June 8 The MAC declares in a letter to the NNSC that its activities<br />

would be suspended from June 9.<br />

June 9 At an extraordinary meeting, the NNSC agrees to withdraw all<br />

inspection teams to Panmunjom. The teams are withdrawn<br />

from the South on June 9 and from the North on June 12. The<br />

NNSC becomes a “Commission without Supervision.”<br />

June 16 A US Navy aircraft is attacked over international waters. The<br />

plane returns safely.<br />

June 18 The South Korean National Assembly passes a motion<br />

appealing to the UNC to dissolve the NNSC and to expel it.<br />

July 6 At the 153rd MAC secretary meeting, the South admits the<br />

North’s accusation of a violation of its airspace (no. 19).<br />

October 5 At the 155th MAC secretary meeting, both sides accuse each<br />

other of the responsibility for a shooting incident.<br />

November 7 A South Korean airplane that had crossed the MDL is shot<br />

down by North Korea.<br />

November 10 At the 73rd MAC plenary meeting, the North and the South fail<br />

to reach agreement on the November 7 incident. The pilot and<br />

the aircraft are returned on November 20.<br />

1957<br />

May 6 At the 159th MAC secretary meeting, the North rejects the<br />

South’s claims of border crossings.<br />

June 21 At the 75th MAC plenary meeting, the UNC/MAC unilaterally<br />

cancels Paragraph 13(d). Reports on combat materials cease.<br />

June 26 At the 76th MAC meeting, the North requests a withdrawal of<br />

the cancellation. The South responds that the MAC is not a<br />

proper forum to discuss political issues.<br />

June 28 At the 161st MAC secretary meeting, both parties accuse each<br />

other that personnel who had entered the DMZ had not worn<br />
