Ahighlight <strong>of</strong> April this year, and part <strong>of</strong> the SHTM’s contribution to<br />
PolyU’s 70th Anniversary celebrations, was the <strong>School</strong>’s first Industry<br />
Appreciation Dinner, with over 300 industry partners, staff members and<br />
students in attendance.<br />
Held at the <strong>Hotel</strong> Miramar, the event was designed to thank industry<br />
figures for their generosity in providing scholarships, more than 400<br />
student placements every year, Pr<strong>of</strong>essor for a Day lectures, mentorships<br />
and advice.<br />
Mr Tony Tse, SHTM Programme Director (Industry Partnerships), said the<br />
dinner was arranged to “express our gratitude to the industry for the<br />
various things they have been doing for us”. This included the work <strong>of</strong> the<br />
two advisory committees that are helping the SHTM with its new teaching<br />
hotel, which will open in Tsim Sha Tsui during the 2009/2010 academic<br />
year.<br />
<strong>The</strong> pre-dinner formalities featured speeches by Ms Sylvia Chung,<br />
Chairman <strong>of</strong> the SHTM’s Advisory Committee, and Pr<strong>of</strong>essor Kaye Chon,<br />
Director <strong>of</strong> the SHTM.<br />
Another highlight was the presentation <strong>of</strong> an Honorary Fellowship <strong>of</strong> the<br />
SHTM to Mr Manuel Woo, former Executive Director <strong>of</strong> the <strong>Hong</strong> <strong>Kong</strong><br />
<strong>Hotel</strong>s Association. Mr Woo, who has also served as a PolyU Council<br />
Member and Chairman <strong>of</strong> the SHTM’s Advisory Committee, received the<br />
Fellowship from Pr<strong>of</strong>essor Chon and PolyU Vice President (Research<br />
Development) Pr<strong>of</strong>essor Ko Jan-ming.<br />
As the Dinner progressed, eight final year students were called on to talk<br />
about their experiences in mentorship, international exchange and industry
