2.3.1 Work package objectives and starting point of work at beginning of reporting<br />
period<br />
Henry Ruhl at NERC-NOCS leads WP3 activity. During <strong>Period</strong> 3, the main activities<br />
included updating the D11 and D13. The main activities/tasks of WP3 overall are<br />
3.a.1 – To update scientific objectives;<br />
3.a.2 - To participate in workshops with HERMES, EuroSITES, MERSEA/MyOcean,<br />
EUROCEANS;<br />
3.b.1 – To Update the generic parameters list;<br />
3.b.2 - To establish links between generic technology and scientific needs;<br />
3c - To define specific science modules.<br />
All of these objectives have been achieved to at least a basic level with refinements planned<br />
for <strong>Period</strong> 4.<br />

Task 3a) – Science objectives<br />
<strong>Activity</strong> 3a1: Update of scientific objectives<br />
This was first delivered in period 2 and was updated again during period 3 (D11) including<br />
literature review, input from workshops and feedback from the 2 nd period review. The process<br />
of linking the science objectives to science module design requirements began during <strong>Period</strong><br />
3. The regional implementation groups have been identified in WP1. A key topic of the All<br />
Regions Workshop was indeed to get updates on planning progress for each node from<br />
regional representatives. Breakout groups were set up to further encourage discussion of<br />
regional and site specific concerns. This information is being used to update implementation<br />
plans and identify areas where further input is needed in <strong>Period</strong> 4. NOCS and IFREMER also
