Suspension-Tuning Guide

Setting up a car for maximum performance is a challenging process of getting the most out of your time,

money, and talent. The following suspension-tuning guide is a great tool that was put together by some of

the best suspension tuners in the business. Tons of testing and a lot of money was spent to pull all of this

information together. This suspension-tuning guide will help you achieve your goal, save you time and

money, and make modifying your Porsche a fun experience.

The suspension-tuning guide is separated into different years depending on the year of the original

chassis. Then we categorized four different car types for each block of years: street, street/track, track,

and GT.

Street: This car is, or could be, your everyday driver. The upgrades are to help make the car more

responsive and quicker in the corners while retaining a smooth and enjoyable ride.

Street/Track: If you use the car for performance driving and occasional street driving you’ll enjoy these

upgrades. Great for time trial, auto-x, or fun backroad driving.

Track: Now you’re probably not going to drive this car on the road often. These items are intended for the

production-based classes that limit the chassis modifications and suspension pick-up points. This level of

car is a blast on the track and fun to build.

GT: There is nothing like the thrill of driving a GT level car - lightweight with awesome corner speed. Here

are the parts you’ll need to compete at the front of club racing or pro racing.

We recommend to first determine your goal. Do you want a fast streetcar? When will you use it most?

How stiff of a suspension can you handle? What is your budget? If you come up with a plan before you

start the project you’ll get the job done faster without spending more time and money than you want.

Determine what the car will be in the future so you don’t waste money upgrading the same part more than

once. Let our knowledgeable staff help you with your project.

4 Wheel Toe Alignment System

SmartStrings 4 wheel toe alignment kit. We now

have what we believe to be the best and most

universal way to quickly perform accurate four-wheel

alignments on virtually any car anywhere.

Why SmartStrings? The number one design premise

was to allow all four wheels to be aligned with one

simple, accurate, portable and affordable tool. Just so

you know, some of the fastest cars in the world -

including Indy style cars, 200 mph road racing cars

and NASCARs are aligned with strings (or wire in

some cases).

As with our SmartCamber gauge, SmartStrings were

designed to be used on as wide a variety of cars as

possible; it's telescoping design in all three planes

assures that. The attaching or hooking features on the

Attaching Arms have also been carefully thought out to

be as versatile as possible.

Unlike nearly all other toe measuring gauges on the

market today, our SmartStrings allow you to

simultaneously align and “square” the car, that is,

insure that the rear axle is running true and parallel to

the front axle. Also, since our strings attach to the car,

they move with the car so when adjustments are made,

the vehicle can be rolled to settle the settings without

the worry or bother of the gauge having to be

recalibrated. Since you can adjust all four wheels

relative to one another, you can set the car up however

you like, or however track conditions require. Properly

installed, the parallel strings form a perfect

parallelogram around the car’s own centerline!

Combined with our SmartCamber camber/caster tool,

you can perform a full four-wheel alignment and know

for yourself that the numbers are correct and to your

individual needs or liking.

911 camshafts are an advanced cam capable of high

performance and smooth operation. His cams are made on new

billets, not a welded regrind. They are a large journal, bolt style

cam with a drive on the left cam for mechanical fuel injection,

and a drive on the right for a power steering pump. The large

journal billet is an advantage in keeping the cam straight and the

base circles large.

930 Turbo Boost Surge Filter

1976-1989

Violent engine surges during quick gear

changes are annoying and dangerous. If

your turbo has been shimmed for more

boost, sudden pressure surges within

the manifold may cause intermittent fuel

cutoff. In turn, this leads to violent

engine vibration and an alarming drop in

power. In the past, some people “solved”

the problem by grounding the cutoff

control wire. But this defeats the safety

protection of the overboost system and

can lead to destruction. The solution is

not to bypass but control the cutoff

switch. We’ve measured the amplitude

and timing of these surges and built a

filter that controls pressure spikes,

resulting in smooth power and more

driving fun.

Adjustable Low Oil Pressure Switch

Low oil pressure is dangerous to all

engines, especially 911’s. We have

found that under more extreme

conditions, the factory switch indicates at

too low a pressure and connecting rod

bearing damage can occur in seconds.

The beauty of this pressure switch is that

you can adjust the point at which the

light comes on. In our cars, we have it

set so the light comes on when the

engine is warm and idling. The

adjustment range is from 14 to 25

pounds. Fits on virtually any engine.

