Potentate’s Message

obles, there are no words that sum up the

N humble gratitude and appreciation that I feel

in accepting this position as your Potentate. A simple

thank you does not seem to be enough, but I do thank

you and I promise that I will do my best to be the

LEADER you expect me to be.

Your newly elected Divan is equally appreciative

in the confidence you Nobles have placed in them by

moving them up one more step in their journey to the

East. Remember Serving you is our goal, if you

have any suggestions how we can improve our organization, please

contact me or any member of the Divan.

My main goal this year is to maintain a strong Masonic relationship

with our Lodges. I urge everyone in Khedive Shrine to attend their

Masonic Lodge at least once a quarter. I know how busy some of us are

but we really need to remember where our journey started and to

reaffirm our Blue Lodge obligation. Remember the TENETS of our

profession; BROTHELY LOVE, RELIEF AND TRUTH.

Everyone has to be involved with Membership; recruiting, retention

and mentoring. As our numbers show, we are not doing the right job in

any of these areas, WE need to rethink and improve our methods. With

your help we will increase our membership this year, so bring us your

ideas and suggestions and get involved with us, so we will succeed in

these efforts.

Your Trustees are back in full swing this year in the maintenance of

your property, there have been a few improvements already and there

are more to come. The Chairman, Noble Leroy Lane, is hot on the job.

When you see him give him a HIGH FIVE, he really deserves it. If you

see something that you feel needs to be done, let us know, we will take

care of it.

Nobles use our Website;,www.khediveshrine.org for all the

information on what is happening, what will happen and what has

happened is on that site, use it and keep up to date with the Temple, and

the Units and Clubs. All activities, dates, times and purposes are there.

And remember Khedive is ―CRUSADING FOR KIDS‖.

Yours in the Faith ,

Donald E. Meyer

FUND-RAISING ACTIVITIES

It is natural to associate the fez with Shriners Hospitals for

Children. Because of this, meticulous attention must be given

to all fund-raising activities, including circuses, to make certain

that a contributor is not led to believe that his money will be used

for the Hospitals when all or a portion thereof will be used

otherwise. The integrity of our charity and of our fraternity must

remain above reproach.

Your specific attention is called to the following fraternal and

charitable by laws:

§335.3 USE OF NAME "SHRINERS HOSPITALS FOR

CHILDREN." The use of the name "Shriners Hospitals for

Children" or reference to the Hospitals in connection with

any fund-raising activity by a temple or Noble without the

written consent of the Imperial Potentate and the Chairman

of the Board of Trustees of the Hospitals is prohibited.

§503.10 The use of the name "Shriners Hospitals for Children"

or reference to the hospitals in connection with any

commercial product or business enterprise is prohibited

unless the written consent of the Board of Directors and

Trustees has been first obtained.

Now, therefore, IT IS HEREBY ORDERED:

1. Fund-Raising for Fraternal Purposes:

(a) No Noble (in his capacity as a Shriner), club, unit,

organization of Nobles or affiliated or appendant

corporations, shall engage in any fund-raising activity

without the express written consent of the potentate of the

temple having jurisdiction thereof.

(b) There can be no representation, express or implied, that the

proceeds will be for the benefit of Shriners Hospitals for

Children.

(c) The temple potentate shall carefully examine all phases of the

advertising, promotion and solicitation to determine that it

complies with §335.3 and §503.9 of the fraternal and

charitable bylaws.

(d) The temple potentate must approve the terms and provisions

of any contract for a fund-raising activity after receiving the

advice of the temple attorney, and, additionally, as may be

required by the temple bylaws.

(e) A copy of the temple potentate's written consent shall be

mailed to the Imperial Recorder. Further, such written

material pertaining to the fund-raising activity, as

requested by the Imperial Recorder, shall be promptly mailed

to him.

2. Fund-Raising for Charitable Purposes:

(a) No Noble (in his capacity as a Shriner), club, unit,

organization of Nobles or affiliated or appendant

corporations shall engage in any charitable fund-raising

activity other than for Shriners Hospitals for Children.

Permission therefor must be first obtained in writing from the

temple potentate. The temple potentate must then obtain

written permission from the Imperial Potentate and the

Chairman of the Board of Trustees. This request for written

permission shall be sent to the Executive Vice President—

Fraternal, Imperial Council, P.O. Box 31356, Tampa, FL

33631-3356.

