FOREVER
GAUDÍ
BARCELONA CELEBRATES THE CENTENARY OF ITS BEST-KNOWN ARCHITECT.
LE CENTENAIRE DE L’ARCHITECTE LE PLUS CÉLÈBRE DE BARCELONE.
BARCELONA CELEBRA EL CENTENARIO DE SU ARQUITECTO MÁS UNIVERSAL.
To commemorate the centenary of Antoni Gaudí’s death, the
Pelsynera hair salon in Arenys de Mar (Barcelona) reinterpreted
his creative genius through hair. Inspired by the celebrated
trencadís, the iconic fragmented mosaic technique found in
works such as the Sagrada Familia and La Pedrera, the collection
translates the chromatic richness, organic forms and innovative
spirit of the modernist master into the language of hairdressing.
This outstanding work was created especially for Estetica
Magazine and photographed by Esteban Roca.

DREAMS
EMI KUSANO: K-STYLE SYNTHETICS OF POP DREAM, FASHION & DIGITAL.
K-STYLE SYNTHÉTIQUE ENTRE RÊVE POP, MODE ET NUMÉRIQUE.
EMI KUSANO: SINTÉTICOS K-STYLE ENTRE SUEÑO POP, MODA Y DIGITAL.
Emi Kusano understood something before most, that the future
would be pastel. Born in Japan in 1990, she works with AI,
photography and pop memory, polishing the kawaii imaginary
into a slightly unstable mirror: candy pink, lilac and synthetic
blues grace from a digital interface. Gloss dreams: desires and
images dreamed by an algorithm, the K-style repertoire - magical
girl, shojo, anime, quietly recirculated. Ornament Survival at √K
Contemporary, Tokyo, confirms it. She works not on memory,
but on how the image never quite consolidates.

COSTUME ART: THE CONNECTION BETWEEN CLOTHING & BODY AT THE MET.
LE LIEN ENTRE LE VÊTEMENT ET LE CORPS : L’ART DU COSTUME AU MET.
ARTE DEL VESTUARIO: LA CONEXIÓN ENTRE LA ROPA Y EL CUERPO EN EL MET.

Costume Art examines the centrality of the dressed body,
juxtaposing garments and works of art from across the The New
York Metropolitan Museum of Art’s vast collection. The
exhibition creates pairings that not only illuminate the indivisible
connection between clothing and the body, but also the complex
interplay between artistic representations of the body and fashion
as an embodied artform. The show will inaugurate the Museum’s
nearly 12,000-square-foot Condé M. Nast Galleries, named in
recognition of the organization’s late founder.
COSTUME ART explore la place centrale du corps vêtu, en
juxtaposant vêtements et œuvres d’art issus de la vaste collection
du Metropolitan Museum of Art de New York. L’exposition

DANNY PATO: WHERE FASHION, SCULPTURE AND IMAGINATION COLLIDE.
MODE, SCULPTURE ET IMAGINATION ... L’UNIVERS DE DANNY PATO.
DANNY PATO: DONDE CONFLUYEN MODA, ESCULTURA E IMAGINACIÓN.
Danny Pato’s new collection is a visionary journey through
myth, nature and creativity. Captured by long-term collaborator
Mara Sommer, it reimagines the Garden of Eden suspended
between beauty and menace — where lush blooms coexist with
the serpent’s presence. Hairstyles draw from black peonies,
poisonous mushrooms and spider chrysanthemums, while
Pato’s original garments marry rigour and theatricality.
A meditation on fragility: in the most perfect places, something
always awaits to change the destiny of things.
In 2026 Danny Pato
won the title of New Zealand
Hairdresser of the Year
for the 9th consecutive year.

80 YEARS...
AND THE
BEST
IS YET
TO COME
Framesi has celebrated 80 years in
business. A remarkable milestone
- where did the story begin?
“I prefer to start in the present: we have
just won the Best Hair Product award at
the Cosmoprof Awards 2026, with
Morphosis Restructure Hair Leave-In
Molecular Booster - the only European
product shortlisted in its category - the
perfect way to mark this anniversary. The
company was founded in Milan in 1945,
during a period of economic and social
reconstruction in Italy. My father,
Roberto Franchina, established it
alongside two partners, and the name
Framesi continues its journey of sustained growth in
pursuit of excellence - a future focused forward, yet firmly
rooted in the past. An interview with Fabio Franchina.
Framesi was formed from the initials of
their surnames. After the war, Italy was
ready to dream again and to feel good
about itself. Left to run things alone, my
father had the courage and the vision to
focus on simple but much-needed
products: first talcum powder, then
brilliantine and fragrances. Practical
solutions, perfectly in tune with the
everyday needs of that particular
moment in history.”
E08

