SBS Stt series batteries are 20 year stationary batteries 

that were developed for utility, telecom and general purpose 

applications. they are distinguished by their economical 

design, lead selenium tubular positive plates, and their high 

tolerance to cycling. 

the Stt’s tubular lead selenium cells provide the best 

possible compromise in lead-acid plate technology. By 

utilizing a proportion of selenium in the grid alloy, a dense 

fine grain structure is produced. this alloy is extremely 

corrosion-resistant and virtually eliminates inter-granular 

corrosion — one of the most common causes of cell failure. 

a lead selenium cell, therefore, combines the advantages of 

both lead calcium and lead antimony cells while exhibiting 

none of the disadvantages. 

Advanced designed tubular plates 

with lead selenium alloy reduces grid 

corrosion and increases life. Increasing 

surface area of active material improves 

high-rate capacity.

nickel cadmium pocket plate batteries are the most reliable and rugged 

batteries available today. they can withstand, to a great extent, any type of 

abuse like overcharge, deep discharge, even accidental reverse charge and can 

be stored in any state of charge. 

Pocket plate batteries are manufactured in 3 series (l, m, & h) based on their 

performance capabilities. they are available in 1.2v single cells and in 1.2v, 2.4v 

& 3.6v multi-cell blocks. 

SBS’s pocket plate batteries are supplied with the electrolyte, intercell 

connectors, related hardware and accessories required for normal operation and 

maintenance.

vrPP (valve regulated pocket plate) batteries were designed 

to meet the needs of applications requiring the traditional high 

reliability of nickel cadmium pocket plate cells without the need 

to top-up with water. the vrPP battery works on the oxygen 

recombination principle and therefore has a much reduced water 

consumption. the level of recombination of these cells is 85-95%. 

normal vented type cells will have only a 30-35% recombination 

efficiency. when the vrPP cells are properly float charged 

(between 1.41–1.43 v/cell) they will not need to be topped off with 

water for nearly 20 years. If the levels do become low during the 

life of the battery there are provisions to add water to the cells. 

the vrPP batteries are available in 1.2v single cells or 2.4v, 3.6v 

or 4.8v multi-cell blocks. SBS’s vrPP batteries are supplied 

with the electrolyte, intercell connectors, related hardware and 

accessories required for normal operation and maintenance.

Flooded Nickel Cadmium Cells 

the nickel Fibre matrix used for the fibre plate allows 

90% of the electrode volume for holding the active 

material. the three dimensional fibre structure also 

provides good conductivity to ensure excellent 

electrical performance. In addition, the nickel cadmium 

Fibre plate technology uses active material free from 

graphite and iron. Elimination of graphite ensures 

that the electrolyte does not get carbonated and the 

elimination of iron reduces water consumption and 

extends life.

front access battery. these racks come pre-wired with an ultra Flexible mtw-style cable which 

terminates each battery string to the dc Junction Box located at the top of the rack.

the SBS-8400 was designed as an improved version of the popular 

torkel 840 load tester. the SBS-8400 has similar discharging 

capabilities as the torkel 840, however, it has the advantage of having 

a user-friendly touch screen menu and a built-in data monitoring/ 

acquisition system complete with wireless modules and software. 

the wireless modules are easy to hook up. Each module can record 

the real-time voltage of up to four individual cells or multi-cell blocks. 

during the test the user can view real-time data on the unit’s large 5.7" 

color screen or through their own laptop. 

the SBS-8400 is also unique in that it has adjustable automatic 

stop points. In addition, if you want to change the settings during a

Limit Setting 

Limits and time delay are set by removing the 

front bezel (4 screws). This can safely be done 

with power on. 

SBS’s Battery monitor is a breakthrough in ground fault detection. this full Battery 

voltage / ground meter / alarm relay automatically indicates the instant a ground 

occurs. the optional hand-held ground fault locator finds the exact location of that 

ground, no matter where it is in the line. 

this highly accurate dc voltage meter relay provides voltage readings of battery, + or 

-BuS to ground, and ground fault voltages for protection of the essential BuS. the 

ground fault relays indicate the ground anywhere in the system, whether on the “+” or 

the “-” side. over/under voltage relays are provided. Fail safe operation of the under 

voltage relay operates correctly down to zero volts. time delay, which can be set from 

5 to 60 seconds, is provided to avoid nuisance alarms.