(b) 100% of the net proceeds from charitable fund-raising

must be given to Shriners Hospitals for Children except for

such portion thereof as may be permitted to be retained for

the temple Shrine Hospital Patient Transportation

Fund pursuant to the Special Purpose Funds

provisions of any existing General Order.

(c) The temple shall report the result of each charitable

fund-raising activity within sixty (60) days of the activity, to

Shriners Hospitals for Children, on the Shrine Charity

Activity Form (CAF) provided to the temple.

(d) This section shall not apply to activities exempt under §335.4(b)

of the bylaws of The Imperial Council.

(e) Each independent corporation or entity that receives the

permission of the Imperial Potentate and the Chairman. of the

Board of Trustees to raise money for Shriners Hospitals for

Children, and which does not have its financial accounts

audited pursuant to §§334.5 & 337.8 of the bylaws of The

Imperial Council, shall have its financial accounts audited by a

certified, chartered or licensed public accountant and shall

submit such audit report to The Imperial Council within 120

days of the activity.

3. Statement of Purpose and Disclosure:

(a) Every fund-raising activity must contain factual information on

its solicitation material, tickets, programs and documents

regarding the use of the proceeds.

Examples

“Proceeds are for the benefit of ( Temple) ( Shrine

Club) activities." "Proceeds are for the benefit of Shriners

Hospitals for Children."

(b) Every fund-raising activity which is not entirely for the benefit

of Shriners Hospitals for Children shall prominently state on

the solicitation material, tickets and documents that

"payments are not deductible as charitable contributions."

(c) There must be compliance with the Revenue Act of 1987

provision of any existing general order by U.S. temples.

4. Compliance with Applicable Laws:

It is the responsibility of the temple potentate, after receiving the

advice of the temple attorney, to determine that there is

compliance with all applicable laws in its jurisdiction for the

temple's fundraising activities.

5. Financial Records:

(a) The temple shall maintain detailed financial records

pertaining to all fund-raising activities involving Nobles,

clubs, units, organizations of Nobles or affiliated or

appendant corporations. Details of all revenues and

disbursements shall be maintained in such financial records.

(b) The temple must retain such detailed financial records for a

period of seven (7) years.

(c) There must be compliance with the Financial Reporting on

Charitable Funds and Activities provision of any existing

general order.

6. Notification to Nobility:

A copy of the Fund-Raising Activities provisions of this

General Order shall be printed in the temple publication at least

once every calendar year. If there is no temple publication, then a

copy shall be mailed to each Noble in the temple not later than the

last day in March of each calendar year.

7. Discipline:

Any officer, Noble or temple which violates a provision of

Fund-Raising Activities is subject to discipline pursuant to the

bylaws of The Imperial Council.

Nobles, if you receive requests

remember you represent Khedive and

I must be informed. Thank you in

I look forward to working with

ROADRUNNERS

By President Ed McAlpine

ello Nobles, It gives me great pleasure to serve you as president of

H this wonderful club of dedicated Shriners, who go way out an

beyond the call of duty to transport our patients to Greenville, Philly and

now to Cincinnati. I made a trip to Cincinnati and ended up being a patient

myself, but that's another story. I have to thank our Vice President George

O'Neal for getting us all home safely.

In all my trips to the hospitals I have received so many thanks from

total strangers, saying thank you for what we do. I wonder how they really

know. But we as Roadrunners get that warm feeling when we are noticed.

I have had people to pick up the tab for our meals and have heard they paid

for our fuel, and wave as we go about our journey. I tell you.. Aint it great

to be a Roadrunner. Don't you wish you were one.

This year I hope to put our vans in the parades, filling it with

Roadrunners with their red Fez's. We already made one parade in greater

downtown Edenton, NC during Christmas time.

I would like to give special thanks to Nancy Lane and Cliff

Adkinson, who do all the leg work for us. Also to Ray Eure and his Air Wing

pilots for the special plane trips they make.

Remember you too can be a Khedive Roadrunner. Just ask one of our

members or see Ms. Nancy in the office. I promise you will be glad you did.

After one trip you will be begging for more.

Again thanks to all that serve.