For those wanting to move the oil tank to

the front of the car, our oil tank is an

easy solution. It fits directly in the air

conditioning well with two modest

modifications, literally installs with simple

hand tools. Comes with detailed

instructions and accessory parts list (oil

line parts) with sources. The oil supply

lines to the engine should be -20 and oil

return lines from the engine through

coolers to tank should be -16. Be sure to

include the inner support coil for the

supply lines #152210 (this page).

Cut-off Switch

In a hard accident, if the driver is

unconscious or unaware, ruptured fuel

lines can spray pressurized fuel with

potentially bleak consequences. Oil

pressure activated switches will not shut

off the fuel pump if the engine continues

to idle. We have tested these switches

on a G production, GT4 and a 962

without a single miss-trip. A smart and

915 Transmission Side Cover

For a long time Windrush have recommended the use of the

915.301.311.3R style 915 side cover. This later version of the

side cover had the highest stiffness and offered the highest

performance solution for managing the separation load of the

Crownwheel and Pinion gear assembly. The earlier aluminum

and magnesium side covers – while lighter are less stiff and

prone to cracking and failure under extreme conditions. Once

quite inexpensive, the 915.301.311.3R have become more

costly and difficult to obtain as a new replacement part.

Windrush elected to produce the 915 Side Cover, a billet side

cover with the stiffness of the 915.301.311.3R and the

additional benefit of a larger differential carrier bearing on the

cover side – copying the bearing configuration of the 930

transmission.

This side cover can be used with any 915 transmission from

1972 –1986 except those with the side cover oil pump

installation.

Woodward, this unit is designed to fit into

any ‘89 and earlier 911 using the factory

aluminum cross member or ERP’s 935 style

cross member (ERP mounting kit available

separately). These units are unmatched in

their design and build quality. One of its

most ingenuous features is, the amount of

power assist is adjustable by simply

removing and installing one of 15 differently

sized torsion bars — the result is assist

amounts can range from hardly noticeable

to full finger tip assist! Why power steering?

Today’s ‘89 and earlier 911’s are going

faster and faster due to increased grip from

advances in shock and tire technologies

along with high amounts of aero downforce

— putting a higher and higher demand on

the driver’s strength. Coupled with the high

caster angles, wider rims with considerable

offsets, steering efforts have gone through

the roof. Driver fatigue is often associated

with a heavy steering car. Even more stock

cars benefit from it because it is less

strenuous for the driver, even in short sprint

races. Remember, starting with the ‘89

C4’s, Porsche has run power steering on

every car it has since built; even the entire

range of 996 GT3R’s and Cup cars. Uses

factory 930 style tie rods, tie rod ends and

boots or ERP tie rod bump steer kits — all

available separately.

Factoids: Fits 911’s, 930’s and 914’s with

some minor body modifications. Designed

to be powered by an electric power steering

pump mounted in the front trunk area along

with a small fluid reservoir. Specific

universal joints are available to adapt it to

the factory steering shaft; requires welding.

The ERP kit benefit is adjustability.

Camber, caster, track width, even wheel

base and width are adjustable. The kit

uses an ERP monoball and its own

cross member to mount the arms and

steering rack; additionally, the arms are

911 enthusiasts and racers lower,

stiffen, and gumball their cars in search

of more stick, better handling, and lowdown

good looks. The problem is their

efforts rarely work as well as they might

because suspension systems are just

that—systems. For best results,

everything has to work together.

Racers often miss the fact that the fast

cars usually go down bumpy tracks with

bodies that stay still and suspension that’s

visibly working hard. The same is true on

the street. A car that can keep its tires up

close and personal with the pavement

generates more grip and inspires the

crucial driver confidence necessary to

take advantage of it. When a too-stiff car

gets unsettled over bumps, two things

happen. The chassis is unweighted, which

reduces the grip of the tires, and its driver

loses confidence. But it doesn’t have to

be that way, as the new GT2 and GT3

show that incredible handling and good

ride quality can be achieved at lowered

Key to getting it right is dialing in the

shock absorbers. Go over a bump and

your suspension system allows each road

wheel to move up and back down to

minimize the bump’s effect on the chassis.

