BALI AIRPORT FOR $211 MILLION UPGRADE
EXPANSION OF BALI’S Ngurah Rai International
Airport will start this month, beginning with a project
to relieve traffi c congestion.
The project will be divided into four phases. The
fi rst phase includes building access roads for the
surrounding environment and the second phase is
building a parking area.
The third phase is building the terminal, which will
start in March or April this year. The fourth phase
is creating an automatic baggage handling system.
The airport company is building a new international
terminal and will convert the airport’s current
international terminal to a domestic terminal.

INTERCONTINENTAL HOTELS GROUP
is stepping into the health and wellness
trend with the introduction of its eighth
brand, Even Hotels.
The new brand, which is scheduled to
see its fi rst opening during the fi rst part of
2013, is focused on the healthy-minded
traveller and will focus around four key
areas: Exercise, Eat, Work and Rest.
The hotels will come equipped with
amenities such as guestrooms designed
for in-room workouts (complete with
coat racks that double as pull up bars),
nutritious menus, hypoallergenic linens
and anti bacterial wipes. Restaurants and
cafes will focus on fresh, fi t and energising
meals, and free fl avoured water and mini

The project will also include construction of a
3-story parking lot capable of accommodating
1500 cars.The terminal will also be equipped with
a transit hotel to accommodate the passengers of
cancelled fl ights. The airport’s domestic terminal is
currently operating over capacity, accommodating
4.5 million passengers a year — three times its
maximum load.
The airport’s terminals will span 190,000m 2 and be
able to accommodate 20 million passengers a year
after the expansion project is complete in 2013.
Once the fourth phase is completed, the airport will
be the fi rst in Indonesia to have a barcode-driven
automatic baggage handling system.
VIRGIN LAUNCHES NEW
UPPER CLASS MEAL SERVICE
VIRGIN ATLANTIC has introducing a new Upper
Class meal service.
Following on from a new crockery and cutlery
service that was introduced into the Upper Class
cabin last year, the pre-fl ight glass of Lanson Black
Label Champagne or Bucks Fizz will now be served
in a new champagne coupe glass, made famous in
the golden age of Hollywood.
A new Graze menu has been introduced on
selected fl ights, enabling passengers who don’t
fancy a full meal to opt for hot and cold snacks that
can be ordered at their seat whenever they like.
A modern table setting, using linen designed by
Virgin Atlantic’s inhouse design team, has also
been introduced.
Passengers travelling on selected day fl ights, like
London Heathrow to US West Coast services, will
be able to sample a new post-dessert cheese trolley
including biscuits, fruit and chutney served with a
glass of port.

part of oneworld
alliance
AIRBERLIN will become a
full member of oneworld,
adding Europe’s sixth largest
carrier to the premier global airline alliance.
Austrian airline NIKI, also a member of
the airberlin group, will join oneworld at the
same time as an affi liate member.
So from 20 March 2012, it will be offering
oneworld’s full range of services and substantially
expand the alliance’s network in
Germany, Europe’s biggest economy, and
throughout South and Central Europe.
It will add almost 70 destinations to the
alliance’s map, extending oneworld’s global
coverage to some 840 destinations in 150
countries, served by more than 9000
departures a day operated by a combined
fl eet of some 2500 aircraft, carrying nearly
300 million passengers a year, with annual
revenues of almost $US100 billion.
It will become part of oneworld 3 months
before it moves into the new Brandenburg
airport at its Berlin home, which will open
on 3 June with an eventual capacity for
27 million passengers a year. airberlin and
its alliance partners will be co-located at
Europe’s newest hub, sharing lounges and
many other facilities, to offer customers
there the smoothest of connections.
Another truly British tradition, the afternoon tea
trolley, will also be introduced on certain fl ights,
whereby each passenger will receive their own mini
cake stands including fi nger sandwiches, selection
of cake, and scones with jam and clotted cream.