Annual Sweetheart Dance on

February 11 th at Khedive. Coolin‘

Out will do their usual fine job of

creating a great atmosphere for

our guests. Noble Paul Doughtie

exceeded his already high

standards with a fabulous Heavy

hor d‘oeuvres presentation to start

this evening. The Silent Auction

was presented by our guest silent

auctioneer, Noble Paul Beck, who

was assisted by Judy Foster and

Carol Carter. The Gift Basket was

well received and two folks went

home very happy that they

A BIG thank you to those

Units and Clubs and Nobles who

gave us such great support for our

only fund raiser for the year!

Our focus will then shift to

getting ready for our first parade,

the St Paddy‘s Parade in Ocean

View in Norfolk! We will all enjoy

the delicious breakfast at Ill Sir

Bill Kern‘s garage and back yard

and then mesmerize the spectators

with our costumes, scimitars and

gonging gong!! Our own Noble

Tom Carter will do his usual

superb job of being the Khedive

Announcer on the reviewing stand

while mingling with all the

important folks in Norfolk!

We are delighted that the

Beach Bum Brothers have joined

us as co-tenants in our Unit

Room! They had a fabulous

food presentation at the Fall

Ceremonial Open House and did a

wonderful job of tending bar and

cleaning up after......life is good!

Nobles, if you like ritual work,

a tight group of brothers and

monthly meetings, then come and

visit us in our Unit Room on the

4 th Saturday of the month at 10

AM and see if this could be your

"band of brothers"!

their election to their positions for

2011! Good luck in your many

endeavors!

Thank you again to the Units

and Clubs who participated in the

Khedive/IHOP Pancake Day in

October! We all learned a lot and I

feel confident that 2011's program

will be even better!

Hockey Game is Friday,

March 11th. Nancy Lane has tickets

available. I will have two Khedive

Info Tables at the Scope that will

be giving away coloring books and

stickers for the kids. The Khedive

Drum & Bugle Corps will be

staffing one table...thanks to

Nobles Jimmy Newby and Bill

Lehm for stepping up! I need 2-3

volunteers to help me with the

other table. Please give me a call.

If you have any ideas on how we

can improve this event, give Noble

Ed "Big Ed" McAlpine a call since

he is the President of the

You outdid yourselves on

collecting toys for the Philadelphia

Installation/Christmas parties!!

Nancy and Cliff said it is going to

take several trips to get those toys

to the hospitals. Thanks, Nobles!

The Spears Bureau now has

six Nobles. They are: Wilson

Widgeon, JW Wilson, Cliff

Atkinson, John Howe, Gerry Frey

and myself. If you would like a

speaker for your organization

(Masonic or non-Masonic) please

give one of us a call. Our program

is 20 minutes and if we show an

impactful patient video we need

an additional 10 minutes.

Nobles, the best way to keep

up with what is going on locally

and nationally is to make sure you

are on Noble Wayne Kelly‘s Email

List. Just send him an email at

WEKelly@cox.net to let him know

you want to be on the list. Some

Shrine Centers have over 80% of

their Nobles on such an email list.

Let me slip into another fez

for a moment, Nobles.... I have

been appointed the First

Ceremonial Master for 2011. One

of my responsibilities will be to

announce the Khedive Shrine

Units/Clubs at the parades we

participate in this year. If you have

some "words" you would like for

me to say as you pass by the

reviewing stand, just let me know.

I would be happy to oblige you!

Our web site continues to get

"more better" under the direction

of Anne Harriman, our web

master/producer! Take a moment

to go to www.khediveshrine.org to

see what is happening at Khedive.

Each Unit/Club has their own link

to tell you who their officers are,

what events they are planning,

and what their focus is. Kudo‘s to

Anne Harriman for a fine job, but

she can only list what you provide

her!!

Finally, there was a lot of

time, thought and resources put

into the UaCA Booklets that were

given to each Unit Director/

Captain and Club President at the

UaCA Orientation Breakfast this

year. I would be open to any

suggestions you might have on

how to improve that booklet!

