A Fertility Smoothie Q&A
with Hethir Rodriguez MH, CMT
What Inspired the Creation of this Book?
One of the keys to boosting your fertility naturally is doing something daily to help nourish your
body, endocrine system and reproductive system. The easiest way to do this is to include fertility
smoothies in your daily diet. We’ve had so many readers asking us for recipes and asking
questions about how to use fertility smoothies and recipes for specific issues that this book came
about as a way to provide a rich resource for women and men on their fertility journey.
Why Use Smoothies to Help Boost Fertility?
There are many reasons to drink smoothies to help boost fertility. Some of them are:
Easy way to get a healthy meal
Great way to include fertility superfoods in your daily diet
They taste good!
What Are Some of the Health Benefits of Fertility Smoothies?
It depends on what you put into your smoothies. Different foods have different benefits and
nutrients. Take a look at our ingredients chapter to see what each food offers. Personally I have
seen a big difference in my mood, my hair is growing faster and healthier, I have a ton of energy
and my immune system is great. Some of the fertility health benefits that may be realized are:
What Is the Best Way To Use This Book?
The best way to use this book is to read through the book first, then jump right in and get going.
Don't be afraid to try recipes that include ingredients you are not familiar with.
After you have the idea of making fresh smoothies and the many benefits, start experimenting.
Those who are beginners to making smoothies tend to like the sweeter ones, so it is fine to start
with the simpler recipes, but make sure to move towards the greener and superfood smoothies
over time as those are the most healing. Included in this book are ingredient lists to give your
brain a jump start, so be sure to use them.
How Are Smoothies a Great Way to Transition to a Healthy
Fertility Diet?
There are three reasons using smoothies as a way to transition to a healthy fertility diet is a
great idea...
1. They are really easy and fast to make, all you need is a blender and ingredients. Regardless
of where you are you can get ingredients for a smoothie.
2. Your cravings and food choices will naturally change to healthier ones over a couple of
weeks.
3. If you made no other change, but just fresh smoothies daily, you will still see results. Of
course shifting to a whole food fertility diet is ideal, but smoothies daily can make a huge
difference.
Can I Continue to Drink Smoothies When I Become Pregnant?
Yes, smoothies are wonderful for pregnancy. You will want to omit any herbs or foods that are
contraindicated during pregnancy. But drinking smoothies can help to provide important nutrients
as well as an easy to digest meal during pregnancy.
What Kind of Equipment Do You Recommend Using for
Smoothies?
To make smoothies you will need a blender. You can find them at a store near you or order one
from the Internet. They range from $40-$400 in price. My favorite one is the Vitamix. I also find
it helpful to have a hand juicer or a electric juicer to make fresh juices to add to the smoothie,
but it is not necessary.
Introduction: A Fertility Smoothie Q&A with Hethir Rodriguez MH, CMT

6
What Do I Do If I Do Not Have Access to Fresh Fruit?
Frozen fruit can be used in place of fresh fruit. But fruits are generally easy to find at any grocery
store.
What Do You Mean By Fresh Pressed Juices?
Fresh pressed juices are juices that are freshly squeezed, by you before they are used for a
smoothie or as a juice. They have not been pasteurized or cooked in any way. Bottled juices are
not fresh pressed juices and do not contain the same health and healing benefits as fresh
pressed juices have. Bottled juices have been pasteurized (cooked) so the sugars are more
concentrated and the antioxidants and enzymes have been destroyed.
How Do You Make Smoothies?
Making smoothies is super easy. You place all of your ingredients into the blender, include a
liquid and blend. It takes less than 5 minutes to make a meal that is nutritious and very portable.
What Does “One Serving” of Superfood in the Smoothie Recipes
Mean?
In most of the smoothie recipes I have included fertility superfoods. The measurement next to
each one will not be a specific amount (like a tablespoon) but based on actual usage (it will say
1,000 mg, or something like that). I have done this because the actual measurement will be
different for every product that you use depending on the brand that you purchase. So when it
says 1,000 mg of maca (or whichever superfood) figure out how much that would be depending
on the usage instructions on the product you are using. This is to make sure you are getting
enough of the superfood to be effective and to also assure that not too much is taken.
How to Make Your Own Smoothie Recipes...
I have provided you with a lot of different fertility smoothie recipes in this book, but you can also
make your own recipes by following this basic recipe:
1 cup fruit
1/2-1 cup liquid
1-2 superfoods
Include a protein food and/or a fiber rich food
Chapter 1
Smoothie Ingredients
Fertility Superfoods

