Adelphi’s response helps Jinger Drinks scale

production as demand soars

Manchester-based holistic health

drinks manufacturer Jinger Drinks

has increased production and improved

efficiency with the help of Adelphi’s

Response Benchtop Filler, enabling the fastgrowing

company to keep pace with rising

demand while reducing waste and freeing

up staff for other areas of the business.

Since installing the Response in September

2025, Jinger Drinks has streamlined what

was previously a labour-intensive

process, with the compact filler

able to accurately fill containers

from 4ml to 1l at a speed of

up to 40 containers per minute.

Previously, three employees

were needed to fill, cap, tighten

and label the bottles by hand, with these

staff members now redeployed elsewhere in the

business.

Founded in Manchester in 2022, family-run

business Jinger Drinks was born when its CEO,

Alya, began researching natural ways to help

with joint pain and arthritis. After developing a

range of pressed organic ginger wellness recipes,

Alya began selling the drinks at local markets,

where demand grew quickly, with products

regularly selling out. With the company doubling

in size each year, the success of the wellness

tonics soon led Alya’s son, Nial, to join the

business as director, followed by his brothers,

helping transform what began in

a family kitchen into a rapidly

growing nationwide wellness

brand.

Dedicated to promoting holistic

health through natural and

organic ingredients, Jinger

Drinks produces a range of

wellness tonics designed to

support immune health, joint pain,

arthritis and inflammation, alongside

acid reflux, indigestion and

heartburn. Committed to organic

excellence,

Jinger Drinks

takes pride in

sourcing only

the finest organic

ingredients.

As demand increased, Jinger

Drinks needed a faster, more

efficient filling solution to

support production growth

without compromising

on quality or increasing

waste. Adelphi’s Response

Benchtop Filler has enabled

the company to significantly

improve productivity, while

also allowing staff previously

dedicated to hand filling, capping and tightening

bottles to support other areas of the business.

“We are delighted that with Adelphi’s Response’s

help, we have been able to increase our

productivity to meet soaring

demand. The Response saves

us both time and money and

has had a massive positive

impact on the business. It is

reliable, we only need one

person to operate it, and it

improves consistency since

it fills the same amount each

time, so there is no waste.

We’re already thinking

about what we can buy from

Adelphi next to help support

our continued growth,” said

Nial.

United Food Brands launches Kynd Dough to

redefine convenience bakery in UK retail

new UK bakery brand, Kynd Dough, is set to

A launch into retail this June, targeting demand

for high-performing, convenience-led bakery.

Created by United Food Brands, Kynd Dough has

been developed to challenge expectations in everyday

packaged bakery by combining proper product

quality with formats designed for modern retail.

The brand is built on a simple belief: bakery should

taste good, perform consistently and fit seamlessly

into how people shop today.

Positioned as a modern challenger, Kynd Dough

combines craft-led baking with advanced packaging

and process design to help products maintain quality

and freshness over an extended shelf window, without

compromising on taste, texture or eating experience.

The initial range, rolling out from June, focuses on

core convenience-led lines including White and Brown

Sliced Loaves, Classic and Seeded Burger Buns, Brioche

Buns, Hot Dog Rolls and XL formats. A second wave

will follow in October, introducing rye options.

The phased rollout is designed to

establish high-performing core lines

before expanding into more premium

and speciality segments. The range has

been developed to support strong retailer

margins, improve on-shelf availability,

reduce waste and drive a more consistent

rate of sale within convenience and

impulse-led environments.

Kynd Dough is brought to market by

United Food Brands, the team behind

growing bakery and snacking brands

including Waffle Amour and Hallo

Deutsche Bäckerei. Supported by scalable

manufacturing and established supply

chain infrastructure, UFB has a strong

track record of launching and scaling

brands that deliver both consumer

appeal and commercial performance.

Initial retail listings are secured from launch,

with further grocery and convenience distribution

currently under discussion.

Richard Reeves, CEO, United Food Brands, said,

“Kynd Dough is about resetting expectations in

packaged bakery. We’ve focused on delivering products

that combine eating quality with real functional

benefit, supporting better availability, reducing waste

and delivering stronger, more consistent performance

on shelf, while also improving retailer margins.”

