P1
Dear Ogre,
On behalf of myself and the
Board of Directors, I wish to welcome
you to OGREs: The Organization of
Gamers & Roleplaying Enthusiasts,
Incorporated. If you are a new member,
welcome to the party! I hope you
find your membership an enjoyable
and rewarding experience. If you are
an established member, thank you for
continuing your adventure with us.
You, the member, are our greatest asset
and we are grateful to have your
talent, enthusiasm, and excitement!
For both new and old members,
I urge you to take some time
and review this Membership Handbook
as it explains how we are structured
and how we operate. It will also
help you become familiar with
OGREs as well as inform you of the
various fun member programs we offer
for our mutual enjoyment. For
those with internet access, please be
sure to visit us online at our E-Lair:
OgreLair.org. This book may seem a
bit tedious at times, but as a registered
entity we are required to have a
set of guidelines to work off of. So
don’t let yourself get bogged down by
the legalese and boring bits you’re
about to dive into - remember to take
a break and pick up your favorite
game manual to remember why we’re
here in the first place!
Again, thank you for your interest
in OGREs! I hope your campaign
with us is filled with fun. For
that is what we are here for … the enjoyment
and appreciation of a collaborative
community!
Sincerely,
Bridget Reed
President, OGREs Inc.
Understanding this
Handbook
The OGREs Membership Handbook
is full of valuable information for members
and prospective members of our club, as
well as media representatives or gaming
company employees. However, at times
some of the terminology used may make it
hard for “outsiders” to coherently follow
and understand the information provided
within.
Below, readers can see some explanations
for the common terms and phrases
unique to OGREs. Hopefully, this information
will provide a easier narrative
throughout the Handbook. A more exhaustive
list of terms can be found in the appendix,
whereas this list just documents
some of the extremely common terms used
within this Handbook.
Awards
Can refer to any of three distinct
programs that benefit and recognize members,
discussed in further detail within.
CC
Short form of Chapter Coordinator,
one of the two permanent offices of each
chapter, and a member of the Primary Officers.
Chapter
Also occasionally called a Tribe, this
refers to a specific grouping of members,
typically central to a singular geographic
location. This is the core unit of the organization
at large.
MHB
A shortened way to refer to this
document: the Membership Handbook.
P2
Oggie/Ogswald
The names Oggie and Ogswald can
be seen attached to many membership
programs. They refer to our mascot, the
fictional Ogre seen in our logo. known as
Ogswald Theodore Henry Eddington Ogre,
or more commonly Oggie The Ogre. Dedicated
members of the club may also be referred
to as “Oggie’s Crew.”
OGREs/Ogres/
Ogre/O.G.R.E.s
One common area of confusion is
the myriad variances of our club’s acronym:
OGREs. Throughout this Handbook,
and also typically in any type of communications
released by OGREs, these uses
break down as follows:
 OGREs/O.G.R.E.s
Either ways is “correct,” and refers
to the organization at large. Can be identified
by the use of capitalization on the first
four letters of the acronym.
 Ogres/Ogre
This version, without the full capitalization
of the four letters, is used to refer
to a group of members or an individual
member of the organization.
So, for example - the odd sentence
“John Doe is a veteran ogre having joined
OGREs a decade ago” can refer to both at
once.
Rank
Refers to a fictitious ranking structure,
similar to those found within military
organizations, that OGREs uses to help
distinguish long-standing members and
officers, discussed in further detail within.
SGM
Short form of Senior Game Master,
one of the two permanent offices of each
chapter, and a member of the Primary Officers.
Other Handbooks
These are supplemental documents
released by OGREs for use by members
who wish to get a deeper understanding of
the club or a specific program or to assist
an officer or member in a specific role.
The Editor-in-Chief, an officer on
the Board of Directors, is responsible for
the updating and releasing of these supplements.
Any member may find a copy on
OgreLair.org or request one from the Editor-in-Chief
via his or her contact information
in the appendix of this handbook.
Awards Pamphlet
A more detailed publication dedicated
to the three official awards programs
of OGREs: the standardized awards, the
Ogswald Academy awards, and the OGRE
awards more commonly referred to as the
OGGIEs.
Camp Oggie
Coordinator’s Manual
A How-To guide for chapters/
members preparing to submit a proposal
package to host the semi-annual OGREswide
weekend campout known as Camp
Oggie.
Chapter Coordinator’s
Manual
A guide and How-To for current
Chapter Coordinators to perform well in
their officership. Typically, these are updated
by former Chapter Coordinators
with ideas and tips.
Committee Handbook
A guide for members of the permanent
committees that are created by the
Board of Directors.
P3
Complete Corpora
A compilation of all legal OGREs
documents, such as the constitution, bylaws,
and annual filing statements. Quite
possibly the most boring read of all documents.
Convention Support
Manual
Both a guide for non-members who
run conventions to approach and utilize
local OGREs chapters to run their analog
gaming events as well as a guide for chapters/members
to run said events.
Merchandise Catalog
A catalog of official merchandise
available for purchase from the OGREs at
any given time. Prominently featuring our
beloved and idolized “biker patches” that
identify our chapter of membership.
Ranks Pamphlet
A more exhaustive understanding of
the OGREs Rank Structure, with proper
promotion and rank display protocols.
Senior Game
Master’s Manual
A guide and How-To for current
Senior Game Masters to perform well in
their officership. Typically, these are updated
by former Senior Game Masters with
ideas and tips.
ORCs
An acronym standing for the
“OGREs Revised Combat System” which is
a easily accessible boffer combat larp game
for those chapters wishing to partake in
boffer-style games without the bureaucracy
of national boffer clubs.
OGREs: The Organization of Gamers
& Roleplaying Enthusiasts, Incorporated
is a not-for-profit 501(c)7 club headquartered
in the Commonwealth of Kentucky
with (as of this publication’s update)
40 chapters across three continents. The
club’s goal is to promote analog gaming;
network together tabletop hobbyist; and to
advocate for the documented benefits that
imaginative cooperative storytelling provides.
History of OGREs
The abbreviated moniker of OGREs
has existed loosely since the 1980s when it
was a descriptive term used on the west
coast of the United States to identify tabletop
gamers. The foundation for our adoption
of the title began on May 24th, 2005
when a group of Las Vegas, Nevada area
gamers created an online group to help
promote and network local players. Having
to land on a name, the group eventually
voted on “Sin City Ogres” and created the
original logo still in use today.
This group was found online by a
Midwest campaign who, with permission,
adopted the same naming style and logo
use. This group, the Quilt City Ogres of Paducah,
Kentucky began to branch out and
help other groups take on the moniker.
Eventually, with over a dozen groups using
the name and logo, the Quilt City Ogres
spearheaded the incorporation of the club
you’re now a part of, and OGREs, Inc. was
born.
Since that day in 2010, the club has
grown exponentially and is the largest
gamer-ran, independent all-inclusive tabletop
club in the world. Unlike similar
clubs that focus on one game, style, company,
or system - of gaming, OGREs has
found its niche in supporting and networking
them all together.
U1
Basic Organizational
Structure
As a large network of localized,
mostly independent functioning chapters,
OGREs has a unique social infrastructure
that - when working perfectly, is rarely
even seen. These are discussed in detail
and a more cohesive flowchart can be seen
on the following page.
At the most basic and most important
level is the local chapter, which is
required to have only two officers: the
Chapter Coordinator (CC), who is responsible
for the non-gaming related
maintenance of the chapter; and the Senior
Game Master (SGM), who is responsible
for scheduling and coordinating
the chapter’s events. These offices are
elected by each respective chapter for three
year terms, and their specific duties are
discussed in more detail further in this
handbook, and a chapter may decide to
have their own additional officers if they
feel it necessary. These typically include
Webmaster and/or Community Manager,
Treasurer, or Recruiter.
The two core officers, the CC and
the SGM, together hold that chapter’s seat
on the Primary Officers. The Primary
Officers only meets if any particular chapter
has an issue or issues they’d like to discuss
that could potentially change or alter
the basic functionality of OGREs, Inc., or if
they wish to negate actions taken by the
Board of Directors. This group holds the
raw power to dictate the long-range goals
and policies of the club.
Handling the day-to-day functions
of the club as a registered entity and ensuring
the stability of OGREs is the Board
of Directors, an elected board consisting
of ten members from any chapter of
OGREs who sit for three year terms.

U2
Membership
within OGREs
Any individual of any race, sex, religious
belief, sexual identity, age, place of
residence, or any other identifying aspect
may seek membership in OGREs. Membership
in OGREs, Inc. is free though local
chapters may have dues if they wish. Even
if a chapter has no dues, some small financial
contribution may become expected for
game site hosting, food, events, or similar.