8
Apples
Apples have the second highest level of antioxidants of any other commonly consumed fruit in
the United States (cranberries are #1). They also contain a ton of phytochemicals, including
quercetin.
Apricots
A great source of vitamin A, potassium and beta-carotene, apricots are one of the dietary staples
of the Hunza people (folks from the Himalayas that live long and stay healthy).
Blueberries
This memory protecting food contains antioxidants and anti-inflammatory compounds. Blueberries
are the highest scoring fruit of all time on the ORAC rating — this means they are extremely high
in antioxidants and photochemicals. These wonderful berries were also found to be the best fruit
at inhibiting cancer promoting enzymes.
Cantaloupe
Rich in beta-carotene and potassium. Beta carotene is well known to protect against cell damage.
Cantaloupe makes a great smoothie.
Grapefruit
Studies published in the Journal of Medicinal Food showed the grapefruits may help to improve
insulin resistance. This means they can be helpful for women with PCOS and also with weight
loss. Grapefruits are also packed with enzymes, they can reduce cholesterol and contain
compounds that may inhibit the the development of cancer.
Grapes
Grapes contain protective antioxidants to help protect against DNA-damaging free radicals. They
also contain a compound called resveratrol which has been shown to be one of the best antiaging
substances around. Grapes also contain a powerful antioxidant that helps to protect the
body from environmental stress and pollution. Make sure to buy these organic as imported
grapes were on the list of top 12 foods contaminated with pesticides.
Chapter 1: Smoothie Ingredients - Fertility Superfoods

9
Citrus
Citrus fruits such as oranges, lemons, tangerines, etc., are rich in vitamin C, contain antiinflammatory
compounds, have been shown to reduce bad cholesterol and increase good
cholesterol. Lemons are highest in vitamin C and the most detoxifying out of all the citrus fruits.
Grapefruits are great for weight loss, vitamin C, calcium and phosphorus. Oranges are rich in
vitamin C as well as B complex vitamins, zinc, potassium and phosphorus. Orange juice needs
to be consumed right away for the best benefits. This is one juice that I do not strain the pulp
from.
Papaya
Just the other day I tried papaya juice for the first time in my life. WOW, what a treat. It was
fantastic! Papaya contains papain, an enzyme that helps to break down or digest protein. It also
has anti-inflammatory properties. This can be very beneficial for women who have endometriosis,
scar tissue or blocked fallopian tubes as the enzymes in the papaya may also break down the
protein making up the tissue that these imbalances create.
They are also high in vitamin A and C. Papayas are low on the list of pesticide contamination,
so you can buy these organic or conventional.
Pineapple
Rich in bromelain. Pineapple is also rich in proteolytic enzymes which break down amino acid
bonds in protein. Like papaya, pineapples may be helpful in breaking down scar tissue found in
blocked tubes, endometriosis tissue and scar tissue. Its impact on blood sugar is low and it is
high in manganese and vitamin C. Pineapples made the list of 12 foods LEAST contaminated
with pesticides. Good to know.
Strawberries
Packed with antioxidants, strawberries also contain calcium, potassium, magnesium, phosphorus
and vitamin C. These are best bought organic as they are on the top 12 list for pesticide contamination.
Watermelon
A wonderfully refreshing juice. You can juice the entire fruit, rind and all, as long as it is organic.
Watermelon is abundant in lycopene, beta-carotene, and is a low glycemic food. Wonderful for
weight loss.
Chapter 1: Smoothie Ingredients - Fertility Superfoods