Neil Pittman, Commercial Director, added, “This is a

range built for how the category works today. Clear

core lines, strong formats and products designed to

hold their quality over time all contribute to better

availability, reduced waste and stronger margins for

convenience-led retail.”

TJ Sims, Brand Manager, said, “We set out to make

bakery that people genuinely want to eat, but that

also works harder on shelf. Kynd Dough is simple in

its thinking: good products, made properly, designed

to perform.”

Kynd Dough is now available to retailers nationwide,

with a primary focus on the convenience channel.

Halal certification bu

HALAL CERTIFICATION & INTEGRITY AWARD

In this issue of Food and Drink Matters

we are delighted to award the Halal Food

Authority with the Halal Certification &

Integrity Award

Religious

compliance is

a key factor for

Muslim consumers.

The consumption of

halal products is a

religious obligation

for Muslims, and halal

certification ensures

that these products

conform to the dietary

laws outlined in the

Quran and Hadith.

Halal certification is

a thorough procedure

that verifies whether a product, facility, or

service complies with Islamic dietary laws and

practices. This certification is usually issued

by a recognised halal certification body after

rigorous assessments.

The primary aim of halal certification is to

provide Muslim consumers with confidence

and assurance that the products they choose

meet the strict requirements of halal guidelines,

ensuring trust in the authenticity and purity of

the products they use.

Since 1994, the Halal Food Authority (HFA)

has been a leading provider of comprehensive

halal certification and auditing services for both

food and non-food producers. Committed to

maintaining the highest halal standards, the

company conducts rigorous monitoring of

processes, thorough ingredient evaluations and

precise halal labelling.

The company’s mission

is to ensure the highest

standards of halal

compliance worldwide.

It strives to provide

consumers with

confidence in authentic

halal products and

support producers

in maintaining their

integrity. By adhering

to strict policy and

practices HFA aims to

not only provide top

rate certification, but

raise the benchmark

for halal certification globally.

Accredited by prominent international

halal organisations, HFA has worked with

thousands of global clients, certifying over

seventy thousand products and issuing tens of

thousands of certificates in the process. Over

time HFA has become a lead contributor to

the global growth of halal markets, making

halal products accessible, trusted, and respected

everywhere.

HFA’s services include verifying compliance,

conducting product audits, reviewing

documentation and providing continuous

support to ensure products meet Islamic dietary

regulations and industry standards.

Its team of skilled technical and sharia auditors,

conduct audits at production sites to ensure

adherence to Islamic dietary regulations as

set out in the company’s Halal Standards

benchmarks. Expert food technologists at HFA

then carefully review product ingredients to

guarantee they comply with halal consumption

standards.

Once HFA has confirmed the authenticity and

purity of products, it issues Halal certification.

These certificates cover both import and export

products, and serve as a proof that items being

sent internationally meet the halal requirements

set out according to the company’s standards.

The complexity of modern supply chains

means the halal market faces uniquely complex

challenges such as ingredient traceability, crosscontamination

risks and diverse regulatory

environments. To remedy this, HFA employs

a robust, collaborative auditing system that

ensures all stakeholders receive transparency as

well as value.

“Ensuring halal compliance requires vigilance

at every step, from sourcing raw materials to

final production and distribution,” says CEO

of Halal Food Authority, Dr Amir Masoom.

“At HFA, our auditors conduct full traceability

checks, verifying every ingredient, process,

and supplier involved. Any change in recipe or

supplier must be formally notified to HFA and

approved by our Food Technology Team before

implementation.”

The company also ensures that only HFA

approved suppliers, those certified by authentic

and recognised halal certification bodies, are

used throughout the supply chain. Furthermore,

it offers group certifications for businesses with

multiple sites, ideal for those within a specific

supply chain, industry cluster or geographical

areas.

On top of that HFA offers a halal manual

that defines the requirements for obtaining

halal certification. These manuals provide vital

information about the certification process and

criteria and are exclusively available for clients

on request.

As well as creating a collaborative atmosphere,

HFA’s rigorous standards ensure transparency

6

FDM is sponsored by RJ Enterprises – see them on page 4

ilt on transparency

in the system, which in turn inspires confidence

and trust between all stakeholders, an effort

that is essential to HFA’s success.

