... Be part of the Bible Study this Tuesday (28), and
each Tuesday of Lent, at 7:00pm in the Hall. We
are studying ‘The Passion and Resurrection Narratives
of Jesus’. Discover the riches of Scripture!
... Contributions last weekend (19) amounted to a
low $14,005.00, with 404 families using envelopes.
A further $2,457.00 was contributed ‘Online’!
... How about signing-up for ‘Online Giving’? It’s

served 200 Pancake Breakfasts last Sunday (19),
and raised $2,850.00 in support of their great

$2,000.00! To date, they have raised $7,293.00 of
their $8,450.00 goal. Thank you so much!

... Our Annual Catholic Appeal lends support to
the many and varied ministries of our Diocese. It
assists with our extensive education ministries in
our parishes, supports our Diocesan seminary, the
much needed continuing education of our priests,
and the multi faceted work of Catholic Charities
and it’s many outreaches.
... Our Annual Catholic Appeal has also established
a special fund to assist the on-going development
of parishes, particularly in the Imperial Valley.
... Saint John is expected to raise $60,000 for the
Annual Catholic Appeal. To date, 104 families have
made pledges. Please make a pledge today!
... The first Friday of each month, that’s this Friday
(2), is a special day of prayer at Saint John for
vocations to the priesthood in San Diego. The
morning 8:00am Mass is followed by Adoration and
Benediction of the Most Blessed Sacrament. Wow!
... The Sacrament of Reconciliation (Penance) is
celebrated every Saturday from 3:30pm to
4:30pm, and again from 6:00pm to 7:00pm, in the
church. The green light means Father is there and
available, while the red light means Father is there
but busy right now! Just wait a moment!
... This Wednesday (29) an early Lenten Penance
Service will be celebrated at Saint Margaret, 4300
Oceanside Boulevard, Oceanside at 7:00pm.
... We are aware of a number of people who have
the Celia Sprue condition, and so cannot eat gluten,
a major ingredient in wheat flour. We have a
low-gluten host, less that .01% wheat, available.
To receive the Eucharist in this form, just inform
Father before Mass, and then, at Communion time,
plan to be first in line to receive from Father. We
are only too happy to oblige!

... Mark Brabyn and his family gathered with us
every Sunday. Mark died suddenly, at 50 years of
age, on Saturday (18). He was always accompanied
by his wife, Loretta, daughters, Jackie and
Caroline, and son, Adam. May he rest in peace.
... A little girl was asked how she learned to skate.
She replied, “Oh, by getting up every time I fell!”

ARREPIÉNTANSE Y CREAN
EN EL EVANGELIO
La Cuaresma es
la época del año que
dedicamos a examinar
nuestras vidas a
la luz de nuestro
Bautismo en la
muerte y Resurrección
de Jesús. Las
lecturas de hoy son
un catecismo abreviado
de lo que significa estar bautizados. Como
Noé pasó por las aguas del diluvio a una alianza con
Dios, así también nosotros entramos en una alianza,
una relación con Dios, mediante nuestro Bautismo.
La carta de Pedro da una explicación explícita de
lo que nuestro Bautismo significa: un llamamiento
que hacemos a Dios para que nos dé una conciencia
tranquila. ¿Cómo podemos obtener esta conciencia
tranquila? Las palabras proclamadas por Jesús inmediatamente
después de su tentación nos muestran
cómo: “Arrepiéntanse y crean en el Evangelio”
(Marcos 1:15). Podría ser un buen ejercicio espiritual
mantener estas lecturas ante nosotros durante
todo el tiempo de Cuaresma, un medio que nos ayude
a volver a una vida vivida por las promesas bautismales.