10
Pears
I love juicing with pears. Rich in potassium, lutein and magnesium, pears make a great addition
to a green drink, adding a little sweetness. Make sure to buy these organic as they are on the
top 12 list for pesticide contamination.
Dates
Dates are a great way to add sweetness to a smoothie. They add a great flavor without using
processed sugars. Make sure to remove the pits before throwing them into the blender.
Oatmeal
Oatmeal is a great addition to a smoothie as it adds important whole carbohydrates and fiber.
This helps the smoothie to stick to you for a while. Rolled oats work great for smoothies.
Hemp Seeds
Hemp seeds are currently one of my favorite foods. They are rich in essential fatty acids, protein
and fiber. I add hemp seeds to my smoothies almost every day because of how nutritious they
are as well as how creamy they make the smoothie. You can find hemp seeds at your local health
food store or online.
Quinoa
Quinoa is a super seed which is prepared like a grain. It is an amino acid-rich (protein) seed that
has a fluffy, creamy, slightly crunchy texture and a somewhat nutty flavor when cooked. Quinoa
is available in white or red (I love the red because of how pretty it looks when cooked) at your
local health food stores. It can also be purchased online.
Quinoa is rich in protein, manganese, magnesium (listen up migraine sufferers) and iron. It also
contains all 9 essential amino acids.
How to cook quinoa
To cook the quinoa, combine 1 part grain to 2 parts water in a pot. Bring to a boil, reduce, cover
and let simmer for 15 minutes. I like to make a batch, have it with dinner and make enough so I
have leftovers for my breakfast smoothie.
Chapter 1: Smoothie Ingredients - Fertility Superfoods

11
Vanilla beans
Vanilla beans or the extract can add amazing flavor to your fertility smoothies and nut milks. If
using the bean use one inch per 2 person recipe. If you are using the extract use 1/2-1 teaspoon
per 2 person smoothie.
Yogurt
Organic yogurt is one of the only dairy products I am a supporter of. It contains beneficial bacteria
which aid in its digestion as well as supporting your immune system. Make sure to eat only
organic yogurt.
What You Will NOT Find in
Our Fertility Smoothie recipes...
Processed Sugars, Syrups, Artificial Flavors
No need for these. The fruit in our smoothie recipes provide more than enough sweetness. The
reason you want to avoid processed sugars in your smoothies and entire diet is because they
lack the fiber that would allow them to enter the blood stream slowly. Instead, when you eat
processed sugars they cause your blood sugar levels to spike, causing issues with hormones,
health and inflammation.
Homogenized Milk
You won’t find homogenized milk or any dairy milk in our fertility smoothie recipes. Homogenizing
and pasteurizing milk changes the milk’s molecular structure. In addition, hormones and antibiotics
given to the cows can pass on to you. If you do want to consume milk it is best in its raw
form, or at least organic, in small amounts. In our recipes we trade out cow’s milk with nut milks,
fresh juices or water.
Soy Milk
Processed soy products should be avoided due to their estrogen mimicking properties. If you
need a replacement check out one of our nut milk recipes and include those in your smoothies.
Soy Protein
While protein powder is a great ingredient to add to your smoothies, we do not promote or
suggest that soy protein be used for the same reasons as soy milk. Some great alternatives are
whey protein (from clean cows that don’t have antibiotics or hormones), hemp protein or rice
protein.
13
Fertility Superfoods
Superfoods are foods that are nutrient dense, have an abundance of minerals, vitamins,
antio xidants, and other beneficial ingredients in high amounts. Superfoods should be a part of
every couple's fertility diet to help bridge the gap for proper nutrition, to nourish the egg and the
sperm, and help to balance hormones. Here is a rundown of 5 Fertility Superfoods you should
know about:
Maca
Maca is a wonderful superfood from Peru which helps to balance the hormones, increase egg
health, increase sperm count and sperm health while also being a tonic for the endocrine system.
Maca also helps to increase progesterone if the body is low in this important hormone. Maca
comes in capsules, powder and tincture. It can be taken everyday.
Royal Jelly
Royal jelly is another fertility specific superfood which may help to increase egg health, the quality
of the egg, and general fertility. Royal jelly is the food that is fed to a certain bee which is what
transforms her into the queen bee. She goes on to live six years and lays up to 2000 eggs per
day. Most bees live less than two months.
Royal jelly is rich in vitamins A, B, C, D and E. It also contains minerals including calcium and
iron, all of the essential amino acids plus antibacterial and immune stimulating properties.
Royal jelly comes in capsules or in a base of honey. It can be taken everyday.
Bee Propolis and Bee Pollen
Bee propollis and bee pollen are two more fertility superfoods from our friends the bees. These
foods are rich in nutrients. Bee pollen contains 50% more protein than beef and is rich in every
vitamin and mineral. Bee Propolis is a powerful immune system stimulant and inflammation aid.
It also helps women who have endometriosis.
Bee propolis and bee pollen are available in capsules or in a base of honey. They can be taken
everyday.
Chapter 1: Smoothie Ingredients - Fertility Superfoods

