environments and climates.
Why steel?
Steel buildings are highly regarded for their
strength, flexibility, and sustainability. Their
ability to be shaped into a wide range of
forms makes steel the material of choice for
bespoke, versatile designs. Unlike wood, steel
does not rot, warp, or degrade when exposed
to moisture or pests, ensuring long-term
structural integrity. Additional protection, such
as galvanisation and specialist coatings, further
enhances resistance to corrosion and rust.
With fire safety a top priority across the
construction industry, Castle Steel Buildings
designs structures that fully comply with fire
protection and thermal insulation regulations,
offering clients reassurance and peace of
mind. Every building carries an accredited CE
mark, ensuring robust performance in even
the most challenging environmental and climate
conditions. In terms of sustainability, precision
engineering minimises waste and creates
structures with built-in longevity – requiring
minimal maintenance for years to come.
When it comes to constructing safe and durable
steel buildings, Kingspan Quadcore insulated
panels excel. Whether it’s an agricultural facility,
industrial unit, or commercial space, they
ensure that your building can withstand fire
hazards by offering a level of fire protection
that sets them apart from traditional
materials. Noted as the smartest choice for
those seeking safety, durability, and compliance
in their steel buildings, Kingspan Quadcore is a
next-generation insulated panel core material
that is made using a hybrid closed-cell structure
that ensures outstanding thermal performance
and, crucially, superior fire resistance.
Established in 2017, Castle Steel Buildings offers
a comprehensive turnkey service covering
design, manufacture, and installation through
its trusted distributor network. All steel frame
buildings are designed in-house and engineered
to meet stringent British building codes and
regulations. In addition to supplying bespoke
structures, the company provides a leading
in-house installation service, delivered by a
skilled team of fitters and installers. Castle
Steel Buildings also offers expert guidance
on groundwork requirements and supplies
full structural calculation packs tailored for
specific building control applications.

Recycled plastic educational furniture
maintenance-free outdoor classroom products
sing Recycled Plastic Wood and Recycled Mixed
UPlastic Lumber collected from UK Homes and
Businesses – Eco friendly and Sustainable
Recycled plastic lumber or recycled plastic
wood, is made from taking your waste plastic
and processing it for reuse. 66% less energy is
needed than is required in production of virgin
plastic, and it releases a whopping 250% less
carbon dioxide.
We turn this recycled plastic into aesthetically
pleasing, useful products, for the general
public, construction companies, local authorities,
educational institutions and hospitals all over
the world.
All our products are recycled as well as being
recyclable.
This is the ideal of recycling. It’s a closed loop.
All the plastic products we use as consumers
should be capable of recycling indefinitely
making for a sustainable future for our children
and a cleaner less toxic environment.
In some cases we also reuse rather than recycle.
For example, we have a Recycled Plastic
Compost Tumbler/Compost Bin –
appropriately named, ‘The Compost Creator.’
For this we reuse a food grade plastic drum
previously used to transport food products.
Reuse is vastly superior to simply recycling
There is no significant consumption of energy,
as there is no manufacturing
process involving heavy use of
energy. We just drill a few holes in the drum
and clean it up as best we can.
Both recycling plastic as well as reusing it keeps
large amounts of plastic waste out of expensive
and now difficult to find landfill.
This results in a lower carbon footprint and
reduced human contribution to global warming
and climate change.
Recycled Mixed Plastic Lumber, recycled HDPE
and recycled polystyrene (which is the primary
waste plastic in our recycled plastic wood or
recycled plastic timber) are what we make all
our products out of.
These, often brightly coloured, Recycled plastic
products are extremely durable and attractive.
They will maintain their appearance for many
years to come.
Our highly acclaimed Compost Tumbler, or

the company:
“The last 12 months
have been extremely
positive. Inquiries are on a

Correct sealing plays a crucial role in

Service Sealing Solutions Ltd –
suppliers of DOYMA products
Service Sealing Solutions Ltd are the sole UK distributor of DOYMA
products. Wherever services are installed through walls, ceilings or
floors, penetrating water may cause damage to buildings. Lack of
attention to the points of entry of pipes and cables into the building
can have serious results: damp cellars, equipment damaged by
water ingress and high repair costs. Service sealing systems ensure
professional and perfect pipe sealing, thus presenting excellent
preventative measures against structural damage. The very best in
German engineering is used to seal penetration points to the wall
to permanently prevent any infiltration of gases and water into the
building, and the duct sealing systems are guaranteed for 25 years.
Service Sealing Solutions supply the full range of products to suit all
situations for power cables, communication cables, pipes and ducts,
and specialising in sealing district heating pipes.