“The pioneering spirit of our origins
remains the driving force behind a
mission built on the research and
development of new products and
opportunities - exclusively for the
hairdressers of today and tomorrow.”
What values define the brand’s
DNA?
“From the very beginning, Framesi
developed a defining characteristic
that would shape its identity over time:
a deep connection with professional
hairdressers, listening to their needs
and directing research towards
sector-specific solutions. In the Fifties
and Sixties, my father made a
significant strategic decision, focusing
increasingly on hair products and
gradually stepping away from other
categories. It was during this period
that we began investing seriously in
colour research, introducing the first
professional hair colours Made in Italy
and helping to drive real innovation
across the market. Another key
milestone came in the Seventies, with
the formation of Italian Style Framesi
and the introduction of a thenrevolutionary
concept: the Total Look.
Hair was no longer seen as an isolated
element, but as an integral part of a
person’s overall style, in constant
dialogue with fashion and international
trends. This approach marked a
genuine turning point, drawing the
world of hairstyling closer to fashion,
creativity and image, and elevating the
status of the hairdresser in the
process. Hair fashion became central,
and Framesi today runs an education
programme unmatched in the industry
for the number of events, projects and
technical staff involved. Framesi is not
simply a manufacturer - it is a genuine
partner to professionals, providing
education, ongoing development and
dedicated services.”
When did the international
expansion begin?
“We started looking at overseas
markets as far back as the Seventies,
particularly North America. That was
the starting point for a growth journey
that has taken us to where we are
today - present in 75 countries
worldwide.”.
How has the company managed to
respond to evolving consumer
needs without losing its own
identity?
“We have continued to evolve in step
with the changing demands of the
Italian market and beyond. From the
2000s onwards, consumer attention
shifted increasingly towards wellbeing,
ingredient quality and environmental
sustainability. The launch of targeted
ranges - such as Morphosis - aligned
with these values reflects our ongoing
commitment to innovation without ever
losing touch with our roots. At the
same time, we have integrated digital
tools and strengthened our investment
in scientific research. We produce 650
different products, 280 of which have
been launched in the last five years - a
figure that speaks powerfully to the
pace of our evolution. The Framesi
mission is a simple one: to work for the
success of hairdressers. We are a
prime example of an Italian company
that has grown on a truly global scale
while maintaining a strong family
identity. My sister Roberta and I lead
the business together, remaining
faithful to our original ethos and
demonstrating how innovation, client
focus and strategic consistency can
transform a small post-war enterprise
into a brand that is recognised and
respected around the world.”

COLOUR

Hair colour is more than

Hair colour has always been one of the most
powerful services a salon can offer. It builds loyalty,
drives repeat visits and, when positioned correctly,
represents one of the most significant revenue
streams in the business. Yet for many salons, colour
remains undervalued – treated as a creative showcase
rather than the commercial cornerstone it can and
should be. As the industry continues to evolve, the
most successful salon businesses are those that
approach colour not just as a craft, but as a carefully
considered commercial strategy. From the way colour
education shapes the confidence and capability of a
team, to the pricing structures that properly reflect
the true value of the service, the conversation around
colour is shifting. Clients are more informed than ever,
trends move faster than ever, and the pressure on
salon owners to stay ahead – technically, commercially
and creatively – has never been more acute.
At the same time, the economics of colour are under
increasing scrutiny. The cost of professional colour
products has risen considerably, the time required
to deliver complex services has grown, and client
expectations have never been higher. The salons that
are truly thriving are those that have confronted
these realities head on – restructuring
their service menus, investing
seriously in their teams, and
building colour strategies
that are as focused on
profitability as they are
on creativity. Getting
colour right, commercially
speaking, is no longer a
bonus; it is the difference
between a salon that
consistently grows and
one that gradually but
unmistakably stands still.