Check with your local chapter for details. If
there is not a local chapter in your area,
look for details further in this handbook on
how you can start one yourself.
Every chapter may identify membership
in different ways - from separating
active current members from associate inactive
ones, support members like spouses
or children, or if they have dues separating
dues paid and not paid. Chapters are free
to dictate their own membership definitions
as long as they do not exclude any
potential member on the basis of any identifying
aspect (race, sex, etc. etc.). OGREs,
Inc. will only recognize members as those
listed on the official OgreLair.org roster for
that chapter, which is why an important
aspect of every Chapter Coordinator’s job
is to keep that roster up to date.
Because we are a social club with
members from all walks of life, OGREs is
very proactive in establishing a set of rules
to help curtail any harassment or rude actions
between members. This is seen most
clearly in the OGREs Members Rights
& Responsibilities, commonly referred
to as the R&R. Members are granted certain
rights, much of which is common
sense - but these rights are dependant on
that member following the responsibilities
put forth here in this handbook. Failure to
maintain responsibilities may negate a
member’s rights within OGREs. These issues
are handled on a case-by-case basis
by the Inquisitor, a member of the Board.
These Rights include, but are not
limited to:
Right to pursue level of membership
wanted, and right to change or end
membership without retribution.
Right to transfer from one chapter of
OGREs to any other chapter, at any
time, for any reason, without problem.
Right to participate in Chapter, Regional,
and International OGREs functions
to the fullest extent desired.
Right to pursue any level of involvement
within the organizational structure
of OGREs.
Right to due process in the event of a
disagreement.
Right to be considered for involvement
in any OGREs program or function.
 Right to voice your opinion.
and most importantly, the
 Right to have fun!
The Responsibilities of membership
within OGREs are outlined here:
Responsibility to behave in a manner
that brings credit to self, chapter, and
OGREs, Inc.
Responsibility to praise in public and
critique in private.
Responsibility to show courtesy to fellow
Ogres at all times.
Responsibility to never assume, but always
verify.
Responsibility to be resolute in the performance
of OGREs duties or officership
as well as the execution of policy
and regulation.
Responsibility to aid in diffusing confrontations,
and to strive to never cause
them.
Responsibility to listen to both sides of
a dispute and act upon verifiable facts,
not innuendo or assumptions.
 Responsibility to strive for impartiality
and fairness in decisions and to excuse
self from said decision making process
if judgment may be compromised.
U3
These listed Rights and Responsibilities
are what officers within OGREs refer
to during disputes, and OGREs, Inc.
will always take a liberal definition of both.
When, in the unfortunate event that
a dispute has occurred, the following procedures
should be taken:
1. Reach out to local chapter officers for
assist in mediating. Hopefully, this
should end the problem. However,
should an officer be involved in the initial
dispute, or you not feel satisfied
with their decision, you should:
2. Submit a ticket to the Inquisitor, an individual
elected to the Board of Directors
who is solely there to help settle
problems and get everyone back to having
a good time as soon as possible. Remember
that you should provide a
clear, concise explanation of the issue
without any heated language, and do
not make any accusations that you can
not verify or provide proof of. This will
help streamline your ticket.
This set of guidelines here is hopefully
something you or your friends in your
local chapter should never have to use. But
in case you do, we have the structure in
place to ensure that any potential issue is
handled as rapidly and appropriately as
possible.
REMEMBER:
These rules only apply
to OGREs issues among
members. If the law
has been broken,
contact local
police
immediately!
Getting beyond the R&R, membership
comes with many basic benefits. Besides
being the largest and most inclusive
network of analog gamers under one banner
in the world, OGREs has many programs
and events which can become a fun
aspect of membership. These include, but
are not limited to:
Awards Program
Our members may receive recognition
for both in-game and out-of-game actions.
This fun program acknowledges the
skills and accomplishments of members as
well as their devotion to the club.
Camp Oggie
Only members of OGREs may attend
this semi-annual weekend camping
and gaming extravaganza - Camp Oggie.
Hosted in different locations by different
chapters every time, it is a fun and unique
get away in lieu of the traditional convention
weekend.
Convention Support
Many of our members help organize
or even run conventions in their area, and
OGREs provides a support structure to
help make sure any analog aspect of their
convention can run smoothly. From providing
GMs or just general promotion.
Additionally, members attending a
convention can receive aid in running
games or events as an attendee.
Local Chapter
Websites & Email
Every chapter of OGREs is able to
receive a free subdomain of OgreLair.org
as well as email redirects for their officers
or active members. The Director of Communications
can help aid any chapter in
setting any of these up, and they’re highly
recommended for recruitment purposes.
U4
Merchandise
Members and chapters have access
to official OGREs Oggie the Ogre Merchandise,
including apparel, patches, and
electronics.
Ogswald Academy
and aids on character creation or game
mastering, or even out-of-game advocacy
for the hobby itself.
ORCs
Free of other large-scale boffer
groups, ORCs - the OGREs Revised Combat
System - is a very accessible, lighttouch,
easy-to-understand combat system
for those chapters wishing to pursue LARP
Boffer Combat sports without the hassle of
getting involved with other groups.
Playtesting Program
Promotional Support
Chapters have access to stock
OGREs Promotional Materials to help promote
their chapter.
Rank Advancement
rank and be promoted up within OGREs.
Voting
Only members may vote!
Earlier we took a brief glance at the
structure that makes up the inner workings
of OGREs. Here, we will delve deeper
into the exacts of each level of OGREs for a
more exhaustive and clear understanding
of how our club functions.
Chapter Structure
Every chapter - or sometimes tribe,
of OGREs is a grouping of gamers sharing
the same geographical location who network
together to promote and increase tabletop
and analog gaming in their area. As
mentioned before, each chapter has two
officers. Here, their roles are more defined:
 Chapter Coordinator
The CC is responsible for recruitment,
retention, updating the OgreLair.org
chapter roster, chapter finances, chapter
online websites and/or groups, informing
the board about rank advancements or
award nominations, new member introduction,
local level conflict resolution, and
communication between the chapter and
OGREs, Inc.
 Senior Game Master
The SGM is responsible for maintaining
and updating the chapter game calendar
and schedule, finding host sites,
GMs, networking new members to established
campaigns, local level conflict resolution,
in-game disputes, and any cheating
or Metagaming.
Each position is elected by local
chapter members for three year terms, and
there is no limit to the number of terms a
member may hold the position. The chapter
may also vote to set up secondary officers
to help alleviate some of the duties
from either, which is a very good idea for
O1
chapters with more than 50 active members.
Some of the more common secondary
officers include:
 Community Manager
Though websites are encouraged if
for nothing more than a landing page for
promotion, the best way currently to host
member areas online are via social networks
like facebook. These groups require
an admin, and sometimes the CC or SGM
may be too busy. A community manager
can help approve new members, prevent
spam, and act as an initial point of contact
for basic questions.
 Recruiter
Only viable for extremely large
chapters, this individual can help recruit
and retain members who may not “hold
the spotlight” or “be as vocal” as other
members. Different personalities are great,
but sometimes in big chapters the more
quiet types may not get the attention they
deserve to feel wanted and remain active.
A dedicated support person such as a recruiter
or member liaison can aid in this.
 Treasurer
Should a chapter elect to have dues
or host fundraisers, a treasurer may be
necessary to bring in a third person solely
to oversee those funds. It is recommended
that this person be at least 21 years of age
and have a solid track record of financial
management. It is not necessary for local
chapters to file for non-profit, but since
OGREs is a 501(c)7 and not a 501(c)3
chapters will be expected to pay taxes on
any purchases. Chapters should keep a record
of finances as good form. Google docs
provides an easy system to store an excel
file that can be shared when new officers
take over.
For the most part, chapters exist
rather independently of OGREs, Inc. and
take care of their own needs. However,
when discussion is necessary with OGREs,
Inc. the next step up is the Regional Coordinator.
Regions
Regions are a very basic grouping of
geographically-close chapters to help give
a contact person between the board and
that area. Currently, regions are broken
down simply by international time zone
and the coordinator is simply the longest
standing Chapter Coordinator.
Really, regions are simply a preemptive
structural tool to aid in inner
working as we continue to grow. However,
it is not expected to be necessary or viable
for a few more years. Check this section in
an updated manual in 2016, and you
should see more functions for regions!
Primary Officers
Consisting of the CC and SGM of
every chapter, who collectively cast one
vote for their chapter, the Primary Officers
is the long-range policy planner and task
setter for OGREs, Inc as well as a checksand-balances
against the Board of Directors.