Fire & Security
Meeting modern education
safety needs
or over 30 years, Fircroft Technologies has
Fprovided audible and visual alarm systems
tailored to education settings, from schools
to universities. Its solutions meet strict fire
safety standards while remaining simple to
use for staff.
The ASYRA Wireless platform enables
these alerts on a single wireless system,
monitored via a mobile app, reducing cabling
and disruption. Ideal for busy campuses,
it offers fast installation, scalability, and
integrated safety management. Operating
independently off Wi-Fi or internet, it ensures
reliable performance when it matters most.
We spoke with Kieron Chapman, Managing
Director at Fircroft Technologies, to explore
why the ASYRA Wireless platform is
particularly well suited to the education sector.
Discussing how the company is tailoring
its solutions to meet the distinct safety
challenges faced by schools and campuses,
Kieron explained, “We have taken our extensive
experience of designing premium specification fire
alarm audible and visual signalling products and
applied it to developing a lockdown alarm suitable for
schools. We originally focussed on one of our export
markets where lockdown legislation was introduced
before in the UK. Then, with Martyn’s Law progressing,
we enhanced the product range to deliver a solution
for the UK public sector. As cost is critical for Public
Sector budgets, we focussed on using our high output
devices to reduce the number of devices required on
a system compared to other solutions. This has a
big impact on costs. By taking our proven technology
and modifying tones and flash colours to ensure they
are different from normal fire alarm tones and flash
colours to avoid confusion, we have a simple, secure
and affordable Lockdown alarm solution.”
With increasing focus on both fire safety and
lockdown procedures in education, Kieron then
explained how the ASYRA wireless system supports
multi-scenario emergency response, “We strongly
believe that while our ASYRA wireless system can
be added to an existing fire alarm system to provide
a comprehensive Lockdown alarm solution, the
preferred solution is to keep them as separate systems.
If one system developed a fault or was vandalised
during a risk scenario, we would not want both systems
to be affected. Aswell as that, a fire system by law
should take priory to any other function it provides,
so, a scenario where an intruder entered the building
and activated a call point could cause a conflicting
event and increase risk. If, after a risk assessment,
the client requires a combined system solution, the
ASYRA system can do this with simple, ‘Fail Safe’ I/O
modules to interface inputs and outputs.”
When asked how their systems help ensure faster
alarm activation and safer evacuation or lockdown
procedures, Kieron said, “With the ASYRA system being
wireless, and us having weather proof versions of the
lockdown activation devices, we can position them at
the most suitable locations for early alarm activation.
This may be near a car park or entrance to a school
or even in the playing field areas. The earlier the alarm
is initiated; the sooner staff and pupils get to safety.
On top of that, we have a wireless communications
protocol that reacts quickly meaning that on the typical
system it is 3-5 seconds between triggering a device
and signalling being seen and heard. Some other
systems take considerably longer to react.”
One resounding complication in the education
sector is that most buildings are very old, and
different educational environments require different
needs from an alarm system. In response to this,
Kieron explained how the system can adapt to all
environments and buildings, “Being wireless, there
is no cabling required. We recently had an ASYRA
system installed in a school of 1,500 pupils in four
man-days from start to finish, and by working before
and after school hours for testing, the disruption
was minimal. Every wireless solution has to cater for
reduced coverage when dense construction materials
or site layout demands. The ASYRA system has a
wonderfully simplistic way to scale system sizes.”
“Each call point can be set as a ‘Master’ device
enabling up to 254 other devices of any type to be
connected to it. If, due to the site characteristics,
additional wireless coverage is required, simply
create additional zones with more master call
points. Each Master call point communications
hub becomes a zone on the system. Each of these
zones are then linked together to make one system
by using a special function in the I/O modules. It
is best practice to determine coverage and zoning
requirements before starting the installation and
this can be done with a site survey using the link
verification mode built into the products.”
Finally, we asked Kieron what innovations he sees
shaping the future of fire and safety systems in the
education sector, “Innovations in the technology tend
to take time due to extensive approvals processes
on fire systems. There are updates on government
guidance being introduced regularly in this sector.
We expect that, in time, there will be new standards
created that apply to lockdown alarms and other
systems also. We are members on trade associations
and hope to be involved in that process. We believe
that while providing standards and recommendations
for a safety critical solution, we should keep the wide
variety of customer application needs in mind to
ensure that the solution for each client and site is
safe, secure, fit for purpose, installed to a high
standard and remains affordable.”