14
Whey Protein Powder
While we all know that protein is essential for a healthy diet, many women do not get enough
protein in their daily diet. In the fertility diet it is essential to have protein with each meal so your
blood sugar levels stay balanced. This can be hard in our daily lifestyles so I suggest for you to
use a protein powder. But it can be hard to find a protein powder that is acceptable with a healthy
fertility diet. All protein sources should be organic or raised without hormones and antibiotics,
and the protein source should never be soy.
I have found one protein powder that is made from “clean” whey, which means it was made from
cow's milk that does not have any hormones or antibiotics. It is called Fertilica Whey. Fertilica
Whey does not contain sugars, dyes, or artificial ingredients. This has been essential for helping
many women to stick to their fertility diet.
Green Superfoods
Green superfoods are green foods that contain high concentrations of nutrition. Imagine a
vegetable with more protein than soy, more vitamin A than carrots, more iron than beef, that is
a profound source of protective phytochemicals, naturally low in fat, source of the essential fatty
acid GLA and is easy to digest.
A powdered green superfood supplement like Fertilica UltraGreens makes it easy to get your
greens every day.
Pumpkin Seeds
Rich in manganese, magnesium, iron, zinc and protein, pumpkin seeds are also packed with
minerals. This is a food that is wonderful for both men and women. To use in smoothies soak for
a couple of hours and add 1/4 cup per smoothie.
Flax Seeds
Packed with omega 3 fatty acids (alpha linolenic acid to be exact) these seeds can be used in
your smoothie in their oil form or by grinding up the seeds in a coffee grinder. Flax seeds are
anti-inflammatory, promote a healthy immune system as well as containing beneficial fiber.
Chapter 2
Fruit Fertility Smoothies

16
Tangerine Sunshine
1 1/2 cups fresh tangerine juice
1 whole tangerine
3 fresh apricots, pitted
3 dates, pitted
1 1/2 tbsp ground pumpkin seeds
1 1/2 tbsp ground flax seeds
1,000 mg maca powder
Put all ingredients into a blender and blend well. Pumpkin seeds are rich in zinc, iron and proteins.
Flax seeds supply omega 3 EFAs in a vegetarian form.
Strawberry Fields
1 1/2 cups strawberries
1 banana
1 1/2 cups fresh orange juice
1 tsp lemon peel
1 tsp raw coconut oil
Put all ingredients into a blender and blend well. If you do not have a juicer to make the orange
juice you can add a whole peeled orange with 1 cup of water instead. Coconut oil contains EFAs
which are very important for hormonal production and balance.
Chapter 2: Fruit Fertility Smoothies

17
Hempy Treat
1-2 tbsps hemp protein powder
1 1/2 cups fresh orange juice
1 banana
1 cup blueberries
1,000 mg maca powder
Put all ingredients into the blender and blend well. Hemp protein powder can be replaced with
another type of protein powder. Hemp provides essential fatty acids, fiber, protein, and amino
acids.
Blueberry "Milk" Shake
2 cups almond milk (see instructions page 56)
2 bananas
1 cup blueberries
3 dates, pitted or 1 tbsp of honey
1/2 tsp vanilla extract
Blend until smooth and enjoy. You can also add some ice or frozen bananas if you want to make
your "milk" shake thicker. Almond milk can be replaced with hemp milk.
Chapter 2: Fruit Fertility Smoothies