The Primary Officers only meets if
called upon, and any CC or SGM of any
chapter has the ability to call for an online
PO meeting. The Director of Communications
for the Board of Directors will then
set up and reach out to the chapters in a
timely manner.
The Board of Directors is required
by policy to pursue any action or task that
a majority vote of the Primary Officers sets
forth, even if it negates previous Board
plans or programs.
Board of Directors
Consisting of ten members from
any chapter, the Board is in charge of the
O2
legal upkeep of the organization as well as
the day-to-day running. The Board meets
once quarterly for review and tasks.
Though every board member holds an
equal vote, some hold certain positions
that may or may not be filled depending on
needs. More exhaustive details about each
office and its requirements can be found in
the constitution later in this handbook.
These positions include:
 President (or Arbiter or Director)
The head of OGREs, Inc. runs meetings
and only votes in tie-breakers. This
figurehead is the central Public Relations
identity of OGREs, Inc. The President is
voted in by the incoming board from
among themselves prior to the beginning
of the new board’s term.
 Vice President (or Vice Director)
Selected personally by the President,
the Vice is responsible for aiding the
President or filling his/her shoes if he/she
is absent.
 Supreme Game Master
Coordinates with chapter-level senior
game master and aids in any in-game
conflict resolutions. Is in charge of any
OGREs-ran “living campaigns” such as the
homebrew settings of Valgora or Altren.
 Director of Communications
(or Herald)
Probably the most visible member
of the board as he or she is responsible for
running the Public Relations and Member/
Chapter Outreach that gets information
between the board and the public.
Collectively, the President, Supreme Game
Master, and Director of Communications
form the central block of the board that
can be held legally responsible should any
issues ever come up. However, they hold
no true exercisable power over “lower” po-
sitions on the board, which include:
 Treasurer (or Comptroller)
In charge of any and all OGREs,
Inc. finances. Should the finances be low
enough that the board not deem it necessary
to fill this position, the responsibilities
fall to the Director of Communications.
 Editor-in-Chief
Responsible for the publication, editing,
and upkeep of all OGREs manuals
(such as this handbook) and any Board
press releases. Should the board not deem
it necessary to fill this position, the responsibilities
fall to the Director of Communications.
 Inquisitor
Responsible for conflict resolution
and the handling of delicate internal issues
in a fair manner. Should board not deem it
necessary to fill this position, the responsibilities
fall to the Supreme Game Master.
 Webmaster (or Loremaster)
Responsible for the upkeep of Ogre-
Lair.org and the oversight of any online
affiliate projects.
 Ambassador
The chairperson for the Committee
on Gaming Advocacy, responsible for promoting
the hobby and its factually positive
benefits to the general public and media
and to combat any negative, false news.
The Primary Officers may vote to
expand the Board of Directors to more
members if it is ever felt necessary, and
they or the board may choose to create
new positions or slots if they become fundamentally
necessary to the running of the
club as a whole.
O3
Affiliations
Outside OGREs
OGREs, Inc. is by far not the only
gaming club in existence, and as such and
Ogre should seek to coexist with other
gaming groups. Members may actually enrich
their hobby experience by seeking
dual membership within OGREs and other
groups. Many potential members of
OGREs may also be found within these
other groups to be brought in to our fold as
well!
Keep in mind that most other gaming
groups center around a particular
game, game system, company, or style of
gaming. OGREs, however, reaches across
all platforms, styles, and genres of tabletop
and analog gaming to be all-inclusive. This
is our greatest benefit in recruiting new
members.
Here is a brief list of some other organizations
which you may benefit from
learning about and potentially joining:
 Amtgard - Light-touch boffer combat
 Belegarth - Structured boffer club
Camarilla - White Wolf’s World of
Darkness larping club
 Dagohir - Structured boffer club
Darkon - Heavy combat boffer club
 Collegiate Association of Tabletop
Gamers - A college-only network of
campus-based tabletop clubs
Pathfinder Society - Paizo’s living campaign
club for Pathfinder
RPGA - Wizards of the Coast collective
D&D living campaigns club
Though we are always growing,
OGREs may not yet have a present in your
area. If we do not, we’re here to help YOU
establish our presence and begin a rewarding
relationship with us in your region.
Before starting a chapter, you’ll
want to make sure we don’t have one near
you. The best way to do this is by use of the
Chapter Locater.
Chapter Locater
Found on the official website of
OGREs, OgreLair.org, is our Chapter Locater.
This tool is a clickable map-based
searching tool that lets you see if there are
any chapters in or around your area.
If you do locate a chapter in your
city or region, simply click the icon to gain
more detailed information, such as contact
details for chapter officers. Hook up with
this chapter to further your membership
with OGREs, Inc. However, if you are not
C1
able to locate a chapter in your area, or if
your chapter will serve a different unique
function than one within distance to you, it
is then time to begin the process of starting
your own. The first step in this process is
determining what type of chapter you
would like to create.
Types of Chapters
There are four different types of
chapters that one may participate in or
create. Make sure to put a great deal of
thought into what type of chapter will best
suit your player’s needs.
 City Chapter
The most common type of OGREs
chapter is the city chapter, which as its
name suggests is a physical chapter of
OGREs based around a particular city or
region.
 School Chapter
A school chapter may exist as part
of a larger city chapter; alongside a city
chapter; or independent of a city chapter.
In a large city with a large amount of
OGREs, the school chapter may meet on
campus (if in college) or afterhours (if in
high school). Though they may share
members with a larger city chapter, a
school chapter tends to play together more
often than not.
Unique among all types of chapters
is that most school chapters will require a
staff member’s blessing and potentially
school board approval before being recognized
by the school as an official student
club.
 Church Chapter
Centered around a particular house
of worship, church chapters tend to operate
in much the same manner as a school
chapter just with the host site being a place
of worship.
 Cyber Chapter
The least common type of chapter is
the cyber chapter, which is a group of playby-post
online gamers networked together.
Usually operating off of a particular website
or forum, these gamers tend to play
together solely online.
A member of a physical chapter
may also participate with a cyber chapter,
but if so the physical chapter will always be
considered that member’s main chapter
for the purposes of awards, rank advancement,
and voting eligibility.
Chapter Names
The name of your chapter will be
heard throughout your region and should
be instantly recognizable and understandable
by your target audience. In order to
do this, the name should convey to key
points: 1) you are affiliated with OGREs,
C2
and 2) you are centered around a certain
city/region/school/house of worship/
website/etc. The most common method of
doing this is by utilizing a well-known
nickname for your city.
For some cities - such as Chicago,
Illinois, that nick name (Windy City
OGREs) is well known world wide but for
other cities - such as Paducah, Kentucky,
their nickname (Quilt City OGREs) may
only be known to locals. Regardless, the
only point that matters is that locals know
you’re referring to the region.
So, take a look at your city. Does it
have a common nickname known to most?
It is important to avoid “underground” or
“counter-culture” parody nicknames as
they will only be known to some and may
even alienate others. If your city does not
have a readily identifiable nickname, look
for key figures locally historically or landmarks.
For example, the city of Owensboro
does not have a well-known nickname, but
they are known for being the home of the
factory that builds Corvettes. As such,
those players chose the name Vette City
OGREs.
School or Church chapters will typically
follow whatever rules that their host
institutes require, though OGREs, Inc.
does require that OGREs be in the name.
The OGREs of UT Martin is an example of
a collaborative effort to meet the demands
of a school and OGREs, Inc. for a name,
when the school did not wish for the chapter
to be named simply UT Martin OGREs.
Cyber chapters are unique and depending
on their URL or hostsite name
may have an easy time or an extremely difficult
time landing on a name. Follow the
same two-points ideology in deciding the
name and you’ll still reach the target audience
you wish to.
Once selected and the contract is
sent in (see further in this section), the
Board of Directors will give final approval
and you may begin promotion!
Chapter Officers
As discussed previously, every chapter
will have two officers: the chapter coordinator
(CC) and the senior game master
(SGM). However, an upstart small chapter
may begin with just one individual filling
both roles.
Do not worry if you have yet to locate
a second individual to fill the other
office at creation. Presumably, you (the
person spearheading creating the chapter)
are currently serving the function of chapter
coordinator. Simply continue to do so
and help coordinate games, and hopefully
within 6 months you can host your own
local elections to fill both slots for their
first three year terms officially.
Starting off, your chapter should
avoid requiring dues or creating assistant
office positions. Only an established chapter
that can provide valid reasoning and
quantifiable benefits for dues should ever
pursue such, and a small upstart chapter
creating too many offices will just be fluff.
