Welcome to the 8th annual American Business Awards. 

This year’s ABAs attracted more than 2,700 entries, just about as many as we received in 2008, 

our best year to date. 

Preliminary judging was conducted in April and May by business professionals around the world. 

Their averages scores determined the Finalists. Just about one-third of all entries submitted this year 

are recognized as Finalists. 

Members of the ABA’s Boards of Distinguished Judges & Advisors, and eight specialized final 

judging committees, performed final judging in late May and early June to select Stevie Award winners 

from among the Finalists. All judges are acknowledged in this program. 

This year we partnered with Infogroup companies OneSource and Opinion Research Corporation 

to identify and automatically nominate some of the nation’s best large companies and executives in 

the ABAs. This marked the first time that the Stevie Awards have honorarily nominated some of the 

world’s most prominent companies and executives in one of its programs. 

The second edition of the People’s Choice Stevie Awards for Favorite New Products drew more 

than 150,000 votes to determine the public’s favorite products and services in nine categories. 

We’ll have a busy summer and fall at the Stevie Awards. Honorees in the 7th annual International 

Business Awards will be announced in early July and celebrated at an awards banquet on September 

27 in Istanbul, Turkey. The 7th annual Stevie Awards for Women in Business will accept entries 

through September 30. The 5th annual Stevie Awards for Sales & Customer Service will accept entries 

through December 31, and will feature the second go-round of the People’s Choice Stevie Awards for 

Favorite Customer Service, with a worldwide public vote.

Master of Ceremonies 

Cheryl Casone joined FOX Business Network (FBN) in September 2007 as 

an anchor. Prior to FBN, Casone served as a correspondent for FOX News 

Channel’s (FNC) business unit and was a regular guest on FNC’s Your World 

with Neil Cavuto as well as Cashin’ In, where she appeared initially as a 

contributor when it debuted in May 2001. 

Casone brings years of experience covering finance, business, and consumer 

news to FBN. She has reported on the economic impact of war on the economy, 

consumer fraud, global markets, foreign investment, and corporate governance 

in addition to her work covering the U.S. markets. 

Prior to FNC she worked as a freelance business correspondent for CNN, 

primarily reporting from the New York Stock Exchange, and CBS Newspath 

as a general assignment reporter. Casone moved to New York to work as an 

overnight and early morning news anchor for MSNBC and NBC. Prior to that 

she anchored a business show for San Francisco’s KRON-TV, and served as a business and general assignment 

reporter. She began her career at CNX Media on the nationally syndicated program Travel Update. 

Casone has served on the boards of the Associated Press Television and Radio Association, California and 

Nevada Regional Chapter, and American Women in Radio and Television, San Francisco Chapter. 

A native of Dallas, TX, she graduated from Northern Arizona University.

Bill Kirk is the CEO and co-founder of Weather 

Trends International (WTI), based in the Lehigh 

Valley of Pennsylvania. He has 20 years experience 

and a contagious passion when it comes to applying 

weather intelligence to business strategies in 

retail, manufacturing, utilities, media, consumer 

products, the financial sector, and the military. 

Kirk helped WTI win 6 national and international business 

technology awards in 2009, including a Red Herring Technology 

Award and a 2009 Stevie Award for Most Innovative Company 

of the Year in The American Business Awards; and WTI 

appeared at #5 on the Forbes Most Promising Company Top 20 

list. This is the second company Kirk has founded. (His first sold 

for a 28X return-on-investment.) Kirk has worked with executives 

at many Fortune 500 companies to help them minimize 

their weather exposure by utilizing proprietary year-ahead 

global forecasting technology. 

Earlier in his career, Kirk served as a Captain in the United 

States Air Force. He worked with NASA and the Space Shuttle 

Columbia ferry flights, briefed thousands of F-16 fighter 

missions, and saved the government millions of dollars in 

the procurement of a multi-million dollar Satellite Data 

Handling System. 

As CEO of WTI, Kirk has published several business-weather 

and technical reports identifying winning strategies to capitalize 

on how weather influences retail sales and the overall economy. 

Kirk is regularly featured and quoted as an expert in weather

Tim Holbrook is Director of Human Resources for