DRUM & BUGLE CORPS

By Assistant Director Terry Riley

he Drum & Bugle Corps is getting ready for

T a very busy year. Starting off the year, we

are having our Annual Oyster Roast, March 5th at

the Shrine Center put on by Noble George Gunter,

Assistant Director of Uniformed Unit‘s Johnnie

Chandler and Noble David Chandler for our

members. It‘s our way of thanking the Members for

all their hard work and participation throughout the

year. Right behind that we will be playing at the 1st Corn Beef/Ham and Cabbage Dinner on the 6th of

March, followed by the 44th Annual Saint Patrick‘s

Day Parade. Step off is at 10:00, and if you haven‘t

come out in a while, you are really missing out. This

is one of our favorite parades of the year!!!

On April 3rd we will be holding our Annual Fish

Fry under the direction of Frank Grice and our highly

trained staff of Volunteers from the Drum Corps

Noble John T. Atkinson Jr.

and The Khedive Motor

Corps. There will be plenty of

food, drinks, entertainment

and door prizes. This event

draws a good crowd every year,

so get your tickets early and come out and enjoy the

fun. Tickets are a mere $12 and can be purchased

through any member of the Drum Corp.

May 2, The Drum and Bugle Corps along with

The Mini 18 Wheelers will be holding their Annual

Golf Tournament at Stumpy Lake, in Virginia

Beach. Let‘s get all the units and clubs to put teams in

and let‘s have a good time and enjoy the

fellowship. Anyone wishing to be a hole sponsor,

should contact any of our members for details.

Please keep our sick and distressed in your

thoughts and prayers and our Shriner Children as

well. We lost Noble John Farrer this year. John was

a kind and gentle man who loved the Drum

Corps. We will miss him dearly. Also, never forget

our military personal serving in harm‘s way all over

the world.

TIDEWATER

SHRINE CLUB

By Noble Scott Traner

reetings Nobles and welcome to the year 2011. This

G will be a special year for us at the Tidewater Shrine

Club as we were chartered in 1961 which makes us officially

50 years young.

Even though we may be a "Senior" club we still have

the enthusiasm of "Youth" for our honor of supporting the

children and our hospitals.

Plans are being made for our onion sale in early May

and we will have mention of this on the temples web site as

we get near the actual sales date. A reminder to all you

nobles who might have missed out in the past get on the web

site and pre-order your onions so that we can make sure to

cover every one who wants them. Nobles Marshall Lewis

and Mark Cook will head up the drive and I don't have to

remind you of how important it is that everyone lets them

know what they need.

“Plans are being made for our

onion sale in May and we will

have mention of this on the

temples web site as we get near

the actual sales date.”

The Daffodil parade is March 26 th and we bring out the

the trucks and have a ball. Refreshments at Coor Street

make the day even better.

The Little Oyster bowl is on our tentative schedule until

we get the firm date from the school. If you have never been

to one of these games you are really missing out. Besides

being fun it is an excellent chance to show off the Shrine.

Jon Beck and Randy Rogers are already hot on the

selling of plaques, and we encourage anyone to purchase

one for the donation of $100.00. This supports the

transportation unit and as has been reported at the units

and clubs meetings we are not in the black with our fund

even though we always find the means to transport our

children.

We wish everyone a good year and if you can attend one

of our meetings please come. We meet the third Thursday of

every month. We change locations between Nicks Steak

House at Gloucester Point just across the Coleman bridge or

The Beacon Restaurant in Topping. Please come and join us

for good food and great fellowship.

Fraternally yours,

Noble Scott Traner

I

t is an honor to serve as the first Captain of

the Khedive Swashbucklers for 2011. I look

forward to working closely with my new slate

of officers and shipmates to make things happen for

the Swashbucklers and Khedive Temple. We are

planning to be very active at Khedive Temple this year

and already have many of our membership serving

on Khedive Temple‘s Staff and Official Family. By

supporting Khedive Temple and being active as a

Unit, the Swashbuckler hope to become a very close

knit group of people that gets the job done. Most

importantly, we plan to have lots of fun doing it!

The Swashbucklers is the newest unit at Khedive

with a starting membership of 14 Nobles, chartered

January 14, 2011. We are a Pirate themed unit, which

should be a lot of fun in the years to come. Our plans

are to build a pirate ship from a transit bus that we

can drive in parades, similar to our sister unit the

Sudan Buccaneers. Although it will be some time

before we are ready for parading, we feel that by

adding some additional diversity to the look of our

parades, we should make them more interesting for

the people that come to watch us all parade. We are

still too new to have set up any fund raisers at this

point, but I assure you we will make every effort to

support Khedive Temple and its units in their efforts.

