This volume is comprised of a prologue, which covers the history of the bid process, and 28 chapters,
organized by program and functional area, which address in detail the preparations for the 1996
Olympic Games. For the benefit of future organizing committees, each chapter contains conclusions and
recommendations.
Ce volume comprend un prologue, qui couvre tout le processus de soumission de la candidature d'Atlanta,
et 28 chapitres, classés en fonction des programmes et domaines fonctionnels concernés, et indiquant en détail
comment les Jeux Olympiques de 1996 ont été préparés. Chaque chapitre comprend des conclusions et
recommandations destinées aux futurs organisateurs.
VOLUME II THE CENTENNIAL OLYMPIC GAMES
JEUX OLYMPIQUES DU CENTENAIRE
This volume is comprised of a prologue and three major sections. The prologue provides a description
of the city of Atlanta and its history. Section One begins with the arrival of the Olympic Torch to Los
Angeles, California, on 27 April 1996, and progresses as the Torch Relay moves across the US reaching
Atlanta 19 July, the day of the Opening Ceremony. This Torch Relay description is juxtaposed with Atlanta's
preparations for the Centennial Olympic Games during spring and summer 1996 and highlights
of Cultural Olympiad exhibitions and events prior to the start of the Games. Section Two is a day-byday
account of the Games, 19 July–4 August, with highlights of athletic achievements and descriptions
of cultural events, as well as details of Games-time operations. Section Three provides information on
the competition of each sport in the programme of the 1996 Olympic Games.
Ce volume comprend un prologue, qui décrit Atlanta et raconte son histoire, et trois grands chapitres. Le premier
débute par l'arrivée de la flamme olympique à Los Angeles, en Californie, le 27 avril 1996, et retrace le relais du
flambeau à travers les Etats-Unis jusqu'à son arrivée à Atlanta le 19 juillet, jour de la cérémonie d'ouverture des
Jeux. Cette narration est juxtaposée aux préparatifs menés par Atlanta au printemps et pendant l'été de 1996 en
vue des Jeux Olympiques du Centenaire, et indique les grands moments de l'Olympiade culturelle avant le début
des Jeux. Le deuxième raconte les Jeux, jour par jour, du 19 juillet au 4 août, et donne les moments forts des
épreuves sportives et des manifestations culturelles. Il donne aussi des détails sur l'aspect administratif des Jeux.
Le troisième fournit des informations sur les épreuves de chaque sport inscrit au programme des Jeux Olympiques
de 1996.
VOLUME III THE COMPETITION RESULTS

This volume is comprised of the detailed results for all athletes in all events. Also included as a reference
is a section on medal winners and record-setting performances arranged by sport and discipline, as well
as a section of venue maps for the major locations used during the 1996 Olympic Games.
Ce volume donne les résultats détaillés de toutes les épreuves sportives. Il comprend aussi, en tant que référence,
les médailles et les records par discipline sportive, ainsi qu'un chapitre consacré aux plans
des principaux sites utilisés pendant les Jeux Olympiques de 1996.
