A century of memories, artists, fashions…

Galeries lafayette has been innovating every

year for more than a century, keeping pace with

changing times under the all-seeing eye of the

dome, which has been caught on camera by millions

of awestruck visitors.

1 00 years after it was built, Galeries lafayette is

celebrating the dome on boulevard haussmann,

which is an example of art nouveau architecture.

100 years of daring innovation and creativity.

To mark the dome’s 100th birthday, Galeries

lafayette has joined forces with the architect Rem

Koolhaas and his design studio oma to create an

exhibition to be held at the “Galerie des Galeries”.

Louis Vuitton has joined forces with Galeries Lafayette

to celebrate the 100th birthday of the famous dome at Paris’s

most prestigious department store and created several Christmas window

displays on the theme of “The Ball of the Century”.

Galeries lafayette’s stunning art nouveau dome, which is beautifully

decorated with stained glass and byzantine-inspired raised designs, is

synonymous with boulevard haussmann. The department store, which is

preparing to host “Christmas of the Century” to mark the dome’s 100th birthday, has formed an unprecedented partnership with louis vuitton.

Taking inspiration from the dome’s sumptuous architecture, louis vuitton

has created a series of displays on the theme of “The ball of the Century” to

bring the twelve windows on boulevard haussmann to life.

Striking a contrast with the gold tones of the sublime geometric

designs inspired by the dome’s architecture - which bring to mind the

instantly recognizable louis vuitton checkered pattern and monogram -

a menagerie of exotic animals including bears, penguins, pandas and pink

flamingos will form part of a cleverly constructed choreography. from the

four corners of the planet, the animals are a subtle nod to louis vuitton’s

association with travel. The selection of products on display will illustrate the

company’s 158-year history, from vintage luggage to the latest leather goods

and ready-to-wear.

Representing skill, excellence and precision, each window display also

aims to capture the Christmas spirit and dazzle the thousands of people

of all ages who come to admire Galeries lafayette’s Christmas window

displays. and so the displays will reflect the dome’s architecture, luxurious

decorations and clean lines as well as louis vuitton’s attention to detail.

louis vuitton’s “The ball of the Century” window displays at Galeries lafayette will be unveiled

at the official launch on 6 november 2012.

at Galeries Lafayette Haussmann

T o mark the 100th birthday of the dome at Europe’s biggest department

store, SWAROVSKI has created something special: the “SWAROVSKI

Christmas Century Tree at Galeries Lafayette Haussmann.” with a height

of over 21 metres, the exceptionally tall tree is a mix of tradition and moder-

nity. as well as the largest Christmas tree in paris, it’s also the biggest that

swarovski has ever produced in europe since the company was founded

in 1895. decorated with 120 brilliant-cut ornaments, it’s topped with a

majestic 9-metre chandelier made from more than 5,000 SWAROVSKI fa-

cetted crystal stars.

It will be unveiled at 5.30 pm on 6 November 2012 and go on display under the dome until

8 January 2013.

A SWAROVSKI pop-up store will be added to the brand’s permanent sales area

Located by the mogador entrance to Galeries lafayette, the pop-up store

will showcase a “Crystal Forest”, the new retail design by SWAROVSKI.

From 3 to 29 December, the crystal and silver interior will draw visitors into

the spirit and magic of the brand’s collections. Countless gift ideas (jewellery,

watches, accessories and decorative items for men and women) will be

available to help them celebrate Christmas.

at the same time, SWAROVSKI is also decorating the exterior of the Galeries

lafayette store in strasbourg, the city synonymous with Christmas markets

in France. The “swarovski Galeries Lafayette Strasbourg Christmas tree”

on show from 8 november to 5 January 2013 will stand at 8 metres and be

decorated with more than 600 SWAROVSKI facetted crystal stars as well as

a 1.30-metre crowning star.

An expert and leader in cut crystal, SWAROVSKI makes every Christmas

sparkle with Christmas trees around the world: new york, Taiwan, Zurich,

Inspired by the legendary dome, this glorious logo from the start

of the last century reflects Galeries Lafayette’s Art Nouveau influences.

In 1912, Louis Majorelle designed the wrought iron scrolls of the balconies

and in 2012 Galeries Lafayette and the design studio On Aura Tout Vu

have reinterpreted the department store’s initials into a stylish logo

that brings the limited edition “monogram collection”,

a dozen or so fashion accessories, to life.

IPad cases, purses, clutches, cardholders, leather goods…

celebrating the monogram tone on tone on embossed leather

in matt red, chocolate, grey and black.