If you are having a fund raising event, please send our

Scribe, Phil Cromartie, the information about it and

we will try to support it.

We can be found on the Khedive Website, also on

Facebook under Swashbucklers2011 and our unit

email is swashbucklers2011@verizon.net.

If you are looking for something new in the

Shrine and would like to take an active role and have

fun doing it, please consider applying for membership

to the Khedive Swashbucklers. You can obtain

applications from the officers of the Swashbucklers.

We meet at 7:00 PM on the third (3rd ) Wednesday

each month. We are currently meeting at Norton‘s

Sandblasting Equipment, 1006 Executive Blvd.,

Chesapeake, VA 23320

Feel free to contact any of the Swashbucklers

Officers if you have any questions or are interested in

membership.

CHESAPEAKE SHRINE CLUB

By Secretary/Treasurer Joe Ramsey

hese articles get harder

T and harder to get going.

You have to find the perfect

opening line to get the ball rolling.

How about this; Well 2010 is only

a memory and 2011 is staring us

dead in the face. Not my best

opening but at least I am typing.

First of all we would like to

congratulate Illustrious Sir Jim

Canterbury on a fine year. Why

don‘t you and your Lady Jeri take

a boat trip Jim and recharge your

batteries and we will see you at the

Club real soon.

On a sad note the infamous

―Black Camel‖ is hanging around

our Oasis far too much these days.

He came and took long time

bartender and friend Pete

Almond. We will definitely miss

you Pete and in your honor I am

going to take a break and have my

―First one today‖ right now. God

bless you Brother.

The next order of business is

to congratulate now Potentate

Don Meyer and his crew on

advancing one more step up the

ladder. I also want to send a

special shout out to newly Past

President Ray Teller for

being elected Oriental Guide. The

balloting was tight but he came

away with the victory. When he

eventually becomes Potentate,

don‘t worry Virginia it‘s only 5

years, he will be the eighth Past

President to hold that office. Must

be something in the Crown Royal,

I mean water.

Upcoming events, where do I

start?

The Oyster Roast is as good a

place as any. March 26 is the date.

If I don‘t see you working then I

hope to see you eating. Shake off

that cabin fever and come on out.

April is Blue Lodge Night

so bring out all of the Masonic

Brothers you can round up and

show them what the Shrine is all

about Chesapeake Shrine Club

style.

May is Ladies Night. You will

not believe the entertainment that

we booked. Always remember the

Club does it first and we do it best.

Buy your tickets early it will be a

sell out.

The month of June will bring

the Spring Ceremonial and Rodeo.

Past President Jay White and I are

once again in charge of concessions

at the Rodeo so we WILL be

calling you to help. You have never

let us down yet. Thanks

in advance, right Ray?

July is my favorite

month. Why because it‘s

Father/Son/Daughter/

Grandkids/Neighbors

Kids/Neighbors Dogs /Your Dogs

night. Did I leave anybody out? If

so just bring them. It is always a

pleasure and blessing to see the

hall packed to the rafters. As

always we will have a great

program.

That is enough calendar stuff.

A couple of more things I would

like to mention. Lindsey Smith the

Granddaughter of Illustrious Sir

Ray Hall who was the recipient

of the Chesapeake Shrine Club

scholarship made the Dean‘s list at

Radford this semester. Great job

Lindsey you make us proud.

I seem to be jumping around

quite a lot. I guess Pete‘s first one

turned into four more. Anyway we

have a number of people who need

your prayers. Just to name a few

Thelma Wright, Page Eaton and

Illustrious Sir Clyde Dalton

and unfortunately the list

could go on and on. Remember

Chesapeake Shrine Club meets the

third Monday of the month.

Hors d‘oeuvers are at 6:00 and the

dinner is at 7:00.We‘ll leave the

light on for you.

Yours in the Faith,

Joe Ramsey

obles, you have given me the means and

operations in Shrinedom. However, to go with that we need

patients. Finding new patients is not a one or two

person job. It requires all of us to be diligent in our efforts.

We have plenty of Hospital applications available in the

If you are around the Temple, stop in the

By law (Health Insurance Portability and Accountability

MINI 18 WHEELERS

By Noble Dave Adams

Greetings Nobles & Ladies,

Congratulations to Illustrious Don Meyer on

being elected and installed as our Potentate for 2011,

and also to Noble Ray Teller for being elected to the

office of Oriental Guide. The Mini 18 Wheelers are

looking forward to supporting you throughout the

year!

