DISCOVER VALENCIA

Spain’s third largest city is located just a 2-hour coach ride

from Benidorm. Valencia’s historic centre is one of the

largest in Spain and its monuments, attractions, shops, bars

and restaurants make it one of the country’s most popular

tourist destinations.

The city was founded as a Roman colony in 138BC. It was

later occupied by Moroccan and Arab Moors before being

conquered by the Christian King James I of Aragon. Valencia

has been Spain’s capital city twice and its long history means

it’s steeped in art and culture, which is reflected in its popular

traditions, such as the Fallas fiestas which were declared

Fiestas of National Tourist Interest in 1965.

Head right into the heart of Valencia’s historic centre where

you can spend the day at your leisure.

southern Costa Blanca coast en-route to the stunning city

of Alicante, this city is known by many but explored by few.

Alicante is the capital city of the Alicante province dating

back to the third century BC.

Alicante was once one of the most important ports of the

Iberian Peninsula with famous Alicantean wine being the

product most exported. Alicante is home to the beautiful

castle of Santa Bárbara that is perched high above the city

and is the perfect place to visit, to get a birds-eye view of the

surroundings.

DISCOVER CALPE

Explore the maze of enchanting streets and squares in the

old town of Calpe on the first stop of this two-stop excursion.

Adorned with brightly coloured houses, street art, museums,

art galleries bars and restaurants, you won’t be disappointed

and it is the perfect destination to pass some time.

The next stop of the day we will visit the port area of Calpe

that is famous for its seafood restaurants and stunning rock,

the “Peñon de Ifach” that towers some 332 metres above.

Here you will have time for lunch and you can take a wander

around the port area, take in the sights towards Moraira

from the “playa de la fossa” beach with its golden sand or

just sit back and relax as the world goes by. Whatever way

you wish to pass the time; Calpe is a lovely place to spend a

day.

EXPLORING

GUADALEST

No visit to the Costa Blanca is complete without a trip to its

jewel in the crown “Guadalest”. This fortified village perched

precariously on a mountain top, is surrounded by some of the

highest points in the province of Alicante, the Sierra Aixorta,

Sierra Aitana and Sierra Serrella. Enjoy around three hours of

free time to explore this beautiful town.

The village of Guadalest dates back over 1000 years and

is steeped in history, from the prison and dungeon built

in the 12th century to the old washing house used by the

local women and has just over 200 inhabitants. Guadalest

is probably as well-known not only for the symbolic castle

but also for the reservoir which serves all main surrounding

towns including Benidorm with their water.

THE ISLAND OF

TABARCA

The Island of Tabarca is the only inhabited island of the

Valencia Community, located of the coast of Alicante

approximately eleven nautical miles away, near the cape

of Santa Pola. Its shores once served as a refuge for

Barbary Pirates. In the 18th century, Charles III ordered

the fortification and establishment of a village to house

several Genoese fishing families who had been held captive

in the Tunisian city of Tabarka. The walls surrounding its

urban core have been declared a Historic-Artistic site and a

Cultural heritage Asset. Tabarca today is home to around 10

permanent residents and attracts thousands of tourists each

year to bathe in its crystalline waters and wanger its curious

little streets.

AND ALGAR

WATERFALLS

Discover two of the most visited villages in Spain. The first

stop of the day will be the mountain top village of Guadalest,

where passengers will have two hours of free time to explore

this truly stunning place and visit one of the numerous

museums, shops and cafes. The village dates back over 1000

years and is steeped in history, from the prison and dungeon

built in the 12th century to the old washing house used by

the local woman and has just over 200 inhabitants.

The village of Algar is in complete contrast to Benidorm and

really is a holiday must. There is something for everyone at

this beautiful paradise. The Waterfalls are such a peaceful

place, where you can just sit and relax and enjoy a picnic

while dipping your toes in the icy cold water in one of the

many pools. For the more adventurous there are areas

designated for diving into the icy cold waters if you dare!

ALGAR WATERFALLS

The village of Algar is in complete contrast to Benidorm and

really is a holiday must. There is something for everyone at

this beautiful paradise.

The Waterfalls are such a peaceful place, where you can just

sit and relax while dipping your toes in the icy cold waters of

the many levels that Algar offers. The waterfalls are situated

on several different levels, and there is a pathway and steps

which you can follow right up to the top. On the way up

you pass natural bathing pools, a diving pool, spectacular

scenery and plenty of places to sit and relax or have a swim.

Swimming is permitted in the deeper areas and there is a

designated diving zone.

JALON &

THE CAVE OF SKULLS

Spain is famous for its winemaking and arguably produces

some of the world’s finest wines and the Costa Blanca is no

exception. Located just 30-40 minutes away from Benidorm,

you will find the award-winning wine making region of Jalon,

set in a picturesque valley surrounded by mountains.

Jalon is not just famous for its wines though. The valley is

lined with almond trees and in February and March when

the trees blossom, the sea of pink and white that covers the

valley draws people by the coach load, to see the beautiful

sight. On a Saturday, Jalon plays host to one of the oldest

and largest “rastros” (antiques market) of the Costa, that

draws people from afar to rummage through the goods and

antiques on sale.

Next, we head inland, passing through valleys of vineyards

and orchards filled with almond & orange trees before

arriving at caves of the “skulls” that are believed to have been

formed some 150 million years ago and where they have

found traces of life dating back to over 50 thousand years

ago!