Said suspension is usually attached to a

spring (or torsion bar) that reacts to

upward movement by trying to return the

suspension to its original position. But

you’ve got to control (or dampen) the

spring oscillations or your car will hobbyhorse

its way down the road like a

clapped-out Ford Fairmont.

Any suspension system is a study in

compromise, but good control results

from proper rebound and compression

damping. Compression is what happens

when a road wheel meets a bump and

sends the lower half of a shock upward

(compressing it). Rebound damping

controls how fast and easily the shock

allows the spring to return to “normal.”

Worn-out or ultra-soft shocks will allow

the springs to oscillate several times from

a single bump, yielding a wallowing

freeway ride and insane body roll in the

corners. Go too stiff and you may control

the roll, but even the smallest bumps will

be punishing.

Altering the internal valving inside of

gas-pressurized or oil-filled shocks allows

you to change the resistance, making it

either easier or harder for the shock piston

to move inside its body. Some shocks are

non-adjustable, so you take what you get

or disassemble them for revalving. Others

are single- or double-adjustable. The

former allows you to make them stiffer or

softer, but there’s no differentiation

between rebound and compression

damping — a serious compromise that

double-adjustable shock absorbers avoid.

In an ideal world, someone would

make double-adjustable shocks that can

be quickly adjusted. And someone does.

The first time I got a chance to spend

some time with them was on Jeff Hayes’

3.8-liter 914-6 racer (Excellence

November, 2002), which ran on a set of

JRZ-made units. One of the fastest NA

club racing Porsches in the ultra-quick

SoCal scene, this 914 is capable of lap

times in the 1:24 range, hitting 155 mph

before braking into Turn 9 at Willow. But

instead of having rock-hard suspension,

the full-tilt Six shocked me by how

compliant it was on the street. It rode even

better than my own mildly tuned 914!

Unfortunately, the double-adjustable,

remote-reservoir JRZs are costprohibitive.

“Remote reservoir,” by the

way, means the gas-pressurized chamber

is separate from the shock body and

connected by a hose. Less unsprung

weight and an ability to mount the canister

for more accessible adjustments are but

two advantages. However, a set of JRZs

for the 911 easily runs $4,000-5,000.

Other brands, such as Penske, are even

more expensive and still require

adaptation to work on Porsches.

So when Craig Watkins of Smart

Racing Products in Campbell, California

called to invite us to join him for testing a

prototype remote-reservoir shock that he

plans to offer for significantly less money,

we were interested. Even better was his

plan to use the same 911 to test four

different shock setups in one day. Pro

racer Johannes van Overbeek would

establish formal lap times while I gathered

my own observations. Watkins’ claim

wasn’t small, either: His new shock

absorbers might shave several seconds

a lap when compared to off-the-shelf

Bilstein Sports—which are pretty highly

regarded shocks in their own right.

Our test bed is a familiar favorite among

911 fans, the 911 SC. It’s a dedicated

track car, but it’s not far from street-car

specs because the class it races in,

Porsche Club of America’s G-class,

requires it to remain largely stock.

Engines, transmissions, bodywork, and

interiors are all tightly regulated while

suspension modifications are limited, too.

Our car, owned by friendly paintless dentremoval

specialist Stuart Ward, has

4) 3.0-liter engine looks largely stock because

it is largely stock, as required by club racing

class rules. With so many easy speed mods

restricted, gaining whole seconds from

something as simple as new shocks would

be a boon.

the third suspension setup, which is how

Ward races his 911 SC.

cleaned up in G-class racing, winning the

majority of the races he enters.

His 1978 SC uses the same 23- and 30mm

torsion bars, 27-mm anti-roll bars, and

16x7- and 16x9-inch Fuchs that everybody

else uses. Since all G-class cars have to

meet minimum curb weight, there’s no

advantage to cubic-money weight loss,

either. It’s little surprise that his car’s

compression ratio, cylinder capacity,

gearing, and curb weight have all been

protested, checked, and cleared. But he

keeps winning. While his success is clearly

down to skill, he’s quick to point out what

he feels is his secret advantage: carefully

revalved Bilstein shocks.

So, on a cool spring day at Sonoma’s

Infineon Raceway (aka Sears Point), we’ll

see if he and Watkins are right.

