<strong>Shaun</strong> McCarthy is the architect <strong>of</strong> an extractive industry simulation model, “Mendacia”.<br />
The tool is designed to demonstrate how strategies are impacted by multiple stakeholder<br />
objectives as participants role-play 20 organizations comprising <strong>of</strong> extractive industries<br />
companies. The model can simulate both conventional oil & gas and unconventional gas<br />
(shale gas) industries together with government and political opposition, media, social<br />
groups (NGOs) and a small number <strong>of</strong> third party stakeholders. In addition, a variety <strong>of</strong><br />
different operating environments, i.e., socio-political complexities in Africa, geo-security<br />
concerns in the Middle East, Eastern Europe and nationalist interests in Latin America,<br />
<strong>of</strong>fers participants unique insights into multiple stakeholder dynamics which underpin<br />
strategic objectives, media management and negotiations.<br />
