This four-day multispecialty symposium on all aspects of robotic surgery was held in April 2010 in Orlando Florida. News A new comprehensive Thyroid Center has opened at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia. Services available at the Center include endocrinology, ultrasonography/ interventional radiology, cytopathology/ pathology, anesthesiology and sedation, and surgical services. The Center is organized under Dr. Andrew Bauer, a pediatric endocrinologist from Walter Reed. Diagnostic ultrasonography is performed at CHOP and if necessary, a fineneedle aspiration may be arranged with sedation or anesthesia and interventional radiology. The specimens are reviewed by cytopathogists for adequacy and diagnosis. Surgical services are provided by Dr. Scott Adzick (Pediatric Surgery) and Dr. Ken Kazahaya (Pediatric Otolaryngology). A new Endoscopy Procedure Suite has been established at the Perelman Center for Advanced Medicine. Here, laryngological and esophageal procedures including laser procedures, balloon dilatations, injections, bronchoscopies and esophagoscopies are performed under minimal anesthesia, with quick recovery.
