The Holidays are Coming! Service Ideas for Your Family!
This season is a wonderful time of year, especially for families. This is a great time to enjoy time together. If you want
meaningful family activities this Holiday season, consider doing a family service project. Here are some fantastic
family service projects for the Holiday season.
Fill a Stocking for a Foster Child
With over 260 children in Grant County Foster Care this project is organized by the Grant
County CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocate for Children in Foster Care). Filling a stocking
for a Foster Child is a fantastic and fun service opportunity that can be fit around your
schedule. The concept is simple. We will provide you a stocking to fill with small gifts for a
child. You can choose whether you want to give to a boy or girl, and there are different age
categories to choose from as well. When you have filled the stocking with toys and other
goodies, you return it and we will give it to the child. This is easy and fun to do. Your child will
love helping to pick out presents to go to another child their age.
Ideas for the stocking include: age appropriate items such as $5 gift cards, blanket, pajamas,
stuffed animals, socks, underwear, books, coloring book/pads of paper, crayons/pen/pencils, school supplies,
chapstick, cosmetics, hair brush/comb, hygiene products, nail polish, toiletries, toothbrush, small games, small toys,
and snacks.
Children living in foster care have had to give up everything from family, home, routine to pets and favorite toys.
When a foster child has to move from home to home, personal items can get lost in the shuffle or left behind. A few of
the most comforting things for a child involve the bedtime routine. Gift cards provide children living in foster homes a
sense of control that many have never experienced, having come from the chaotic environment of abuse or neglect.
Suitcases are always needed as well to give a child a way to pack their items rather than using grocery bags.
Contact Teresa Wyman at 793-6700 x 4426 or twyman@grant.co.wa.us for more information.
Toys for Tots
Donating to Toys for Tots is one of the easiest and most convenient ways to change
someone's Christmas for the better. They take brand new donated toys and
distribute them to children who are less fortunate. You can donate at the Marine
Corps Recruiting office in the Desert Plaza Building at the Corner of Third Ave and
Alder St in Moses Lake from Nov. 5—Dec. 19th or at Sinkiuse Square during the Ag
Parade and Street Party on Nov. 30th in Moses Lake.
Call Sergeant Jimenez at 765-3039 for more information.
Salvation Army
I'm sure you see the red buckets and the ringing bells. The Salvation Army receives
millions of dollars a year to assist needy families, the homeless and the elderly. You
can change Christmas for someone just by offering your spare change on your way in
or out of the store while shopping this season or by volunteering to ring the bell. It’s
a great way to serve as a family! Call Ken Palek at 766-5875 for more information.
The possibilities are endless as to how you can serve others this Holiday season. Not only will you be helping others, it
will help to make the Holidays more meaningful to you and your family. Enjoy yourself and help others!
Every year MLBA purchases
plants from the FFA program
at Moses Lake High School.
The students decide which
plants to ll the pots with
and plant each of the 133+
pots in the LakeTown Landing
area. MLBA then hires a person
to water each and every pot on
a daily basis. At the end of the
season the students as well as
volunteers clean out each pot for
the winter season.
Make a donation to Festival of Trees!
Dear LakeTown Landing business –
Last year the Moses Lake
Business Association was happy to
support Habitat for Humanity’s Festival
of Trees event by decorating a tree
called “Celebrating LakeTown Landing”.
We used brass ornaments from year’s
past depicting scenes of Moses Lake and
under the tree were items from Lake-
Town Landing businesses.
We still have ornaments left
over and have signed up to once again
decorate a tree to be auctioned off at the
Festival of Trees event happening on
Saturday, December 1st.
We want to once again call the
tree “ Celebrating LakeTown Landing”
and feature some of our 200+ businesses
downtown. Would your business
be willing to supply a gift for under the
tree?
Every business that
participates will get their name
attached to their gift under the
tree as well as mentioned in
the tree’s description and logo
included in the full page ad in
the printed program given to
all attendees.
The Moses Lake Business
Association would appreciate
your support. If you have
something to contribute please
contact Marianne at 764-1745 or
drop it off at the MLBA office at
Desert Plaza (Third & Alder).
Thanks again!
