ThE MINISTER’S EDITORIAL NOvEMBER 24 Th, 2011
The Maison Méditerranéenne des Métiers de la Mode has become a
key actor thanks to the work that the President, Jean-Brice Garella,
his counsellor Maryline Bellieud-Vigouroux as well as the governing
board have achieved. The have carried out successfully a brand new
Euro-Mediterranean partnership for the young designers’ promotion,
recognition and development. This exemplary organization gathers 3
houses that can’t be dissociated from fashion: tuition, design and the
economic and cultural influence. It is in the very heart of this skilful,
innovating, conversing, communicating and state crafting setting
that the house of Design has expanded all its energy to develop since
the summer 2010. Marseille, the 2013 European Capital of Culture,
has become a dynamic design and fashion pole.
The Mediterranean Rim has witnessed new talents, new artistic expressions come to the fore,
and that need support. Far from their fabric and patterns, young designers have to become
entrepreneurs. That is why the house of Design’s main goal is to habituate, to help and to
back designers from the Mediterranean Rim so their designs can come to life and be made
durable.
According to Jean-Jacques Picart “Fashion is no art: it is inspired trade”, to me fashion is
both art and inspired trade.
An outstanding college of experts such as Jean-Jacques Picart and Jocelyne Imbert have
surrounded Françoise Montenay, President of the Supervisory Board of Chanel SAS and the
Comité Colbert and of the CEW (Cosmetic Executive Women) . It is a unique opportunity of
knowledge and meeting spread over 6 months between Paris and Marseille at the rate of a
week a month, between designers and inevitable personalities from the world of luxury, ready-to-wear
or manufactures.
In 2012, for the third time around, the house of Design will welcome 7 young entrepreneur
fashion designers from France, Israel, Lebanon, Morocco, Portugal, Turkey and Tunisia.
Through its commitment to passing on, this Franco Mediterranean initiative carries the noblest
desire of design and in the field of possibilities. The Ministry of Culture and Communication
will be, once again in 2012 along the house of Design.
EDITORIAL
Dear young Euromediterranean fashion entrepreneurs,
The Maison Méditerranéenne des Métiers de la Mode and its prestigious Board as well as the
whole of the Euro-Mediterranean partners are the actors of this ground-breaking initiative
-that is so far unique in Europe - it evolves around 3 entities which are the Maison de la Formation
(Tuition), Maison de la Création (Design), and the Maison des évènements Economiques
et Culturels (Economic & Cultural Events).
Each of these houses benefits from the skills and the amazing experience of well-known experts.
Their main motivations: reveal and support the Euro-Mediterranean creativity at the
very heart of the city of Marseille.
The Maison de la Formation provides a Masters Degree specialized in Fashion and textile
Trades since the fall of 2011 with 15 students making up the first cohort of graduates. The
second year of the same Masters Degree will start in 2012.
The first two sessions of the Maison de la Création in 2010 and 2011 have confirmed the
relevance of the initiative- fostering, enhancing and supporting the talent of young Euro-Mediterranean
fashion entrepreneurs by providing them with a first-of-its-kind leadership programme.
Indeed, as part of the Master classes, a prestigious team of expert lecturers provide more
than 280 hours of individual or collective exchanges as well as lunch-debates and 2 exhibitions,
one in Marseilles, the other in Paris.
In 2012, once again, we will welcome 7 new contestants hailing from our partner countries
France, Israel, Lebanon, Morocco, Portugal, Turkey and Tunisia.
Moreover, the Maison de la Création is taking part in the Marseille Provence, European Capital
of Culture 2013 dynamic set-up of events.
The Maison des Evènements Economiques et Culturels aims at enhancing cultural and
economic diversity of emerging as well as established companies which are located on our
domestic territory with a focus on both the Southern bank of the Mediterranean and an international
level.
If you decide to take part in this call for applications, you will be given the opportunity to be
one of the 2012 Maison de la Création successful candidates.
