This year, our Gala Show & Dance will benefit the Emeryville Celebration of theArts and Friends of Emeryville Child Development Center. All proceeds from this event will be donated to these organizations. Help AllegroBallroom support the 26th annual “Emeryville Celebration of theArts”, a month-long art exhibition that takes place each October. This free event featuring local artists has become a high-profile cultural attraction in the area and relies heavily on donations for funding. We will also be contributing to the Friends of Emeryville Child Development Center to help fund their art and music program. Allegro welcomes this opportunity to get involved and enhance its visibility as a member of the Emeryville community. Come and enjoy dancing, fine entertainment, and great refreshments in our beautiful Grand Ballroom. Patrik Gallineaux will return as our master of ceremonies, and we will start the evening with a ballroom dance lesson with Jeff Chandler. We will offer great dance performances, a special lineup of taxi dancers, a silent auction, prize drawings, and plenty of general dancing. The event starts at 7:30 PM and we will dance until midnight. General admission tickets are $20, and a special ticket for a VIP Champagne Reception with reserved table seating is $50. Latin Dance Extravaganza on June 30 Tytus Bergstrom and AllegroBallroom present “Latin Dance Extravaganza” on Saturday, June 30. This gala evening of dance will include amazing performances by Tytus Bergstrom and Li Wen Ang, Salsa Mania, theAllegro Formation Teams, and more. There will be plenty of general dancing as well. Please see the schedule for more details. Beginners Are Welcome at Allegro! We were all beginners once, too. All classes in the schedule that are marked with a ★ are perfect for beginners. Also, you don’t have to bring a partner. Just bring your enthusiasm and a smile, and you’ll meet plenty of friendly people here. News & Schedule • May / June 2012 The President’s Corner Outstanding Performances by Theresa L. Macbeth, President We have outstanding instructors here at Allegro. They have coached many students, who spent hours practicing and then went on to compete in the month of March. Several of the competitors were brought to my attention. In the San Francisco Open DanceSport Championships, the following Pro/Am couples placed First in many dances: Tytus Bergstrom with his student, Gabriella Maugeri, in the Junior I Division; Heintje Soriano and his student, Madison Frilot, in the Junior II Open Gold Division; and David Arnold and his students, Catherine Gallo and Frances Manning, in numerous divisions from Open Bronze through Full Silver. Heintje’s Formation Team also placed First in the Youth Formation Team category. At the U.S. Same-Sex Championships held in Philadelphia, Jeff Chandler’s students, Photis Pishiaris and Ron Jenkins, placed First in the Men’s Standard Division. Congratulations to all who placed in the competitions and to numerous others who competed! Congratulations to the students in the Visually Impaired Program who celebrated with a successful dance party on March 29. Our annual fundraiser will be benefiting the City of Emeryville. Please come out on Saturday, May 26 to show your support. Many instructors have donated their time in theform of private lessons forthe silent auction, and there will be many fabulous raffle prizes along with refreshments. Come out and dance with the many talented taxi dancers who will be there, and enjoy some wonderful dance performances. Be sure not to miss this fun and worthwhile event! Virginia Leon-Guerrero has resigned from her post on the Board of Directors. Louise Kirby has been appointed by the Board to fill Virginia’s remaining nine months of office. Virginia served on the Board of Directors for over five years, of which she was President for two years. We appreciate her long service and will miss her on the Board.