#1: Bilstein Heavy Duty Shocks

Ward’s SC feels like a nice, honest

spec racer—sort of a Porsche man’s Spec

Miata. With great shifting, solid brakes, and

a flat torque curve, this lightened SC is

particularly sweet to drive. Everything

about it is immediate; it’s more RS 2.7 than

With great shifting, solid brakes, and a flat torque curve, this lightened

911 SC is particularly sweet to drive. Everything is immediate. . .

Carrera 3.2. And like any early 911, you

need to drive it. The only PSM is Personal

Stability Management, but the trade-off is

a 911 that’s positively alive in your hands.

The car feels light—too light in some

cases. It’s hairy coming into Turn 2, a blind

uphill right-hander that unloads the

suspension as you crest at the apex.

Coming over the rise, the car is unsettled

and, heading down a short hill to Turn 3’s

left-handed uphill kink, the suspension

unloads and then loads up big-time in the

dip. You go from no grip to big grip, fast.

So the car feels planted only when the

track is smooth.

Bumpy pavement down the center of

Turn 6 — a long, cambered downhill lefthander

called Carousel — has the chassis

bobbing up and down, lightly affecting

grip. At speed and loaded up, those small

oscillations are unsettling enough to keep

me from probing deeper. Coming down

the long, kinked front straight and heading

into a slight uphill left-hand turn, I’ve got

to trust the tires’ grip rather than the car’s

handling — which is scary enough to limit

my entry speed significantly. I leave lap

times to van Overbeek, who sets a

benchmark lap time of 1 minute, 56.50

seconds — which is pretty quick for a 3.0liter

911 around Infineon’s 2.52-mile

course.

“The car is overly sensitive to trailingthrottle

oversteer and, in transitions, the

shocks are not fast enough to keep up

with the car,” observes van Overbeek later.

“In Turn 2, it feels like there’s not enough

droop. And a lack of rebound makes it

pitch-happy under braking.”

Stuart Ward, curious to drive his SC on

“stock” shocks, heads out next and

confirms the same nervousness: “In the

transitions between Turns 3 and 4

(downhill left-hander to uphill righthander),

it doesn’t feel comfortable. It feels

like the rear end wants to come out...it

feels a bit hairy.” By now, Ward and

Watkins have all four wheels off, diving

into what amounts to a full suspension

swap—in a parking lot. An heroic hour

later, we’re ready to roll.

#2 Revalved Bilstein Sport Shocks

One rarely has the chance to drive the

same car with revised shock rates, back-

to-back in one hour, but that’s the benefit

of Watkins’ and Ward’s hard work. We’re

on Bilstein Sports again, but they’ve been

revalved by Watkins, who charges about

$100 per shock to revise compression and

rebound valving.

The difference is startling, as the 911

suddenly feels like it has bridged 10 years

of the age gap. It’s more predictable and

planted everywhere, especially going into

ultra-fast Turn 1. It’s better in quick

transitions as well, now feeling almost

chuckable. Around Turn 2, the 911 sticks

better over the hump, letting me get on

the gas sooner. Nor is the Carousel’s

lumpy pavement the worry it once was.

Now the chassis stays still while the

suspension absorbs the bumps instead of

trying to beat them into submission,

unloading the tires in the process. Braking

is improved, too, as the tires feel better

connected. These observations are borne

out by van Overbeek’s lap time, which is

nearly two seconds faster than before, at

1:54.61!

“I can put the power down with much

more confidence,” says van Overbeek.

Ward changing back to 16x6s and 16x7s before packing his SC club racer back into

the trailer at the end of the day.

“Coming out of every corner, I didn’t

have to worry about twitchy oversteer. It

just hooked up and went. It also felt a lot

more stable and it may even be putting

more grip down, as I’m now hitting the

bump stops.” Ward skips the chance to

drive his SC in this configuration, as it’s

close to how he races it.

#3 A Slight Rear-End Tweak

Our next setup is how Ward races his

SC, and it only requires a rear-shock swap.

Van Overbeek is out first and turns in a

lap time of 1:53.79 — nearly a full second

better than his previous time. “It’s much

more predictable,” he relates upon

returning to the paddock. “You can put

the power down and know where it’s going

to go.”

