Shaun McCarthy is the architect of an extractive industry simulation model, “Mendacia”.
The tool is designed to demonstrate how strategies are impacted by multiple stakeholder
objectives as participants role-play 20 organizations comprising of extractive industries
companies. The model can simulate both conventional oil & gas and unconventional gas
(shale gas) industries together with government and political opposition, media, social
groups (NGOs) and a small number of third party stakeholders. In addition, a variety of
different operating environments, i.e., socio-political complexities in Africa, geo-security
concerns in the Middle East, Eastern Europe and nationalist interests in Latin America,
offers participants unique insights into multiple stakeholder dynamics which underpin
strategic objectives, media management and negotiations.
A published author - has contributed numerous articles to Jane’s Intelligence Review,