Membership Roster
One of your first responsibilities as
an upstart chapter will be to create your
first official roster of members. Your
chapter may determine how you identify
members as long as you meet all requirements
previously laid out within this handbook.
This roster should be provided to
the Director of Communications as soon as
possible and updated quarterly.
Failure to maintain the roster can
prevent members from being granted access
to all member programs, and may
prevent them from utilizing their voting
privileges during OGREs, Inc. elections.
Promoting Your Chapter
Now that you’re off the ground a bit,
it is time to look at ways to begin increasing
your chapter’s brand recognition and
awareness to local gamers. There are sev-
C3
eral ways to do this, but listed here are
some of the best tips we’ve found that do
the trick:
1. Print Promos (Flyers, Business cards)
 Avoid mass random placement of
flyers. Instead, place solely in appropriate
places (such as in the Table of Contents
area of all RPG books in the gaming
section of local stores).
Brand all promos with the Oggie the
Ogre logo, and try to stick to the same
color scheme and font for all your
chapters prints to create familiarity.
2. Online Promos (Websites, Links)
 Create a facebook group. Statistically
this is how the majority of individuals
spend their time on the internet,
and not doing so will just stagnate
the potential growth of your roster.
 Utilize the free OgreLair.org subdomain.
This can be done without cost to
youror your chapter by creating a page
with a free ad-based website host service.
These are too numerous to list,
but more popular ones include Wix,
Guildlaunch, and Wikia. Then the
Board will redirect your OgreLair.org
domain there.
Have an easily visible and understandable
weekly schedule posted. This
has been a key piece of feedback from
newer members who needed something
firm to actually take the leap and reach
out to a chapter they found online.
Chapter Contract
Found in the back of this handbook
and on OgreLair.org. Follow the directions
and send it in to the provided contact.
Only contracted chapters may use the
OGREs name and logo, and groups using
them without a contract will be prosecuted
to the fullest extent of the law in order to
preserve our brand for gamers.
Membership in OGREs can be a fun
and rewarding experience, resulting in
new friends and memories that can last a
lifetime. As with any club, a member will
tend to get in return equal to what they put
into the club. Simply put, the more you involve
yourself within your local chapter or
the club as a whole, the more rewarding
and enjoyable your membership will be.
These are just a few of the perks
members enjoy regardless of chapter,
though you may have additional ones
based on your local chapters. These perks
are only available to members!
Defining ‘Member’
Only a local chapter may determine
who is or is not listed on their OgreLair.org
roster, and it is the chapter coordinator’s
duty to keep the roster updated via constant
contact with the Director of Communications.
The importance of this task can not
be over-stressed. Accurate numbers are
important not only on a chapter level, but
help us as an officially recognized organization
file legal paperwork annually and
apply for benefits and perks.
If you feel you should be a member,
but are not listed on your local chapter’s
roster, then contact your CC for help.
M1
Should you be seeking membership
but not have a current chapter, or are mobile
quite a bit, you can contact the Director
of Communications to be listed as a
Nomad member. Nomad members receive
all the rights of membership, though they
have no current chapter to call home. This
type of membership is great for individuals
who travel a lot, or who are away for an
extended time from their home town.
OGREs Playtesting Pool
Periodically OGREs receives prerelease
beta versions of upcoming games
from small press or indie companies who
are seeking feedback and suggestions on
their products. When this occurs, OGREs,
Inc. sends the material on a rotating basis
to different chapters that have expressed
interest in that products genre or system
or type of game.
This feature allows individual chapters
to receive gaming material for free,
but also to allow their members to have a
voice in official publications and to receive
credit for their playtesting. Contact the
current Supreme Game Master for more
details on how to begin playtesting with
your chapter and to determine what is expected
from playtesters.
OGRE Game Labs
Created and ran by one of our cherished
nomad members from Arizona,
OGRE Game Labs is an online, forumbased
tool that allows members to get together
to discuss homebrew ideas they
have for new games or game customization,
as well as to play by post.
Account creation requires approval
and authorization, so send an email to dircomms@ogrelair.org
with your name and
chapter and the email you would like your
M2
invite sent to. Once approved, you’ll be
able to join in on phenomenal discussions
such as game design, mechanics, publication
legalities, and more.
In addition to the concept development,
there are also hosted play-by-post
games for members of any chapter to game
with others. One of the breakout stars of
these is the High Fantasy Football League
which - though promoted through multiple
mediums, is actually ran and updated on
the site.
The Ogswald Academy
Located on OgreLair.org, the academy
is a unique resource for members who
can partake in basic online courses that
can teach them anything from basic standards
common in tabletop roleplaying
games - to more in-depth heavy subjects
such as the myths, lies, and misconceptions
related to the history of the hobby.
Members may even be awarded
“degrees” according to their field of
courses and number taken, and though
completely unaccredited (this should really
go without saying) it can help an individual
become a better gamer and gaming advocate.
In order to enroll for a class, simply
visit OgreLair.org and locate the Academy
link. Choose the school you wish to enter -
The Oggie Institute, which centers around
hobby related items like advocacy and
leadership and the club itself; or the Institute
of Gaming, which centers around
gaming standards and types of characters.
Awards
OGREs runs three distinct awards
programs to benefit members and our
club. The most commonly referred to program
when the word ‘awards’ is used refers
to our members awards program, which is
a series of earnable awards to recognize
members, chapters, and sometimes even
non-members for their actions and efforts.
A second member based awards program
is the academy awards, for members who
take courses at The Ogswald Academy.
Outside members, the most wellknown
set of awards that OGREs, Inc. runs
is the annual Ogre Awards, which are
much more commonly known by people as
the OGGIEs. This is a set of awards given
to companies and individuals within the
tabletop and live action gaming hobby to
show appreciation for their contributions.
Although similar to the much large and
more prestigious ENnie Awards or Origin
Awards, the OGGIEs are much looser in
requirements and are simply an annual
look at what members have enjoyed that
particular year - not necessarily a look at
the best of any releases from any specific
year.
In the next section, you’ll find a listing
of previous winners of the more prestigious
or once-annual member awards, as
well as the OGGIEs. Here you can find a
brief overview of the available awards.
Member Awards
Some of these awards will list
“annual award” at the end of their description.
This means that these awards can
only be given out once per calendar year.
Any member may nominate any member
(including themselves!) for an award at
any time by contacting any member of the
Board of Directors. The Director of Communications
or Supreme Game Master
may be the easiest to reach for these purposes.
M3
Each award is listed in the following
format:
X) Award Name
-What the printed award usually reads
-A brief explanation of why the award is
given.
winner receiving a Golden Oggie Statuette
Ranks
OGREs utilizes a customized rank
structure, similar to paramilitary organizations,
that signifies those members who
have either been around longer or assisted
the club through officer work. These ranks
are no indication of “power” or
“superiority” over any other member, but
simply allow a quick and easily identifiable
way for individuals to recognize more seasoned
Ogres.
Patches are available for display on
OGREs wear, and the logos are available
for use by members online. Chapter Coordinators
and Senior Game Masters are responsible
for the maintaining of their roster’s
appropriate ranks. An easy way to
handle this is to update ranks at the same
time and in the same email as when the
roster is quarterly updated.
Use of a rank insignia or title that
has not been earned is considered rude
and ridiculous, as they give no power.
Cadet Ranks
The Cadet Corps is a ranking system
for the extreme young members of OGREs,
typically those below the age of thirteen.
These members may still have a rank name
and insignia, though the prefix "Cadet-
" will follow. Thus, a member below the
age of 13 who has fulfilled all the requirements
and been promoted to Corporal will
be known as a Cadet-Corporal. After turning
thirteen, the individual will remove the
Cadet term from their rank, and will then
be considered the full rank.
Enlisted Ranks
These are ranks that members of
any chapter may go by without ever having
been an Officer in any capacity within
OGREs. Note that the standard recommended
prerequisites for promotion may
be ignored by a chapter officer if they believe
that the member has showed enough
M8
effort or done something special to deserve
the award or any other proper reason.
Officer Ranks
These are ranks that members
must have held an Officer position in some
caliber in order to obtain. Note that the
requirements may be ignored by Officers if
the receiving individual is deemed worthy,
which may result from a member receiving
awards or providing several services to
a chapter. In these cases, promotion requires
the consent of that chapter’s CC and
SGM.
Promotion & Demotion
Any member may nominate another
member or themselves for promotion. A
their position without successfully
completing their term of office
3. By recommendation of the Inquisitor
following a complaint, and with agreement
from the board of directors.
Unless one of the above happens,
rank promotion is a constant uphill
achievement for members of OGREs, and
just another way to recognize service and
assistance to the club and other members.