As 2010 came to a close, the Mini 18 Wheelers

were still able to get out and participate in a few of

the local holiday parades. We were well represented

at the Lynnhaven Colony Christmas Parade along

with several other Khedive units.

The new parade season is just around the corner,

and as we get ready to roll on down the highway, we

will be out in full force at this year‘s Norfolk St.

Patrick‘s Day Parade. The cobwebs have been

removed from the air-horns and our rides have been

dusted off, so keep your ears and eyes open!

Please be advised that our

meetings are usually held on the

first Monday of each month. If

you are interested in joining a

unit, we encourage you come on

by the Truck Stop and visit with

us during one of our meetings. If you do decide to

join our unit and if building a new truck is necessary,

all of our members are more than willing to pitch in

to build one and get that Kenworth on the road.

As always, we ask that you keep in your thoughts

and prayers all of the Temple‘s members who are

unable to join us in various events because of illness

Hello fellow CLOWNS! I hope all is well

with each of you because our new year is

beginning to start. Most important is that we

begin with a new director the one and only

RAY GATES. I also want to congratulate our

new potentate Illustrious Sir Donald E. Meyer. I say to you Illustrious

Sir, I will give you my support and may you have a great year.

OK guys, we begin the year with the Potentate‘s Ball on Saturday,

February 26 and follow it up with the very best ST PATRICK‘s DAY

parade on March 12. We then jump into the EASTER EGG hunt at

Khedive Temple on April 23 rd especially for all the children.

OK guys here, it is. If you are a member in good health, we really

need you to dress out!! Last year at the MASA parade we had 7 clowns

dress out. So please be there, it‘s not for you, it‘s for the kids being

helped at our hospitals. Let‘s support the kids.

Also, our most important fundraiser and the most important thing

do support our Temple and the kids is COOK/SELL BAR- B- QUE, and

we are going to do that again in February, so if you‘re able, be there.

Hey, until then, be seeing ya.

WILLIAMSBURG

SHRINE CLUB

By Tom E. Lasher

he Williamsburg Shrine Club would like to

T congratulate Illustrious Don Meyer on his

election to Potentate, to all of the members of the

Divan on their advancements, and to Noble Ray

Teller on being elected Oriental Guide. What a great

group of officers our Temple has, and what a bright

future.

November brought us the Grand Annual

Communication in Richmond where our own Grand

Master, M:.W:. William E. Rorer, Jr. passed the torch

to his successor M:.W:. John Mason Chambliss, Jr.

Congratulations on a great and successful year

M:.W:. and Noble Bill.

In celebration of our 33rd year of operation, the

Williamsburg Shrine Club had its January meeting

gaveled open by our very first Club President, Noble

Warren Crammer, who called the meeting to order.

Our current Club President, Noble Lon Weber, noted

this historical moment and stated that he intends to

dedicate our 33rd year to emphasizing membership

and achieving a 10% net gain during the year.

In November our own Dick Jones presented a

program on M:.W:. Robert G. Scott, who was Grand

Master of Masons in Virginia in 1829 and 1830, and

who was a member of Williamsburg No. 6, but for

whom the Lodge never had a portrait in our ―Grand

Master‗s― portrait gallery. Noble Dick spoke on his

adventure and his quest to find the Portrait

of M:.W:. Scott for Williamsburg Lodge and for

the Grand Lodge of Virginia. The hunt started as Dick

sat in lodge one night wondering what he could do

for the lodge, when his eyes came upon a picture

frame with no picture but only a name "Robert G.

Scott". Five years later and hundreds of hours of

research later, the hunt came to an end in Waco

Texas. The portrait was found hanging in the

entranceway of a very rich Texas family. The

Williamsburg Shrine club members were on the edge

of their seats until the final details of Dick's five-year

hunt ended. Noble and Brother Dick, thank you so

much for your contribution to Williamsburg No 6

and to the Grand Lodge of Virginia.

