When Apple unveiled the original
iPhone in 2007, our heads immediately
started buzzing with all of the
automotive possibilities. Since then, the
industry witnessed everything from cars
remotely driven by Apple’s smart phone
to an array of accelerometer-based
apps that provide accurate 0-60 and
quarter-mile times. While all cool, few
gave users a peek inside the ECU. The
engineers at Innovate Motorsports
went above and beyond with the new
OT-2, an interface allowing users to
transform their iPhone into a wireless
gauge, data logger, efficiency meter,
dyno and OBD-II scanner.

The system is a must-have for
anyone struggling to master their
own tuning. The OT-2 works by
plugging into a vehicle’s OBD-II port.
Once installed, it wirelessly transmits
data from any of the vehicle’s sensors
straight to the iPhone, iPod Touch or
PC. Users can select any number of
channels to monitor simultaneously.
Since the OT-2 is capable of data
logging at up to 12 times per
second, the OT-2 leaves nothing to
miss.
The kit also enables the use of the
company’s performance meter. It
providing accurate 0-60 times and a
horsepower calculator and timers for
1/8 mile and 1/4 mile runs using the
iPhone G-sensors and information
from the OBD-II data.
The Innovate Motorsports piece also
includes a handy efficiency meter
that keeps track of a number of
parameters. With the OT-2,
information like miles-per-gallon and
gallons-per-minute are just a tap of
your iPhone screen away. Even more impressive, the OT-2 can read trouble
codes and wirelessly clear them, saving you the hassle of having to run by a
shop or the expense of buying a scanner tool.
Given everything the OT-2 system is capable of, one might expect a pretty steep
price tag. However, Innovate Motorsports priced the kit at $179. The LogWorks
mobile software can also be downloaded for free from the App store, allowing
the use of both the performance and efficiency meters.
The OT-2 is the latest in Innovate Motorsports Modular Tuning System line up,
which means current MTS users will be able to jump right in with the new
iPhone-compatible technology.