“HFA prioritises transparency by ensuring

that our certification criteria, audit processes,

and governance framework are accessible

to all stakeholders,” says Dr Masoom. “We

are the only halal

certification body that

has developed its own

comprehensive audit

manual, followed

consistently by both

auditors and auditees

throughout the entire

certification cycle.”

In addition to a

transparent audit

process, all of HFA’s key policies, including

those on complaints, impartiality, and

governance, are publicly available on its website

to reinforce accountability and openness.

“We operate an open-door policy for queries,

concerns, and technical clarifications, ensuring

that businesses and consumers can engage with

us directly whenever needed.” Dr Masoom

says, “Our digital verification tools allow

instant confirmation of certification status,

strengthening confidence in the products that

carry our mark.”

The company’s ongoing programme of

community engagement, training and

educational initiatives also helps build

understanding, trust and long-term confidence

in the integrity of HFA certification outside

of the certification process. This extended

philosophy of collaboration and transparency,

positions HFA as a

leader in the sector

and continues to

pay dividends for

both consumers and

suppliers.

For British brands

looking to grow

their global halal

market share, HFA’s

internationally recognised certification is

particularly powerful. The company works

closely with international bodies to harmonise

standards and ensure mutual recognition of

certification, with its robust and transparent

processes giving overseas partners the assurance

they need, while its internal support services

help businesses navigate export requirements

and market-specific regulations.

Building from a foundation of trust and

authenticity, HFA has also embraced the latest

technologies to aid in its certification effort. It

has continuously strengthened its protocols and

enhanced communication with stakeholders

to expand its auditing processes, investing in

staff training and adopting digital solutions

to provide real-time verification and greater

visibility for consumers.

We use digital audit platforms, strong

traceability systems and smart data analytics

to stay ahead of compliance issues,” says

Dr Masoom. “These

tools make inspections

smoother, cut down

on mistakes, and give

stakeholders realtime

access to certification

information – which

really helps strengthen

accountability across the

supply chain.”

This integrity underpins

everything HFA does. Halal certification

goes far beyond a logo, it is a comprehensive

system of assessment, ongoing inspection and

verification, and HFA’s certification involves

rigorous audits, unannounced inspections and

thorough documentation at every stage.

Additionally, the company also maintains strict

oversight of supply chains and requires full

traceability. Any misuse or non-compliance is

dealt with promptly and transparently, ensuring

that HFA’s certification remains a mark of trust

and authenticity.

As the scope of halal certification has grown

beyond traditional meat and food products, to

include pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, and even

packaging materials; HFA has recently been

focused on expanding its certification to meet

the increased demand for halal-certified nonfood

items.

As well as a growing

interest in non-food

items, demand has risen

for ethical, sustainable

and organic halal

products, reflecting

broader consumer

values. For HFA these

consumer trends mean

a renewed dedication

to provide halal

certification synonymous with trust, quality, and

ethical standards worldwide.

Over the next decade, HFA aims to drive

harmonisation of halal standards globally, foster

greater transparency and leverage technology

to enhance assurance. HFA is committed to

leading by example, setting standards, sharing

knowledge, and collaborating with international

partners to shape the future of halal integrity.

We asked Dr Masoom what receiving this

award means for HFA, “It’s a tremendous

honour for the Halal Food Authority and our

dedicated team. It validates our unwavering

commitment to upholding the highest standards

of halal integrity, transparency, and consumer

trust.

“This recognition is a testament to the collective

efforts of everyone at HFA who works tirelessly

to ensure that our certification is credible,

robust, and meaningful. It inspires us to

continue setting benchmarks for excellence in

halal assurance, both in the UK and globally. “

Consumer expectations have evolved

significantly since 1994. Today’s consumers are

more informed and discerning, they expect not

just halal compliance, but also transparency,

traceability and ethical standards throughout

the supply chain.

Halal integrity is not just a matter of

compliance, it is a promise of trust, quality,

and respect for faith and values. By upholding

integrity at every stage, the Halal Food

Authority protects consumers, supports

businesses and contributes to a more ethical and

transparent food industry for everyone.

BAR & CELLAR EQUIPMENT MATTERS

Close support for new

40HL Brewhouse

Fourpure has completed a growth

phase seeing improvements to

their now state-of-the-art brewing,

packaging and distribution facilities.

