Gentle and effective:
The modular pre-heating
solutions of up to 2.6 m in
the POWERFLOW
ERSA extends the POWERFLOW series
By Angelika Uehlein
New wave soldering system with flexible pre-heat concepts
After the successful market launch of the high-end wave soldering machine,
POWERFLOW N2, ERSA is now supplementing the POWERFLOW
series with an extendable entry level model.
The new POWERFLOW manifests an
extremely attractive price/performance
ratio. The modular, flexible housing
platform enables various customerspecific
extension levels. The ERSA
POWERFLOW represents a new, futureorientated
machine concept containing
numerous intelligent solutions and
providing the user with a high added
value. The POWERFLOW excels thanks
to consistently continuous and complete
lead-free capability. Its machine concept
permits individual configurations in the
flux, pre-heating and soldering area, with
the result that specific requirements of
the board spectrum can be taken into
best possible account.
The spray fluxer, which is standard part
of the basic machine, processes VOCfree
and water-based fluxes securely
and reproducibly. Optionally, a second
spray head with a separate flux supply
is available. The selection of flux type and
amount applied is individually programmable
for each board. In addition,
the amount
applied can be
monitored by sensors.
Programming of the flux area is done by
a comfortable, intelligent, graphic user
interface. Optionally, an automatic PCB
outline recognition is available.
The high demands of the lead-free
process with regard to the preheating
process have been consequently implemented
in the ERSA POWERFLOW
machine design. Modular, flexible preheating
lengths and configurations up to
2.6 m assure gentle and effective heat-up
of multilayers. High-mass components
are safely warmed-up in the preheating
module. Optional top side convection
heaters provide for optimal heat-up
of thermally demanding boards. The
preheating length can freely be composed
of short and medium wave length IR
emitters and convection heaters thus
covering a large spectrum of heat transfer
possibilities. Individual production requirements
can thus optimally be met.
The POWERFLOW is available with pallet
or finger conveyer. The pallet conveyer can
optionally be designed as a segmented
conveyor, which allows different speeds in
the preheat and solder module.
Rework software grows in line
with customer requirements
By Udo Hofmann
IRSoft extended by valuable functions
The reliable repair of high lead count
components (e.g. BGA) continues to be
a significant aspect of the manufacturing
process for electronic components.
ERSA provides support for its customers
in this with the rework systems
IR / PL 550 A and IR / PL 650 A. The new
version of the IRSoft rework software has
been expanded, in intensive cooperation
with the customers in question, to include
some new, valuable functions:
Frequently recurring identical soldering
processes can now be repeated in
identical process sequences with the
help of the automatic process repeat
(APR) function. Large numbers of similar
circuit boards can now be processed
simply. In this operating mode, soldering
parameters and sensors only need to be
set once. At the same time, the proven
operating method is retained in the
closed loop control circuit, even when
numerous different applications are to be
processed flexibly. New developments
include integrated user management
and a library function. Depending on
the user logged on, the rework software
appears with a full or limited scope of
functions. The operating environment,
similar to Explorer, of the profile library
enables soldering profiles to be saved
using a structured system according to
applications and users. Profiles can be
allocated to individual users, so that only
predetermined work can be carried out
by each operator.
In order to make profile data easier
to find, IRSoft can allocate to each
saved soldering profile an image of the
application together with instructions.
Errors due to incorrect soldering profiles
are largely prevented, and the quality of
repairs is increased. The operation of the
software itself has also been revised. The
appearance and layout of IRSoft is now
much clearer and more user-friendly. The
users get the information they need for
each stage of the process.
These innovations have already been
presented at the SMT in Nuremberg and
attracted a great deal of positive interest.
ERSA‘s SMT success in Nuremberg
By Tilo Keller
Especially comfortable:
IRSoft is easily handled despite
the complex functions.
This year, ERSA once again presented their entire range of
products and services at the SMT in Nuremberg. The result
was utter satisfaction right down the line. The ERSA trade fair
team came away with many confirmed projects and plenty of
direct business successfully concluded. The communication
of the company’s vision was also well received and led to
numerous requests for ongoing dialogue.
This dialogue will continue on November 13 to 16 at the
Productronica. Everyone interested in innovative
solutions for all aspects of electronics production should
make a note of these dates and be sure to visit ERSA at
their almost 360 m² stand 578 in hall A3.
