service Provider on course for GrowtH

Munich, 14 October, 2011

at the Konica Minolta european leadership conference 2011 over 1,200 customers and partners

gained a qualified insight into the concepts and future of the traditional brand for business solutions.

the Group is focused on an expansion strategy with growth to be achieved through consistent

positioning as a comprehensive solution provider in the b2b sector. the pan-european approach is as

follows: expansion of the business segments optimized Print services, Production Printing, and

solutions and intensification of partnerships.

For Ken Osuga, President of Konica Minolta Business Solutions Europe, the Groups' path and objective, at

the European Leadership Conference 2011 in Munich, are clear: "Konica Minolta is targeting company

growth in Europe . We will obtain the required productivity and value creation by continuing to pursue the

external and internal transformation to a solutions provider . The key levers for this are the expansion of the

business segments Optimized Print Services and Production Printing and the extension of Services and

Solutions ."

The event slogan - "T(w)ogether for Tomorrow" - refers to a further business principle: Strategic cooperation

and distribution partners play a central role in implementing the business model . "More complex IT structures

and flexible working processes always require new combinations of system technology, software and

applications. Apart from internal solutions and software, we also require specific partner know-how in order

to react precisely to the individual requirements of various different projects," says Osuga .

The Group is currently targeting strong growth in the area of Production Printing . Konica Minolta Europe is

well positioned in this area. The new flagship in Professional Production Printing, the bizhub PRESS C8000

has proven to be a bestseller. “In the first half of 2011 the system has been the top selling cut sheet colour

production printer in Western Europe . This makes us very proud and motivates us to achieve similar results

for our other products,” says Olaf Lorenz, General Manager of the International Marketing Division at Konica

Minolta Business Solutions Europe . This result is based upon research from Infosource, a Swiss market data

specialist for the automation industry in Western and Eastern Europe, the Middle East and Africa . For

Eastern Europe, Konica Minolta earned an even better result – here Konica Minolta has a 50 percent market

share in the colour press cut sheet segment and has therefore been the number one selling brand for the

first six months of 2011. Lorenz also sees a trend to solution business in this area: "Apart from high-quality

hardware, in-house printing departments and print service providers will increasingly demand a qualified mix

of advice and additional services ."

Optimized Print Services (OPS) is also expanding and offering its services throughout Europe . Launched in

2010, the segment has rapidly become a trend-setting tool for comprehensive external print and document

services in B2B business . This also has consequences in the area of hardware: Numerous OPS projects

clearly demonstrated an additional demand for A4 systems in the black-and-white segment . Konica Minolta

will react to this demand with new systems .

At Konica Minolta’s ELC 2011 the emphasis is on the fact that there is more to their business strategy than

added value through first-class products. In 2008 the Konica Minolta Group therefore signed the United

Nations Global Compact . The initiative obligates companies to assume social responsibility as a code of

conduct both inside and outside the Company. Corporate Social Responsibility is therefore a fundamental

part of the management philosophy .

it trends and vertical aPProacH

Munich, 14 October, 2011

covering an area of 1,500 square metres, the european leadership conference 2011 (elc) displays new

products, applications and services. the focus of the exhibition follows information technology mega trends

such as cloud applications and mobile it. Plus, the cross-industry, vertical market approach emphasizes

the progressive change of the Group into a solution provider. the corporate Green it approaches displayed

affect the entire life cycle of the products.

"If we want to understand what the business solutions of tomorrow will look like we have to consider mega

trends in information technology . For example, Cloud applications, mobile IT solutions and fundamental

developments that have occupied our research departments for a considerable time and which have al -

ready been followed by a multitude of products, applications and services", Olaf Lorenz, General Manager,

International Marketing Division at Konica Minolta Business Solutions, explains the pan-European product

philosophy of the Business Solutions division .

This is reflected by a part of the exhibition accompanying the ELC 2011. The entire spectrum of hardware

and technology of a competent provider in print and output management is presented in an area over 1,500

square meters large . Moreover, various topic islands bundle focus areas such as Cloud printing, new technologies

and professional services .

Further islands are dedicated to individual target markets . "Konica Minolta pursues a vertical market approach.

We have picked the vertical markets education, healthcare, finance and legal. We see the highest

potential for our business in those sectors . Now, we are developing dedicated integrated solutions that suit

these target groups’ typical applications and respond to their particular needs“, says Lorenz . New applications

can also bee seen: Printgroove JT Web, the established web-to-print solution for print service providers

and companies, sets a new benchmark in comfort and efficiency for administrators and print-job operators

with Version 5 .0 . The high number of software, applications and process-oriented solutions across industries

illustrates the continuing change of the Group from hardware supplier to solution provider . Konica Minolta

also plans to extend its spectrum of large format printers for the graphics industry: The new KIP KC100 is

designed for printing professionals who require high speed production of colour and monochrome technical

documents, business communications and display graphics .

The issue of sustainable and resource-conserving production has always been of great importance at Konica

Minolta. The first biomass printer toner had already been developed by the year 2000. In its "Ecovision", the

Group wants to reduce CO2 emissions by 80 percent by the year 2050 – starting from the base year 2005.

20 percent will be achieved by 2015 . Its own stance on this issue is found under the slogan "Corporate

Green" . It shows a green approach and technologies, which affects the entire product life-cycle of the system,

from fundamental research through to recycling .

"Our customers and partners receive an insight into the future of Business Solutions at the ELC 2011 . If

you want to be at the forefront in document and output management you have to offer efficient, locationindependent

and network-orientated concepts for the organisation of work . This is where Konica Minolta

Business Solutions has delivered at the ELC 2011", concludes Lorenz .

business solutions euroPe sets focus on financial GrowtH

Munich, 14 October, 2011

Konica Minolta business solutions europe achieves positive financial results in the 2010/2011 fiscal year

and the first quarter of 2011 despite a sometimes difficult business environment. the future focus will be

set on financial growth.

At € 1 .7 billion, the consolidated sales for Konica Minolta Business Solutions Europe in FY 2010 exceed the

previous year’s results by nearly ten percent .

The first quarter of the current fiscal year was also successful: Net sales for the group from April to June

2011 reached around € 442 million. These figures are nearly ten percent better than the results for the

corresponding quarter in the previous fiscal year. This success is all the more satisfying considering the

difficult situation caused by the tsunami in Japan on March 11. The company’s production was affected by

temporary supply problems, and this may continue to a lesser extent into the second quarter of 2011 .

The temporary bottleneck had a certain impact on multi-function system (MFP) sales . With around 45,500

units sold, figures for Europe remained about five percent below projections. On the other hand, printer

sales exceeded expectations, with 29,000 bizhub and magicolor / pagepro models sold, which is around

four percent above target . However, this is 1,500 units below the corresponding quarter in the previous year .

This apparent contradiction is due to a change in business models for some countries, where sales of ‘open

model’ (magicolor / pagepro) printers to distributors are no longer conducted as intensively as in the past,

and a decline in sales was therefore expected .

In Production Printing, the group achieved a substantial increase in the first quarter, selling 1,171 colour and

black-and-white systems – an increase of nearly 60 percent over the previous year. The new bizhub PRESS

product line proved to be particularly successful. In particular with the introduction of the bizhub PRESS

C8000 into the Mid Production Printing sector, Konica Minolta offers additional opportunities for in-house

print shops and print service providers .

The future focus is clearly set on financial growth. In the 2010/2011 fiscal year, the 27,200 employees of

Konica Minolta Business Technologies achieved more than € 4.8 billion of net sales worldwide.