The addition will allow them to

increase production capability by

400% to 14 million pints per year.

ourpure Limited was founded

Fin 2013 by Dan and Tom Lowe,

two brothers with a passion for beer

and travel. The brewery remains a

family run business and the team

strongly believe in working with

great ingredients to brew their beer.

In fact, the four key ingredients used

to make beer – grain, yeast, hops,

and water – are what inspired the

name ‘Fourpure’.

Fourpure has recently expanded the

brewery, including installation of a

40HL brewhouse at a project cost of

around £2.5m, enabling it to keep

up with the growing demand and

rapid development that the business

is experiencing.

By expanding into a fifth warehouse,

covering a total of 20,000ft 2 ,

To support this crucial expansion,

Close Brothers Brewery Rentals

was able to provide a Hire Purchase

facility to fund the new Brewhouse.

In-depth understanding of the

industry and the equipment required

enabled Fourpure and Close Brothers

to arrange this complex deal in

a time frame to suit the brewery.

The equipment, which includes

a GEA new 40HL Brewhouse,

complete with fermentation vessels,

carbonator, centrifuge, CIP and other

associated equipment, was installed

and commissioned in the last few

months of 2017.

The future is looking very bright

for Fourpure, and Close Brothers

Brewery Rentals looks forward to

continuing to support this innovative

and growing business.

Where great spirits begin:

Inside the Craft Distilling Business

Every great spirit starts with an idea.

Sometimes it’s inspired by a favourite

botanical, sometimes by a forgotten family

recipe, and sometimes simply by the thought,

“Why don’t we make our own?” Turning that

spark into a successful distillery, however, is

another matter entirely.

The Craft Distilling Business

has carved out a distinctive

niche within the industry.

Rather than producing its

own range of spirits, the

company helps others bring

their distilling ambitions to

life, designing and installing

bespoke micro-distilleries

while supporting clients

through every stage of

the journey, from the first

sketches to the first pour.

Founded in 2017 by Matt

Servini and Vanessa Rapier,

the business draws on

decades of combined experience across product

development, hospitality, marketing and

commercial strategy. That breadth of expertise

has proved invaluable for businesses looking to

create something distinctive in an increasingly

competitive drinks market.

The company has commissioned more than 300

micro-distilleries across Europe and Asia, and

is an expert in designing and installing bespoke

stills tailored to bars, restaurants, hotels and

retail spaces that want to produce their own

spirits on-site.

The appeal of in-house

distilling has grown steadily

over recent years. Hotels,

restaurants, bars and visitor

attractions are increasingly

looking beyond simply

stocking premium spirits

and instead creating their

own signature expressions.

Whether it’s a bespoke gin

infused with locally foraged

botanicals, a small-batch

rum or even a distinctive

whisky project, producing

spirits on-site offers both

a memorable customer

experience and a powerful

way to tell a brand’s story.

Of course, distillation is about far more than

gleaming copper stills and carefully chosen

botanicals. Licensing, compliance, recipe

development, operational training and health

and safety all play an equally important role.

DISTILLING MATTERS

Recognising this, The Craft Distilling Business

provides a complete consultancy service

alongside its custom-built equipment, helping

clients navigate the practical realities that sit

behind the romance of craft spirits.

Perhaps that’s what makes the company

particularly interesting. It understands that

people aren’t simply buying a still; they’re

investing in an experience, a destination and,

ultimately, a brand. A beautifully crafted spirit

has the power to become a talking point long

before the cork is removed, especially when

visitors can watch it being created just a few

metres away.

Every memorable bottle has to begin

somewhere, and sometimes the most important

ingredient isn’t juniper or grain, but the

expertise that transforms an ambitious idea into

a spirit worth raising a glass to.

VendNation prepares to showcase exciting ways

to unlock new revenue streams

With changing

attitudes towards the

consumption of alcohol and

an ever-growing demand to

stand out online, venues are

under increasing pressure to

not just be places that serve

food and drink.

“Operators are telling us the

same thing: customers are

looking for the full package,”

explains James Ashton,

director at VendNation.

“That of course means great

food & drinks, but it also

means the right environment;

exciting entertainment and

engaging activities.”

