Winter 2012

Greetings from Mill Creek. We hope everyone is doing

well and staying warm. The weather has been quite nice

with the exception of some cold mornings.

Most of our seasonal residents have returned home or will

be soon. We wish them all a Happy Holiday season and

look forward to seeing them again in the Spring.

Membership packages will begin going out near the first

of December. So if you aren’t already a member, please

let us know and we’ll email or mail a package to you as

Stay Warm!!!

Joe on Golf

Greetings and Happy Holidays to all,

Winter is here again. I apologize for missing the Thanksgiving Dinner this year. Unfortunately,

I was on business in New Jersey that weekend. Kristi and I did the chance however

to loan a small hand to the victims of Hurricane Sandy. It was a humbling experience

for us both and helped us to realize just how lucky were are. However, we did miss

out on another great meal courtesy of Michelle.

Many of you are already aware that there is a pending sale of Mill Creek in the works.

We have a closing date scheduled for December 27th of this year. So it is very possible

that this will be my last Edition of Slices. If it is, then as editor, I would like to thank all

of your for your continued support, photos, feedback and input into this publication. It

has been a labor of love… and hate... sometimes to put it out with deadlines, photos,

schedules, mistakes and all the details, but I have thoroughly enjoyed it nonetheless.

With regard to the buyer, I can now announce that Warren Hughes is the buyer. It is my

understanding that Mr. Hughes will be sending a letter and offering memberships for 2013.

If you need to get in touch with questions or concerns with Mr. Hughes, please email and we’ll see to it that Mr. Hughes receives your correspondence.

I have invited Mr. Hughes to the both the member dinner and the open dinner

and he said he would try to attend.

If the sale does go through, I would also like to thank each of you for your continued support

of the club. I have enjoyed getting to know many of you and will be leaving with

many fond memories.

Thanks again,

Joe Culpepper

From the Pro Shop

November 2012:

Pro-Shop hours will remain from 8:30– 4:30 for the winter.

Carts with Winter covers are available for rent in the Pro-Shop. The cost is $ 5.00

for 18 holes.

Please remember to keep your carts on the path near tee boxes and greens, repair

your ball marks and fill your divots. This is particularly true in winter when the

grass takes a long time to heal when damaged.

Law #3:

Golf Humor

Brand new golf balls are water-magnetic. Though this cannot be proven in

the lab, it is a known fact that the more expensive the golf ball, the greater its

attraction to water. (Editors note: I personally find that the Pro-V1 is quite

good at hitting trees, water, and the roof of houses but performs very poorly

when asked to hit the center of a club face.)

“If you watch a game, it’s fun. If you play it, it’s recreation. If you work at

it, it’s golf” Bob Hope

Hello to all. Looking back, we have had a great season and we feel like we have

improved the conditioning of the course significantly over last year. I am thankful

for all of the gracious compliments that have been received.

I want to thank all of you for helping to keep ball marks under control and for

sanding your divots. When we all work together, it benefits everyone.

Through the winter, you can expect to see the greens a little faster as growth slows.

Also, please note that on days when there is frost, please don’t walk on it and do you

best to avoid it whenever possible.

We are looking forward to more continued improvements over the winter. We’ll be

applying weed control, removing trees, and cleaning up creeks over the winter. We

also are hopeful that we can repair and patch a few rough spots in the cart paths over

the winter if the current plans are followed.

I am sure that many of you already know of the pending change in ownership that is

scheduled to take place at the end of the year. Regardless of whatever changes take

place in the coming months, please know that I have enjoyed my time here and hope

that my time here will continue.

It is felt that we have had another very successful year. We

want to thank Joe Culpepper, Kevin Bell, David Waugh, Scott