Camp Oggie
Camp Oggie is a semi-annual gaming
extravaganza and celebration hosted
by differing OGREs Chapters. In addition
to gaming, the event includes outdoor activities,
annual awards presentations, and
public rank advancement.
Any chapter of OGREs may host the
camp any year, by simply providing a proposal
to the Board of Directors at least 10
months in advance of their proposed date.
Camp Oggie is usually hosted on
camping ground, with cabins available and
room for those who prefer to pitch a tent.
Amenities such as showers depend upon
the exact location for each year. Food is
purchased and cooked by the host chapter,
who provide meals for attendees. Any entrance
cost to Camp Oggie is to offset the
cost of renting the land and buying the
food, and it goes directly to the local host
chapter to divide as they see fit among
their members.
The camp includes an on-site library
of games for pick-up gaming, as well
as usually a few scheduled games. Evening
campfires (unless a burn ban is in effect in
the area) are common, and the weekend
long "Camp Oggie Murder Mystery" party
game goes on as well as usually live action
boffer combat gaming.
The unique setup of Camp Oggie
requires only two universal rules that all
hosts must follow: alcohol can only be
used if not disallowed by the land owner
(as common on federal locations or scout
venues) but must always be a “byob” situation
and those who drink must create a
second campfire ring or gaming table so
that no minors may inadvertently gain access
to alcohol; and smokers of tobacco
products must utilize a designated smoking
area that is somewhat removes from
the rest of the attendees. Any other rules
may be dictated by the host chapter or
land owner if appropriate.
M10
Any chapter may submit a proposal
to host the Camp Oggie on a campsite of
their choosing, typically closer to their city
of charter, by contacting the Director of
Communications and requesting a proposal
packet. Mostly, theBoard of Directors
will just need to know a budget to approve
for the rental and any cost associated
with the location or other amenities,
as well as the rules associated with the
campsite, such as coed rules and regulations
related to alcohol.
Merchandise
Only members of OGREs are allowed
to wear apparel that features the
Oggie the Ogre logo, and many types of
clothing or accessories can be found to
purchase on OgreLair.org. Chapters are
permitted to create their own material that
may be altered to include their chapter
name and location, though it is requested
that the Director of Communications and/
or Treasurer of the Board be notified if doing
so. If there are any profits from the
sale of merchandise, the chapter may use it
as it sees fit legally.
Only one item must be purchased
through licensed OGREs, Inc. vendors,
and that is our Club Patch and Ranks.
Links for these items are found on the official
website, and if a member honestly
thinks they can locate a better vendor they
may make a proposal to the board to alter,
add, or change our licensed vendors.
OgreLair.org
Our club’s official “e-lair” and home
online, and our constant work-in-progress.
Currently, the website is wiki-based and a
bastion of knowledge. However, hopefully
when you read this handbook’s 2014 update
you’ll see a vast change as we’re currently
developing a membership database
that will allow easier tracking of rosters
and awards and allow a more marketable
website design.
With that in mind, if your chapter
includes among its members anyone familiar
with programming - send them to the
Board!
For now, the website can be used as
an informational portal about OGREs as
well as a simple way to locate current
chapters or follow up on current news or
actions taken by the board.
In addition to the official website,
OGREs maintain a Facebook Page, Facebook
Group, and twitter. Our facebook
group is meant to serve as a way for members
of all chapters to talk with each other
about the hobby we share, though we encourage
every chapter to keep its own local
facebook group for game planning. These
types of interactive discussions are the
strength of our club and one of the best
ways to enjoy membership within.
To make sure you’re up to date with
OGREs, Inc., your CC and SGM should
check the news feeder on OgreLair.org
monthly and if possible subscribe to the
facebook page and join the group!
Board of Directors
The current members of the Board took office on January 1st, 2013 and their
term will expire on December 31st, 2015. Details on how to run for the board and how
elections are handled can be found within the constitution later in this handbook.
It is recommended that all chapter officers keep this section nearby, for ease of
contacting any needed board member. Please streamline any contact to the most appropriate
board member to eliminate any delay in response. If you are unsure who
could best serve you, contact the Director of Communications.
Should you not receive contact back from the board member you email within a
reasonable time frame (typically around one week, though holidays and weekends may
prolong) then attempt to reach the Director of Communications or your local chapter
officers for help in reaching the individual.
Items that are being sent with the request that the Board discuss them at their
next quarterly board meeting need to be sent at least two weeks prior to said meeting to
be placed on the agenda. Send these items to the Inquisitor and copy them to the Director
of Communications.
If you have an emergency which could affect the health or safety of any member
then you should be contacting the proper authorities first.

Use of the OGREs Logo
The OGREs logo variants currently
in-use were made by Mike Sanchez of the
are taken and used for each chapter with
permission from the original creator of the
logo. Use of the logo is permitted only for
the following reasons:
 Officially recognized chapters affiliated
with OGREs, inc
Use of the OGGIEs variant by winners
of the award on appropriate products
or places
For all purposes that would fall under
the ‘Fair Use’ clause, such as descriptions
of the club
By the Board of Directors for any purpose
motioned and approved during
session
Any use outside of this list without
the express written permission of the current
The OGREs Constitution
PREAMBLE:
We the members of OGREs: The
Organization of Gamers & Roleplaying Enthusiasts,
Inc. (hereafter known as
O.G.R.E.s), a not-for-profit organization
incorporated within the Commonwealth of
L1
Kentucky, in order to provide a social organization
in which people of diverse backgrounds
with similar interests can interact
to enjoy the hobby of analog and tabletop
gaming and to promote the gaming hobby
and industry, as well as to expand this
shared interest with the general community
through the use of community services,
social activates, and creative endeavors,
do hereby establish this constitution
for the organization, O.G.R.E.s.
ARTICLE 1: MEMBERSHIP
Section 1: Application and Classification
All persons seeking application to
O.G.R.E.s shall be awarded membership
and shall remain members so long as they
maintain all membership requirements as
provided in the current Membership
Handbook. Membership in O.G.R.E.s is
open to all individuals, regardless of gender,
age, religion, sexual orientation, or
any other factor.
Each chapter may define the way
they classify membership. However, one
easy way is by Active or Associate depending
on actual activity within the group. Regardless,
only those members listed on
each chapter’s roster on OgreLair.org will
be considered members of OGREs, Inc.
Any O.G.R.E.s member may cancel
his/her membership at any time for any
reason via verbal or signed notice to their
chapter’s Chapter Coordinator or Senior
Game Master. Any and all membership
dues are non-refundable. Any former
O.G.R.E.s member who has canceled his/
her membership may reinstate it at any
time by the same means.
Involuntary removal of membership
from the official OgreLair.org roster of a
member must be put before a vote of that
member’s chapter’s membership and must
pass with a 90% approval, as well as the
approval of the geographically closest
chapter’s coordinator or Senior Game
Master.
Section 2: Office Held by Members
Any O.G.R.E.s member who holds a
position within their chapter organization,
including but not limited to: any Dungeon
Master or Game Master regularly running
sessions, chapter coordinator, webmaster,
or public relations officer, shall be considered
an Active Member even if they are not
currently playing in a regularly scheduled
game.
Section 3: Not-For-Profit Status
O.G.R.E.s is a Not-For-Profit organization
incorporated under the laws of
the Commonwealth of Kentucky. No member
of O.G.R.E.s, of whatever classification,
shall have any interest in, or right to,
the property and assets of O.G.R.E.s. However,
not all assets dedicated to the promotion
and growth of O.G.R.E.s are exclusive
to the organization. Chapters and individual
members have the right to maintain
their own assets apart from those of
O.G.R.E.s though they may be dedicated to
a common purpose
ARTICLE 2: DEFINITION OF TERMS
The Organization of Gamers & Roleplaying
Enthusiasts is often referred to
simple as any of the following: “Ogres,”
“O.G.R.E.s,” “O.G.R.E.,” “Ogre,” or any
other similar variation. Any of these are
considered colloquially correct and may be
used when referring to the O.G.R.E.s as a
whole or to a particular member. The following
terminology is also used repeatedly
by members of O.G.R.E.s, and they are defined
as follows:
A gaming group or groups based
within the same geographical location that
can have as few as 4 members with no
maximum number, and may be based
within a specific city or school.
Chapter Coordinator:
This is the individual who communicates
on the chapter’s behalf with the
O.G.R.E.s organization as a whole, and
more often than not is also the founder of
the chapter.
Director:
The Director, who may also alternatively
utilize the title of President, is the
individual who serves as the Chairman on
the Board of Directors for the O.G.R.E.s,
and as such takes care of the day-to-day
operations of the organization.