Started in 2019 by brothers James and Jonathon,

VendNation is of the UK’s leading suppliers of

photobooths and entertainment solutions across

the hospitality & leisure sectors.

“Going out now means going out for an

experience that you’re going to talk about for

days afterwards,” says Jonathon. “That’s the

challenge facing venues. And it’s a difficult

challenge to meet, especially for operators that

feel they don’t have the means to invest in new

additions to their space.”

James and Jonathon decided

the best way to support

venues was to remove the

barrier of upfront investment.

With a team of experienced

joiners and technicians,

VendNation supplies

machines at zero cost to the

venue.

“Success comes from

partnership,” continues

Jonathon. “Which is why we

operate a revenue share with

the venues we work with.

We’re just as committed to

making the machine a success

as the venue is, which is why

we look after all maintenance

and provide a full customisation service without

charging the operator a penny.”

Today, over 400 venues across the UK and

Europe have a VendNation photobooth, offering

consumers an opportunity to capture and own a

tangible memory of a great night out.

VendNation also supply a variety of arcade

machines; as well as their state-of-the-art

interactive darts station, with 5-point camera

tracking system and a selection of accessible

games. Like their photo booths, these are

offered to venues

fully-serviced on a

revenue share basis,

with no installation

costs.

“Sure, our

machines generate

revenue for venues,

but it’s about more

than that,” says

James. “Their very

presence creates

social magnets

within a space,

drawing people in, encouraging them to stay

for longer and spend more. Most importantly, it

creates a stronger bond between customer and

venue, leading to increased brand loyalty and

more return visits.”

VendNation are excited to be exhibiting at this

year’s National Restaurant Pub & Bar Show

where they will be showcasing a selection of their

zero-cost revenue share machines, including their

photobooths and Interactive Darts. You’ll find

VendNation at Stand N411.

with decades of

this mayo is a secret

and QSR.

The range includes:

“We like to think that

change is an opportunity”

Ahead of lunch! 2026, Chris Castle explains why Conglom

International is investing in infrastructure, insight and innovation to

help customers navigate a changing foodservice packaging sector

alk around any

foodservice

Wexhibition today and

one thing quickly becomes

clear, change is everywhere.

New legislation, evolving

customer expectations and

continued product innovation

are influencing the way

distributors, wholesalers

and buying groups do

business, while sustainability,

compliance and supply

chain resilience have become

everyday considerations rather than future

ambitions.

It’s one of the reasons lunch! continues to be

such an important event for the food to go

sector. Bringing together suppliers, distributors

and foodservice professionals from across the

industry, it provides an opportunity to discover

new products, exchange ideas and understand

the trends shaping the future of foodservice

packaging.

The Conglom International team is looking

forward to returning to ExCeL London on 16

and 17 September, where visitors will find us on

Stand L639, our largest presence at the exhibition

to date. Whether you’re looking to broaden an

existing range, explore sustainable alternatives or

simply discuss what’s happening across the sector,

we hope you’ll find plenty to interest you.

Showcasing products is, of course, part of the

reason we’re there, with visitors able to explore

our extensive foodservice packaging portfolio

across the Titan, Café Express, PFAS Free iECO

and Saniguard brands. From hot and cold

drink solutions, food containers and takeaway

packaging through to food preparation products

and PPE, our ranges continue to evolve alongside

the changing needs of cafés, QSRs, contract

caterers, hospitality businesses and the wider food

to go market.

lunch! also comes at an exciting time for Conglom

International. Behind the

scenes we’ve been making one

of the biggest investments in

the company’s history, one that

reflects our belief that standing

still simply isn’t an option in

today’s marketplace. Later this

year we’ll relocate to our new

purpose-built UK headquarters

and 110,000ft 2 distribution

centre, increasing warehouse

capacity, strengthening

logistics and creating the

flexibility needed to support

our continued growth across the UK and Europe.

“We like to think that change is an opportunity.

It’s a chance to improve our knowledge, the

way we work and the service we provide, so

we’re continually finding better ways to help our

customers succeed,” said Chris Castle, Managing

Director.

That philosophy extends

beyond our new warehouse.

