Woodward, this unit is designed to fit into<br />

any ‘89 and earlier 911 using the factory<br />

aluminum cross member or ERP’s 935 style<br />

cross member (ERP mounting kit available<br />

separately). These units are unmatched in<br />

their design and build quality. One of its<br />

most ingenuous features is, the amount of<br />

power assist is adjustable by simply<br />

removing and installing one of 15 differently<br />

sized torsion bars — the result is assist<br />

amounts can range from hardly noticeable<br />

to full finger tip assist! Why power steering?<br />

Today’s ‘89 and earlier 911’s are going<br />

faster and faster due to increased grip from<br />

advances in shock and tire technologies<br />

along with high amounts of aero downforce<br />

— putting a higher and higher demand on<br />

the driver’s strength. Coupled with the high<br />

caster angles, wider rims with considerable<br />

offsets, steering efforts have gone through<br />

the roof. Driver fatigue is often associated<br />

with a heavy steering car. Even more stock<br />

cars benefit from it because it is less<br />

strenuous for the driver, even in short sprint<br />

races. Remember, starting with the ‘89<br />

C4’s, Porsche has run power steering on<br />

every car it has since built; even the entire<br />

range of 996 GT3R’s and Cup cars. Uses<br />

factory 930 style tie rods, tie rod ends and<br />

boots or ERP tie rod bump steer kits — all<br />

available separately.<br />

Factoids: Fits 911’s, 930’s and 914’s with<br />

some minor body modifications. Designed<br />

to be powered by an electric power steering<br />

pump mounted in the front trunk area along<br />

with a small fluid reservoir. Specific<br />

universal joints are available to adapt it to<br />

the factory steering shaft; requires welding.<br />

ERP 935 Front Suspension<br />

The ERP kit benefit is adjustability.<br />

Camber, caster, track width, even wheel<br />

base and width are adjustable. The kit<br />

uses an ERP monoball and its own<br />

cross member to mount the arms and<br />

steering rack; additionally, the arms are<br />

longer and the inner pivot point is raised<br />

20mm to improve the camber gain<br />

characteristics and also reduces the<br />

anti-dive tendencies under hard braking.<br />

Tubular vs. Solid Torsion Bars<br />

The controversy rages on, but the reality<br />

is that the real benefit is lightness, not<br />

that they are “faster acting”. If you have<br />

a very light car - say less than 1900#<br />

and you are trying to get every once out<br />

of the car and you can not use coil<br />

overs, buy the tubular bars.<br />
