2012 PRIMARY SCHOOLS
TENNIS CHAMPIONSHIPS
Schools are invited to send players to represent their school at the
Taranaki Tennis Association Primary/Intermediate Schools Tennis Tournament.
This is an open competition for players up to and including Year 8. There are two
grades: Open (Yr 7 & 8), and Year 6 & under. Each player is guaranteed 2 games.
ON: FRIDAY 26th OCTOBER, 2012 (postponement day Monday 29th October)
AT: Open: Pukekura Park Tennis Club, Upjohn Street, New Plymouth
Year 6 and Under: Huatoki Tennis Club, Huatoki Street, New Plymouth
TIME: 9.00am. Players should bring their lunch and drinks, and be prepared to stay
for the normal school day. Snacks and drinks will be available for
purchase at the venue; cash only accepted.
COST: $5.00 per player.
PLEASE NOTE
The 4 semi-finalists of the Open Grade and winners of the Yr6 and Under Grade must
be prepared to represent Taranaki at the AMI Central Regional Primary Schools
Tournament in Palmerston North on Friday 2nd November 2012.

Tournament Information
Date: Friday 26th October – Report to club room by 8.45.
First matches start by 9.00am. Tournament completed by 3pm.
Venue: Year 6 and Under: Huatoki Tennis Club, Huatoki St, New Plymouth.
Open: Pukekura Park Tennis Club, Upjohn Street, New Plymouth.
Tournament officials have the right to use additional venues if player
numbers deem it necessary.
Eligibility: 1. Each school is entitled to send up to 4 children to this tournament.
This could be any combination of 4 boys or 4 girls or mixed boys and
girls. These players must have played interclub or interschool last
season.
2. If your school has many talented players, schools may be allowed to
send up to 2 more children but they must have already played in at
least one Taranaki Tennis Association tournament (Labour Weekend
Taranaki Junior Open, Sth Grand Prix Tournament, Nth Grand Prix
Tournament) and also have a Configure Express ranking. Please
contact me to confirm these children’s eligibility.
Divisions: Boys Open Boys Year 6 and Under
Girls Open Girls Year 6 and Under
Draws: Draws will be emailed to the email address provided on the application
form and/or posted on Tennis New Zealand's tournament website

Draw type: Each player will be guaranteed at least 2 matches.
Match Length: Year 6 and Under: One set (set: first to win 7 games)
Open: Matches to be the best of 3 short sets (sets: first up to 4 games)
with the semi-finals and finals the best of 3 tiebreaker sets (first up to 6
games) if time allows. Tournament officials have the right to alter the
length of matches if circumstances deem it necessary.
Balls: Wilson balls will be supplied and retained by Taranaki Tennis
Association.
Catering: There will be snacks and drinks available for purchase, however cash
only will be accepted. Children should bring their own lunches.
Weather: If weather is looking doubtful a decision on the tournament will be made
by 8am on tournament day and either postponed to Monday 29th Oct or
cancelled.
Cost: $5.00 per player - payable to Taranaki Tennis Association. Refunds will
be provided if the event is cancelled or if a player cancels 24hrs prior to
start time.
Rules: Tennis New Zealand Rules and Regulations will apply. “Player Code
of Conduct”, “Self-Umpiring Code” and “Guidelines for Parents,
Coaches, Supporters and Spectators” will apply.

Supervision: It is expected that each school participating will have at least one adult
supervisor to look after their school’s participants.
Selections: All semi-finalists of the Open Grade and the winners of the Yr6 and
Under Grade of the Taranaki Primary Schools Championships must be
prepared to represent Taranaki at the AMI Tennis Central Primary
Schools Tournament on Friday 2nd November 2012. If the Taranaki
Championships tournament is cancelled or not completed due to
weather then the representatives will be determined by the Taranaki
Selection Policy.