Senior Game Master:
Sometimes called the Senior Dungeon
Section 1: Organization
The Administrative bodies of
and the Primary Officers.
Section 2: Board of Directors
The governing body of O.G.R.E.s
shall be the Board of Directors. The admiralty
board shall consist of 10 members
who serve three year terms and are elected
by the general membership and shall be
of this Board of Directors shall be to adopt
and enforce all policies as suggested by the
Primary Officers and the general membership.
The board of directors shall be the
final authority in the interpretation of the
O.G.R.E.s Constitution and of the policies
and procedures of the organization.
Each member of the Board has a
single vote in any issue except for the
Chairman, who will only vote in the case of
a tie. The Board of Directors secretary (a
board member selected by the board as detailed
in the Bylaws) shall collect and conduct
the counting and record keeping of all
Section 3: Primary Officers
The function of the Primary Officers
is to discuss and vote on any policies or
procedures considered for the organization,
with any policy passing by 70% or
more being sent to the Board of Directors
for final consideration. Additionally, the
Primary Officers also cooperate to assist
each chapter with any issues or complaints
L3
and to plan events and other general organizational
preparation and planning.
ARTICLE 4: TERMS OF OFFICE,
OFFICER’S DUTIES AND
RESPONSIBILITIES
Section 1: O.G.R.E.s Officers
The leadership of O.G.R.E.s has the
right to remove or refuse to recognize officers
described within Article 4, sections 2
through 12, inclusive, upon good cause
shown. For purposes of such refusal,
“good cause” may include:
 That individual’s demonstrated repeated
failure to comply with O.G.R.E.s
policies and procedures
 Prior financial improprieties by that
individual related to any O.G.R.E.s
chapter or the organization as a whole
 That individual’s previous failures to
report accurately and maintain any financial
records of a chapter of the
O.G.R.E.s organization as a whole
Proof of a criminal conviction involving
rape, theft, fraud, or any other felonious
offense; or
Proof of sexual harassment of a member
or sexual misconduct (as currently
defined within the Membership Handbook)
with a member.
Should the leadership of O.G.R.E.s
choose to refuse to recognize any individual
for such good cause shown, that individual
has the immediate right to appeal
specified in Article 5. That appellate process
should be concluded no later than sixty
(60) days from the date of refusal. At the
decision of the Board of Directors, that individual
may retain his/her officer position
during the appellate process.
Section 2: Chapter Coordinator
The Chapter Coordinator is the individual
who keeps the O.G.R.E.s organization
informed about the chapter’s happenings,
as well as communicated anything
from the organization to the chapter.
The individual who assimilates his/her
gaming group into O.G.R.E.s as a new
chapter is considered the first Chapter Coordinator,
though at any point the chapter
may select a new individual to provide this
role.
All Chapter Coordinators are selected
from within their chapter and may
serve for any length of time as wished by
the individual and the chapter, though neglect
of duty may result in O.G.R.E.s requesting
a new individual from the chapter.
The coordinator is responsible for
providing quarterly reports to O.G.R.E.s
that include the number of members,
number and types of running games, any
changes in officers, and any other news
deemed noteworthy by the coordinator as
well as any problems or requests for assistance
Though O.G.R.E.s is open to all
ages, it is usually recommended that the
chapter coordinator be at least 16 years of
age with regular access to the internet (as
that is the easiest and quickest form of
communication with O.G.R.E.s). This
member should also have good people
skills, as he/she will typically be the
“public relations” officer of a chapter and
may represent O.G.R.E.s to outside
groups.
Section 3: Senior Game Master
The Senior Game Master, or sometimes
called the Senior Dungeon Master, is
the member of a chapter who has the most
“time served” within the gaming hobby/
lifestyle and as such the most experience
with tabletop gaming. Though in most
situations this individual is a clear choice,
some chapters may have multiple individuals
who could fill this role. In the case
of the latter, the chapter should vote on
who will serve as the chapter’s SDM, and
also vote on how long that person will
serve before another vote is taken.
The SGM is responsible for solving
L4
any gaming disputes related to cheating,
metagaming, or general arguments – provided
that the SGM is not personally involved
within them. Should the Senior
Game Master be involved personally in the
dispute or considers him/herself to be unable
to resolve conflict between friends,
he/she will work with the Chapter Coordinator
to get assistance from a geographically-nearby
chapter’s SDM to solve the
situation. Additionally, the Senior Game
Master is responsible for assisting newer
members and gamers with understanding
a given game.
Section 4: Financial Officers/Treasurers
O.G.R.E.s as a whole and chapters
who deem it necessary or choose to will
have a Treasurer. The Treasurer who
serves the O.G.R.E.s as a whole is known
as the Chief Financial Officer, and his/her
responsibilities are similar to those of a
given chapter’s treasurer. These duties include
proper record keeping of financial
transactions, insuring that all proper taxes
or other monetary requirements are properly
paid, insuring that all funds are accounted
for and appropriated properly,
and keeping in line with all laws regarding
the funds of Not-For-Profit organizations.
Since this is such an important issue,
any treasurer must be at least 21 years
of age, and the Chief Financial Officer
must be at least 23 years of age.
Section 5: Webmasters
In the modern age a presence on the
world wide web is of vital importance, especially
among the O.G.R.E.s demographic
that typically includes net-savvy individuals.
As such, the webmaster is a very important
responsibility for any chapter and
for O.G.R.E.s.
:The webmaster is tasked with creating,
maintaining, and updating the website for
their chapter or the organization
(depending on whom the webmaster
serves, respectfully). This includes as well
making sure that any potential O.G.R.E.s
members who contact the organization via
a website are directed to the appropriate
place or person and assisting with the
O.G.R.E.s Web Presence and Image Brand.
Any webmaster would benefit from
a prior experience or working knowledge
of web design, though chapters lacking in
such a person can find assistance in many
locations. It is recommended that the individual
be at least 16 years of age. If a
chapter lacks funds, at the very least a
facebook, and other social networking
pages should be set up to assist local gamers
in locating and networking with the
chapter.
Section 6: Chairman of the New Chapter
Recruitment Committee
As defined by the O.G.R.E.s Bylaws,
one of the permanent committees appointed
by the Board of Directors is the
New Chapter Recruitment Committee.
The chairman of this committee is ultimately
responsible for recruiting new
chapters, as well as assisting them in their
transition into the organization. This position
is usually co-inhabited by the Director
of Communications unless two individuals
are deemed necessary by the current
board.
This individual is responsible for
keeping the Board of Directors informed
quarterly on the status and number of new
chapters as well as potential market areas
to scout for new chapters. This person
may work closely with the webmaster and
obviously with any chapter’s chapter coordinator.
It is recommended that this individual
be at least 21 years of age.
Section 7: Chairman of the Committee on
Gaming Advocacy
As defined by the O.G.R.E.s Bylaws,
one of the permanent committees appointed
by the Board of Directors is the
L5
Committee on Gaming Advocacy, which is
dedicated to the promotion, education,
and understanding of tabletop gaming to
the general public. This individuals responsibilities
include providing the general
public with positive, educational, and family
friendly material on tabletop gaming, as
well as to be a public figure for gaming advocacy.
Due to the very nature of this post,
the chairman must be 21 years of age and
demonstrate public speaking and people
skills as well as a general understanding of
public lobbying.
Section 8: Director of Communications
This is a member of the Board of
Directors, selected by the board, who communicates
with the chapter coordinator’s
and facilitates the communication between
the chapters and the organization as a
whole. This person must be 18 years of age
and should have internet access and the
ability to provide chapter coordinator’s
with multiple means of communicating to
him/her. This director will typically work
regularly with the Chairman of the New
Chapter Recruitment Committee.
Section 9: Chairman of the Committee on
Organization Promotion and Marketing
This position is responsible for the
creation of any O.G.R.E.s promotional and
recruitment material, as well as any and all
material that will be made public for any
reason. The individual should be able to
create visually stimulating and clear, concise,
informative material, such as flyers,
brochures, forms, and newsletters. Any
printing at cost must be pre-approved by
the Chief Financial Officer. Unless deemed
necessary to split into two, this position is
often co-inhabited by the Editor-in-Chief.
There is no age restriction to this
position, though ability to make the material
should be demonstrated, and access to
the equipment is always a plus.
Section 10: Vice Director
This individual is a voting member
of the Board of Directors who serves as the
support and backup for the Director, and
in absence of serves as the Director, with
all rights and responsibilities of such. This
position is filled by vote of the Board. This
person must be 21 years of age.
Section 11: Director
The Director, also known as the
President, is the non-voting member of the
Board of Directors, selected from the
board, who manages and runs the organization
on a daily basis. This person must
be 23 years of age.
