Here at Illinois Racer - we're excited, happy and
a bit depressed all wrapped into one - possibly
what's causing my high blood pressure of late .
HAPPY BECAUSE .. . As our magazine has pro :
grassed over the past 17 months we are reaching out
much farther than first expected and were getting
very happy response not only throughout Illinois but
from advertisers In Iowa, Kentucky and Indiana . Our
subscribers hole from all over the U . S. including
Canada, California, Florida, Pennsylvania .
Massachusetts, Vermont, and many more, making us
extremely happy !
EXCITED BECAUSE , .. Our big race for local racers
from every track in the midwest to be held on the mile
at Springfield in September has prompted calls and
letters from everywhere already, and people are in .
forming us of their interest to help pull this off for the
Illinois fans and racers alike .
DEPRESSED BECAUSE .. . There are still a certain
number of advertisers within our pages who make it
extremely difficult for us to keep in existence . We
honestly do work this magazine as a "sideline
shoestring" that costs a tremendous amount to
operate. We please ask that you do your best to meet
your promises and obligations and help keep us going
and our readers even happier .
DEPRESSED EVEN MORE .,, Because a number of
authorities on "Springfield Racing" have been trying
to discourage us, on our planned event on the mile .
We've been called stupid, crazy, ignorant and worse
for ever imagining such a deal, mostly because of the
extreme high cost of such a show and the past ex .
perience and failures in attendance and resulting
firsonical losses. This has been especially dishearten .
Ing. because of the simple fact that we definitely are
not wealthy promoters and we're relying totally on
what we really believe the Illinois "local" fans will
support and pay to see . MORE of their own people
"Racin''' on the "mile ." OUTLAW LATE MODELS and
STREET CARS for the largest one day purse for Illinois
Dirt Racers !
So maybe we can do it! Maybe we can't! But if
you come, YII guarantee you you'll see more topnotch,
beautiful late model machinery than you've
seen in one place in Illinois before, coupled with some
of the closest, fastest racing you ever dreamed of!
And if it means anything to you cr not, take in can .
siderotion a couple weeks ago at Nazareth, PA, on
the mile, where the Outlaw Late Models invaded and
reached speeds of 140 m .p .h ., breaking ail track
records, and besting even the championship dirt car
times by a whopping 3 seconds !
So keep you're eyes open here! CAUSE TRACK
RECORDS ARE GONNA FALL! !