The difference in lap times indicates

that this is a smaller gain and it feels that

way when I go out. The SC feels more

neutral and thus combines the second

setup’s predictability with a bit of the first

setup’s willingness to rotate. In highspeed

corners, I’m simply not willing to

pitch the car and get on the gas, as I know

Johannes is doing to eek out those final

tenths. I might be quicker on the last setup

than this one — until I know the chassis

better. For me, this tweak remains the

hardest to perceive — letting me know it

affects the performance envelope at the

edge.

But that such a change in handling

dynamics can be had without tweaking

spring rates, anti-roll bars, or tire

pressures is astonishing. If Watkins is

right, however, the best is yet to come...

#4 Remote-Reservoir Prototypes

Johannes goes out first on the

prototype SRP/Fox shocks to get a

representative time. He comes burning

into the pits with a 1-minute, 52.03second

lap. Time is getting tight, so I skip

the interview and buckle in for what turns

out to be my best drive of the day. The

car is immediately more predictable

through Turn 2’s uphill right-hander.

Heading over the hump and carrying a lot

of speed into the valley-like, left-handed

Turn 3, the SC’s weight transfer is better

controlled and allows more confidence to

attack the following downhill, off-camber

turn called 4A. From there, it’s a fast ride

to the Carousel. Pushing the chassis hard

on my first lap out, the steering weights

up nicely and I’m tracking out of the turn

with more confidence. My pace seems

suitably quicker, too.

Hard into fourth gear before braking

into the hairpin turn made up by 7 and 8,

I can’t help but think of how nice the ride

quality is all of a sudden. I scold myself

for my street-car paradigm as I turn in and

then head on for a few more laps. It’s only

driving into the pits that I realize that,

because the car is riding better, it’s dealing

with bumps better and keeping its tires

more evenly loaded — which ultimately

provides more grip. Johannes noticed that

trend with our second setup, but the

remote-reservoir shocks make it most

apparent to me at a more “novice” pace.

“It still needs some fine-tuning,”

suggests van Overbeek. “But with better

damping comes more windows of

performance. The car now invites you to

brake later, corner harder, and get on the

power sooner.” Watkins is stoic, clearly a

little disappointed at the lost chance to

make a few instant adjustments and send

Johannes out for more timed laps. Still,

no one can deny the impressive

improvements in lap times we’ve seen

throughout the day.

The Final Analysis

Shaving almost four seconds per lap

with shocks alone is nothing short of

amazing. A corresponding gain from

power would require another 75 hp or so,

and with a stock rebuild for the SC costing

$10,000-15,000, you can see how

suspension mods amount to cheap

horsepower. And the rules in Ward’s class

won’t let him change his 911’s motor

anyway. But the chance to run low-cost,

double-adjustable shocks is certainly

within the realm of possibility.

More interesting to me are the

possibilities for so many modified street

911s that look great with lowered ride

heights and tuned suspension systems

but offer severely compromised ride

comfort. These low-cost shocks promise

far better ride comfort with increased

suspension control and more grip — the

best of all worlds. Watkins plans to offer

his front struts with an adjustable spindle

height, eliminating the need for raised

spindle, old-school RSR struts to keep the

geometry right on lowered cars. Even

those were a compromise, however,

forcing owners to choose between spindle

heights for stock or RSR. Now they can

adjust the spindle to match their own car’s

ride height.

Of course, low cost is a relative term.

The JRZ shocks I raved about last year

cost roughly $1,000 each. Watkins hopes

to make his remote-reservoir shocks

available for roughly $300-875 each

through Smart Racing Products. The lowend

price is for non-adjustable rear shocks

while the upper-end price is for doubleadjustable

front struts with the trick

moving spindles. Watkins says even the

non-adjustable units offer finer damping

than Bilsteins and re-valve fees are half

as much. Going double- adjustable adds

about $200 per shock.

To me, the double-adjustable units are

the hot ticket for racers and roadies alike.

You’ll never have the services of Weissach

available should you choose to change

your 911’s ride height, tire profile, or

springs. But the ability to instantly finetune

your shock valving to make

everything work together— whether

you’re in a paddock or by the side of your

favorite mountain road— may be the next

best thing.

Rear Monoball Kit

Fits 1965-1989 911's. These cartridges

replace the factory rubber inner control

arm bushings, which allows the arm to

move fore and aft affecting toe settings.

The monoball in the cartridge is very

strong and very positive. Toe and

camber settings are a breeze because

the monoball is nearly frictionless and

doesn't fight more extreme settings the

way the factory and certainly aftermarket

bushings do.