Section 12: Supreme Game Master
This individual serves on the Board
of Directors as their own personal Senior
Game Master, with all the rights and responsibilities
as such. In addition, this individual
must assist with ending and gaming
issues or problems within the organization
that chapter SDMs have not been able
to. As well, the Supreme Game Master
must also end all conflicts between the Primary
officers and the Board of Directors
that hinder the organization.
Section 13: Editor-in-Chief
This individual is responsible for
the creation, distribution, and quality control
of all written materials related to
OGREs and heads the Committee on Fluff.
Section 14: Inquisitor
The Inquisitor is a member of the
Board of Directors who arbitrates disputes
and claims filed by members in good
standing against other members, chapters,
or OGREs, Inc. Bound by the OGREs, Inc.
Constitution, the Inquisitor will - upon receiving
a valid claim filed through the appropriate
claims process - gather evidence
or official statements from all parties men-
L6
tioned in the claim on the dispute. Once
evidence and statements have been gathered,
the Inquisitor is duty-bound to make
a judgment based off of verifiable facts.
At all times, the Inquisitor keeps the
Board of Directors informed on active
claims and findings. Should the Inquisitor
not be able to make a decision due to personal
inclusion in the incident or personal
prerogative the Board of Directors as a
whole will judge the claim. Claims from
individuals not in good standing will not
be accepted until their home chapter declares
their membership to be in good
standing again.
During the claims process, an Inquisitor
follows this procedure:
1. Receipt of Claims through official channel.
If not, Void.
2. Verification that claimant is member in
good standing of OGREs. If not, Void.
3. Verification that member first reached
out to local chapter officers. If they did
not, refer back to local chapter and void
claim.
4. Notice of open claim placed on BoD
Task Board with brief overview
5. Request for statement and evidence (if
any) from all parties named in dispute
prior to any official reply being given.
6. Request for additional evidence (if any)
from claimant.
7. Study of evidence, statements. Additional
statements gathered from third
parties if necessary.
8. Decision made based off evidence. An
Inquisitor may only ever issue three
decisions: Void, Accept, or Deny. A
Void means that a claim that is filed
does not meet the requirements necessary
to be officially accepted. Acceptance
means that the claimant is
deemed to be correct in their story and
evidence supports them, and the original
event deemed to have been done
incorrectly or in bad faith. The BoD will
determine proper sanctions against atfault
parties. Deny means that the
claimant was either proven wrong via
evidence or not able to provide any
evidence for their statements. The
BoD will determine proper sanctions
against the claimant. In the event of
evidence not being available from either
side, officers in good standing will
be assumed via good faith to have
acted correctly in accordance with
MHB guidelines.
9. Task Board updated, and the Editor-in
-Chief (or Dir. Of Communications if
no editor) is provided with the file to
format an official OGREs, Inc. press
release to place on the website and
link directly to any affiliated parties.
ARTICLE 5: DISCIPLINARY
PROCESS AND APPEALS
Section 1: The O.G.R.E.s Appeals Process
O.G.R.E.s recognizes the right,
codified in the O.G.R.E.s Membership
Handbook, of a member to appeal any
judgmental decision entered against them
by O.G.R.E.s or any of its officers.
Section 2: Discipline of O.G.R.E.s Senior
Officers
The Board of Directors and Primary
Officers of O.G.R.E.s have the right
to call upon the Supreme Game Master to
investigate allegations of gaming or organizational
misconduct performed by
any O.G.R.E.s officer whose position is
described by Article 4, Sections 2 through
10, inclusive.
Based on the formal report presented
to the Board and/or Primary Officers
by the Supreme Game Master, the
board and/or Primary Officers may then
recommend formal sanctions be imposed
on said officer.
Should the Board of Directors decide
to recommend formal sanctions be
imposed, they shall prepare a formal list
L7
of Articles covering the transgressions and
the suggested sanctions. The Director shall
then formally declare these to the board,
and a vote will be taken to see if the sanctions
will be implemented.
Section 3: The O.G.R.E.s Appeals Board
Any member who has actions or
sanctions taken against him/her has the
right to appeal that decision. At this point,
the vote will be reenacted no later than 60
days from the initial vote to the Primary Officers,
who can then take a wider vote on
the issue.
ARTICLE 6: REMOVAL OF
OFFICER FROM POSITION
Section 1: Chapter Coordinator
If any chapter coordinator fails to
perform their duties as defined in Article 4,
Section 2, then the chapter membership
may request that he/she step down as well
as the Director of Communications request
that the chapter replace the officer due to
neglect of duties. Should the person willing
step down, a simple chapter vote with a
60% success rate may give the position to
another individual. An unwilling removal
requires a 70% approval. A chapter coordinator
that the Director of Communications
requests be replaced can not remain, and a
vote must be taken to replace them.
Any chapter that fails to properly replace
their Chapter Coordinator within 90
days will be removed from the organization.
Section 2: Director
If at any time the Director/
President/Chairman of the Board of Directors
is not fulfilling his/her duties and the
organization wishes to replace him/her, the
Primary Officers and/or Board of Directors
must present the individual with a formal
request to the individual to step down. If
this request is accepted, and no further action
is deemed necessary, then this former
Director will serve the remainder of his/her
term as a normal, voting member of the
Board of Directors. A new vote will be
taken to replace him or her, and the process
will move forward.
Should the Director refuse to step
down, a vote of the remaining board of
directors must be unanimous to strip
him/her of title. Additionally, if the director
refuses to step down and is voted out,
or it is deemed that further action is necessary
(also via unanimous vote of the remaining
board), then that individual is
removed entirely from the Board of Directors.
A replacement must be voted upon
by the Primary officers to replace the former
board member for the remainder of
his/her term.
Section 3: Member of the Board of Directors
In order to remove a member of
the Board of Directors, all other members
of the board, including the Director, must
unanimously vote that person out. However,
having an attendance rate less than
75% will automatically vacate a board
member’s position.
Section 4: Senior Game Masters
Should members of a chapter feel
that a Senior Game Master is being unfair
in decisions given in games or disputes,
then they should conduct a vote to replace
him that must pass with 70% of the chapter
in favor as well as the approval of the
geographically-nearest chapter’s SDM.
The individual should first be presented
with a formal reasoning and given the
chance to step down voluntarily.
Section 5: Fallout
Any member who fails to provide
proper notice upon stepping down from
office, or who is removed by the above
guidelines, is immediately disqualified
from holding office within OGREs, Inc.
for life, unless pardoned by a majority
L8
vote of the Board of Directors.
ARTICLE 7: FINANCIAL
AFFAIRS/STANDARDS
Section 1: Fiscal Year
The fiscal year of O.G.R.E.s shall
commence on January 1 and terminate on
December 31 of the same calendar year. All
transactions of O.G.R.E.s shall be conducted
in the currency of the United States
of America.
Section 2: Accounting System
The Board of Directors shall install
and maintain an accounting system for
O.G.R.E.s in accordance with generally accepted
accounting principles sufficient to
maintain O.G.R.E.s' tax-exempt status and
which will generate concise and easy-tounderstand
financial statements no less
than three times a year, which shall be published
in such a way as to be accessible by
the general membership.
Section 3: Funds Invested
Funds belonging to O.G.R.E.s, except
as necessary to pay current expenses,
must be invested in United States Federally
insured bank deposits or instruments guaranteed
by the full faith and credit of the
United States of America, or in other investments
as the Board of Directors may
authorize. No funds may be deposited in a
safe deposit box. No funds shall be invested
or loaned in such a way that results
in the personal profit or advantage of any
officer or member of the organization.
Other than funding any O.G.R.E.s events,
no funds may be invested in business ventures
in a manner that results in the actual
loss of funds. Any person or persons authorizing
any such business undertaking
will be personally liable to the corporation
and its members for all losses so incurred.
Section 4: Money and Property
All money and property belonging to
this organization or any individual chapter
shall be held and used solely for the
benefit of the organization, chapter(s),
and its members or the charity or fund for
which the money or property is designated.
No contracts or expenditures of
O.G.R.E.s funds shall be made which will
result in the personal profit or advantage
of any officer or member of O.G.R.E.s.
Section 5: Disbursements
All disbursements of O.G.R.E.s
shall be made by the Chief Financial officer,
who shall keep verifiable records
which show the date, payee, the type of
service rendered or goods or property
purchased, the budget line item into
which they should fall and the amount of
payment.
