With our universal, fast battery charger, you can rapidly and reliably charge all common types of battery
with voltages ranging from 7.2V to 12V, say from Bosch, Delvo, Hitachi or Makita.
Battery packs from ABB/AEG, Atlas Copco (System 3000), Black & Decker, Dewalt, ELU, Festo, Fein, Metabo,
Panasonic (7.2V to 12.0V) and Yokota can also be charged using optional adapters.
Operating location
The charger is designed for use in dry areas. All ventilation slots must be kept free. If possible, keep away
from heat sources and out of direct sunlight as ambient temperatures in excess of 35°C may increase
charging times considerably.
AC-line connection
Before connecting the charger, check that the AC supply voltage and frequency are the same as those
indicated on the charger. The charger is ready for operation when the power cord is connected to the AC
line outlet.
Safety instructions
Before using the charger, carefully read the safety instructions and operating instructions so that you do not
compromise your safety.
The charger is designed only for Ni-Cd and Ni-MH batteries with voltages ranging from 7.2V to 12V and
capacities from 1.2Ah to 3.0Ah.
Before you use the charger, check the power cord, extension cable and connectors for any signs of damage
or ageing.
Do not open up batteries or the charger – do not puncture or expose to heat as there is a RISK OF
EXPLOSION.
Only store in dry areas. Protect from moisture and damp.
Do not use if the charger is defective and never insert defective batteries.
Observe the symbols on the charger’s rating plate.
Charging current 3.0A.
Do not throw old batteries into the fi re or dispose of as domestic waste. Akku Power has an environmentalfriendly
battery disposal scheme – contact your local dealer.
Keep metal objects that could cause shorts away from the charger. Also keep the ventilation slots free of
metal or metal shavings.
Do not dismantle the charger or batteries.
Repairs may only be performed by specially trained technicians.
Putting into service and operation
Left-hand, red LED (light-emitting diode)
If the charger is connected to the AC line and the lefthand LED goes red, the charger is OK. If the LED is red
and flashing the charger has a fault.
Right-hand, multi-coloured LED (light-emitting diode)
When the charger is connected to the AC line, the right-hand LED shows green for about 2 seconds. This
indicates that a self-test is being performed and that the charger is ready for operation. You can now insert
the batteries you want to charge. Check for correct polarity (+/-).
If there is a fault, the left-hand LED is red and fl ashing.
This indicates a charger malfunction – Further charging is not possible.
Charging procedure
Voltage, temperature, short-circuit and polarity checks are made on inserted batteries. Before charging is
started, the safety elements (bi-metal strip or NTC resistor) are checked via the temperature contact.
If the safety elements are OK, the right-hand LED goes green and the charging procedure incorporating the
special AP-Akku-Druckanstieg-Schutz (ADAS) (APAkku excess pressure feature) commences.
Charging state detection is a special feature of this charging method. By modifying the charging current, it
is possible to prevent excess internal battery pressure and a rise in the charging voltage.
Continuous yellow
(right-hand LED – charging state (right-hand LED – charging state indicator CSI) The battery has reached at
least 90% of its nominal capacity, i.e. the battery is almost fully charged and it is now best to stop charging.
ENGLISH

This charging method considerably increases battery operating life. If charging is continued, a modifi ed
charging current is used to ensure the fi nal stages of charging are reliable and effective whilst protecting
the battery.
Green flashing
(right-hand LED) The battery is fully (right-hand LED) The battery is fully charged and the charger
automatically switches over to the trickle charge mode. The battery can be left indefi nitely in the charger
without sustaining any damage. Overcharging is impossible.
Red flashing
(right-hand LED) The safety elements (right-hand LED) The safety elements are defective or the battery is
too hot or too cold. The battery should be removed from the charger so that it can return to its proper
temperature range.
Continuous red (right-hand LED) The battery is defective.
Red/green flashing
(right-hand LED) Ni-MH batteries (right-hand LED) Ni-MH batteries tend to heat up more during charging. It
may be that the charging procedure has been terminated on the basis of temperature rather than - ∆ V.
If the right-hand LED does not come on, the battery circuit is open or there is a reverse polarity
condition.
Charging times
The following table lists the various charging times (the charging time depends on the depth of discharge).
Battery type .............................................Nominal capacity (Ah)...................................Max. charging time
Ni-Cd .......................................................................... 1.4 .........................................................................35min
Ni-Cd .......................................................................... 1.7 .........................................................................40min
Ni-Cd .......................................................................... 2.0 .........................................................................50min
Ni-Cd .......................................................................... 2.4 .........................................................................70min
Ni-MH ......................................................................... 2.2 .........................................................................65min
Ni-MH ......................................................................... 3.0 .........................................................................75min
Warning
The right-hand LED flashes red to indicate a charger fault. A charger malfunction has occurred and it
is not possible to continue charging. Do not use the charger to charge other batteries.
If batteries are new or have not been used for some time, it is quite likely that they do not reach their
nominal capacity. This is not a fault and normal under these circumstances. Full capacity will be reached
after about the third charge/discharge cycle.
The charger monitors the battery-pack temperature. Batteries with temperatures above 65°C or below
5°C are not charged.
If battery discharge has bottomed out or the battery has been heated up by, say, sunlight (or any other
heat source), the right-hand LED may turn red and flash. If this is the case, remove the battery from
the charger and let it cool down. The charger has been designed for Ni-Cd and Ni-MH batteries. Ni-MH
batteries tend to heat up more during charging and charging may well be terminated according to a
temperature condition rather than the - ∆ V condition. The right-hand LED flashes green/red when this
happens.