911 Rear Axle Bearing Retainer

for Aluminum Banana Arms

Holds the bearing more firmly than the

weak factory stamped steel plate. The

retainer is very stiff and won’t allow the

bearing to “rock” in the control arm bearing

bore. This is a common misconception -

that the bearings are bad but in reality the

bore may be becoming egg shaped and

the retainer plate can no longer support

the bearing correctly.

Adjustable Rear Spring Plates

These spring plates have been around for over 20 years because they work so well.

They are strong and easily adjustable. If you are serious about setting the ride

Replace the factory spring plates when the cars are converted to coil over rear

suspension. This kit is ideal in that it is adaptable for several installation

configurations. Camber angles are set conventionally using the factory concentric,

but toe angles are set from the side of the car instead of under it. Camber and toe

settings do not influence one another any more!

An overly complicated multi-link

suspension to start with, these kinematic

links were designed to allow exact

settings of this complicated link - whose

job is to control toe changes during

suspension movements. The factory link

has a very limited length adjustment with

the eccentrics. Between these links and

the factory eccentrics, rear toe or bump

steer can be set exactly.

Front Hub Air Deflector Shields

If you have a cool brake duct kit on your

911 or 914, and you don't have our hub

shields, an incredible 50% of the air

ducted to the rotors will go right out the

hub vanes and not through the rotor eye

to carry away the heat. These precision

laser-cut stainless steel shields fit

perfectly into the front wheel hubs of '65

to '89 911/930 and all 914's with 5 bolt

hubs. 944's, 964's, 993's and 996's don't

need shields by virtue of their hub and

To provide a quick and easy-to-install air

manifold that will allow proper and safe

air ducting of the 2.5" air hose from the

front valance/air dam area to the rotor

brake duct. The clamshell manifolds

ensure two things; one, that the air hose

won't be torn off by the tire rubbing on it

and two, to eliminate the reduction in the

amount of lost air volume caused by

crushed or worn-through air hoses.

Additionally, they are offset downward to

ensure that on very low cars, the

manifolds won't hit the body itself and

damage themselves. Kit does not include

The WEVO Shifter is a precision short shift/spring

centered/reverse blocked shift mechanism for 915 equipped

911's. Intended for street cars, club event cars and full

competition race cars. This kit can be installed in any version

915 shifter base from cars 1973-1986 (1972 cars can be

updated). The WEVO Shifter kit is an alternative to the factory

short shift kit. The lever is spring loaded from both sides so will

stand in the 3rd - 4th gear plane in neutral. A reverse selection

blocker only operates when moving the lever out of 5th gear.

The kit will take about 2 hours to install including removal and

refitting of the shifter assembly to your chassis. No special

tools or skills are required. The installation of a WEVO Shifter

will be one of the most positive tactical upgrades you can

perform to a Porsche with a 901, 915, or 930 transmission.

The WEVO G50 shifter is designed for

use in the 1987 – 1989 G50 equipped

911 Carrera. This is a short shift unit

fashioned after the highly successful

WEVO 915 shifter family.

The reduction in lever travel is

approximately 30%. The shifter does not

have any lateral spring provision as the

spring centering is integral with the

components inside the G50

transmission. The kit is installed in the

stock housing and uses some of the

original components. A new shift rod

bushing is included as this is a wear item

in the original configuration.

WEVO Racing Precision Shift Coupler

Our ultimate version of the PSJ, the

original and still the preferred full

competition solution.

This joint eliminates the potentially

troublesome friction pinch clamp on the

rear of the shift tube and replaces it with

a 3-bolt flange assembly that eliminates

the risk of unintended adjustment.

Length adjustment is accomplished by

adding or eliminating 1mm shims

between the two bolt flanges (5 shims

per kit). You must remove transmission to

install and welding is required. Fits '65-

Precision Shift Coupler

This product is a direct bolt in

replacement for you existing shift tube

coupler that is located under the cover

plate on the center tunnel near the rear

seats. The WEVO G50 Carrera is only

suitable for '87 - '89 3.2 liter Carrera and

'89 930.

The coupler requires no adjustment

and is quick and easy to install.

