Derek and Donna Alderman in 2001 that when <strong>the</strong> Kudzu King “came<br />

<strong>of</strong>f his porch one eve ning to run <strong>of</strong>f <strong>the</strong>se trespassers, he walked only<br />

three feet before dying <strong>of</strong> a massive heart attack.”<br />

That was in 1961. Many years later, a reporter for Cope’s old newspaper<br />

visited <strong>the</strong> farm and spoke to its new owner. According to a 1993<br />

Journal- Constitution story, “when [<strong>the</strong> new own er] bought <strong>the</strong> place, he<br />

had found <strong>the</strong> strangest thing. The farmhouse—it was covered in<br />

kudzu.”
