Bigger than ever!
Our aim at CRC Speedshow has always been to
showcase the very best in motoring, motorcycling
and motorsport; and this year we have the best
representation yet of the automotive world in this
country. The 2012 show achieves some significant
milestones, with no less than 15 major new car
brands present as well as a strong representation
from the motorcycle fraternity. We’re pleased to
welcome back long standing exhibitors, and excited
to see displays from many first-time exhibitors,
including Holden, Honda and Harley-Davidson.
CRC Speedshow 2012 is the first time that we have
incorporated another show within our show. In Hall
One you’ll see the New Zealand Hot Rod Association’s
50th anniversary hot rod show. This will be a very rare
chance to see New Zealand’s best hot rods together
under one roof.
We’ve earned a reputation over the last 5 years for

New Zealand’s Greatest Show
on Wheels now in it’s 6th year!
From relatively small beginnings as a pure motorsport
show, CRC Speedshow has grown rapidly to encompass
all things automotive. We’ve always said “if it’s got
wheels and it moves, you’ll find it at CRC Speedshow”
and this year is no exception.
The very smallest and latest in transportation is
represented by the Kiwi-designed Yike Bike. Just
9.8 kilos when folded, it is small enough to fit in a
backpack. It is the smallest and lightest electric folding
motorcycle in the world. At the other end of the scale
we have a NZ Army Light Armoured Vehicle. Despite the
‘Light’ designation, this weighs in at nearly 20 tonnes in
full combat mode.
Motorsport is once again well represented, with race
vehicles from most forms of the sport. From the very
rare Cornis Indy Roadster dating from 1959, to JetBlack
- New Zealand’s challenger for the World Land Speed
Record, there are new, classic and unique race cars
to suit all fans. Rally fans will love the 1994 Escort
Cosworth Rally Car, fully rebuilt and in Monte Carlo
Rally winning livery. Once again you’ll be able to meet
the top drivers from both the NZV8 and V8 SuperTourer
series, Taupo 1,000 Offroad Race, D1NZ drifters, stock
cars, Speedway, GT Racing and more.
New cars are featured, over 15 brands with models
from the rare to the sublime. How about the 600bhp
Dodge Viper ACR, one of only 50 in the world? Perhaps
Honda’s new CRZ Coupe - great handling, fun and fuel
efficient is more to your taste? Preview Ford’s all new
Focus ST, powered by a unique 247hp/184kW version
of the 2.0-litre Eco-Boost 4 cylinder engine. Not to
overlook the latest offerings from BMW, Chevrolet,
Chrysler, Holden, HSV, Jeep, Mazda, Nissan, SsangYong
and Volvo. Prefer something low volume and handcrafted?
Take a look at the Fraser, Exocet and Venom
Roadsters, and test drive a Fraser Clubman at the show.

Motorcycles from iconic brands. Harley-Davidson,
Ducati, Husqvarna, Suzuki, Victory Motorcycles and
Yamaha mix it with accessories, clothing, classic
and race bikes, sidecars and more. Motocross fans
make sure you see the KTM SX-F 450 Factory Edition
Motocross Bike - it’s the only one in NZ - you’ll find it on
the Motomuck stand (72) in Hall 2.
Many exhibitors are running great competitions. There
are fabulous prizes to be won simply by calling at the
Ducati and Harley-Davidson stands. Also enter at the
TMG Yamaha stand in Hall 3 and be in to win the Yamaha
XC125 Vity - it’s one of the lightest and most agile 125cc
scooters in its class.
Whether you are a weekend warrior, a full time
professional or simply a DIY tinkerer, you’ll want
to spend plenty of time in Hall 2. Dozens of trade
sites offering the very latest in race suits, helmets,
bike riding apparel, brakes, suspension, car care,
instruments, engine parts, safety equipment and lots
more. CRC Speedshow special prices, great bargains
and plenty of advice from industry professionals.
Collectors will be spoilt for choice with a wide range of
automotive books and posters, paintings, memorabilia,
retro signs, scale models, merchandise and more. Race
a Scalextric slot car or get behind the wheel of the V8
simulators - Ford or Holden - you choose.
There’s a thrilling line-up of fun and excitement 3
times daily in the Ezybuy Live Action Arena, with Mini
Challenge Racing, StuntNZ motorcycle stuntman Nic
Kroeze and Peter Bell and the Drive Rush stunt team. At
1pm only each day don’t miss the D1NZ drift demo, plus
your only opportunity to see the Go Fast Jet Pack pilot
blast-off in New Zealand. Simply mind-blowing!