In December we had our Ladies join us for our

annual December Christmas and Holiday party,

which this year was held at the WSC home site of the

Holiday Inn, Bypass Rd. The spirit was festive, and

The Williamsburg Shrine Club celebrated the

beginning of its 33rd year with Lon Weber (right)

current president and Warren Cramer, the club's first

President, gaveling the 1/9/11 meeting to order.

the presence of our ladies made for a delightful

occasion.

Several members of our Divan were present and

installed the Williamsburg Shrine Club‘s 2011

President, Noble Lon Weber, and his Officers.

Mrs. Loretta Hannum, the coordinator of Social

Studies for Williamsburg/James City County Public

Schools, presented our January program. Mrs.

Hannum presented a program on Social Studies

Education in the Williamsburg/James City County

school system, stressing the importance of producing

socially responsible children.

Finally, a huge THANKS to Illustrious Jim

Canterbury and the 2010 Divan for a great year, and

all of the support they gave the Williamsburg Shrine

Club. The Club accomplished so much this past year,

and without your support, it would not have been

possible. And what a joy it was to have the Divan and

their families at our various functions throughout the

year. Again thanks to Illustrious Jim and Lady Jeri,

as well as all of the other Divan members and their

families.

That‘s all from the Colonial Capital for now. But,

we invite all of you to come spend an evening with us.

We meet on the first Wednesday of each month, at

the Holiday Inn on Bypass Rd. in Williamsburg, with

the social hour beginning at 6:00PM and dinner at

7:00PM.

Directions to the Holiday Inn are easy. When

you get to Williamsburg, take the ―Camp Perry‖ exit

(exit 238) off of I-64. From the westbound direction,

turn left at the top of the ramp, then Pass through

the first stoplight, then turn right at the next

stoplight, and then turn right again at the next

stoplight. That is Bypass Rd., or US Rt. 60. The hotel

is located at the top of the hill, on the right, just past

the Ramada Inn 1776. Come join us.

the St. Pat‘s day parade.

Our annual Bar-B-Que will be Sunday, April17th, 2011.

Schedule your calendar early. All Provost members will

GOLF CLUB

By VP Jerry Edwards

Greetings Nobles,

The Khedive Golf Club would like to congratulate

our newly elected Potentate, Illustrious Donald E.

Meyer and his Divan who will lead us for the upcoming

year. We are looking forward to another fantastic year

of success and Fraternal Unity.

The last two golfing years for the Khedive Golf Club

were enjoyed by our members and guests under the

leadership of Past President, Noble Steve Schaeffer. His

exceptional guidance, knowledge and devotion to detail

made the last two years most enjoyable. Our newly

elected President, Noble Johnnie Chandler has another

great year in store for all Khedive golfers. Our

Secretary/Treasurer is Noble Rod Rushford, Director of

Activities is Noble Harry Polay and our Chaplain is

Dudley T. Myers. Together they ensure everything

functions and runs smoothly.

Last year our Club played approximately 32 golf

outings at fourteen different area golf courses and

we were privileged to donate $4,000 to the

Transportation Fund. The Golf Club sponsored two

teams in the 2010 Khedive Golf Classic and one golf

hole. Past Grand Knight Bob Boyd, Knights of

Columbus, presented the Golf Club with a

generous check of $500 which was forwarded to the

Transportation Fund. Bob was also the 2010 President

of the Law and Disorderly Club and that organization

donated $200 for the Transportation Fund. Our

members and guests are always willing to contribute to

Khedive's worthy cause, 'Crusading for Kids'.

Our first official golf outing for 2011 is scheduled

for March 22 nd at Battlefield Golf Course. If any Noble

wishes to join our group, we will be glad to extend a

welcoming hand. If interested in joining our group,

contact a member or visit the web site at

Our members enjoy golf, the outdoors and the

fellowship of like minded members. So come on out

A special congratulations in

order to our newly elected officers.

They are: John Smith Captain, Jim

Nath First Lieutenant Jack Ryals

Second Lieutenant, and Jimmy

Smith Secretary and Treasurer.

All the members of the Patrol

wish them a very successful year

and offer their full support.

A special congratulations is

in order to our newly elected

Potentate Don Meyer and his

officers. The Arab Patrol wishes

them a very successful year. We

would, also like to congratulate the

Chesapeake Shrine Club on their 25th

Anniversary.

