Kansas City: More Fountains than Rome?<br />

Years ago Kansas City, MO ran an advertising campaign with<br />

<strong>the</strong> slogan: “More Boulevards than Paris, more fountains than<br />

Rome.” Rome had aqueducts. Kansas City has <strong>the</strong> Missouri River.<br />

Rome had more sculptures, but fountains? We will present an<br />

illustrated history of <strong>the</strong> public fountains of metropolitan Kansas<br />

City. We invite participants in this program to bring pictures of<br />

<strong>the</strong>ir favorite fountains and to vote on Kansas City’s best. We will<br />

hand out a driving guide to major fountains with some details<br />

on each. Leaders of this seminar are Julie Cirlincuina, author of<br />

“Kansas Outdoor Treasures,” and her fa<strong>the</strong>r, Ronald Miriani, who<br />

taught Kansas City (and Roman) history at Park University.<br />