New cars
BMW return again showcasing this year their M-Sport
range; Chevrolet expose the 2013 Camaro ZL1 direct
from the USA in time for Speedshow.
Get a chance to see a prime example of the 631 hp Viper
exclusively at this year’s show. Owned by Sime Darby
Automobiles, which distributes Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep
and SRT in New Zealand, the Viper ACR is the only
example in the country, one of only two in this white,
red and black colour configuration and one of only 50
manufactured in the world. Powered by an 8.4-litre
aluminium V10 engine, the Viper has a top speed of 325
km/h (202 mph) and is famous for holding its September
2011 record as the fastest production car round the
Nurburgring Nordschleife.
Also from the team at Sime Darby, the Chrysler 300 SRT
is launched locally just days before CRC Speedshow.
Just 30 examples of the 392 cu. in. 470 hp 300 SRT
sedans are confirmed for New Zealand, so this is a great
chance to check out the 300’s new 6.4-litre hemi V8.
Apart from the Ken Block look-a-like World Rally car

Hot Rods
This year CRC Speedshow incorporates the NZ Hot Rod
Association’s 50th Anniversary National Hot Rod Show.
Two Auckland hot rod clubs – Glen Eden’s Harbour
City Rod Club and Howick’s Southside Streeters – are
the host clubs organising the special celebration of 50
years of hot rodding in New Zealand. CRC Speedshow
visitors can enjoy a trip back in time as the show
recognises the pioneering builders and fabricators
with prime examples of original hot rods and drag
racing cars from the ‘60s and ‘70s on display.
Of the 70 hot rods accepted for display, many were
completed just in time for the show, while many
others are existing vehicles which haven’t been shown
at national competition level before. It is indeed a
spectacular line-up.
When visitors enter Hall 1 and step onto the red
carpet of the ‘Boulevard of Dreams’ one of the first
cars to catch the eye is the stunning 1936 Ford coupe
owned by Howard and Carol Bond of Howick in
Auckland. The Bond’s world-class Ford coupe won
the 2012 street rod of the year title at an event earlier
this year.
Ian McNeill of Harbour City Rod Club, and NZHRA
Zone 2 (Auckland) director and hot rod show
chairman, says: “The ’36 coupe was built by Howard
Bond and is an all-steel Ford body with numerous
custom touches. The deep brandy-wine pearl paint
was prepared and applied by Cascade Autofinish and
it is a combination of the colour and the beautiful lines
that make the Bonds’ car a real eye-catcher.
The car was built over a five-year period and reflects
the professional image that hot rodding has garnered
in New Zealand.”
Take a few steps further down the red carpet and
gleaming bright under the floodlights is the 2011
NZHRA national championship winning custombuilt
1932 Ford cabriolet of Lance and Jackie
Crane; another trophy-winning car in a hall packed
full of hand-picked, stunning hot rods.
So how do you pick the winners in a show of this
calibre? Judging in a variety of categories is a keenlyanticipated
aspect of the NZHRA annual show, and
this year’s 50th anniversary show sees intense
competition among the invited clubs.
As Ian McNeill says: “There will be some tough
competition at this year’s show with the Bonds’
car being one of many recently-completed dream
machines. They will all be battling it out in a judging
environment and CRC Speedshow visitors also get to
vote for their favourite vehicle in the Protecta Classic
Insurance-sponsored peoples’ choice category.”