Section 6: Financial Reviews
The Board of Directors shall provide
for the annual review of the books of
accounts of O.G.R.E.s by independent
certified public accountants that are in no
way affiliated with or related to any member
of O.G.R.E.s. A tax individual paid to
do the annual tax paperwork for the
O.G.R.E.s and turn them into the IRS can
meet this requirement.
Section 7: Financial Liquidation
As set forth in Article 1, Section 3,
in the event that the organization should
be dissolved or liquidated, or other-wise
cease operation, the property and assets
of O.G.R.E.s shall first be used to pay all
outstanding debts, with any remaining
assets being contributed on behalf of the
membership to a charitable corporation
that is recognized under Title 26, United
States Code, Section 501 ©(3) or © (7), as
selected by the Board of Directors.
Additionally, no funds within any
account of the O.G.R.E.s on any given calendar
year may be transitioned into the
next calendar year. As such, all accounts
L9
must be at 0 as of January 1 of a new calendar
year with all proper records and legal
spending as such. It is recommended that
any funds be used towards an O.G.R.E.s
year-end event to facilitate meeting this requirement.
Section 8: Camp Oggie
The Camp Oggie is the annual yearend
event funded by O.G.R.E.s for its membership,
to celebrate another calendar year
of the tabletop gaming and lifestyle. The
event will be held at a location chosen by
the Board of Directors at their first meeting
of a calendar year, and proposals may be
sent to them prior to by any members or
chapters who wish to host the Camp Oggie
or have an idea for a location. The event is
intended to be outdoors, preferably cabinbased
camping, with a weekend schedule of
gaming.
All funds for the event will be under
the stewardship of the Treasurer, who shall
make funds available to the Camp Oggie
coordinator in a manner consistent with
guidelines published in the Membership
Handbook.
ARTICLE 8: ELECTIONS
Section 1: Term of Office
The Director (president) and all
members of the Board of Directors shall
take office on January 1st of the year following
the O.G.R.E.s general elections,
which shall be held every three years. The
electorate body in these elections shall be
all members in good standing (as of August
1st of the election year) of the organization.
However, this election will only elect the
ten serving board members. The Director
(president) will then be selected from
within this new board.
Section 2: Supervision of Election
selves, shall coordinate, run, supervise,
and count the election/votes. In the event
that one (or both) of these individuals are
running, the Board will vote two others
into this role who are not affiliated with
the election if possible.
Section 3: Nomination of Candidates
Any member may run for a position
on the Board of Directors if they meet
the following requirements: Member in
good standing for at least two calendar
years (need not be consecutive) and at
least 21 years of age. That member may
nominate him/herself or can be nominated
by another member in good standing
and accept.
Once the new Board of Directors
has been chosen, a board member needs
the backing of at least one other board
member in order to be nominated for Director.
The backing board member cannot
also be running, and the nominated
individual must accept any nomination.
A majority vote from the non-running
board members will result in the selection
of the incoming Director.
Section 4: Election Timetable
The election year will be the last
year of the three years that the current
board is serving. All nominations must be
made no later than May 31st of this year.
From June 1st until July 31st, the running
members are allowed to “campaign”
within O.G.R.E.s for support in the upcoming
election.
Each chapter must take a vote during
their next session/meeting on or after
July 1st but not later than July 31st.
These elections must be held via paper
hand-written names, with each member
being able to vote for 10 of the candidates
for the board. The Chapter Coordinator
will later, but not later than July 31st,
tally these votes and send that information
to the Director of Communications.
L11
The announcement of the winning
candidates and incoming Board of Directors
can be made as soon as the Board received
notice of them from the election supervisors,
but must be no later than August
31st. The now-incoming Board of Directors
have until October 31st to then campaign
amongst themselves for nominees for incoming
Director. A vote will be held, with
ballots being submitted to the incumbent
Director of Communications (unless he/she
is also a incoming Board member and running
for Director, at which point the incumbent
Board will select a contact) either personally
or electronically, which ever is more
viable. The incoming board will be made
aware of the incoming Director no later
than November 30th.
Section 5: Withdrawal from Candidacy
Should any board nominee accept
the candidacy and then withdraw from the
election, that person shall not re-enter the
same election. The candidate must notify
one or both of the election supervisors in a
secure and verifiable manner of his/her
withdrawal from the election.
Section 6: Office Turnover
An out-going Director must make
provisions to turn over all materials connected
with the office of Director
(president) to the incoming Director on or
before December 31st of the election year.
If the out-going Director fails or refuses to
promptly turn over all such materials, the
incoming Director or his designee is authorized
to take all appropriate actions, including
but not limited to the filing of legal
proceedings and the filings of a criminal
complaint, which may be needed to ensure
compliance with this Section.
ARTICLE 9: ASSESSMENTS
Section 1: Membership Dues
Membership within O.G.R.E.s is
completely free, and no dues are required.
However, an individual chapter may
choose to have a chapter dues. A member
should check with their chapter first.
Typically, this dues is for funding any
costs the chapter incurs, such as site
rental for gaming or gaming equipment,
or to help pay for food or drinks, or to increase
the chapter’s gaming library.
It is required by each chapter that
does require dues to have a record of each
member’s dues, and no member should
go more than two months without paying
before being removed from games and
considered associate. In the case of extreme
financial distress, the chapter coordinator
and senior game master can agree
to allow the member to stay, but this
should be a very rare happening and for
serious reasons, as other players who are
still paying dues may resent this. The coordinator
should send this list to the Director
of Communications in his/her reports
so that O.G.R.E.s has a record of all
members in good standing for election
purposes.
Section 2: Lifetime Memberships
In the case of outstanding or longserving
members, the Board of Directors
may grant the status of “Life Member” to
an Ogre. Any member of the board or Primary
Officers may nominate an individual
and provide their reasoning. Lifetime
membership requires a unanimous vote
by the Board of Directors.
All Directors (presidents) receive a
honorary lifetime membership upon the
successful completion of their first threeyear
term. A lifetime membership can
also be utilized for “honorary members”
such as gaming companies and publishers
or celebrity gamers. If that member is
ever in a chapter that requires dues, or if
OGREs, Inc. ever begins requiring dues,
these members are exempt.
ARTICLE 10: AMENDMENTS
L12
Section 1: Constitution Amendments
This constitution may be amended
or superseded, either in whole or in part, by
an affirmative majority vote of the general
membership, in a manner consistent with
the current Membership Handbook and the
parliamentary authority of the organization.
Section 2: Petition for Amendment
An amendment may be placed before
the general membership for their approval
after submission to and approval by
the Board of Directors or after receipts of a
petition for an amendment. Any active
member may petition the board for an
amendment.
Section 3: Cosmetic Changes
Any changes to the Constitution that
correct misspellings, fix grammatical errors,
mistakes in numbering, may be made
with a simple majority vote of the board
upon discovery.
ARTICLE 11: OTHER OGRES MANU-
ALS
Section 1: Membership Handbook
The Membership Handbook shall be
the member’s guide to features and functions
of O.G.R.E.s and shall govern all of
the organization matters where not inconsistent
with this Constitution. Altering the
Membership Handbook, beyond cosmetic
changes and fixes, must be done with a majority
approval of the Board of Directors.
The sitting Director may include a
brief and personal “welcome” or
“introduction” type of message to the general
membership via the Handbook. This
may be updated also with the approval of
the majority of the Board, and must be
done when a new Director enters the office.
Section 2: Office Manuals
At any time the sitting member of a
particular office (i.e. Director of Communi-
cations, Supreme Game Master, etc.) may
write up a manual for use by any future
office holders. These manuals should describe
why the office exists, what the
rights and responsibilities of that office
are, and a general assistance and guideline
on running the office. Should an officer
create such a manual, the Board of Directors
must have 70% approval or better
for it to be listed along with other official
Ogre documents.
Section 3: Awards Manual
The Awards Manual is a pamphlet
consisting of all the currently used
O.G.R.E.s Awards that are available to be
earned and awarded to members or
friendly individuals and businesses. This
is for the members award program, and
should not be confused with the annual
Oggie awards held for the industry at
large.
L13
Section 4: Rank Structure
The Rank Structure pamphlet is a
thorough breakdown of the O.G.R.E.s
member rank structure and advancement
guidelines. It can be found in the appendix
of this handbook or in further detail in the
Ranks Pamphlet.
Section 5: Merchandise Brochure
The Merchandise Brochure is a listing
of purchasable O.G.R.E.s swag and
goodies, such as clothing and gaming paraphernalia,
for members.
Section 6: Miscellaneous
The Board or specific officers may at
times have releases available to members
for specific events or jobs. These may include
items such as Camp Oggie host guides
or a complete corpora of legal documents.
For an up-to-date list, visit OgreLair.org or