Industrial Emission Monitoring & Gas Manufacturing Control
ECO PHYSICS AG develops new three-channel
chemiluminescence analyser (NO/NO 2
/NH 3
)
CO PHYSICS AG offers innovative analytical
Esolutions for measurement tasks
in the fields of environment, health and
process control. Using its vital expertise
and technology to contribute towards
environmental preservation, human health,
and industrial innovation, ECO PHYSICS’
interdisciplinary research and development
team work tirelessly to deliver the best
customer orientated and tailor-made
products and services for the industry.
Founded in 1990 through a management buyout,
ECO PHYSICS stands strong today as an
independent Swiss shareholder’s company
with an active board of members who are
committed to the future growth and success
of the company. We spoke to Dr. Grischa Peter
Feuersänger, Head of Sales & Marketing who
explained how the past 12 months have fared.
“We have received a positive recovery post
pandemic. Many public projects were reopened
which generated a lot of opportunities for
new references. The war in East Europe is a
new tough challenge to overcome, especially
for companies that rely almost completely on
importing parts and exporting their finished
products. But the main challenge for all of
us has particularly been the manufacturing
costs, shipping routes and exchange rates.
Since 2022, we have used this time to expand
our product portfolio and modernise our
production line. New staff has been hired for
production and R&D, and we have rearranged
the supply chain due to the rise in production
costs. We have adapted our yearly forecast
to cater to this, we know it will be hard, but
optimisation is our current goal.”
Knowing there is no quick fix to economic
changes, ECO PHYSICS is determined to continue
innovating and has developed a new threechannel
analyser based on chemiluminescence.
As an upgrade from the The nCLD AL2,
The nCLDAL3/8555 CY analyser is the next
generation in high precision nitrogen oxide
measurement. Unique in speed and reliability,
the nCLDAL3/8555 CY is modular designed and
capable of simultaneously NO, NO 2
, NO X
, NH 3
and
NOX-Amines. The new and intuitive graphical
user interface also individually displays and
connects to other instruments’ data.
Overall stability and reliability are lifted to
a new level. The optional electro-mechanical
bypass system balances out even the fastest
of pressure variations occurring in the sample
flow. Furthermore, the analyser is adaptable
to numerous non-standardised applications
and the calibration of the unit runs quickly and
automatically with all necessary data available
anywhere at any time. Its user friendly,
compact, modular, and intelligent hosting its
own CPU whilst enabling interaction with other
CPUs by BUS-communication.
Additionally, ECO PHYSICS has also been
developing upgrade kits for all its existing
products to help counteract some of the
problematic complications the supply chain
has caused. “We have used this chance for
some substantial upgrades in hardware,
software and gas flow controls,” added Dr.
Grischa Peter Feuersänger.
Going forward, ECO PHYSICS is excited to
continue working on optimising production
workflow whilst simultaneously expanding
its current portfolio and developing new
technologies.
In closing, we asked Dr. Grischa Peter
Feuersänger how the company felt receiving
our award. He responded, “We are extremely
honoured to be nominated, thank you.”

Acoustic Wall & Ceiling Products
Standard Charted Bank, London
Gustafs Panel System
M Moser Architects
BPC Interior Solutions
Photography by Liam Hammond
SA worked with M Moser Architects and BPC
LInteriors to deliver the acoustic ceiling at
the client suite areas at Standard Chartered
Bank at 1 Basinghall Avenue, in 2024. The design
brief required a high-performance acoustic
ceiling with some visual texture and character
that would work elegantly alongside the minimal
aesthetic of the front of house space.
Gustafs Panel System was specified at this job
for its accredited top performance fire and
acoustic testing as well as our ability to supply
material with a full FSC chain of custody for
sustainably sourced natural timber veneer and
full product Environmental Product Declaration
covering the lifespan of the materials used.
Here we supplied almost 200m 2 of panels in
natural Oak veneer with a 12%
white pigmented lacquer for a
bright and neutral panel finish.
The refurbishment in the client
suite area is part of a multi-year
refurbishment of the central
London property aiming to
improve their facility for a more
flexible workspace for clients
and employees. The building
upgrade scheme aims to achieve
BREEAM Excellence through sustainable sourcing
and working practices for a holistic approach to
improving workplace design.
With high performance acoustics being a key
requirement for the space; choosing a ceiling
that can achieve that without sacrificing style is
a complex task. Acoustic performance is driven
by absorbent materials, and exposure to these
through a solid surface product. Tradititional
perforated acoustic panels have through-andthrough
holes to give exposure to absorbing
layers and whilst this can be used as a striking
design feature in itself it doesn’t always fit the
intent of the space or more modern visual styles.
Nano perforated panels are one of the options
supplied by LSA Projects and Gustafs which
achieve Class A acoustic performance on a
solid timber surface panel without throughand-through
holes. Nano perforations use a
high-density of holes in the core material to
allow maximum sound exposure to absorbent
materials behind and the panels are faced
with a micro-perforated veneer. This microperforated
veneer has 0.5mm holes at less than
2mm intervals across the surface for even
audio exposure across the panel and almost
no visual impact from the perforations. Since
it’s launch in 2013 it has become the best-selling
acoustic option from Gustafs; undergoing
further product development in recent years to
improve the tested acoustic performance from
B to A, as well as improving options for veneer
manipulation including staining and routing for
more design options.
In addition to acoustic performance, Gustafs
panels come with their own proprietary
installation grid system, Capax. This system
has predesigned details which combine panel
edges and mounting profiles for invisible and
demountable fixing across walls and ceilings
with options for corners, site-cuts, and angled
installation.
For the 200m 2 ceiling at Standard Chartered
designers worked with the installers and LSA
to create a ceiling using standard size panels
and standard details for optimum system
efficiency and flexibility of installation on-site.
By using a standard panel module, all panels are
demountable and interchangeable making them
perfect for spaces with servicing and access
needs in the upper soffit. The capax ceiling
system clips together to form a solid suspended
mounting grid for panels with space to insert
acoustic mineral wool. The T-shaped supporting
grid profiles run along the length of each panel
and fit perfectly into veneer wrapped grooves
in the panel edges for seamless installation.
The stability of the gypsum particleboard
core removes the need for any expansion or
movement gaps between panels meaning that
all panel abutments can be completely flush and
millimetre perfect without the risk of panels
warping over time.
In addition to making the ceiling easy to
manufacture and install; using the same size
panels throughout allows the veneer grain
structure to be more consistent. Flitches
of veneer with FSC certification are always
grouped together for tracking within their
chain of custody meaning veneer sheets in
an order with this certification will be from
the same timber mill and often the same tree
or tree harvest. Veneer flitches then arrive
at Gustafs and are applied to panels in these
groups giving the best consistency in flitchmatching
of grain structure and tone.
This ceiling installation at Standard Chartered
Bank is one of our signature projects from 2024,
it is a great example of what can be achieved
within the framework of the standard Gustafs
Panel System. It highlights the great work
Gustafs and LSA have put in over the years to
make the system as successful and versatile
as it is now and why our installers keep coming
back to us. We love working on bespoke projects
and pushing the limits of what can be achieved
with our products but jobs like this are a
testament to the core system we champion
time and time again and a real exercise in
simplicity and trusting the process.