THE EDUCATOR
“I have been an educator for more than 40
years and the role is constantly evolving
– taking into account craft, creativity and
ensuring all our services are commercially
viable. Cut and colour go hand in hand,
and we designed our Colour Club
specifically to maximise the client
experience while encouraging loyalty and
retention. The subscription model gives
clients consistently great colour all year
round, while keeping our colourists
consistently busy. Working with brands
such as Wella Professionals on training in
the latest trends, techniques and customer
demands means we are truly experts in
our craft – and that expertise is what
keeps clients coming back.”
We asked five leading professionals
to share their own distinct perspective on
what it truly takes to build a successful,
colour-led salon business today:

THE BUSINESS GURU
“The biggest challenge for our colour business is
the drop in client visit frequency. Therefore,
boosting our colour turnover requires getting
existing clients to return sooner, not just finding
new ones. Our SEA data suggests that the time
between visits has exceeded 16 weeks for many
salons, predominantly due to changes in
customer behaviour and the popularity of
balayage (it’s baffling why manufacturers
promote this service, as it harms them too).
Creating a toolkit of quick-fix appointments –
such as T-sections, root smudges, baby-lights,
money-pieces, colour vibrancy-rejuvenating
glosses – is a call to action. These need proper
diagnosis, advice and recommendations from the
technician. Clients are receptive to prescribed
services, so this is our focus.”
Giuseppe Stelitano
Creative Director,
Trevor Sorbie & Global
Artistic Director,
Keune Haircosmetics
THE BRAND AMBASSADOR
“For me, a strong brand partnership has never
been about products alone. What really makes
the difference is the relationship behind them. In
the time we’ve worked with Keune, we’ve always
felt supported in our ambitions – whether that’s
education, creative projects, or helping our team
grow. What stood out from the beginning was
that Keune is still a family-owned company, and
you can genuinely feel that in the way they work.
When we first visited Amsterdam and met Mr.
Keune, it reminded us so much of Trevor – the
same passion, humility, and genuine care for
people. The strongest partnerships are built on
trust, respect, and shared values. That’s exactly
what we’ve found with Keune.”
THE COLOUR DIRECTOR
“Being an expert in colour isn’t a certificate or recreating a look from
social media – it’s years of experience, knowledge and critical
thinking. I don’t believe balayage is a good business model; seeing
your client once a year simply isn’t a viable strategy. Beautiful colour
needs to be maintained with regular visits and treatments.
Commercial, wearable hair is where the real skill comes in, and
clients want continuity. The consultation is the cornerstone of any
successful service – it builds trust, manages expectations and
delivers results. Recruiting and training enthusiastic young people is
central to my business strategy, grounded in colour theory, practical
experience and the right mindset.”
THE ALL-ROUNDER
“Colour and business go hand-inhand.
To cultivate a profitable salon,
you need a solid client base – and
clients tend to be more willing to
spend on a great colourist, largely
because colour is bespoke. It
requires personalisation and
expertise that boosts confidence and
loyalty, allowing a salon to command
some of its highest treatment menu
charges. Education plays a massive
role in making colour profitable
while simultaneously developing
your team. At Marc Antoni, our
brand partnership with JOICO has
been transformative – commercially,
the quality of the product and the
standard of results speak for
themselves. When it comes to
educating our team on colour,
JOICO is second to none.”

Soft Light & Shadow
“I love this image because it captures strength and softness
in the same moment. The blonde feels almost weightless,
yet the shape is architectural and controlled, which makes
the image powerful beyond just hair. As a hair colourist, I’m
drawn to creating colour that feels lived-in, minimalistic and
emotionally connected. This image reflects my approach to
blonde work. It shows my love for creating colour that becomes
part of the story. The inspiration came from exploring
the space between softness and structure, where raw texture
meets refined form. I wanted the hair to move, be fluid, yet
sculptural and unforced. The blonde itself was inspired by
soft light and shadow, with warmth diffused through the hair,
creating an intimate feeling.” Domenico Sansone
Authentic Aura
“This beautiful interpretation of Extreme Blonde is from
Denman Professional’s Aura Collection. It is an expression of
unique style that defines a mood, a moment or a personality.
It subtly communicates individual qualities that speak volumes.
As a heritage brand Denman has grown alongside the
creative professionals it serves to match quality tools to every
diverse need and the Aura Collection reflects that journey
perfectly.” Josh Woodman
Clean & Vibrant
“This image is part of our Art Team Mira Collection, combining
precision cutting, clean structure, and thoughtfully placed
colour to enhance the shape rather than compete with it.
I love creating bold colour looks, and this pairing of a clean
blonde with vibrant neon panels shows blondes can be both
commercial and edgy.” Suzie McGill

