were informally invited to P’yôngyang on April 15 on the occasion of<br />

the 80th birthday of President Kim Il Sung and they also went there.<br />

When the MAC secretaries met on November 30, the UNC/MAC<br />

secretary conveyed to the North’s counter-part an oral message to the<br />

KPA Supreme Commander that the UNC would oppose any measures<br />

taken by the KPA/CPV to suspend the NNSC’s work. Yet, in spite of the<br />

policy to undermine the NNSC, a North Korean general took part in the<br />

celebration of the 41st anniversary of the NNSC on July 29, 1994. 306<br />

Previously, North Korea had limited the logistic support of the<br />

Czech and Polish delegations to basic needs. From June 1991, gas<br />

supplies to the lodging quarters in Kaesông were interrupted. On June<br />

6, North Korea did not assist the delegations with a vehicle to return<br />

to their camp after festivities on the Swedish national day; they had to<br />

walk 1,5 kilometres back. On June 16, the North announced that<br />

financial support for family visits from Czechoslovakia and Poland to<br />

Panmunjom would be interrupted. Immediately after the simultaneous<br />

entry by the two Koreas into the UN on September 17, 1991,<br />

transport was no longer provided between Kaesông and Panmunjom.<br />

On October 15, the supply of water, electricity and daily necessities<br />

was interrupted. In contrast, the South arranged visits for shopping,<br />

offered the delegates medical care and invited them to official and<br />

cultural events.<br />