NISIG, a global leader in deep hole drilling
Umachines and technology, has launched
a new assemble-to-order program for its
versatile UNE series gundrilling machines.
Designed to combine the speed of fast
delivery with the flexibility of custom
configuration, the program redefines
how job shops and manufacturers acquire
critical gundrilling capabilities.
“Gundrilling machines are not as common as
CNC mills or lathes, but that doesn’t mean
customers should settle for longer lead
times, compromises in performance, or poor
service,” said Anthony Fettig, CEO of UNISIG.
“With this new program, we’re making it
easier than ever to say yes to gundrilling.”
UNISIG’s assemble-to-order initiative
maintains inventory of all major components
of the UNE series, allowing machines to
be assembled to each customer’s exact
specifications – without the waste or
delays associated with pre-built stock or
full custom builds. With shorter lead times,
often half that of traditional build-to-order
systems, customers can get precisely what
they need faster.
“At UNISIG, we’re always focused on what’s
next, and our assemble-to-order program is
a prime example,” added Fettig. “Implementing
this approach has modernized key areas
of our operations by improving machine
quality, shortening lead times, and giving us
better visibility into service part needs and
inventory management.”
This effort required deep co-ordination across
engineering, supply chain, manufacturing, and

Maintenance in Balance
MAINTENANCE IN BALANCE, THE ONLY SOFTWARE YOU’LL EVER NEED!
MiB is a product/service that builds in diagnostic support for multiple assets via Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence.
MiB incorporates the diagnostic knowledge of expert diagnosticians in the conventions of mature condition monitoring techniques and
aligns this with AI functionality to identify true outliers and then offer meaningful diagnostic advice.
As more assets are managed remotely and fewer onboard personnel are sufficiently experienced to deal with all scenarios, it is becoming
clear that a marriage of technology and experience is needed to balance the equation.
Objectives
Using our asset condition assessment software MIB, we will create an integrated software platform for undertaking prescriptive
maintenance on your ship’s machinery, structures, and auxiliary systems. This will be achieved by using data from existing condition
monitoring, diagnostic sensors and systems, the implementation of advanced predictive analytics and the integration of a maintenance
actions/prescription database.
Based upon advanced, artificial intelligence (AI) and deep learning algorithms MIB will prescribe, the most appropriate maintenance strategy in
real-time for every asset under its control, based on the subtle but pre-alarm indications of emerging faults that will occur at a future time.
Specific objectives of MIB are to:
ä Establish the monitoring and maintenance needs of each vessel
ä Specify the software platform parameters based on each vessel’s requirements
ä Deploy our intelligent monitoring software module
ä Integrate the module into the MIB platform and provide routine updates to the crew
