the 787-hectare site also includes the two Trianon Châteaux, Marie-
Antoinette’s estate, the French-style gardens of André Le Nôtre and
the Grand Parc.

All new! Eleven rooms lead you through the architectural history of
the Château de Versailles, from the initial construction of a hunting
manor for Louis XIII up to the major restoration work carried out
in the 20 th and 21 st centuries. With original works of art, paintings,
sculptures, models and multimedia displays, this is an excellent
introduction to visiting the château.

• ROYAL FIREWORKS, THE TRIUMPH OF HANDEL

The Château de Versailles international music festival brings
back the festive and artistic atmosphere of yesteryear. This year
it will be celebrating the wonderful Handel, a composer of Italian
operas, oratorios and other ceremonial pieces. A succulent concert
programme will be matched by fi ve explosive evening shows that
blend fi reworks and water effects on the Grand Canal to the sounds
of two orchestral masterpieces performed outdoors: Water Music,
which premiered in 1717 on the Thames, and Music for the Royal
Fireworks composed in 1749. Don’t miss out on this delectable treat
at the château.