Textured Structure
“I love this image for its simplicity, although it was one of the
most challenging looks to create in my winning collection,
‘The Bamboo Cutter’s Tale’. It was inspired by the texture and
structure of bamboo and the story’s themes of concealment
and discovery. I loved the model’s personality, and as a blonde
specialist, enjoyed giving a global bleach a grungier edge with
root smudging and luminous golden shine bands.”
David Cassidy
Wearable Art
“I feel this image because it captures the power and beauty of
blonde hair unexpectedly. The shape suddenly becomes almost
architectural, yet it still feels soft and luxurious. It challenges
the traditional perception of blonde hair and turns it into a
statement piece. As a hair colourist, I am passionate about creating
blonde hair that has depth, dimension, and impact while
remaining clean. This image showcases the precision required
to achieve a flawless blonde while allowing the colour to become
part of the overall artistic vision. It reflects my belief that
hair colour should enhance creativity, not simply follow trends.
The inspiration came from the idea of transforming blonde hair
into wearable art.” Michelle Summers Davies
Buttery Sunlight
“As a blonde specialist, I’m constantly inspired by the way
natural sunlight creates softness, brightness, and dimension
in the hair. This Butter Blonde was designed to capture that
feeling - luminous, effortless, and beautifully lived-in. I love
creating blondes that feel expensive without looking overdone,
and this look reflects my philosophy that great colour should
enhance the individual, remain healthy and wearable, and
grow out as beautifully as it looks on day one.”
Krysten Ashley Garrod
Strength & Confidence
“This image sums up what I love about hairdressing. The clean
blonde and sharp cut show the technical side of my work,
while still feeling creative and modern. I wanted to show how
far blonde hair can be pushed with the right skills and attention
to detail. The look has strength and confidence, but still
feels soft, feminine and beautiful.” Emma Simmons

How a home bleach disaster set Jack Spencer on the
path to becoming a JOICO Next Gen Creative Art Team member
and one of the industry’s compelling upcoming voices.
MASTERYGary
Kelly
A member of the JOICO Next
Gen Creative Art Team, Jack
Spencer’s commitment to
knowledge & education
means his clients can
appreciate the value of
a premium, scientifically
backed salon service.
Jack Spencer’s route into hairdressing was anything but conventional. After a home
bleach attempt left him with bright orange hair, he decided to master the craft
himself - walking into his local salon with a hat hiding the mishap, securing an
interview, and never once looking back. Now director of house76 Hairdressing in
Uxbridge and a 17-year industry veteran, Jack initially had his sights firmly set on a
career in carpentry. That all changed when he joined the JOICO Next Gen Creative
Art Team - an opportunity he describes as life-changing, one that not only refined
his technical abilities but fundamentally transformed his confidence as a
professional. Representing an independent salon, he has since embraced editorial
hair artistry and national industry awards with equal commitment and enthusiasm.
His story is compelling proof that passion, resilience and the right mentorship can
turn a rocky start into a genuinely thriving creative career.
E18
“Understanding the chemistry of hair care is just as
important as mastering cutting techniques.”
The Authentic Approach
Over the years, Jack has come to believe that authenticity is
everything. He once thought a successful stylist needed to
adopt different personalities for different clients. Now he
takes the opposite view - be yourself, and let the right clients
find you naturally. When faced with negativity in the chair, his
instinct is always to turn the appointment around and leave
the client in a better place. And when clients underestimate
him based on his appearance, he has a reliable solution: deep
product knowledge. Explaining the science behind the service
instantly establishes both authority and trust, while quietly
dismantling the widespread myth that hairdressing lacks
intellectual depth.
The Science Behind the Service
That knowledge-first approach is central to how Jack works
with JOICO in the salon. Technologies like the Quadramine
Complex and SmartRelease Technology are not just talking
points - they are tools for elevating the client experience and
demonstrating genuine expertise. “I believe that understanding
the chemistry of hair care is just as important as
mastering cutting techniques,” he says. “My commitment to
knowledge and education ensures my clients can appreciate
the value of a premium, scientifically backed salon service,
elevating their visit from a basic appointment to an
informative, premium beauty experience.”
individual client.” Rather than discouraging him, the experience
deepened his conviction that comprehensive knowledge is
the best defence against difficult situations - ensuring there
is nothing a client can raise that he cannot answer with full
confidence.
Advice for the Next Generation
For stylists looking to progress, Jack’s message is clear: keep
learning, and say yes to the opportunities that frighten you.
“Surrounding yourself with professionals who challenge you
is one of the best moves you can make.
Pushing past the initial fear of
high-stakes environments is
where true creative and
personal development happens.
By combining technical
knowledge with a brave
mindset, any stylist can
achieve their goals within this
vibrant industry.”
Learning from the Hard Moments
Difficult moments on the salon floor have shaped him too. A
negative review from a client he had worked hard to please
was, in hindsight, a significant turning point. “This pivotal

