10:45 am – 12:00 pm HAIL TO THE THIEF: SPECTACULAR FRAUDS
COMMITTED AGAINST DENTISTS
[FOR DOCTORS ONLY]
Approximately 60% of dentists will be a victim of theft; of these victims, half will experience
theft a second time during their career. Dental office fraud is rarely acute; with chronic
occurrences thefts lasting for years. Mr. William (Bill) Hiltz will take you on a breathtaking tour
of frauds committed against Canadian dentists and specialists. Bill will open his case files to
examine the methods used to steal incredible amounts of money from unsuspecting dentists.
Participants will learn how to recognize the danger signs of fraud, steps to take when embezzlement
is suspected, and powerful one-time and low-time techniques that will greatly reduce
their susceptibility to being victimized.
SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 24, 2011
2:00 pm – 5:00 pm A METHOD OF CLASS II
ORTHODONTIC TREATMENT
A successful orthodontic treatment plan always includes consideration of appropriate anchorage
application, albeit minimum, moderate or maximum anchorage. Moreover, the lack of anchorage
often leads to less desirable or compromised treatment outcomes. The ideal illustration of anchorage
usage comes in the form of mini-screw implants during Class II treatment. Orthodontic
systems utilized in clinical practice include a diversity of appliances; however, not all permit
total control of the active and reactive components. In addition, patient compliance is often
needed to succeed in the treatment endeavor. Intra-oral anchorage points, such as mini-implants,
meeting the requirements of being immobile, biocompatible, easily usable, and independent of
patient compliance ideally fill this category of temporary anchorage devices and are without
doubt a very successful and necessary adjunct to our contemporary orthodontic armamentarium.
The purpose of this presentation is to enhance our present knowledge of anchorage use by
illustrating the application through a method of Class II malocclusion correction.
Learning objectives attained by attendees include:
Treatment planning prior to mini-screw implant utilization
Mini-screw implant application for maximum anchorage in Class II treatment
Understand placement guidelines of mini-screw implants
Combining mini-screw anchorage with fixed appliance therapy
Avoid complications
10:30 am – 11:15 am DIGITAL TECHNOLOGY IN ORTHODONTICS:
IMPLICATIONS FOR THE ORTHODONTIC TEAM MEMBER
Advances in orthodontic technology such as digital oral scanners, digital study models,
indirect bonding and customized brackets and wires have improved the efficiency of
orthodontic care delivery. The patient now spends less time in the chair and, frequently,
procedures that are considered unpleasant (taking impressions and placement of cheek
retractors) are minimized or eliminated altogether. The new technology has had a great
impact on the orthodontic staff member because the storage and retrieval of digital data is
easier and faster but on the other hand there is a steep learning curve for every new advance
in technology. This lecture will discuss the advantages and drawbacks of the use of digital
oral scanners that have started to replace traditional impressions in orthodontics. It will also
review the production of digital models, indirect bonding trays and protocols for indirect
bonding. I will also discuss examples of the application of digital technology in the treatment
of patients using custom-made brackets (eg. Insignia), custom-bent wires (eg. SureSmile) and
lingual appliances (eg. Incognito).
11:15 am – 12:00 pm “GOING GREEN” IN THE ORTHODONTIC OFFICE
Society is becoming increasingly aware of our impact on the environment and concerned
about the need to reduce our effect on the planet. Advertisers and the media can sometimes
complicate our efforts of “going green”. Where can we find reliable information? What
changes will make the greatest impact? Is it worth the effort? In this presentation, Dr. Roth
will share insights gained during his efforts to reduce the environmental impact of his private
practice. This will include the two most important things we can all do to help ensure a
better future for our environment.
3:45 pm – 5:00 pm WHAT WOULD THE IMPACT BE IF YOU COULD
INCREASE YOUR CONVERSION RATE?
Most professionals are not comfortable with the idea that their revenue is generated through
sales. Feel good, this thinking is perfectly consistent with your probable patients; they don’t
want to be sold either. In Orthodontics, delivering a patient focused consult will increase your
conversions without your patients feeling sold.
Help your patients make their treatment decision the way they like to make decisions. No selling
and no manipulation. Learn how to understand individual needs and wants by asking powerful
questions and listening with the intent to understand. You might be surprised to discover they
really don’t want to hear all that much about you. In short, help probable patients discover
what they want and then give it to them.
After this presentation, you will come away with:
Tools to help you understand what your patients value
Understanding the value of building a results generated, flexible and repeatable TC process
Strategies to overcome objections and potential patient concerns
Critical beliefs that will help you earn patient confidence
Knowing what it takes to earn a referral, and how and when to ask for them effectively.
This session will help you deliver a clear message consistent with your unique personality, culture,
and image... and equip you with the skills to have your patients say ‘YES’.
Auction. Make sure that you bid on some of the items
throughout the evening to raise money for the CFAO.
