2.14 The forum considered the issues that needed to be resolved in order to achieve the<br />
objectives. These were wide ranging, but serve to illustrate the practical issues faced by<br />
many supply chains trying to move forward. The issues included:<br />
• Communication and Information processes<br />
• Understanding each other’s business objectives<br />
• Understanding each other’s systems, processes and requirements<br />
• Achieving the new ‘culture’ we desire<br />
• Team working<br />
• Health, Safety and Welfare<br />
• Tendering processes (simplification and cost reduction)<br />
• Payment processes<br />
• Improved process for resolving problems and disputes<br />
• Pricing and costing processes<br />
• Pain and gain incentivisation system<br />
• Protection of overhead and profit allowances<br />
• Involvement of specialist contractors in project planning and programming<br />
• The quality of specialist contractors and <strong>Interserve</strong>’s staff.<br />
Regional supply chain’s opportunities<br />
2.15 The forum considered the opportunities that were available through working closely<br />
together in a supply chain. The opportunities ranged from those which would provide low<br />
cost and measurable improvements in the short term to those which would require longer<br />
term development before delivering tangible benefits. The opportunities identified<br />
included:<br />
• Joint management processes<br />
• IPSL joint specialist suppliers and contractors training programmes<br />
• Joint purchasing<br />
• Joint training<br />
• Effective and open communication<br />
• Suppliers increased value management input into tenders and design development<br />
• Improving work flow<br />
• Sharing knowledge<br />
• Improved use of information technology<br />
• Consistency of team members<br />
• Transparent key performance indicators for all<br />
• Reduce bureaucracy<br />
• Reduce the number of acronyms or at least provide a glossary.<br />