As the foodservice packaging

sector becomes increasingly

influenced by legislation and

environmental responsibility,

we’ve recognised that our

customers value informed

insight alongside dependable

products. That’s what inspired

the launch of Packaging

Perspectives, our new quarterly

editorial series, created to

explore the legislation, market

developments and innovations

shaping the future of the

foodservice packaging sector.

Rather than simply reporting what’s happening,

Packaging Perspectives offers informed

commentary and practical insight into the

issues influencing our industry, helping readers

understand not only what’s changing, but why it

matters to their businesses. Each issue takes an in

depth look at a specific topic, providing

context that busy distributors,

wholesalers and foodservice

suppliers can put to practical use.

“Foodservice packaging legislation

is changing at an incredible pace,

and it’s easy to feel overwhelmed by

new terms like pEPR and RAM. Our

customers shouldn’t have to become

compliance experts, that’s our job.

Packaging Perspectives is one of

the ways we’re helping make complex legislation

easier to understand,” said Kin Mok, Compliance

Manager (pictured above).

For us, these aren’t separate initiatives. They

all reflect the same way of thinking, investing

in better facilities, developing stronger product

ranges and sharing practical

knowledge, so our customers

can move forward with

confidence in a market that

continues to evolve.

That’s why we’re looking

forward to lunch! It gives us

the chance to step away from

emails and Teams calls, spend

time with customers and talk

about what’s really happening

across the foodservice

packaging sector. Whether the

discussion is about legislation,

new product opportunities,

sustainable materials or simply

the day to day challenges

of doing business, those

conversations are invaluable in

helping us understand what matters most to the

people we work with.

If you’re planning to visit lunch! this September,

we’d be delighted to welcome you to Stand L639.

Come and meet Chris Castle, Managing Director,

Fern Timmins, Head of Sales & Marketing,

and the rest of the Conglom

International team. Whether you’d

like to explore our latest foodservice

packaging ranges, hear more about

our move to our new warehouse,

discover Packaging Perspectives or

simply catch up over a coffee, we

look forward to seeing you.

LONDON PACKAGING WEEK PREVIEW

London Packaging Week 2026 puts discovery at

the heart of packaging’s future

London Packaging Week 2026 returns

with a sharpened focus on what now

defines the industry: discovery. This year’s

edition introduces a series of new features and

experiences designed to help brands, designers

and retailers navigate an industry being

reshaped by regulation, innovation and shifting

consumer expectations.

The event, which takes place at ExCeL

London on 16 & 17 September, continues

to draw leading global brands and retailers,

reinforcing its position as a key meeting point

for the industry’s decision-makers. Returning

names include No7, William Grant & Sons, Jo

Malone London, Marks & Spencer, Fortnum

& Mason, Burberry, Hotel Chocolat, LUSH,

Elemis, Superdrug, John Lewis, Swarovski,

Harrods and Starbucks – reflecting the breadth

of sectors now converging around packaging as

a strategic priority.

“At the centre of the 2026 edition is a single

idea: discovery,” said Josh Brooks, Divisional

Director – Packaging Portfolio at Easyfairs.

In a landscape defined by complexity, speed,

and constraint, the ability to uncover better

solutions faster has become a defining

competitive advantage.

“Packaging is no longer a technical

consideration sitting in the background of

brand and operations decisions. It now sits

firmly within boardroom strategy, influencing

growth, resilience, sustainability and consumer

relevance. Discovery is what enables better

decisions, and that’s what this event is built

around.”

To support that focus, the 2026 show floor

introduces a series of new and expanded

features. This includes the Design Hub,

powered by Pentawards, which brings together

the global packaging design community

through curated talks, networking, and creative

exchanges between brands and designers. The

Innovation Gallery will spotlight standout

developments from across exhibitors, with

guided tours highlighting breakthrough

materials and technologies.

Alongside this, the Start-Up Zone showcases

emerging companies and disruptive thinking. At

the same time, the Discovery Theatre provides

a platform for start-ups, SMEs and agencies to

present ideas shaping the next generation of

packaging. A dedicated Podcast Studio will host

live conversations with designers and industry

leaders, and the Pentawards Gallery returns

with 50 award-winning designs from across the

world.

London Packaging Week 2026 takes place

on 16 & 17 September at ExCeL London.

Registration is now open, with complimentary

tickets providing access to the exhibition,

conference programme, Innovation Gallery,

Design Hub and thousands of packaging

solutions all in one place, designed to help the

industry discover what comes next.

