Dear Member, 

Now that the festive season is all but a distant memory, it is 

time to look forward to stepping into Spring! With the days 

getting longer and the air becoming warmer we welcome you to 

the latest edition of Club life. 

Why not rediscover William Blake and JMW Turner at the 

Watercolours Exhibition at Tate Britain. Fancy something a bit 

more energetic? Then why not turn your hand to Clay Pigeon 

Shooting at the prestigious Holland and Holland shooting 

grounds. Not outdoorsy? Then our Football Dinner with 

Harry Redknapp is sure to excite. Entertain the whole family 

at The Great Easter Egg Trail, with games, puzzles and treats 

galore. Take your taste buds on a journey with a Vinous Tour of 

France, which promises to guide you through some of the most 

influential and famous wines of the many different regions. Kick 

off Derby Week in style with the Blues Brothers Tribute Night, 

with leading international act, Jake and Elwood and their 

amazing Black Rhino Band. 

Business life continues its success into 2011. Highlights include 

Lunch With Ben Elliott, co-founder of Quintessentially; The 

Breakfast Club with Britain’s former Ambassadors to Greece, 

Spain and Ireland. Finally there is a brand new addition to the 

programme In Conversation with Peter Mandelson; a unique 

and intimate opportunity to hear Lord Mandelson’s insights on 

government and power. 

At the back of your brochure you will find a reminder and 

any updates to the booking and cancellation policies. The 

cancellation period is 14 days prior to the date of the event 

taking place. Please note that any places cancelled within this 14 

day period will be charged in full to your membership account. 

Our new innovation is online booking on our new-look website, 

which is now live and ready to use. For more information, 

please see the back page in this edition of Club Life. 

In line with other facilities and services offered by the Club, 

events are subsidised for all those who attend. A number of 

years ago the Board agreed that, in order to stimulate the thennew 

events programme, the first guest of each member would 

be charged at the member rate. It has now been agreed that this 

additional discount should no longer apply, and from 

1 April 2011 all non-member guests will be charged at the 

guest rate.

Dennis Taylor

Snooker legend, Dennis Taylor, is 

best known for winning the 1985 

World Snooker Championships,

in a final described as one of sport’s 

greatest. Renowned for his Irish

trick shots in the Billiards Room,

Madam Butterfly returns to the Royal 

Albert Hall in this spectacular in-theround 

production. Set in Japan at the 

turn of the 20th century, this is a tale 

of doomed love between an American 

naval lieutenant and his young Japanese 

bride. Puccini’s tragic masterpiece will 

take place in an enchanting Japanese 

water garden where Madam Butterfly’s 

house is perched on stilts. Directed by 

renowned opera and theatre director 

David Freeman with Oliver Gooch 

conducting the Royal Philharmonic 

Orchestra.

Club Ski Weekend 

2 – 6 March 

As Winter is in full swing now is 

the time to get thinking about your 

next ski holiday. This year the Club 

has organised a trip to visit the 

alpine village of Samoens, part of 

the Grand Massif region. This is the 

fourth largest ski area in France and 

benefits from some 265km of pistes. 

With transport within the resort 

provided, as well as a complimentary 

ski guide, you’ll be able to make the 

most of the extensive skiing on offer. 

The weekend will include Swiss Air 

flights, four nights’ accommodation 

in a luxury chalet, gourmet meals

Fountain, followed by the fabulous 

full buffet lunch and ending with an

on one of our private coaches that

February to May is set to be a fun few months for Woodcote Juniors. Don’t freeze in February or mope around 

in March when the start of 2011 is packed full of activities and events to get you going for the new year. 

From multi sport camps for children of all ages, to training in racket sports for all levels of ability and one-on-one 

lessons to really focus your talents, there’s every reason to get a wiggle on. If you’re only a beat away from 

Fame academy and finding your dancing feet, get toe-tastic with our ballet and tap classes. 

There’s fun for all the family too with our spring events. With a chef’s hat on your head and a handful of sparkly 

toppings, it’s yum and fun combined on Pancake Day. or follow the trail to find the easter bunny and a chocolate 

treat, with games, puzzles and nursery rhyme characters along the way. egg-y, steady, go…here comes spring!

them, decorating them and of course eating them!

Come to the Club and step back through the times, 

and follow our trail, themed on nursery rhymes. 

Meet lots of characters throughout your day, with 

games and puzzles along the way. Find Three 

Blind Mice and see how they run, then find Jack 

and Jill and have more fun! The Owl and the Pussy 

Cat will be there too, and then at the end there’ll 

be a treat for you! Join us again for this popular 

annual children’s event in the Easter holidays. 

Children will make their way around the trail 

meeting characters along the way and finish by 

meeting the Easter bunny in person.

There were over 

1200 people at Woodcote Park enjoying 

the spectacular fireworks display in sync 

with music that lasted over 20 minutes. 

Members and their guests enjoyed rides 

and activities on the Cedar Lawn and the 

weather was definitely in our favour!

or e-mail within 3 working days. This details everything you 

need to know about your booking. Please read it carefully

event and have not had a response after 5 working days. 

Please note if there is no child price under the event, this is 

to indicate that the event is unsuitable for anyone under the 

age of 18. 

Please note, all guests must be accompanied by a full 

member. 

Cancelling an Event 

To ensure that as many members and their guests are able 

to enjoy the events programme, please make any necessary 

cancellations as soon as possible in writing, via email, letter 

or fax so that the Events Team can contact other members 

who have requested to attend. 

We operate a strict 14 day cancellation policy prior to 

the date of the event taking place (with the exception of 

Ladies Day and Derby Day events which have a one month 

cancellation period prior to the date of the event taking 

place). 

We will endeavour to re-sell your places if we have a waiting 

list, however if the event is not sold out, your account will 

be charged in full. 

Owing to a noticeable increase in the number of last minute 

cancellations, we are forced to impose strict adherence to 

this policy to ensure the Club does not absorb any losses.