18
Orange Aloe Healer
1 cup fresh aloe vera flesh
1 orange
1/4 cup soaked goji berries
3 dates, pitted or 1 tbsp of honey
Blend until smooth. When using fresh aloe vera make sure to use only the inside gel from the
aloe vera plant. Avoid the bright yellow gel near the skin of the plant. Aloe vera is very detoxifying
and soothing for the body.
Anti-Inflammatory Smoothie
1 cup water
2 cups papaya, diced
1 cup pineapple, diced
3 dates, pitted or 1 tbsp of honey
1 serving green superfood
Blend all ingredients until smooth. Using a green superfood blend, such as UltraGreens makes it
easy to get a wide variety of greens into your smoothies without having to buy a bunch of different
greens powders.
Chapter 2: Fruit Fertility Smoothies

19
Banana Chocolate Bliss
1 banana
1 cup fresh almond milk
2 tbsps chocolate powder
3 dates, pitted or 1 tbsp of honey
1 serving green superfood
1/2 tsp vanilla extract
1,000 mg maca powder
Blend together and enjoy! Try using frozen bananas in your smoothies and it will give it a smooth,
creamy consistency. The chocolate powder in this recipe could be raw or toasted. Raw chocolate
powder will have more antioxidants intact.
Enzyme Rich Colada
1/2 ripe pineapple
2 tbsp and up cilantro (amount to taste)
1 cup water
ice
Cut a pineapple in half and take the skin off. Include the core of the pineapple as this is one of
the best parts. Pineapple is rich in bromelain and enzymes that help to dissolve old protein
deposits/tissues in the body. I first had this smoothie when I was in Costa Rica and have been
blending cilantro into my smoothies ever since.
Chapter 2: Fruit Fertility Smoothies

20
Cherry Vanilla Bliss
1 banana, frozen and broken into pieces
1/2 cup cherries, pitted (fresh or frozen)
1 cup almond milk (see instructions on page 56)
2 tbsps cocoa powder (preferably raw)
1/2 tsp vanilla or 1 small piece vanilla bean
Blend all of the ingredients together. You can also make walnut milk which tastes great with this
smoothie.
Maui Wowi
1 banana
1/2 cup celery juice
1 cup mangoes, fresh or frozen
1/2 cup papayas
1 serving green superfood
1/2 cup water
ice
Blend fruits and juice together. Add water and ice to achieve desired consistency.
Chapter 2: Fruit Fertility Smoothies

21
Berry Berry Bo Berry...
1 banana
1/2 cup blueberries
1/2 cup strawberries
1/2 cup blackberries
1 1/2 cup orange juice or water
1,000 mg maca powder
600 mg royal jelly
Blend together and enjoy.
Nutty Meal Smoothie
1/4 cup hemp seeds
1/4 cup almonds, raw and soaked
1 banana
1/2 cup strawberries
3 dates, pitted or 1 tbsp honey
1 - 1 1/2 cups water
Blend and enjoy! This smoothie will stick with you for a while and has a thicker consistency. Make
sure to blend this one longer than most. The nuts will break down in the blender and your stomach
better if soaked before blending.
Chapter 2: Fruit Fertility Smoothies

22
Blueberry Cashew Crumble
1/2 cup blueberries, fresh or frozen
1/4 cup cashews
3 dates, pitted or 1 tbsp honey
1/2 tsp vanilla or 1 small piece vanilla bean
1 cup water
Place all ingredients in the blender and blend until smooth. Cashews make this smoothie creamy
while supplying important EFAs.
Blood Builder Smoothie
1 1/2 cups orange juice, freshly pressed
2 tbsp pumpkin seeds (raw and soaked)
1 tbsp hemp seeds
1 banana
1/2 cup cherries
1 serving green superfood
Blend ingredients together. Add water if you would like your smoothie thinner. The vitamin C in
the orange juice helps the body to absorb iron and reduce heavy menstruation by strengthening
blood capillaries. Pumpkin, cherries and hemp seeds provide iron and greens supply minerals
that are important for blood and menstrual health.
Chapter 2: Fruit Fertility Smoothies

