What do you
love about
fashion? When
did you first
get interested
in clothes?
I love that fashion is a
creative expression.
Watching designers
take their ideas from
concept to collection
is always exciting. My
mom said I started telling her how to dress
when I was six.
Who are your style icons?
Françoise Hardy and Kate Moss. I also love
Audrey Tautou—she has such a classic but
feminine look.
What inspires you (and ultimately,
your style)?
I am inspired every day by the women in New
York. I am constantly looking at what people
wear and how they put things together.
Women around the World folloW
your style or try to emulate it.
is that a lot of pressure? does it
impact the Way you get dressed?
I don’t dress for anyone but myself and maybe
my husband. I have to like the way I feel when
I walk out the door. Dressing for others never
works! You should stick to what you feel good
in. What people really want to emulate is
confidence—that’s what style is really about.
What are the most important
trends for spring 2012?
I would say white, elements of sport, pastel
colors and bold prints.
What are the five must-have pieces
for spring 2012?
Just five? That’s tough but I’d say a colorblocked
sandal, a silk button-down, a wide-leg
trouser or denim, a small cross-body bag and a
lightweight moto jacket.
What are the “investment” trends
that Will last beyond spring?
Metallic, white and neutrals always resurface
for Spring, so well-cut pieces in those hues are
smart buys.
What are some good styling tips
for the readers? What are some
of your surefire tricks to alWays
make the best dressed list?
Invest in at least one standout accessory per
season. Start with basics and add trendy items
around them. Buy a really chic lightweight trench
or longer blazer to layer over dresses for days
when you can’t find anything to wear.

closet, or is there a piece from the
spring collection you like?
The printed dresses at the end of the show were
so pretty. 28 was my favorite; it made me want
to book a trip somewhere sandy.

love about
fashion? When
did you first
get interested
in clothes?
I have always been
interested in clothes
for as long as I can
remember; I loved
that I could express
my personality through
my wardrobe. I think I
really started to love
fashion when I was very young, watching my
mother get ready to go out to events and parties.
I would sit on my mother’s bed, watching her put
together amazing outfits with the most beautiful
clothes and accessories.
Who are your style icons?
Natalie Wood and Ali MacGraw.
hoW Would you define your
personal style?
Classic minimalist.
What inspires you (and ultimately,
your style)?
Museums and art, music, interiors and home
décor, designers, travel and films.
What’s your favorite Way to shop—
retail, e-commerce or personal
stylist?
Definitely retail—I need to go into the store, try it
on, feel the fabric, etc.
What are the most important
trends for spring 2012?
’50s, under the sea, tribal, sport, digital prints and deco.
What are the five must-have pieces
for spring 2012?
A peplum jacket, a drawstring bag, a ladylike
shoe (sling-back, pointy-toe, etc.), a jeweled
drop earring and an elongated pencil skirt.
What are some good styling tips
for the readers? What are some
of your surefire tricks to alWays
make the best dressed list?
The best styling advice is to always dress from
the bottom up. Pick your shoes first. Choose
them based on what you are doing, weather
and where you are going. Think about it: you
can’t wear your favorite pony sandals in the rain.
So start there and build your outfit around your
shoes. If you feel good and are comfortable in
what you’re wearing, that will show through,
always landing you on a Best Dressed list.
Confidence is key.
do you have any favorite

closet, or is there a piece from the
spring collection you like?
I loved the sport-chic feel of the Spring show. I am
not a “sporty” girl, but this sporty I love with all the
super-sophisticated silhouettes and bold colors.

Everyday occurrences
from nature to art. The
streets of New York
City provide endless
inspiration.
Who are your
style icons?
Foreign film stars from the
’60s, particularly Monica
Vitti and Jane Birkin.
hoW Would you define your personal
style?
My personal style is classic but never perfect, and
always with a touch of masculinity. I’m definitely a
pants girl: no frills.
What do you love about fashion?
When did you first get interested in
clothes?
Fashion to me encompasses so much more than
just clothing: art, film, pop culture, psychology and
history. It really began with making clothes for my
dolls and developing an appreciation of vintage
fabric and clothing.
What do you love about
bcbgmaXaZria?
It’s always easy to wear and is consistently stylish
without being overtly trendy.
What are the most important trends
you saW in spring runWay shoWs?
Bold tribal prints, floral with an athletic twist, retro ’50s
and the white shirtdress in different variations.
trends seem to be cyclical. is there
anything fresh this season?
This season’s interpretation of floral prints feels new
because it’s a much more modern take: digitized
florals and the juxtaposition of using athletic fabrics.
a lot of our readers, like you, are
juggling kids and demanding jobs.
What’s a practical Way to spend
this season and still incorporate
trends?
Invest in pieces that can be incorporated into each
trend and use accessories to pull it all together.
When it comes to some of the
more avant-garde trends We see in
magaZines, many don’t adapt Well to
a Woman’s personal style. Why do
magaZines mainly seem to feature
couture-type clothing that most
Women Will never buy?
Magazine editorials appear unrealistic because they
are meant to be fantasy (like going to the movies)
and should be regarded as art. It’s always about the
architecture and engineering behind the dress, not just
the dress in front of you.

lifestyle. What are your travel
Wardrobe essentials?
I rely on a uniform of skinny jeans, superfine tees,
cashmere sweaters, blazers and flat boots.

collection?
The collection was inspired by the busy woman
who wants to be fashionable but is stylish rather
than trendy. It has an athletic feel to it while still
maintaining some femininity.

Wearing?
C o l o r f u l t h i n g s ! I
love coral and blue,
especially. I’m also
really into shorts, skirts
and short dresses;
easy, flow-y things.
What’s your model-on-duty look?
I always go for dark colors. A dark top with a
black leather jacket is my signature, especially
with leggings and a heavy shoe.
What’s going to be your big
splurge
for spring?
Colorful shoes and bags are always something
I want to splurge on!
after shooting our spring
campaign, What are your must-have
pieces?
The blue-green long, flowing dress and the tribal
sandals that tie around the ankle.
What’s your signature look for
special events? do you have any
styling tips?
My signature look for special events would have
to be a short dress, definitely with high heels.
I try to have a balance when I dress up. If my
outfit is colorful, I will wear more simple shoes
and vice versa. For accessories, I like to wear a
watch and some earrings that complement my
dress and I will also always wear a unique clutch
for the final touch.

Amsterdam-based paper artist ingRid
SiliakuS brings us these magnificent cityscapes
cut out of paper in her Paper Architecture
series. While some of Siliakus' sculptures
appear like 3D blueprints for a real city, others
are far more surreal with the endless alignment
of stairs and upside-down skylines. If you are
in the Netherlands, you can see many of the
artist's works on exhibition at Erve Kots until
February 29, 2012.

Denmark boasts
the Rainbow

circular, panoramic
walkway constructed
on the roof of
the ARoS Museum.
This permanent
installation was
inspired by Dante’s