Central to the charity’s success has
been its partnership with Remi
Cachet. Ashley had long used the
brand in her own salon, trusting
their products above all others for
their quality and longevity, particularly
the Elegance range. When she
approached Victoria about supporting
the charity, the response was
immediate and wholehearted. “I
chose to partner with Remi Cachet
because I had used their hair myself
on adult clients and loved both the
longevity and the quality of the hair
extensions,” Ashley explains. “Over
time, this relationship has become
vital to our operations; raw hair is
incredibly expensive - a recent donation
of approximately £60,000
worth of aftercare products ensures
the charity’s young recipients can
keep their wigs looking flawless.
HOW SALONS CAN HELP
Looking ahead, Ashley is focused
on expanding the charity’s reach
and the ways in which the wider
industry can support it. For salons
wanting to get involved, options
include collecting hair donations
(seven inches minimum for haircuts,
twelve-plus for extensions), raising
awareness among clients, cash
donations and volunteering at one
of the charity’s sponsored haircutting
days at its Manchester
premises, events which are open to
the public and dedicated entirely to
changing young lives.
RECYCLING WITH PURPOSE
At the heart of the collaboration is
Remi Cachet’s Hair Recycling Scheme.
Salons and individuals donate extensions
that still have life in them;
these are cleaned, prepared and
passed to a team of skilled wig
makers who craft bespoke wigs,
hats and headbands for children on
the waiting list. Crucially, Remi
Cachet accepts any brand of hair,
not just their own, making the
scheme as broad and inclusive as
possible. Extensions that cannot
be repurposed are channelled
through Matter of Trust, an
organisation that uses human hair

The Perfect
Choice
for Retail
Fresh retail opportunities that clients
will love will make an easy sell for Summer.
Your clients trust you to transform their look and help keep
their hair in optimal health. It’s trust that translates into
loyalty (and profit), so why not deepen that relationship by
championing the products you love and use with your clients.
Lean into the products that you know will offer the top three
reasons to buy for clients – utility (ideal for their hair type),
opportunity (need it anyway), gifting (perfect for relative or
friend). Award winning hairdresser and Denman Creative
Sharon Malcolm has great success with retail and says “The
tools and the products we sell in the salon are an integral part
of the service we offer to clients. It’s what we use on our own
hair after all and it’s part of the home styling and aftercare
advice we offer. We ONLY promote and sell the brands we
believe in and our clients trust that.” Sharon has great success
with Denman’s Original Styler brushes plus the
Thermoceramic radials and the much-loved paddle brushes.

SHARON’S TOP TIPS FOR GREAT SALON RETAIL
• Only sell what you believe in.

• Make sure everyone in the salon is knowledgeable and can show how

Your
New Colour
Story
Lean into low commitment colour transformations with Remi
Cachet luxury human hair extensions.
The colour conversation just got a whole new vocabulary because
luxury human hair extensions just stepped in! What if
your colour shy client is thirsting for change or your colour damaged
client needs a break OR your extensions client is feeling
fatigued with her style? Well, that’s where Remi Cachet’s delivers.
The UK’s number one luxury human hair extensions brand
has over 60 rich blend’able shades to move clients through their
colour journey. From their ‘Buy & Blend’ strategy to help extensionists
find their optimum shade bundle to their NEW ‘Babylights’
range with five preblended methods bringing the most
natural looking results. While ‘Buy & Blend’ inspires extensionists
to add dimension and lift styles, ‘Babylights’ does away with
manual blending and encourages a fresh approach to colour
mixing. Reimagining your extensions services through the lens
of colour opens up your consultations, converting colour curious
or colour committed clients to extensions and retaining extensions
clients by updating their seasonal style. Luxury human
hair extensions are now part of the colour toolbox and a fantastic,
low commitment and playful approach to colour transformations.
Now Remi Cachet isn’t just the solution for length,
volume and texture, it’s your colour partner too.
SUMMER TRENDS FROM ZOË
IRWIN, REMI CACHET EXPERT
“Copper evolves for S/S 2026, it’s
multi-tonal and layered. Peach
tones are softening reds into
something more wearable.
Dimensional copper extensions
create this trend perfectly, they
can be dialled up for impact
mixing richer, deeper, more
burnished or softened into something
lighter and more luminous.
For blondes, the contrast is gentle,
creating a blonde that feels
more relaxed, more wearable, and
lower maintenance. Remi Cachet
injection tapes play a key role in
this trend, making it instantly
wearable and yet beautifully
non-committal for the client that
loves to switch looks. For brunettes
in S/S 2026 depth is no longer
heavy or opaque, instead, it’s
softened and illuminated from
within. The diffused brunette
introduces light not as contrast,
but as a veil which is melted,
seamlessly woven through the hair.
This is brunette in soft focus.”