23
Cherry Maca Smoothie
1 cup almond milk (see instructions on page 56)
2 cups cherries, pitted
5-6 medjool dates, pitted
1/2 cup hemp seeds
1,000 mg maca powder
I love this smoothie, rich in iron, calcium, protein and EFAs. I buy my cherries frozen and pitted
at the health food store to make it easier.
Chocolate Oatmeal Bliss
1 banana
1/8 cup oatmeal (dry)
2 tbsps dark chocolate powder
2 tbsps hemp seeds
1,000 mg maca powder
1 serving green superfood
1 date (pitted)
1/2 - 1 cup water
ice cubes
Put all ingredients in blender and add a small amount of water and begin blending. Add more
water and ice cubes (I usually use 4) until consistency is how you like your smoothies. Let this
one blend for a little while so it is smooth. Today’s fun ingredients are oatmeal and hemp seeds.
Chapter 2: Fruit Fertility Smoothies

24
Cantaloupe Cooler
1/2 - 1 ripe cantaloupe
juice of one lemon
1 tbsp fresh ginger shredded or juiced
ice
Blend until smooth. You may need to use just a little bit of water to get the blender moving, but
the cantaloupe will turn into liquid quickly. So refreshing.
Chocolate Coconut
Cashew Blessing
1 banana
1 tsp raw coconut oil
2 tbsps cocoa powder (preferably raw)
3 dates, pitted or 1 tbsp honey
Watermelon Mint Cooler
2-3 cups watermelon (if it is organic you can use the skin)
1 tbsp fresh lime juice
10 fresh mint leaves
1/2 cup coconut water or water
1 serving green superfood
A refreshing drink that incorporates green superfoods into the blend. If the watermelon is organic
you can also blend the skin which is full of nutrition.
Antioxidant Gift
1 1/2 cups orange juice, fresh pressed
1/2 cup strawberries
seeds of 1 pomegranate
1/2 cup blueberries
1/8 cup goji berries, soaked
seeds is to scoop them out into a bowl, under water.
1,000 mg maca powder
1 serving green superfood
Add all ingredients to blender, start with some water and add as needed to get desired consistency.
Almond butter or peanut butter work great in this smoothie.
Peach Pie Smoothie
2 peaches, pitted
1/2 tsp vanilla or 1 small piece vanilla bean
1,000 mg maca powder
1/2 tsp cinnamon
27
Apple Bee Bliss
1 cup fresh apple juice
1 cup strawberries
1 tbsp bee pollen
600 mg royal jelly
3 dates, pitted or 1 tbsp of honey
Blend together and enjoy the bliss. Bee pollen and royal jelly are super nutritious providing
immune supporting properties and fertility nourishing compounds.
Pear Blueberry Smoothie
1 banana
1 pear
2 tbsps hemp protein
2 tbsps hemp seeds
3 dates, pitted or 1 tbsp honey
28
Anytime Smoothie
1 1/2 cups water
1/2 cup blueberries
1/2 cup strawberries
1/2 cup pineapple
1/2 cup mangos
2 tbsps hemp protein
1 serving green superfood
1,000 mg maca powder
Blend together and enjoy at any time. This smoothie is guaranteed to make any skeptic happy.
Peaches and Cream
2 peaches (take fruit off pit)
1 banana
1,000 mg maca powder
1 cup almond milk
1 tsp vanilla
1/2 - 1 cup water
Add all ingredients to the blender. I add a little bit of water to start with to get the consistency
that I like. I also like to have some bananas in the freezer so it chills the smoothie and adds a
great creaminess. If you find that you are hungry an hour after drinking your smoothie, add
additional bananas, nuts or protein powder, they will pack additional calories to keep you
energized throughout your morning.
29
Antioxidant Blast
1/4 cup blueberries
1/4 cup strawberries
50 mg CoQ10 (open capsule and empty contents into smoothie)
1 date (pitted)
1 serving protein powder
1/2 - 1 cup water
Add all ingredients to a blender and blend. I add a little water to begin with and add more as
needed. Don’t fear the spinach in this smoothie, just try it. When I first started adding spinach to
my smoothies I was scared that it was going to taste weird and bitter, but it doesn’t. The spinach
just disappears into the smoothie and you can’t taste it at all.
Apricot Hemp Smoothie
mountain range.
Place all ingredients in a blender and blend. Add water as needed for correct consistency. If you
like it sweeter add a date. If you were to ask me what my favorite food was (and it happened to
be summer), I would say without a doubt, MANGOES! Being from an island and growing up with
tropical fruits, this one has stuck with me as my favorite food. When in season I eat a couple a
day. Another great thing about mangoes is that they are rich in vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants.
This is my fertility version of the wonderful mango lassi from India.
Costa Rican Smoothie
1 cup papaya
1 handful cilantro
1/2 - 1 cup water
While I was in Costa Rica I discovered this smoothie at a restaurant we were eating at. It was
you can't find the fruit fresh replace it with frozen fruit.
Popeye's Smoothie
1 handful spinach
1/2 cup strawberries
1 banana
1/4 cup hemp seeds
1/2 - 1 cup water
This is a simple, tasty smoothie. Great one to start with if you are not sure about putting greens
into your smoothies. The vitamin C in the strawberries helps the iron to be absorbed from the
spinach.
Wild Green Smoothie
2 cups chickweed, lambsquarters or spinach
1 banana
1 mango
2 cups water
If you recognize any of these nutritious weeds try them out in your smoothie. If chickweed and
lambsquarters are foreign to you, replace them with spinach.
Herbal and Elixir Smoothies
for Fertility Issues

