Allegro Celebrates
Our 18th Anniversary!
Allegro has been in operation as a non-profit ballroom and dance club for
18 years. We are continually growing in both membership and dance floor space.
On September 23, 1994, the State of California named Allegro a bona fide, nonprofit
corporation licensed to do business, and Allegro has been actively serving its
members and community ever since. Dedicated to dance education and supporting
Bay Area and international communities, we have raised and donated more than
$380,000 to community charitable causes over the years.
Our 18th Anniversary Party, chaired by Theresa L. Macbeth, will be held
on Saturday, September 29. To demonstrate a sample of the diverse dance classes
at Allegro, we will have three dance lessons: an International Rumba class from

in the Main
Ballroom
with Tytus
Bergstrom,
assisted by Li
Wen Ang; a
Salsa class from 8:00-8:45 PM in the Grand Ballroom with Isabelle Rodrigues;
and an Argentine Tango class from 9:00-9:45 PM in the Grand Ballroom with
Julian Ramil, assisted by Claudia Lissette.
We will also have three
dynamic dance performances
at 10:30 PM: Tytus’ All Girls
Formation Team; an Argentine
Tango dance by Julian and
Claudia; and a Paso Doble by
Tytus and Li Wen.
Doors will open at 6:30 PM.
There will be dancing throughout
the evening from 7:00 PM until
midnight in all three ballrooms.
Refreshments will be available in
the Grand Ballroom from 8:30-11:00 PM.
Ticket prices through September 23 are $20 for members and $25 for
non-members. Beginning September 24, tickets prices will increase to $25 for
members and $30 for non-members. These prices include admissions to three
classes, three performances, general dancing, refreshments, door prizes for private
lessons, Anniversary souvenir pens,
and an Anniversary cake. Be sure to
purchase your tickets early to guarantee
attendance.

Allegro Brings Home Five Top Awards!

Every time I walk through the doors of
Allegro, a sense of happiness and well-being
overcomes me. I am greeted by many friendly
and happy faces. This is a place to leave our
everyday troubles behind: a chance to learn
dance from outstanding instructors and
to meet friends, both old and new, in a fun
environment.
Graham Olsen of Oakland and his girlfriend, Cinthya
Toledo of Hayward have been taking Garry Johnson’s
Thursday Salsa classes. On Thursday, July 12, Graham proposed
to Cinthya on Allegro’s Main Ballroom floor. What better place
to start a new beginning than at Allegro? Congratulations to
Graham and Cinthya on your new beginning.
Our very own Michael Eric Koptke and Chelsea
Farrah won the PRO RISING STAR SMOOTH title at
the International Grand Ball, held in San Francisco the last
weekend in July. Congratulations on this most prestigious
award. David Arnold competed a total of 118 times on the
dance floor with his four students (Catherine Gallo, Jeannie
Hazemoto, Frances Manning, Janice Tarrant), garnering
numerous first and second place awards. David won the
TOP TEACHER award, and his student, Catherine, won
the TOP 20 STUDENTS award. Hugh Chapman took
home the GOLD LEVEL TOP STUDENT award. Many
others competed and placed in first and second places. Allegro
instructors and students performed extremely well earning
Allegro the TOP STUDIO award! Congratulations and thank
you!
On June 27, certificates were awarded to students
who completed two consecutive series of Bronze I classes
with Michael Eric Koptke and Chelsea Farrah, coached
by Jeff Chandler, our American Style Program Director.
Congratulations!
Thank you to Anh Nguyen for chairing the successful
Seventh Annual Summer Showcase on July 21.
Congratulations to David Arnold for winning the TOP
TEACHER award. Thank you to all who participated.
There is much background effort in making Allegro what
it is today. The Board of Directors working in conjunction
with our Management plays a major role. Terrence Casey
has resigned from his seat, and Joe Schwennesen has been
appointed by the Board to replace him until the next election
in January 2013. Terrence served on the Board for two and a
half years. Thank you Terrence for your hard work.
Allegro will celebrate our 18th Anniversary on Saturday,
September 29. I hope all of you will come and join in the
success of 18 outstanding dance years. See you on the dance
floor!
