New Sunflower Chisel Plow Lines Introduced By AGCO
DULUTH, GA – August 2006 — AGCO announces the new AGCO Sunflower 4213
Series and 4233 Series chisel plow lines. The new tillage tools are built to last with ultra high
molecular weight (UHMW) material in rocker shafts and lift assemblies for years of maintenance
free service. Other features include a depth gauge for hydraulically controlled coulter gangs and
shank placement/spacing for smooth residue flow.
“These coulter chisel plows are designed and engineered for today’s high residue fields
and time and soil saving conservation tillage,” says Gary Hamilton, general marketing manager,
AGCO Sunflower. “With nine variations to choose from, crop producers can select the single
section or three section chisel plow that meets their size requirements, available horsepower and
tillage timing preference.”
The Sunflower 4213 chisel plow is designed to fracture soil compaction up to 12 to 14
inches deep while improving early spring soil warm up. It is available with 7, 9, 11, 13 or 15
shanks with cutting and transfer widths of 8 ft. 9 in. to 18 ft. 9 in. All five models share 15-in.
spacing on the shanks and 7 1/2-in. spacing on the 20-in. coulter blades. Dirt and residue clearing
trash bars are mounted between coulter blades. Fifty-pound separating spools on each coulter
help them slice through trash and soil ahead of the shanks, which break up hardpan and soil
compaction to depths of 12-14 in.
The Sunflower 4233 chisel plow, with its greater width and three-section design, flexes
over rough terrain and folds for narrow transport between fields. It is ideal for larger operators
needing to cover more acres, faster during the narrow, fall tillage window. Cutting widths of 21
ft. 3 in. to 28 ft. 9 in. share a common transport width of only 14 ft. 6 in., thanks to the three-
section design. It is available with 17, 19, 21 or 23 shanks.
“Frame bounce and uneven penetration is prevented by walking tandems teamed with
high point load shanks,” says Larry Kuster, product marketing specialist, AGCO Sunflower.
“The design of the overhead truss hitch maximizes the down pressure of the 4-x 6- x 3/8-in.
sidewall tube steel frame, distributing the draft load evenly across the sections.”
Customers can choose between rigid shear bolt and auto-reset shanks and from a wide
variety of shovels, points and hitches. Optional frame extensions for the back bar will stagger
shanks even more for easier flow in extra heavy residue conditions.
“There is an AGCO Sunflower tillage unit for nearly every size cropping operation, soil
type and tractor,” says Hamilton. “They are heavy duty units with minimal maintenance needs,
longer working life and greater productivity.”