40
The smoothies in this section of the book are designed specifically for each fertility topic. These
are not meant to be the only smoothie you drink daily, but to spur ideas and focus on including
the ingredients that are specific for the issue you wish to base your recipes around.
PCOS
Key Ingredients:
Maca
Vitex
Chia Seeds
Protein Powder
Quinoa
Oatmeal
EFAs
Stevia
Tips:
1. Stay away from fruit juices in your smoothies. Replace this with nut milks or water. Fruit
juices may cause a spike in the blood sugar which adds to the insulin resistance that PCOS
is known to be caused by.
2. Add fiber to your smoothies. Fiber helps to slow the release of sugars into your blood stream.
Great fiber additions to a smoothie could be wheat germ, chis seeds, quinoa or oatmeal.
3. Use protein powder in your smoothies. Protein can help to regulate the release of the sugars
in the smoothies into your blood stream.
4. Add your daily supplements to your smoothies to make it easy to take all the things you
need to.
Chapter 4: Herbal and Elixir Smoothies for Fertility Issues

41
PCOS Smoothie #1
1/3 cup hemp seeds
1/2 cup blueberries
1 cup water
1,000 mg maca powder
900 - 1,000 mg Vitex
1/2 tbsp vanilla extract
small pinch of stevia (optional)
Blend until smooth and enjoy. You can also add some ice if you want to make your "milk" shake
thicker. Almonds (soaked) can replace hemp seeds if you are not able to find them. Stevia is an
herb that is sweet to the taste but does not contain any sugars. This is a great “sweetener” for
women with PCOS to use.
PCOS Smoothie #2
1/3 cup oatmeal
1 cup peaches
1 cup water
1,000 mg maca powder
900 - 1,000 mg Vitex
1 serving flax oil
1 banana
Blend until smooth and enjoy. The fiber from the oatmeal helps to regulate the release of the
fruit sugars in this smoothie.
Endometriosis
Key Ingredients:
Pineapple
Papaya
Leafy Greens
Quinoa
Chia Seeds
Bee Propolis
Maca
Tips:
1. Eat foods rich in enzymes such as pineapple and papaya. The special enzymes in these fruits
may help to support your body in reducing the inflammation caused from endometriosis.
2. Eat fiber rich foods like quinoa and chia seeds. Fiber in the system helps the body to get rid
of excess hormones
3. Add superfoods such as propolis and maca to your smoothies to help with hormonal balance
and reduce the pain caused from endometriosis.
1 cup frozen strawberries
1 handful of spinach
smoothie and a little water.
Sesame Seeds
Ginger
Oranges
L Arginine
Alpha Lipoic Acid
Tips:
1. When it comes to trying to improve your egg health the key is to eat a really healthy diet for at
least 3 months (more is preferable) before you are trying to conceive.
2. Use supplements and therapies that help to increase circulation to the ovaries and uterus.
This will help to carry all of the important nutrients you are eating to your eggs.
3. Antioxidants are your friend. By eating a diet rich in fruit, greens and superfoods you are
supplying your body with important antioxidants. Antioxidants help to protect the DNA of your
Fertility Puddings
What is a Fertility Pudding?
A fertility pudding is an alternate way to get nourishing foods and fertility superfoods (maca and
green superfoods) into your day. They are similar to smoothies but omit the liquid. Don't be fooled
by the ingredients, these puddings taste fantastic and make a healthy dessert.
Green superfood powders are wonderful to add to your fertility pudding. They are mild tasting,
packed with protein, minerals, vitamins and chlorophyll.