Beatson Clark introduces lighter

food jars with a premium finish

n response to a growing trend of brands

consolidating their packaging, while still

Idemanding a premium on-shelf appearance,

UK-based glass manufacturer Beatson Clark has

expanded its general sale range with a newly

optimised selection of lightweighted food jars.

The company’s popular panelled jars have been

redesigned as part of its new Optima light weight

range, using less glass without compromising on

strength, durability or visual appeal.

To give brands even greater flexibility, Beatson

Clark’s design team has also created a deep

twist off (DTO) neck finish version of each

lightweighted jar, providing the premium closure

many brand owners prefer, while ensuring the

designs remain carefully weight optimised. This

dual approach offers food producers a broader

choice of cost-efficient, lighter weight jars that still

deliver a high quality, premium aesthetic.

“We decided to create these jars as we have

witnessed a resurgence in the popularity of the

deep neck finish,” said Charlotte Pike, Beatson

Clark’s Marketing Manager.

PRINT & PACKAGING MATTERS

“Brands increasingly want to

premiumise their products to

appeal to a new demographic,

but they will always have one

eye on cost; for this reason, food

manufacturers are increasingly

choosing containers from our

standard range, rather than

commissioning a bespoke

design.”

Charlotte added, “Because

of the new fees brought in

by the Extended Producer

Responsibility (EPR) scheme,

and with sustainability always

foremost in our minds, we’ve

taken the opportunity to

lightweight these containers.

“We’ve optimised the weight, removing up to 17g

from each jar, while adding to the height of the

overall profile of the container.

“The deep twist off neck closure has always had

a premium feel to it and has often been used for

more luxury products, such as cosmetics and

artisan food brands due to its sleek, modern look.”

Retailers like Marks & Spencer have become well

known for their range of own label food products

in jars with a deep twist off neck finish.

The deep closures are a hallmark of premium

packaging, offering a luxury look that mimics the

heavy, substantial feel that consumers associate

with higher-priced, quality products. Many brands

are now using these jars to

elevate their shelf presence.

The Panelled Jar range features

wide openings that make

products easier for consumers to

access, helping to reduce waste

and improve overall usability.

With label space at a premium

due to growing legal and

regulatory requirements, Beatson

Clark has lightweighted this

popular range while preserving

the full label panel, allowing

brands to keep their existing

artwork without compromise.

For brands seeking an additional premium

touch, the new range can be enhanced with spray

coatings. Frosted finishes, in particular, remain

highly sought after in the premium food industry

for their refined, modern look.

Our frosted effect has been certified by

CIRCPACK as 100% recyclable, making these

lightweight, premium jars an ideal option for

brands looking to enhance shelf appeal without

compromising on sustainability.

Beatson Clark launched its in-house spray

decoration service in 2024 and offers a wide

variety of paint colours and finishes, thanks to the

latest cutting-edge technology and innovation.

Their new dedicated spray plant can decorate glass

containers in a stunning array of colours, textures

and effects, from gloss and matt to vignette and

metallic.

They can colour-match an existing bottle or

Pantone reference or work with brands to create

a unique shade or effect,

producing the exact colour and

pigment to suit requirements.

Not only can Beatson Clark

manufacture and spray its own

bottles and jars, the company

can also spray glass containers

provided by the customer,

subject to suitability.

“It’s important to remember

that premiumisation trends are

not just about the visual appeal

of the jar,” Charlotte explained.

“Brands are also looking for

sustainable packaging, and lightweighting our

containers is one way to achieve this.

“This is an ongoing initiative, and we will

continue to expand our Optima range in the

coming months.”

However, achieving reliable, high-quality

Named the leading Chocolatier

in the UK ’25 & ’26

T

he Allergy & Free From Show 2026 once again

highlighted just how far the free-from sector

has evolved, with exhibitors demonstrating

that allergen-conscious products no longer have

to sacrifice quality, flavour or indulgence. Among

the brands drawing attention throughout the event

was Ben Ellis Pastry Chef & Chocolatier, whose

handcrafted chocolates offered a fresh perspective on

what modern free-from confectionery can achieve.