Regrettably we missed a couple

of issues in the Hi-Noble, so I

will try to highlight some of the

activities we enjoyed. The MASA

and SASA Conventions were a

couple of events the Arab Patrol

participated in. The Khedive Open

House and Ceremonial were

enjoyed by all. We enjoyed

volunteering and helping out in the

Oyster Roast and the Seafood

Festival. Everyone enjoyed the

Uniform Units Party.

Speaking of events, the

Chesapeake Shrine Club is to be

commended for coming up with the

idea of combining two or three

Clubs and Units to make events

larger and more successful.

Captain John Smith would

like to take this opportunity to

thank all the Patrol members and

their ladies for volunteering their

services in the various programs. At

our June meeting, we had a treat

one of our oldest Patrolmen Kenny

Harkness was present. Noble

Harkness has been sick for quite a

while and it is good to have him

back. The Arab Patrol supported the

Hospital Transportation Fund with

a hundred dollar donation.

Another congratulations goes

out to our 2011 Captain John Smith.

He has acquired another "Captain's

Hat". He is now in command of his

26 foot cruiser, Velmil Lee. We

wish him smooth sailing on the

Chesapeake Bay. The Arab Patrol

members will be going down

Memory Lane at their meetings.

Captain Jim Smith has copies of the

Hi-Nobles publications since the

1970's. Members will be reading an

article from them at each monthly

meeting.

The members of the Patrol

would like to wish all the Nobles and

their families a Happy and Healthy

New Year.

Again, the Arab Patrol would

like to invite any Noble who is

interested in joining an uniform unit

to pay us a visit; we meet the second

Monday of each month at 6:00 P.M.

at the Temple.

Fraternally,

Jack Ryals

appy New Year from the Scooter Patrol. Each

H New Year is a symbol of hope and a herald for

new beginnings. Congratulations to our newly elected

Divan, led by Illustrious Sir Donald E ―Don‖ Meyer.

Also, congratulations go to Capt. Pat Natividad,

the newly inducted leader of Scooter Patrol. We

know these nobles will do a great job for us. Let us

get behind them and support their programs.

New nobles: get involved, join a unit, and be a part of

making Khedive a great Center.

As we bid goodbye to the old year, we look

back on the milestones we have achieved – from

our personal growth, to accomplishments as a

growing unit. Last fall, the unit participated in the

Ceremonial Parade, followed by the Uniformed Units

Ball, attended by twelve members and their lovely

ladies. Also during this event, we were recognized

and awarded the 3rd Best Decorated Tables. Special

thanks to noble Oscar Obsuna who furnished the

decorations. Furthermore, coinciding with the

ceremony, a 100 Million Dollar Club gift certificate

was presented to Lady Connie, by the secretary of

the Scooter Patrol, in memory of her late husband, Ill

Don McManus. Last November, the unit joined the

successful Urbanna Oyster Festival Parade and the

Lynnhaven Colony Christmas Parade.

SUFFOLK SHRINE CLUB

By President James Salyers Jr.

s we start this year, we look forward to

A another great year at Suffolk Shrine Club.

The club has made many improvements over the

past few years, thanks to the hard work of our club

members. We have a few more projects we still want

to take on.

The Board of Directors has a change this year.

Added to the Board is Vice President Paul Scott and

Director Fred Gardner. With these two added it will

only make a great Board even better.

The spring Fish Fry will take place MARCH 5th. With the support of the all Nobles, we here at Suffolk

know it will be a solid success. The fall Fish Fry will

be October 15. We look forward to seeing everyone

at both.

We welcomed two new members last

fall and accepted two petitions for associate

membership last December. Scooter Patrol‘s last

order of business for the year 2010 was to induct the

slate of new officers that will lead the unit in 2011.

The induction ceremony was held on December 16,

2010. Illustrious Charles E. Lee, PP, duly installed

the 2011 officers and administered the oath of office,

proclaimed by Illustrious Sir Jim Canterbury. The

other notable highlight of the induction ceremony

was the special recognition of the outgoing leader of

the unit, Capt Edward Usita who was presented a

Samurai sword as a token of our deep respect and

admiration for all the good things and great work he

cheerfully accomplished for the unit.

On July 27 th we have our joint

meeting with Sudan. The Hillbillies

will join us for this visit, a great

time for all !!

As President of Suffolk Shrine

Club I am looking forward to working with the

Officers of Khedive Temple and The Officers of the