The WEVO G50 Carrera PSJ does

eliminate the O.E. rubber diaphragm

coupler that is used as part of the NVH

isolation in the stock shifter mechanism -

for this reason the level of noise being

transmitted into the driver compartment

is increased. Many other factors

determine the actual increase and

drivers seeking to maintain O.E. levels of

cabin noise are encouraged to consider

this carefully before purchasing or

installing the WEVO G50 Carrera PSJ.

Care and Feeding of Lexan windows

Plastic window maintenance is easy if you follow a few simple rules. Do not use any abrasive cleaners, household spray wax or

solvent based cleaners. Extremely dirty windows should be gently washed with lukewarm water and a soft cotton towel.

Caution: Plastic windows react adversely to some liquids commonly used around race cars.

• Liquid thread lockers are especially bad.

• Acetone, MEK or other strong solvents dissolve both acrylic and polycarbonate.

• Cleaners that contain ammonia!

• Rain-X® or similar products.

• Windshield wiper use causes no harm to the windshield as long as the windshield

is clean and the wiper is not allowed to run "dry", "squeak" or "chatter".

Adjustable Low Oil Pressure Switch

Low oil pressure is dangerous to all

engines, especially 911’s. We have

found that under more extreme

conditions, the factory switch indicates at

too low a pressure and connecting rod

bearing damage can occur in seconds.

The beauty of this pressure switch is that

you can adjust the point at which the

light comes on. In our cars, we have it

set so the light comes on when the

engine is warm and idling. The

adjustment range is from 14 to 25

pounds. Fits on virtually any engine.

Master Battery Switch

Master Battery Switch has been

designed to eliminate the possibility of

the Alternator Circuit being damaged

due to heavy voltage surge, that can

occur with the use of a heavy duty single

circuit On/Off Switch. When turned to the

Off position the engine will be

automatically stopped due to the

secondary switch function whereby the

ignition circuit is cut. This prevents

engine “Run On” and is a vital safety

factor especially in competition use.

12 Suspension Set-up Sequence

Suspension Set-up Sequence

The following are the steps we follow when we align our cars. Suspension alignment is a step by step

process that requires knowledge, patience, and tools. You’ll measure the car several times and find your

settings of one adjustment affecting the setting of another. If you only adjust the ride height, camber, or

toe, the one adjustment you made will affect the others. So take it slow, recheck every measurement after

each adjustment, and you’ll get a better understanding of your suspension. Remember, it is the attention

to details that will really pay off.

1. Put driver’s weight equivalent in car.

2. Set tire pressures.

3. Check lug nuts.

4. Check front and rear wheel bearings to be sure they are not sloppy.

5. Set steering wheel to the straight-ahead position and lash so it can’t move.

(be sure the rack and pinion is centered).

6. Disconnect anti-roll bars front and rear.

7. Set caster angle (measure relative to ground plan angle)

8. Check basic toe angles and note.

9. Check basic camber angles and note.

10. Check basic side to side heights and note.

11. Set front suspension ride height (arms at .5 degree to 1 degree positive if possible).

12. Set rear ride height to 1 degree to 1.5 degree angle-of-attack at door sill and check

side to side heights.

13. Set front caster angle.

14. Set final camber (will change with toe settings)

15. Set final toe (will change with camber settings)

16. Corner balance car.

17. Measure center of gravity if applicable.

18. Reconnect anti-roll bars and set to zero preload while still on setup platform etc.

19. Remove car from scales.

20. Remove driver’s weight.

21. Raise or hoist the car and check all suspension fasteners for final torque.

22. Record all dimensions and settings and date them.

Anti-Roll Bar Adjustment Guide

Here is a basic chart you can use as a guide to adjust our anti-roll bars. When you adjust the anti-roll bar

you are transferring the amount of load (and resultant increase in grip) from one tire to another diagonally

across the chassis.

Car has a push (front needs more grip):

Turn In Soften Front Anti-roll Bar

Turn Exit Stiffen Rear Anti-roll Bar

Car has oversteer (rear needs more grip):

Turn In Stiffen Front Anti-roll Bar

Turn Exit Soften Rear Anti-roll Bar or Stiffen Front

The handling of the car can also be changed easily by adjusting tire pressures or driving a different radius

(or “line”) through the corner. Tire pressures can be adjusted in 2 psi increments to find the highest level of

grip. As a driver, you can adjust the line through the corner to minimize some handling problems. We
