Day 1: New Forest - Isle of Wight<br />

Travel south-west to the county of Hampshire and the New Forest<br />

where our first stop is Lymington, a pretty Georgian market town<br />

and popular sailing resort. From here take the short ferry crossing<br />

over the Solent to the Isle of Wight. Admire the stunning scenery<br />

of the island as you make your way to Carisbrooke Castle. Enjoy<br />

a local seafood lunch at a nearby inn before continuing your<br />

journey to Osborne House, Queen Victoria’s royal seaside palace.<br />

Day 1: Cotswolds<br />

Travel through beautiful English countryside to the most famous<br />

university city in the world, Oxford. Famous students include<br />

2: Bath - Salisbury<br />

Appreciate the charms of the New Forest today with a visit<br />

to Buckler’s Hard, which played an important part in Britain’s<br />

shipbuilding history. Continue your journey to the magnificent<br />

medieval city of Salisbury. Drive over Salisbury Plain and pass<br />

Stonehenge before arriving at the beautiful Georgian city of Bath.<br />

Explore the amazing Roman Baths, a magnificent temple and<br />

bathing complex built by the Romans around a hot spring. This<br />

evening you are free to explore more of this vibrant city at your<br />

Day 3: Bath<br />

Explore the delightful county of Somerset starting off with a visit to<br />

Muchelney Abbey, once a 16th century Benedictine house. Call in<br />

briefly at “John Leach’s Pottery” and hopefully glimpse the potters<br />

at work. Visit a local cider farm before stopping in at a family-run<br />

smokery. Make your way back to Bath and pass through the amazing<br />

Cheddar Gorge, with its dramatic cliffs and its spectacular stalactite<br />

caverns. This area is particularly famous for Cheddar cheese which<br />

you will see being made and, of course, sample the delicious results.<br />

Day 4: London<br />

Leave the West Country behind and head to London, stopping at<br />

the attractive town of Hungerford, an antique-collector’s paradise.<br />

1: London - Cambridge - York - Darlington<br />

Drive north to the university town of Cambridge. Then on to<br />

York, to walk through narrow cobbled streets to the Tudor<br />

‘Shambles’ and York Minster, England’s largest medieval cathedral.<br />

Day 2: Darlington - Jedburgh - Edinburgh<br />

Across the wild Northumberland Moors and past the romantic ruins<br />

of Jedburgh Abbey to Scotland’s elegant capital of Edinburgh. An<br />

afternoon guided tour shows the best of the city including the<br />

stately Royal Mile and Edinburgh Castle. Overnight: Edinburgh (B)<br />

Day 3: Edinburgh - Lake District - Liverpool<br />

Drive through the Southern Uplands to Gretna Green then cross<br />

the border back into England. Enjoy a drive through Lake District,<br />

a region so beautiful it inspired a host of English poets. Wander in<br />

Wordsworth’s footsteps by the lake before continuing to Liverpool.<br />

Day 4: Liverpool - Chester - Stratford - London<br />

First visit today is the former Roman fortress town of Chester.<br />

Walk along part of the well-preserved walls, see the Cathedral,<br />

the unique black and white ‘Rows’ (shopping arcades) and the<br />

remains of the Roman Ampitheatre. At Stratford-upon-Avon, visit<br />

Shakespeare’s birthplace. Return to London through the<br />

philosopher John Locke, the comedy writer Richard Curtis, Albert<br />

Einstein and C.S. Lewis. Christ Church’s Great Hall and cloisters were<br />

also recently used in the Harry Potter films. Afterwards, traverse<br />

the gentle, timeless hills of the Cotswolds, stopping at some of the<br />

exquisite gems before arriving in a local Cotswold village.<br />

Day 2: Cotswolds<br />

This morning is a feast for literary enthusiasts and history buffs. Visit<br />

Shakespeare’s Stratford-upon-Avon to discover Ye Olde England of<br />

the Bard’s birth and his final resting place, Holy Trinity College.<br />

Day 3: Bath<br />

Begin with a visit to the picture-perfect village of Lacock, before<br />

arriving in the splendid Georgian city of Bath. Listed as a World<br />

Heritage Site, Bath is truly one of Europe’s most attractive cities,<br />

boasting the highest concentration of listed buildings anywhere in<br />

the British Isles. Literary enthusiasts may visit the Jane Austen Centre.<br />

Day 4: Stonehenge - Windsor Castle<br />

Leaving Bath behind enjoy more spectacular sights travelling across<br />

Salisbury Plain to visit the great mystical construction at Stonehenge.<br />

Then onwards to the glorious city of Salisbury to admire the tallest<br />