Maca powder is really versatile and can be added to fertility puddings as well as many foods,
including oatmeal, baking recipes and hummus. Fertility puddings can be eaten any time of day
and will keep in the fridge for a couple of days. They do taste best fresh though.
Banana Pudding
2 bananas
1/2 avocado
2 dates (pitted)
1,000 mg maca powder
1 serving green superfood
optional: 1/2-1 tsp chocolate powder
Add all ingredients in the blender. Use a little bit of water just to get things moving. The
consistency when it is ready is a smooth pudding. You can do a lot with puddings. You can add
oatmeal, almond butter or any type of fruit you want. Have fun and experiment. Also make plenty
to share.
Chia Coconut Pudding
1 tbsp chia seed
1 banana
1/4 cup fresh coconut meat
1/8 cup walnuts
1,000 mg maca powder
To get fresh coconut meat you can crack a coconut open and scoop out the meat. If you do not
have access to fresh coconuts then replace it with shredded coconut. Mix all ingredients in a
blender and enjoy.
Mango Banana Pudding
1 mango
1 banana
1 serving green superfood
If you are finding a full serving of green superfoods to be too strong, then start with smaller
amounts. Taken on a daily basis they can still make a difference. After a while your taste buds
will get used to the flavor and you can increase the amount.
Herbal Nut Milks
What is a Fertility Pudding?
Nut milks are a wonderful alternative to dairy milk. Since they are made fresh they contain viable
essential fatty acids, easy to digest proteins and calcium. Once I started making nut milks I was
not able to go back to the boxed milks sold on the shelf.
Nut milks can be used in various ways. They can be used in place of milk for teas, cereals, baking
and as a base liquid in smoothies.
If you would like to see an instructional video on how to make nut milks click here:
58
Red Raspberry Leaf Milk
1 tbsp raspberry leaf
1 cup water
When you make the nut milk recipes above use this chilled red raspberry tea instead of water.
To make the tea, use 1 tablespoon of red raspberry herb to 1 cup of water. Add the herb to the
water. Bring to a boil and immediately turn off heat and cover with a lid. Let steep for 15 minutes.
Cool in the fridge then add to the smoothie. When you are ready to make your milk, use the
chilled tea in place of water.
Fertility Tonic Soups
What Makes a “Fertility Soup”?
While there are no specific fertility superfoods in these soups, the nutrients and nutrition you are
getting from these soups helps the body to operate at optimal health. All kinds of health issues
have been reversed by people eating energy soups frequently. In addition, the iodine from the
dulse nourishes the thyroid which is an important gland involved in hormone balance.
Energy Soup
2 handfuls greens (spinach, arugula, romaine, etc.)
1 handful sprouts (mung, lentil, green pea, etc.)
1/2 avocado
1/2-1 apple (depending on how sweet you like it)
2 tbsps dulse
2 tbsps hemp seeds or pine nuts
water
Add all ingredients to the blender and blend. Add water as needed. The finished consistency
when it is ready is a smooth soup. Pour into a bowl and eat with a spoon. Add salt and pepper
as needed. This soup was first created by a woman named Ann Wigmore, who helped thousands
of people with their health through this soup and other healing foods. I have this for lunch a
couple of times a week in the summer and have made it differently every time. Also remember
you can try different ingredients in your soups.
