Rather than allow engine movement<br />

to make off with precious amounts<br />

of torque, a Neuspeed torque mount<br />

was employed to ensure all is held<br />

tightly in place. To fully extract the<br />

performance his car was capable of,<br />

Lyonel handed the keys over to the<br />

competent tuners at Horizon Auto<br />

Tuners (HAT). Upon completion of<br />

the stage 2 in-house tuning, the car<br />

now has an output of 282bhp and<br />

410Nm of torque, as measured on a<br />

rolling road.<br />

Now, let me first admit that I’ve a<br />

thing for aftermarket brake kits hence<br />

it was of little wonder that what I<br />

first noticed when I laid my eyes on<br />

the car was its Brembo brake kit.<br />

Housed within 18” Advan RS rims,<br />

a set of Brembo RS5 8-pot callipers<br />

paired with 365mm cross-drilled<br />

discs provides all the stopping power<br />

Lyonel will ever need. A custom<br />

silver top coat was applied to the<br />

calipers, matching it perfectly with<br />

the black rims and white body of the<br />

GTI. Elsewhere, HAT undercarriage<br />

magic bars mated with a Eibach<br />

Pro System suspension kit worked<br />

their wonders in stiffening up the<br />

chassis and provided Lyonel with a<br />

sharper steering response as well as<br />

improved handling.<br />

Now that performance and ride<br />

characteristics have been improved<br />

on, Lyonel then decided that it was<br />

time to spruce up the interior and<br />

exterior of his ride. OSIR products<br />

were chosen for most of the<br />

aesthetic enhancements. These<br />

include a front lip with a carbon<br />

diffuser, side skirts with carbon<br />

inserts, carbon mirror covers and a<br />

carbon dashboard trim. Wrapping<br />

it all up (literally) are decals specially<br />

customised by JJ Decalhub which<br />

gives the car a stealthy black and<br />

white theme.<br />

Sprinting down the streets<br />

With the intention of building a daily<br />

driven car that provides occasional<br />

short bursts of fun, the power curve<br />

of Lyonel’s GTI fits the plan like a<br />

glove. In my humble opinion, this<br />

GTI, though not gut-wrenching quick,<br />

is the epitome of what a fun street<br />

ride should be like. 410Nm of torque<br />

from a quick spooling turbo, bits of<br />

carbon adorning the right pieces and<br />

extremely well mannered handling<br />

characteristics; what else can we<br />

possibly ask for?<br />
