Environmental Science majors select one additional course from their respective electives<br />

list and will complete an independent research project (EV489A) during term 7 or 8 and<br />

present their findings to their classmates and faculty. Environmental Engineering majors<br />

will complete an independent research project as one <strong>of</strong> their electives. Refer to the detailed<br />

program descriptions in this book and see your academic counselor for the specific details<br />

for each Honors Program as well as entry standards.<br />

ACADEMIC AWARDS. The Department recognizes its best cadets using a number <strong>of</strong><br />

prestigious awards. The Congressional Medal <strong>of</strong> Honor Society Award is presented<br />

annually to a member <strong>of</strong> the graduating class for excellence in geography. The Order <strong>of</strong> the<br />

Founders and Patriots <strong>of</strong> America Award is presented annually to a member <strong>of</strong> the<br />

graduating class for excellence in environmental science or engineering. The National<br />

Organization <strong>of</strong> the Ladies Auxiliary Veterans <strong>of</strong> Foreign Wars <strong>of</strong> the United States Award<br />

is presented annually to a member <strong>of</strong> the graduating class for excellence in the<br />

Environmental Engineering sequence. The Environmental Systems Research Institute<br />

Award is presented annually to a member <strong>of</strong> the graduating class for excellence in<br />

geospatial information science. These honors are presented at the annual Graduation<br />

Awards Convocation to the cadet in each respective major with the highest grade point<br />

average in the elective program.<br />