Established by Ben Ellis and his wife Vicky, the

company’s Managing Director, the business has

built its reputation around the belief that dietary

restrictions should never diminish the enjoyment of

great food. Every product is made without gluten,

egg or artificial additives, while also being soy

allergy friendly and developed with vegan-friendly

and diabetic-conscious consumers in mind. Rather

than focusing on what is missing, the company has

concentrated on creating chocolates that stand on

their own merit through flavour, craftsmanship and

carefully selected natural ingredients.

ALLERGY & FREE FROM SHOW REVIEW

That philosophy resonated strongly with visitors

throughout the show. As consumer expectations

continue to rise, products that simply meet allergen

requirements are no longer enough. Shoppers

are increasingly looking for premium quality

alongside peace of mind, and Ben Ellis Chocolatier

demonstrated that those two goals can successfully go

hand in hand.

The story behind the business also remains one

of its greatest strengths. The company was born

from personal experience after Ben’s wife required

significant dietary changes because of chronic health

conditions. Faced with the challenge of creating safe

treats that still delivered genuine enjoyment, Ben

began experimenting with recipes using fresh fruit

purées, natural juices and carefully sourced chocolate.

What started as a personal solution has since grown

into an award-winning artisan chocolatier with a

distinctive place in the UK’s free-from market.

The company’s commitment to innovation and

quality has also attracted significant industry

recognition. A multi award-winning chocolatier, Ben

Ellis Chocolatier was recently recognised among the

world’s leading chocolatiers with a prestigious Global

Recognition Award.

Selected from more

than 15,000 entries

spanning 91 countries

and all industry

sectors, fewer than 3%

of entrants received

the accolade. Ben Ellis

Chocolatier was the

only chocolatier to be

recognised, with judges

acknowledging the company’s

pioneering health-conscious

recipes and their contribution

to advancing consumer health,

wellbeing and longevity through

artisan confectionery.

Instead of adapting conventional

recipes by replacing ingredients,

Ben Ellis has taken a different

approach, developing chocolates

from the ground up with an emphasis on what he

describes as food integrity. This has resulted in a

collection that is not only suitable for a wide range

of dietary requirements, but also naturally lower in

sugar, fat and carbohydrates than many traditional

alternatives. At a time when consumers are paying

closer attention to ingredient lists and nutritional

content, that combination has become increasingly

appealing.

One of the defining features of the brand throughout

the exhibition was its commitment to creating an

authentic luxury chocolate experience. Free-from

products have often been viewed as functional

purchases rather than desirable ones, but Ben Ellis

Chocolatier challenged that perception through

elegant presentation, handcrafted finishes and flavour

combinations that celebrated

fresh fruit, botanicals and spices.

The emphasis remained firmly on

taste first, with dietary inclusivity

becoming an added benefit rather

than the headline.

This reflected one of the wider

themes running throughout the

Allergy & Free From Show.

Across the exhibition floor, it

was evident that the industry has

moved beyond simply offering

alternatives. Innovation, premium

ingredients and exceptional flavour

have become just as important as

allergen safety, as brands respond

to consumers who expect products

to deliver both wellbeing and

indulgence.

The event itself attracted a broad

audience, bringing together

individuals living with allergies

and intolerances alongside visitors

exploring plant-based lifestyles,

reduced-sugar options and cleaner

ingredient labels. This diversity created the ideal

environment for businesses like Ben Ellis Chocolatier,

whose products appeal not only to those with dietary

requirements but also to consumers seeking highquality

artisan chocolate made with integrity.

As with many premium food brands, experiencing the

products firsthand proved invaluable. Visitors were

able to appreciate the textures, aromas and balanced

flavours that distinguish Ben Ellis Chocolatier from

many mass-produced alternatives. The use of fresh,

natural ingredients created a clean, vibrant flavour

profile that reinforced the company’s commitment to

simplicity, quality and craftsmanship.

The Allergy & Free From Show demonstrated

that the future of free-from is no longer centred

on compromise. Instead, it

showcased a growing number of

businesses redefining expectations

through innovation and premium

quality. Ben Ellis Pastry Chef &

Chocolatier stood out as one of

those brands, proving that artisan

chocolate can successfully combine

luxury, inclusivity and exceptional

flavour without asking consumers

to settle for less.
