To celebrate Community Planning Month, <strong>Miramar</strong> is partnering with Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital<br />
at Memorial <strong>Miramar</strong> as <strong>the</strong> title sponsor to host <strong>the</strong> “LEGO <strong>Build</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>Change</strong>” event. <strong>The</strong> event will<br />
feature a design competition entitled “Changing Face <strong>of</strong> America – <strong>Miramar</strong> 2040: <strong>Build</strong> Your Dream<br />
Community.” Additional sponsors include South Florida Pediatrics, <strong>Miramar</strong> Park <strong>of</strong> Commerce, Waste<br />
PRO, Miami Children’s Hospital, Chick-Fil-A, United Health Care, Sam’s Club, Publix, Costco, BJs, Wal-<br />
Mart, Blue Bell Creameries, First Investors and <strong>the</strong> <strong>Miramar</strong> Cultural Arts Center. Snacks and beverages<br />
will be provided for <strong>the</strong> children during <strong>the</strong> entire event. For <strong>the</strong> evening portion <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> event (4:00 p.m.<br />
to 7:00 p.m.), Chick-Fil-A will provide meals for all attendees.<br />
This competition is designed to give <strong>the</strong> children an opportunity to build <strong>the</strong> change <strong>the</strong>y want to see for<br />
<strong>Miramar</strong>. It can be houses in <strong>the</strong>ir neighborhood, shopping centers, <strong>of</strong>fice buildings, hospitals/medical<br />
centers, parks, schools or just a fantasy creation. Approximately one ton <strong>of</strong> mixed LEGO ® bricks and<br />
pieces will be available for <strong>the</strong> children to shape <strong>the</strong>ir thoughts, feelings and ideas on how <strong>Miramar</strong> can<br />
become a more sustainable city for <strong>the</strong> future.<br />
Please arrange for your school bus to arrive at Vizcaya Park no later than 8:30 a.m. and 12:00 noon.<br />
Each class should be accompanied by <strong>the</strong> appropriate number <strong>of</strong> teachers/chaperones. Although, <strong>the</strong><br />
children will be having lunch at school, prior to or after attending <strong>the</strong> event, snacks and beverages will<br />
be provided.<br />
For <strong>the</strong>ir participation, each student will receive a LEGO® T-shirt and a LEGO® diploma after building<br />
<strong>the</strong>ir project. From 4:00 - 7:00 pm, that same afternoon (Oct. 10 th ) at Vizcaya Park, parents are invited to<br />
view <strong>the</strong>ir child’s creation and have dinner compliments <strong>of</strong> Chick-Fil-A. <strong>The</strong> three best projects will be<br />
recognized at <strong>the</strong> <strong>City</strong> Commission Meeting on Wednesday October 17, 2012 at 7:00 p.m.<br />

Project Description<br />
Imagine that you are given <strong>the</strong> opportunity to build your Dream Community. As a Mayor; a <strong>City</strong> Planner;<br />
an Architect; an Engineer; a Developer; a Business Owner and/or a concerned resident, what will your<br />
Dream Community look like?<br />
� Where will you live, work, learn and play?<br />
� Will <strong>the</strong>re be single-family or multi-family residences?<br />
� Where are <strong>the</strong> schools, hospitals, fire stations, police stations, <strong>City</strong> Hall, places <strong>of</strong> worship and<br />
parks located?<br />

� How will you travel? Will you walk, bike, use public transit or boat?<br />

Eligibility<br />
This competition is open to fifth grade students from all <strong>City</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Miramar</strong> Elementary Schools. Each<br />
school will develop <strong>the</strong>ir own selection criteria for participating students. Each school will be allowed to<br />
bring 1 group <strong>of</strong> up to 25 students. Each school participating in <strong>the</strong> CHAMPs program is allowed to bring<br />
an additional group <strong>of</strong> 25 students.<br />
Requirements and Participation<br />
In order to participate, each team is required to submit a completed <strong>City</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Miramar</strong> Release, Waiver<br />
and Indemnification Agreement for each team member. <strong>The</strong>se forms should be sent to<br />
